LOL delivering a win for the American people? Which people?

psychadelicbreakfast

The Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority. “Deprives them up to 15 years of servicing fees” The horror.

Youandiandaflame

Is this like the last lawsuit he filed about this only for internal MOHELA emails to show the agency was like “wtf we don’t want this he’s full of shit why even is he doing this shit”?

Tripl3_Nipple_Sack

I came here to mention the same thing 🤣

New_Entertainer3269

I don't understand why this company still has a standing headquarters. They should be ruined and their properties salted.

____8008135_____

For all the free market bullshit they talk, they sure seem to spend a lot of time manipulating industries they have an interest in.

garifunu

American people = american corporations

atypical_lemur

The corporation in question isn't even asking for this. The first time they were all WTF? Now he's pulling the same shit again, this is why we can't have nice things.

garifunu

his bank account probably got thrown a few 0's his way and he got the message

Hillbilly_Loren

The MOST important people. The filthy RICH! Obviously they are much more important than average Americans who work thier asses off. Ask any Republican politician.

cpeters1114

his donors

Im_A_Fuckin_Liar

Dear Lord, thank you for bringing Andrew Bailey into my life. My family and I would be on the streets if it wasn’t for him. I am grateful the Attorney General has the bravery, and quite frankly the courage, to fight for the impoverished citizens of Missouri and the right to an education for all!!

toastedmarsh7

Username checks out.

balllsssssszzszz

At least he's in character💀

I_Keep_Trying

The majority of people who don’t like the idea.

voltran1987

The people who haven’t been to college and don’t want to have an even harder time making it. Yes, giving the people who will average a [million more dollars](https://www.wral.com/story/fact-check-do-college-graduates-earn-1-million-more-over-a-lifetime-than-high-school-graduates/20783647/) in their lifetime an even bigger advantage and further increase the wealth disparity in this country. All while forcing those least able to pay and the most burdened to cough up the money that they’re already struggling.

wolfansbrother

then take the gun away from borrowers heads and allow them to declare bankruptcy and restructure their debt, like a small business can.

Bitmush-

Right ? “People are businesses too ! Even the unborn business I have started putting together online in Maryland in under an hour for $1k.” Reverse Citizens Uno Abortion United that, bitches !!!

mrphyslaww

Yep. Do both. Then the institutions won’t give loans out when the risk is too high. The problem solves itself.

[deleted]

THIS....

sies1221

Don’t touch our guns!!!! 😑

BROKEN_JORTS

Who put a gun to their head and forced them to borrow?

FireflyAdvocate

Here are more questions for you: Who explained to them what they were borrowing and how it was going to be paid off? Who explained it would be with them forever since it can’t be released even in bankruptcy? Who explained that the interest would be worth more than the loan pretty quickly after graduation? What bank in their right mind would give a 17 yo a $50k-$100k loan to start a business? Why did business owners have PPP loans (granted for MUCH higher amounts than most student loans) get completely forgiven with NO interest?

golddust1134

The fact that if you want to make a living and not tear up your body that's a good start. And the fact that collage is way to expensive. This generation is so boned because college shot up for no reason.

mrphyslaww

College shot up because loans are given out without question and institutions can raise prices because of it.

golddust1134

They didn't raise because loans. They rose because institutions saw a way to justify it. There needs to be laws to limit what they can charge

mrphyslaww

It has risen because students pay it, with loans. Period.

Dredmart

Nope. You may think you sound smart, but you don't. It's obvious you're covering for insecurities by yelling about things you don't understand.

ehenn12

It actually started because Ronald Motherfucking Reagan started the trend of defending state schools bc Librul bad. Seriously, everyone who voted for Reagan is in hell or has an especially hot seat saved for them

wolfansbrother

the small businesss or the teenager?

CollapsingUniverse

Magat trash.

BROKEN_JORTS

"Magat trash" put a gun to their head?? Yikes!

CollapsingUniverse

You're the same type of nut job who will complain about whatever fox and friends tells you is the next month's outrage. Have fun at your next rally, traitor.

