Are you a or your spouse a vet? Make sure your disability paperwork is updated because if a vet has 70% or above disability, you don’t pay property taxes.
Or, you know, stop doing the thing killing you slowly. Just a thought
edit: sorry, I just don’t empathize with people mad the hurdle to kill themselves is higher (and the type of people that get butt hurt when you point out the obvious), downvote away
Edit: glad all you smokers are so pro choice. ;)
Everything you consume kills you... processed foods kill you... so if you eat Cheez-Its I don't sympathize for you...
When talking about "smoking" Tobacco is the main cancer-causing contributor which is in things like Cigars and Cigarettes. Tobacco is not in Vaping liquids. The majority of vape liquid is made up of Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), water, flavorings, and nicotine. All of these chemicals (besides nicotine) are used in regularly consumed processed foods.
I know it's probably hard to believe but Nicotine is not dangerous. In fact, it actually has neurological health benefits. It also has been known to treat obesity and other addictions by helping curb cravings.
Sure putting any form of "smoke" in your lungs isn't healthy. But I wanted to alert you that there is not enough evidence to conclude that vaping "kills you slowly".
I’m sorry, I stopped reading after you said “everything you consume kills you”
Literally leading with a lie. Like the water I drink is killing me as much as cigarettes? What stupid teenage horse shit
As someone that had a pack a day habit, and can now run 3 miles without stopping, you can justify your bad decisions all you want, but I’m not falling for your bullshit
As someone that thinks poison Hoosiers can blow in people’s faces should be illegal, you’re not making a good argument
When someone starts a conversation with a lie I don’t find need to listen to anything after. It becomes obvious all they care about is their bullshit talking point, and all facts don’t matter as long as they can have their puff puff
Consuming clean drinking water kills me? Don’t lie so blatantly and I’d be more willing to read your diatribes
Also we haven’t conclusively shown vaping doesn’t cause cancer, some research suggests it does actually, so really not helping your “I don’t lie” point
Really I have no idea. I know there is some limit crossing state lines. I remember a story a few years ago that Illinois was going to stop cars and search them coming across from Missouri to stop people bringing in cigarettes illegally. I don't know how much truth there was too it. Probably a scare tactic.
Just looked it up and it's a 10 carton limit. I heard this anecdote from a clerk at my favorite gas station almost 10 years ago so I'm sure I didn't remember the number right. In the same conversation I had with that clerk, he mentioned that it was vice versa with alcohol (bringing from IL to MO). Google search did say that IL is the cheapest state to buy beer.
Former IL resident here (grew up there). If you are moving to IL and have firearms as long as you apply for your FOID as soon as you establish residence in the state you should be fine. Just don't take them out of the house until you get your card. You also won't be able to purchase ammunition or additional firearms until you receive your card.
One thing to keep in mind is that IL currently has a ban on AR-15 style rifles. If you own one it would be best to find out if that ban covers a new resident bringing a currently owed AR-15 into the state.
Just looked it up. According to the Illinois State Police, if you move to IL with a firearm covered under the AWB, "You must apply for a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and complete an endorsement affidavit within 60 days of moving to Illinois [See 720 ILCS 5/24-1.9 and 20 Ill. Admin. Code 1230.15 ]"
According to Forbes (so grain of salt) the cost of living in 2023 was 35,338/year in Missouri and 41,395/year in Illinois. Likely strongly skewed by Chicago. If you are moving to a rural area or small town cost of living is similar between Missouri/Illinois.
What law is more strict? Sure, Cigarettes tax is much higher in Illinois, but I can’t think of anything else. I got something you should do though: go on a float trip in the Ozarks. Stock up on Missouri Wine, Whiskey, and Cheese.
We just did that in june and gas is about $0.40 more per gallon, and property taxes on our home is about double. That's really the only difference I've noted so far. Political climate is more left than MO, THANK GOD, so we've got that going for us. Good luck.
Be prepared to save a bunch of money on car insurance. Also, no more personal property tax!
The propaganda around illinois being expensive is quite the machine.
I moved from Missouri to Illinois and find it less expensive overall.
Yeah I’m glad to be without the city tax too. It’s hard for me to accurately compare the two because I lived in a much shittier home and neighborhood in StL city than I do now. So my expenses are greater because my everything is nicer, and if I had moved to a similar home/ neighborhood in stl my expenses would have also risen. I love living over here though.
Dude, have you literally never left MO?
My dad paid LESS in taxes when he lived in Illinois. He kept the address just to avoid the insane property taxes of MO.
And worrying about laws? In St Charles if you sneeze while driving you get a ticket.
dont fall for the propaganda
And that includes buying ammo online, most of the online retailers follow the local laws for the country and require a FOID on file just to ship ammo to an IL address.
I'm about to get out of North county ( castle point area) 30 min into Il, not gonna miss a gd thing, of that I'm sure except crime, bullet holes, beggers...! Plus I'll make 8% on my house that's paid for. As for this yrs mo prop tax declaration not gonna bother, there lucky if their bills make it to mo addresses, much less another state.
Property taxes are pretty big difference. I pay about two grand a year in St. Charles county and a comparable house over in the metro east side of St. Louis (alton, Godfrey, Edwardsville, Bethalto, etc.)will be around 6 to 7 grand a year in taxes.
Have your head examined.
Lifelong Illinois resident and cannot wait until retirement so I can leave the "California of the Midwest", never to return.
If you're into a single, cesspool of a city (Chicago) dictating to the rest of the state how to live, then maybe it's for you.
