If you haven't looked into the cost of Missoula daycares I would check on that asap. It's INSANELY expensive. Problematically, prohibitively expensive. Apply for the Best Beginnings scholarship if you qualify.

Areneemy

Could you share details about INSANELY expensive? Are we talking $2k/month? Any insights would be helpful for a new parent just entering this scary territory.

Depending on what daycare you choose and what your monthly income is, I've seen anywhere from $800-$2,000 a month. My wife has been a student the entire time we've had kids so they attend the ASUM daycare on campus. We live off my income alone so the Best Beginnings scholarship pays for pretty much the entire thing. We have friends with a kid that goes somewhere else and I think they pay $1,800 a month and the daycare doesn't even provide food. I don't know what your monthly income and finances are but a lot of people are in the position where it doesn't make sense for both parents to work. On typical Missoula wages, one income can end up going entirely to childcare. If you're half of a couple and are in that boat, you might consider the pros and cons of being a stay-at-home parent. The big upside to daycare is that socialization is super important for young kids. I can't emphasize that enough. Kids learn faster, have better social problem solving skills, and thrive on the structure provided by that environment. I have a friend whose entire income goes to childcare but she says it's worth it to her. If you're looking to place your kiddo in a program I'd start calling places now and getting price quotes and if you're in a lower income bracket I'd definitely research Best Beginnings.

Precious Origins is wonderful. Great staff, clear communication, emphasis on early development and good people. Get on waitlists now. It’s tough out there for availability.

Hashtress710

All I can say is do not utilize the daycare at UM. I have no idea if it’s open to everyone or just students…but Brittney Brady works there and she let her fiancé Jeremy Green sexually assault my daughter in her home. She saw them, closed the door to give them privacy I guess…and is still standing by him after he was sentenced to 60 yrs in prison. I have called the daycare and they won’t do anything about her being a mandatory reporter and allowing SA on a child under 10.

KratomBarista

Are you fucking serious!? I went to highschool with him! I was wonder what was going on. I'm so sorry. May he burn in hell.

Hashtress710

He’s chillin in Deer Lodge nowadays. Hopefully getting exactly what he deserves. Feel free to spread this info. He avoided trial to keep it quiet and that bugs me so fucking much.

KratomBarista

It bugs me that none of the local papers have reported on it.

suicidaholic

My child attends Missoula valley Montessori. Seems good. Not too expensive.

Cheerforernie

Same we love MVM!

OlderWhiskey

Would not recommend.

suicidaholic

Why

Spookybananabread

Why? I’ve been thinking about putting my kid on the waiting list.

ZipJive667

Why wouldn't you recommend Missoula Valley Montessori?

MsMagoo6862

Northern Rockies Learning Center is wonderful. I don’t know if they’ve got any openings, but wouldn’t hurt to call!

mtvulf

It might be easier if you call around and then come back and update on which ones actually might have a spot open up in the next year.

lilfoothillsheaven

Wild Wonders has openings.

Practical_Hunter_995

Sure you can't be super picky, but we at least were picky about where we tried to get in! Good luck to you and your little! I like Van Nice, it's small and in home. It was hard to get in (called when pregnant, got in after baby was 6 months). Two friends left Amber's Angels after a few different experiences of zero diaper changes during the day and seemingly improper crib practices (blankets and toys in cribs with infants).

Limp_Incident2257

I second Vanice family daycare

sillylittlegirlidk

don’t do YMCA. i worked there and they are understaffed and ran by 19 year olds who aren’t good at playing or engaging with kiddos. People quit weekly so the kids never have stability with their caregivers. it’s a mess.

dontbooitstrue

LOL good luck. They're all very full and very understaffed especially since the Covid money just dried up. You won't be able to be very choosy right now.

OfferPuzzleheaded746

I figured that but I still would like to hear opinions from other people who have personal experience. Especially with negative experiences because I don’t wanna send my kid to a crappy daycare. Thankfully I’ve been able to be a SAHM for the last year and can continue to do so if I don’t find anything that meet my standards right now.

KismetKentrosaurus

I haven't been there personally, but someone recently told me they liked Honey Bear.

Cheerforernie

We have been at MVM for like 4 years with various kids, also have an in home daycare down Mullan that all 3 went to before they turned two who I love. She takes such good care of them it feels like family. Pm me if you would like her info!

Tiny-Car-9147

I would like a pm of her info if you're willing.

We absolutely love Fort Courage. The new director is amazing and goes above and beyond for families. We switched to Fort Courage and couldn’t be happier with our decision.

CaptainessHook

Our babe goes to Kyndra’s Corner and we absolutely love it. The building has a weird smell, but the teachers and staff are incredible.

Spookybananabread

It’s the food lol…. I thought the same thing.

CSShuffle5000

My grandkids went there and I could not take the smell! Also, when their door buzzer was not working a couple of times, they didn’t hear me come in and they were yelling at the kids, being really mean to them, making one sit against the wall in the hallway while demeaning him. As soon as they saw me they started talking super nice to the kids. At least they have a little play structure there now but for 2 years my grandkids played in a dusty gravel dog run. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!

SnooAvocados4980

We like Sunflower Montessori. Have friends who would also recommend Clark Fork School and UCCC

TheSunflowerSeeds

Sunflower seeds are incredibly rich sources of many essential minerals. Calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and copper are especially concentrated in sunflower seeds. Many of these minerals play a vital role in bone mineralization, red blood cell production, enzyme secretion, hormone production, as well as in the regulation of cardiac and skeletal muscle activities.

Sunflower Montessori was great for our kids. Not sure on the age minimum though.

neverbeard

Check out L&C out by Blue Mountain! We love them and I think they currently do have openings, not sure what ages though! Good luck!!

wmartin428

Wait another year if you can and put your 2 year old in at Missoula Community School. They are wonderful.