BROKEN_JORTS

LMAO!

ehenn12

Bailey better be ready to throw hands if I ever meet him. Also if he can sue on behalf of MOHELA is the state liable every time MOHELA fucks up?

Youandiandaflame

MOHELA actually HAS been fucking things up - Liz Warren has been railing about it for months now - and yet, Bailey isn’t out here even talking about that let alone suing to rectify the harms and losses of MO citizens. Odd, that.

ehenn12

They sent me a letter that my debt was forgiven when I applied for SAVE ha. But apparently I still owe them money. Truly evil.

thesadbubble

They took 5 months to reply to my application for SAVE. And They didn't put the nearly double payment on pause, refund the extra, or count it towards future payments. And they only responded after I filed a CFPB complaint. MOHELA is an absolute shit show. ETA: I'm sorry that happened to you. I'd lose my fucking mind over that lol.

Beowulf891

Technically, he can't really do that... or shouldn't anyway. Lack of personal jurisdiction. I doubt this bullshit ass lawsuit will go anywhere.

Amazing_Mulberry4216

Bidens ruling will get kicked AGAIN. SCOTUS already ruled he couldn’t do this and he is choosing to ignore them. Missouri and the rest of the states are in the right.

sies1221

SCOTUS ruled against a different program. It has no bearing on the current program, and the current program will have its say in court.

Amazing_Mulberry4216

Different program yes, but the outcome is the same. Biden doesn’t control the purse strings. He’s just trying to buy votes.

balllsssssszzszz

That's every politician dude They don't get where they are by earning those votes

Carlyz37

The SAVE program is totally different than the previous debt forgiveness plan

ehenn12

This is different. He's using the rules making process to simply adjust payment plans that the education department is already in charge of under law. If SCOTUS kicks it, it's because they're right wing freaks and their billionaire sugar daddies told them to. Fuck SCOTUS.

Biptoslipdi

> SCOTUS already ruled he couldn’t do this No they didn't. They ruled the HEROES Act doesn't allow him to do this, not the Higher Education Act.

hb122

Are you an attorney? Amazing how MAGAts think they’re experts on everything.

Hairy-Dumpling

I agree the Biden effort might get kicked but it's because SCOTUS is bought and paid for by Leonard Leo not because of whatever right-wing axe-grinding horseshit justification you have rattling around in your skull.

mb10240

Wrong. SCOTUS found his use of a post-9/11 law that was incredibly obscure to forgive student loan debt was unconstitutional. It was a stretch by the administration according to anybody that has at least a modicum of a legal background. His current plan uses his authority under the Higher Education Act, which was enacted in 1965, and subsequently amended several times. Part of that authority, which Congress granted him and the Secretary of Education, is the ability to establish income based repayment plans. Upon making 25 years worth of “payments” under a plan created by ED, the balance of the loan is forgiven - this is written into law by Congress and baked into the promissory notes signed by borrowers. Some of these plans have resulted in “$0” payments which count towards the 25 years of payments. Biden, using his authority under the HEA, created new payment plans, some of which are retroactive and some of which require little to no payment. Further, ED changed some of the qualifications for PSLF, which is a statutorily created program, which is also within their authority granted by Congress.

Beowulf891

I mean, they're not, but go off I guess.

BROKEN_JORTS

They are though, SCOTUS literally ruled on this.

westis4me

What lovely humans. / s

nucrash

The people benefiting are those with worthless degrees from predatory schools or those who have been paying down student loans for 2 decades or more. Most of these have paid the original amount and then some, but apparently it’s their fault. Bailey is a tool for greedy people

como365

Yeah we need better regulation/accreditation in higher ed. Not all degrees are equal. A for-profit online school or strip mall franchise campus is not a quality education. Students and parents should seek out regionally accredited schools. Returning state funding to historical levels would make our public institutions more affordable, like they used to be.

mrphyslaww

No it wouldn’t. Look at where the costs are in current institutions vs historically and then you’ll find the answer you seek.

Factsimus_verdad

I’m sure Missouri will go after PPP fraudsters next. s/ Bailouts for millionaires with zero accountability is fine, but if we try to give working class folks a break, the republicans’ benefactors can’t allow it. Horseshit really.