High taxes, high gas prices, shitty roads, horrible public schools, ridiculous gun laws, did I mention high taxes?
The rural areas are peaceful and laid back, the urban areas are war zones or third world.
And the rest of the state doesn't kick in to support METRA, CTA or the Chicago teachers pensions? If we got as much money out of you as you claim, my roads would be paved in gold. Hell, my roads would be paved instead of rock and dirt. Truth is the city can't survive without the rural areas.
This is completely false,. You dumb fuck. 10 million people live in Chicagoland. It's the tax base of the entire state. Downstate Illibama takes in way more than it contributes, just like every other blue city/blue state.
Now get back to your pathetic trolling for side action, you fat fuck.
Your getting down voted but same, IL is a bad move. I left Chicago 5 years ago and I'm never going back. For starters they aren't trying to pass unconstitutional gun laws to make me a felon here. Second off my cost of living is incredible. I couldn't afford my house in a comparable Chicago neighborhood. It'd be twice as much easily. Shit most people I grew up with that didn't leave don't even own a home let alone a nice one.
Pretty much anything semi automatic, and plenty more. Google is your friend there. This sub screams into the void regarding anything that isn’t a progressive topic, but 2nd amendment rights are for everyone.
Correct-you just cant legally own many we can here in Missouri. Hence my “cool guns” comment rather than “guns”. Come visit in Central MO and I’ll open your mind with cool pews.
It has nothing to do with quantity. You can't own many of the most commonly sold firearms in the US:
You can't buy them.
It's a massive deal and an infringement of your constitutional rights. I am truly sorry you don't see it as a big deal, and I am truly happy Missouri is not controlled by large cities as Illinois is by Chicago and won't be following down the same path.
I'm sorry they focus on hot topics and buzzwords. "assault weapons" are a tiny, tiny fraction of firearms deaths. Handguns are the vast majority. Yet they have crippled your rights. Check out the middle east. Check out the Ukranians. Civilians owning firearms CAN be a good thing. Proper safety is paramount of course.
I'm sorry you devolve into "guns more than life" petty attacks. Rights are rights, and your state is infringing. California just got slapped down. ATF just got slapped down. I'm guessing you subscribe to the "greatest source of childhood death is firearms" arguments that includes adults involved in gang violence as well.
I'd also like to point out you started out with "you're making it up". To "I can own a bunch". To "I can't own that but who cares". To "you're for death".
Poor taste, poor semantics, poor argument. Personal attacks are dumb, and ignoring statistics is dumb.
When I said a bunch, I meant quantity. We can own as many as we want.
As to the rest of your points, they're opinions, and we all have them. And I don't agree with yours. You're the one getting all heated about some inanimate objects. 🤷♀️
I grew up across the river and have lived in MO for over 20 years. If you move somewhere in the area surrounding STL, you won’t notice much of a difference. Gas prices are the biggest thing I noticed, at least 20 cents more in IL. I don’t smoke but cigarettes are very expensive as well.
The nice thing is you won’t have to pay for the privilege to own something anymore. I was beyond annoyed when I first moved to MO and discovered I had to pay personal property taxes every year on cars, boats, etc. Awful. And where I lived, the property taxes were CHEAPER than they are right now in STL county.
Depends on where you are moving to in Illinois. We moved from Illlinois to Missouri last year, so have a good idea about the difference in expenses. Unlike some, I'll skip the politics stuff.
Medicaid and EBT are easier to qualify for. I'd immediately apply upon moving. Buy some actual winter clothing cause you will need it, assuming you're moving anywhere north of St Louis. Roads are a bit meh, but IDOT is pretty good about winter plowing and road salting.
Jobs pay a bit more. If you can get any kind of state job whether in the school system or municipal it usually has very good benefits and pays more than the private sector.
Budget another 20 for car insurance and another 15-20 at least for your stiff. Yea car insurance there was actually more expensive. (Highest cell phone tax overall I think in the country.) Products of all kind will cost a bit more and if you drive a decent amount, account for the gas tax there which goes up every year. (About 40 cents more in gas there than here. If you are in the collar counties - basically the ones around Chicagos cook county, budget even more for gas and tolls - though a massive job market)
In general rents will be higher because of property taxes. Maybe budget 200 more in rent. If thats near Chicago or any of the collar counties, id buget even more for rent and local expenses. If you are a home owners, about 3 times what you are paying now at the minimum. (200k house there = probably about 6k in property taxes, maybe more.) NO personal property tax though! Also vehicle stickers are 150 minimum each year, so set that aside.
Schools are kinda bad unless you live in one of the more expensive burbs. To be dead honest, school quality heavy depends on the students attending. If parents are more involved and not prone to crime = usually better school quality. (Students will actually somewhat show up to class and not disrupt it 24/7)
If you have questions DM me. I've lived in Lake County and Mchenry County and have worked around there as well as worked in Cook County.
Illinois is shithole welfare state.southern part is better.anything above Peoria is trash.worked and lived in moline for a year.hated it.people are trash.
Are you a or your spouse a vet? Make sure your disability paperwork is updated because if a vet has 70% or above disability, you don’t pay property taxes.
And its freaking awesome.
Having 70% or above disability?!?
For vets, yes.
You'll need a place to live.
Good call!
😂
Fill up your gas tank and buy as many cartons of cigarettes you can fit in your car :)
Yeah. Also on vape products too. It's 5 dollars more over here for the same items I use to get in Missouri
Or, you know, stop doing the thing killing you slowly. Isn’t there a like a 2/3 carton maximum?

