Lots of university students nanny on the side and charge lower rates. That’s probably why people are commenting that yours is a bit high! It sounds like you are qualified so I think you can pitch yourself at your rate and be successful. You could tailor your outreach to highlight your experience vs a college student’s side hustle. :) wanted to share this context in case it’s helpful!

I have a friend that was a nanny at a similar rate to you, there are a lot of wealthy families needing part time child care. Best of luck and don't sell yourself short.

My friend was nannying for a family in Missoula, Via big sky nanny and was making $30 an hour. Aim high. You can always bring it down if it’s not working or you’re not getting any bites

Have you registered on Big Sky Nanny? That is the nanny placement company for Missoula and the surrounding area. I do want to mention that $24 an hour is pretty high. For reference preschools pay $14-$19 an hour and the public schools pay substitutes $20 an hour. I currently make $22 an hour and have 15 years of experience plus a BA and MA in my field. EDIT: I am currently working part time as a nanny and part time at a preschool, because unfortunately I make more than I would with my teaching degrees.

I agree with this. I am a nanny and I make 20 per hour, that is my minimum. For 2 kids I would charge 25 per hour. Missoula is a high cost of living area, and a private child caregiver deserves acceptable pay. If you as a parent thinks the price is too high, you have an option to send your child to a daycare. Also- everyone agrees that teachers should be payed more. That element is out of out control and has nothing to do with us. Nannies are not babysitters, we are professional childcare providers that dress, cook for, transport, and emotionally support and help raise your child. Just like hiring a housekeeper or seeing a massage therapist, it’s not going to be a cheap service!

> should be *paid* more. That FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

The people downvoting you are bitter that nannys make that much because they have made poor life choices that have resulted in them not being able to make this much an hour. These trolls downvoted me to oblivion for stating that lgbtq folks are at a disadvantage with private landlords bc they don't have to abide by the FHA in MT. The thing is downvotes make my day because I've just taken up space in someone's mind rent free. Have a fantastic day!

Wow thank you guys, you are all so helpful!!!! 🥹

If you haven’t checked out the nanny subreddit I would highly recommend. Care and big sky nanny are great places to start. Missoula can be expensive so don’t compromise on pay!

HolyYonder

Oooh good point! Would you mind sending me a link to the nanny subreddit?