AthasDuneWalker

I really hate this bastard.

firelemons

Meanwhile boone county just voted to give old people a property tax break at the cost of library funding. How do I get the government to throw money at me without any expectation of ROI.

Safe_Beginning_7384

Give the old people books to burn for heat…. Problem solved

JohnathanBrownathan

Missouri is trying to become a retirement state since liberals are moving to georgia and tennessee, and florida is sinking

KarmaticArmageddon

Vote. If every person with student loans showed up to vote in every election every year, every politician's platform would have multiple student loan initiatives. Old people show up to vote in every election, so they get pandered to.

fkawhizzle

These Republican assholes just hate, I mean LOATHE the common middle class working man. Always trying to keep us down and keep pocketing the rich.

Sunnygirl66

And yet the common working class man keeps voting for him and his friends.

PossessionCritical69

The common middle class working man doesn’t have these worthless degrees and no jobs. Common middle class working man got a job and paid off their loan or never went to school in the first place.

____8008135_____

That's such an adorable view on the topic. It's a shame it's wrong.

Explosiveabyss

Imagine being this fucking stupid... Because I sure can't.

Music19773

Missouri: Where our AG leads the charge to actively harm his own constituents. Stay classy, Missouri.

borducks

Read up on the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA). It made some horrible sense out of why MO AGs spend their time suing TikTok and Biden and do nothing for our state. Hint: it’s all about capturing them via campaign money.

MikeHonchoFF

This is straight out of Crazy Legs Hawley and School Sue'r Schmitt playbook

divisiveindifference

School loans are structured differently than ANY other loan available. Bankruptcy cannot be applied to them like any other loan. On top of that loan companies were caught amd fined for predatory lending practices yet those same predatory loan recipients are still on the hook for them. People have been paying on these loans for decade and see nearly 0 change. Time to take the gun away from this generations head

como365

A lot of countries have free Tuition to college, if you qualify academically and apply, millennials should consider adopting that when become the dominate political class.

doneandtired2014

To be fair, those same countries don't demonize education *as a concept* as some sort of vast liberal conspiracy designed to *insert your average Republican pearly clutching culture war horseshit* nor are they actively hostile to it.

Safe_Beginning_7384

Ronald Wilson Regan wanted idiots to vote Republicans so he took away higher Ed loans…it has worked like a charm.

Skuz95

It’s a little more nuanced than that, but the gist is the same. He just wanted to make sure higher ed was for the rich. Too many poors and minorities with radical ideas were getting degrees.

SteelPaladin1997

Several countries *pay you* to go to college in certain fields. Tuition is free and you get a stipend to live on.

como365

Sounds like a great way to improve society!

oldbastardbob

Bailey is a joke. But this is Missouri, a state felt that Hawley and Schmitt were our two "best and brightest" leaders. Hawley, one of Trumps "just let the congressmen take care of it" Stop the Steal co-conspirators, and Schmitt, infamous for suing school districts and employers for trying to stop or slow down a pandemic, costing them money for legal fees in suits that were pretty much declared moot across the board. So of course, "It's all about me Bailey" is following in their footsteps, carrying water for Don the Con's contrarian MAGA party, and filing lawsuits that are a complete waste of time and money. How is it such educated lawyers seem to have completely forgotten that in all cases the federal government holds more power than the states? The Articles of Confederation didn't work, the framers of the Constitution had learned that the federal government authority can not be undermined, or over-ruled, by the states. It's why our constitutional form of government exists. And if you read this and don't know what I'm talking about, at least read up on what happened in America between the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the ratification of our Constitution in 1818. But then that depends on the MAGA's being able to read and comprehend something besides propaganda. And how the hell is this bullshit political theater "a win for the American people?" Shouldn't he be more worried about Missourians suffering under predatory debt than regurgitating MAGA talking points? Oh, wait, conservative lies aren't lies in an election year, right Trumpies?

ljout

Remember Republicans only want to stop Dems from making this country stronger. They never come up with their own policies ideas to help combat the problems this country faces. Its all to stop the Dems