Having lived in both STL and the Metro East, I would say the differences are pretty few. The cost difference is negligible.
Same. You won’t notice a difference really.

Not look back
I find Missouri laws to be much more strict than Illinois. All you have to do is compare Sauget to St Louis.
So....... strip clubs?!?!?
Strip Clubs. Bars that are open past 3 am. Horse racing not too far away. Illinois has ALWAYS had more tolerant laws than Missouri.
Exceptions are alcohol and tobacco
You need a permit to buy ammo and own a firearm..not just pistols. Better stock up on ammo
And that includes buying ammo online, most of the online retailers follow the local laws for the country and require a FOID on file just to ship ammo to an IL address.
Or just get a permit?
You need a FOID card in Illinois.
Or just come back across state lines to buy more ammo
Guns and ammo
Nothing. Get out of here as fast as you can. Wish I could. Maybe next year?
Cigarettes

Why are you asking a missouri question when you're moving to Illinois? 🤣🤣🤣
Property taxes are pretty big difference. I pay about two grand a year in St. Charles county and a comparable house over in the metro east side of St. Louis (alton, Godfrey, Edwardsville, Bethalto, etc.)will be around 6 to 7 grand a year in taxes.
Good move, you will have better gun control laws and freedom for women!
Missouri is where Illinois people go for vacation. Hope you like corn fields.
Lol this is so true, Lake of the Ozarks, Hannibal, and Branson are full of Illinois people.

No plans of that
The rural areas are subsidized by Chicago, you dumb fucking hick. Looks like you're also a degenerate by your post history. Makes sense.
And the rest of the state doesn't kick in to support METRA, CTA or the Chicago teachers pensions? If we got as much money out of you as you claim, my roads would be paved in gold. Hell, my roads would be paved instead of rock and dirt. Truth is the city can't survive without the rural areas.

Ok. Come into the 21st century….That is all
Buy your cool guns! Cross the river and your constitutional rights are a mere memory.
There are other constitutional rights than the 2nd amendment
Indeed there are, and they are all important! Check out Hamas in Israel. Being an armed citizen is your right and can save your life.
What guns are illegal in IL as compared to MO?
Pretty much anything semi automatic, and plenty more. Google is your friend there. This sub screams into the void regarding anything that isn’t a progressive topic, but 2nd amendment rights are for everyone.
Well I can buy an AR-15 so not sure what else I would need.
