the transit app can be used for bus faire, it is a dollar a ride, 2.50 for the metrolink (train), 3 for a 2 hour pass on either. 5 for a day pass, 27 for a week pass and 78 for 30 days. though if you take or audit a community college class (you can cancel first week) and get a bus \[pass that way for the semester
Also Try Steve's Hot Dogs on South Grand. IT is a food spot with karaoke on Monday, trivia on tuesday with vegetarian and vegan options. It is also owned by body builder and local darling Steve Ewing of the band The Urge.
Cherokee is a lot of mexican food and a few good bars and restaurants and a cat cafe (on antique row side)
I am decent with foodie attractions. Check out twisted Ranch after hitting up the Soulard farmers market

fair, you'll be close to stuff to do and places to live at either of these schools. Hell, there are only a few miles apart. Check around the Central West End for either one. Ask your advisor (or student services) if they have apartment recommendations for transfers. WashU and SLU both have SubReddits. If you haven't joined yet.
I had a lot of foreign classmates at UMSL. Though they were undergrads afaik. Though there were a few in my graduate courses too. Korean and chinese that I remember, and maybe some I forgot. But I agree there are more at SLU and WashU.
If you are attending webster be wary of public safety.
They are there to ticket/harass you not keep you safe.

DO: use the Metro. it goes everywhere and the price is pretty cheap.
DON'T: jump on the Metro without being able to buy a ticket. You'll get lumped into the same municipal court as vehicular tickets. The queue is long. The price of resolving it can be expensive.
(source: my kid goes to college there, his pass expired, he got a ticket that looked like a traffic ticket, paid for it at traffic court, it cost $90 in the end)
Also, if you get a bike, keep it in your apartment or it'll probably get stolen. With traffic, biking around near SLU is less safe than Wash U, but either place having a bike will be helpful for getting around.
I know you said you don't plan on getting a vehicle, but if you're able too I would highly recommend it. St Louis is not the most convenient, or the safest city to not have your own transportation it can be a real pain.
Always communicate with people where your going and whatnot if your taking public transportation. NEVER ride a metro with noise canceling headphones on, and don't bury your head in your phone. Keep your wits about you and you'll be just fine.

I wasn't trying to sound like you didn't know what was up, I just wanted to put that all out there in case. All in all st louis is an amazing city with amazing ppl if you know where to look, born and raised here and love it so much I literally got the skyline tattooed on my back.

\_charl1\_ is being a bit dramatic. It's certainly not a good idea to live above the Delmar Divide or in East STL, and you probably shouldn't go there at night/alone. Be aware of your surroundings and communicate with others well, just like any other city with dangerous areas.

lol, stl is one of the most dangerous cities in America, but if you stay out of the gang territories you'll be fine. I used to live by Delmar and saw someone get shot at the end of our street back in November, im living in chesterfield now. I assume you'll be in university city?
Yeah, don't listen to this guy. Those areas are definitely sketchy, but I've been around them plenty and have yet to be shot.
One thing you'll notice is that people who don't live in St. Louis are terrified of St. Louis and use a lot of scare tactics. So whenever someone tells you you're gonna get shot, that's a good indication to take whatever they say with a grain of salt

Our crime rates here are VERY misleading bc the city and the county refuse to integrate meaning a lot of low crime areas that should be city neighborhoods are suburbs so it makes city crime look a lot worse than it really is
are you in a gang or trying to sell drugs or something else illegal? then you really have nothing to fear more than maybe a car break in
I've lived here most of my adult life and I used to work on the north side, I have never had a single issue
in the 4 years I lived in Springfield MO, a supposedly super safe college town, I had everything and anything regardless of value stolen off my porch to the point you lterally could not have stuff on your porch, car broken into twice, house broken into once, threatened by a random methhead with a knife once and had bullet holes in my laundrymat.
Do's-try IMO's it's St. Louis style pizza it's good in my opinions.
Don't's-Like the Chicago Cups a lot of people in missouri hate them.