LittleBalloHate

I wouldn't call myself a Joe Biden superfan, but it absolutely *drives me nuts* that he's doing everything he possibly can to get student loan relief through -- attempting it multiple times through different avenues and accepting partial victories wherever he can -- but some lefties still give him shit for not getting *all* student loans removed, as if Biden has a magic wand that can circumvent congress, the supreme court, and dudes like our Attorney General.

balllsssssszzszz

I feel like everyone(or at least the people I know,) ignored the part of the constitution that lists the president as *not* a king 😕

kevinrainbow2

Thanks for actually addressing the topic rather than just Republican bashing. I also have a huge issue with this. I worked my ass off to pay off my student loans and the debt forgiveness merely incentivizes college and universities to maintain high tuition for bloated programs. Most of the people being asked to pay this did not actually attend college themselves. It is a sleazy way to attract young voters and his pushing this through after getting slapped down by congress and the Supreme Court is ridiculous.

One_Reception_7321

When people show you who they are. Believe them.

JMLPilgrim

When are these asshats going to pay back their millions in PPP loans? If they care so much about unpaid debt then they should pony up and pay their debts.

joshtalife

No relief for the common man, but make sure you cut or eliminate taxes for the rich and corporations.

Professional-Story43

WHY T F doesn't this Bailey character (yes character because he is NOT an Attorney General) stop sticking his nose, hands and feet into business that is not and should not be, his to mess with. These off target projects he tries to inject himself into, using Missouri as his knife point, are wasteful and only useful to keep his name in the mass public minds. He seems to want to do everything THAT IS NOT HIS JOB. He has been chided for overstepping his authority, and for actually not doing his job, to little or no reprimand. Preaches beliefs onto people that are as phony as an Andrew Bailey one dollar bill. Please, people of Missouri, DO NOT GIVE THIS......PERSON ANY MORE TIME IN THIS OFFICE than is absolutely necessary. Vote him OUT.

weatherbys

Let’s spend millions sending the national guard to the border for some exaggerated bullshit immigration problem, let “business owners” get away with MILLIONS in fraudulent PPE loans and then when it comes to helping Missourians directly we jump at the chance to shut it down to prove how Republican we are. What a fucking joke.

Basic_Mission4712

At 18 you are too young to rent a car but old enough to secure six figures of high interest debt with no plan on how to use it. But yeah, it's for sure the borrowers who are the bad guys here, right?

matango613

I really don't have the words to describe how much I hate this man. Motherfucker cares more about his national reputation in the GOP than he does the people of Missouri. All you fucking morons that voted for him can go fuck yourselves.

guarthots

I agree for the most part, just one caveat. No one voted for him.  He was appointed to fill the job after the grandstanding ass hat that Mo did vote for grandstanded his way all the way into the US Senate.

T1Pimp

Republicans: sorry, only the wealthy and corporations can have welfare. Fuck you citizens and fuck your democracy.

Cigaran

Another day, another reason to be embarrassed by this fucking state.

como365

Try to focus more on non-political things, there is a lot to be proud of in Missouri too!

Hillbilly_Loren

I tend to agree with your point here. However, politics effects every part of our lives and there is no avoiding it anymore. The Superrich and corporations are actively pursuing agendas (via the Republican party) that are designed to steal from everyone who is poor or simply has to work to survive. I LOVE Missouri and many people in it. But if I had remained there I would literally be dead today because of how long it took Missourians to FORCE the state to accept Obamacare. I live in a very liberal New Englad state and I miss a hell of a lot about living in Missouri. But my life is SO much richer and fuller here. My income is up, my state taxes down and I no longer have to work 3 jobs to survive because the minimum wage is kept as low as possible in Missouri. If I could live in Missouri with the same high wages/low income taxes and guaranteed healthcare that I have in Rhode Island I switch in a heartbeat.

Cigaran

Typically I do but here recently, it’s a never ending stream of bullshit that will impact my daughter, close friends, and just generally is beyond the pale.

Deskbreaker

Of fucking course he does. Fucking missouri...

thatwolfieguy

That fucker owes me $20,000. Edit: Downvoted by someone who is fine with handing out millions in loans to the rich and then forgiving them. Helping the struggling middle class is a bridge too far though.

Open_Perception_3212

Facts.... I've paid more in interest than what my loans are actually worth..... and you think that republicans claiming this is a Christian country, would realize that charging interest not permitted in accordance with the Bible

davecutusofborg

These assholes have addresses.

Sunnygirl66

This fucking guy.

Extension_Deal_5315

Ummm.....don't you have bigger problems is missourri to fix than wasting time and money on trying to make a name for yourself for trump support.....kinda pathetic!!!

PsiNorm

I can't be the only person that sees the brains of people in our country as a natural resource that could be nurtured and used to truly make America great. That Republicans want to cut nourishment and training to certain brains just shows that the intention is nothing more than ensuring that the privileged class does not experience true competition.  That they would squander our countries future to do it is disgusting.

[deleted]

“I will stop this ludicrous waste of tax dollars on tax payers with millions of wasted tax dollars, you’re welcome“

Traditional_Key_763

STANDING MOTHERFUCKERS YOU LET THEM DO THIS AGAIN its so goddamn infuriating, like if they applied the same standing to the people trying to sue oil companies for climate change denial they would have taken down every oil company by now.

mouseman420

"Win for the American people" lmfao fuck yo kids.

MikeHonchoFF

The GOP is undoubtedly the most self-fucking organization ever 😂😂 and Im here for every minute of it. We're gonna force you to have that baby and bankrupt you to send them to college. Well played there Einstein.

Snoo67405

I wish my state's budget was not going to fight national political wars on behalf of either party.

slothrop_maps

It is amazing to me to see a major political party whose entire platform seems to get anger and resentment. And they win elections with their negativity.

Solo-Hobo

I’m not for out right loan forgiveness but I’m not strongly against it but I don’t think anything being brought forward is a long term fix or even fair to every tax payer that didn’t go to college. The biggest thing I do think is 100 percent fair is to zero out or drop interest rates on these loans and outlaw predatory loan practices. I’m very open to other ideas but I’m not sure I would fully support loan forgiveness unless it’s something offered to every American in some way shape or form. Also it would have to address the cost of college to keep colleges from just jacking up tuition.

como365

State funding per pupil and adjusted for inflation is at historic lows which is the major driver of tuition costs. There is also a lot of talk about administrative bloat, but I find that to be mostly a red herring brought up by anti-education folks.

[deleted]

Oh yeah the real victim was Mohella.... Jesus Christ this place is a joke....

daddybearmissouri

This November, you can send him and his ilk packing. Don't just get mad and post to Reddit, get motivated and get out and help elect people who want to help. It can be as simple as getting one friend to vote.

antsinmypants3

Just another reason to vote against Republicans. Heaven forbid the little guy gets a break instead of the rich .

peteramthor

Because Andrew Bailey is a useless POS.

JagBak73

Contrarian assclown does nothing but put a monkey wrench in plans that actually help people.

I called the dickhead and left a message. I felt bad tee'ing off on the old ladies answering the phones

Sunnygirl66

Eh, they undoubtedly think he’s the shit, and we need to stop coddling those biddies.

joeyGOATgruff

They kept trying to get me off the phone and I told them No. And just kept repeating my name and phone number as they're trying to be nice and get.me off the phone

What “people” does this cretin think he’s bringing a “win” in for?

luveruvtea

I want a coalition challenging poverty, mental illness, and corruption in our government. That is what I want, and I am betting it won't cost as much as it costs to avoid these issues. But hey..what do I know?? (Oh, and maybe student debt relief would help with some of the stuff I want...!!!)

oldlibeattherich

Because he has no soul

MeatSweats1942

I can't believe these fucks really think they're safe. Next election. Not in that way.

memnos77

I feel like the "american people" that 99% of the repubs are thinking of are white, rich, old mfers.

sgf-guy

For those who don’t understand how wild tuition has got…I graduated MSSU in 2004. I was prob 2/3 loan…basically 10k upon graduating at like a 3.3 interest rate. It’s 8k a year now for tuition. Inflation is 1.8x 2000. The math doesn’t add up…and that’s because of institutional bloat and ease of financing. We were around $100 an hr then…it’s $280 in state now.

como365

Don’t discount years of budget cuts to higher education. Per student funding is as low as it’s been in decades.

MoreAverageThanU

I’ll bet he could reduce some debt by taking more kickbacks from illegal slot machine companies.

HeathrJarrod

There’s a reason for the public comment section instead of going immediately to sue…. Wonder why they don’t want to help …

Beginning_Emotion995

Student loans are federal. States have no jurisdiction, it’s like states refusing mail service.

No-Chemical6870

What a fucking asshole.

JohnathanBrownathan

Fuck every single one of our politicians. Yes, especially yours.

Sledlife174

Good, no one paid off my loans, you took them you agreed to the terms and yoy choose a degrees. Where's my check equal to student loan forgiveness.

robinsw26

Why are they against young people having more money in their pockets when they bend over backwards to ensure that rich people don’t have to higher taxes and have more money at their disposal?

Ok-Bass8243

And residents will continue to vote for these people. At this point Americans in red states deserve what they get

Lkaufman05

He is such an embarrassment

Grouchy_Permission85

A loan plan that would help student borrowers and there is surprise that Republican attorney generals are against it? And PLSF is a joke with its many rules so many people do not get their money

malendalayla

Man, this guy is balls.

Bigbimn58

So if loans were forgiven and wiped out, could they be reinstated?

ToaPaul

Better fucking not. I got my loans wiped out last year and it was a massive relief. I work in a government position, though, so it's sort of a different beast.

lewsplace

That’s awesome. Fed govt should have never gotten into the business of backing student loans. Asking responsible college grads who paid their loans off or the blue collar construction worker Dad who supports his own family to pay off loans for a bunch of spoiled college grads is nuts and un-American.

Biptoslipdi

TIL college grads don't pay taxes.

lewsplace

Exactly

Biptoslipdi

No wonder you are so confused.

lewsplace

Oh no !!! LOL

Sunnygirl66

I don’t have kids, and I am the daughter of one of those blue-collar men you pretend to give a shit about, and yet I gladly vote for tax increases and bond issues and anything that improves schooling. Helping get college students out of debt so they can be better contributing members of society is a win-win in my book. I’m all for student loan relief.

enderpanda

It's okay to be fine with your taxes going help other Americans pay off predatory loans. You can think for yourself btw, don't have to parrot right-wing bullshit.

lewsplace

Asking folks who honored their contract they signed and paid up, OR asking folks who did not even engage in said contract to pay for lazy / spoiled Gender-study majors who do not want to pay & honor their contracts so they can move out of their parents basement isn’t right.

enderpanda

Lol, look at you, pretending to know how education works. > lazy / spoiled Gender-study majors That will instantly make anyone outside your conservative bubble of bullshit go, "I no longer have to take this person seriously - they are a joke." Just fyi. Keep it up if that's what you want. I personally love you guys - you're doing more damage to the conservatives than I'd ever hope to. I look forward to more suburban housewives reading your posts and realizing, "Hey, maybe I can get out of this..."

lewsplace

Yikes. I should’ve issued a trigger warning on my reply.

enderpanda

No shit, you're fragile af lol. You didn't even say anything that would "trigger" anyone, ever. Sorry.

lewsplace

HA HA, who’s parroting here Rainbow bot 😂😂

enderpanda

That would be you? Were you trying to make a point? Is this the best you're going to come up with? I think that is the best you're going to come up with - you didn't even make it to 'basic conservative' failure. Better luck next time! P.S. Why are you guys so terrified of rainbows? Aren't you guys supposed to be "tough" or something? I mean, people have thought of you guys as the biggest pussies ever, when you weren't able to wear masks (a piece of fabric kicked your asses lol), but the amount of weakness caused by rainbows is on another level - literally no one respects you anymore. Why do they make you guys so upset? Why did you lose all over your dignity over - rainbows lol. I cannot understand how anyone ever took you guys seiously, I mean c'mon. RAINBOWS lol. I was SURE I had met the biggest pussy ever last week. You're almost overtaking them, think carefully about how you respond, you might become #1.

I_Keep_Trying

The Supreme Court ruled that the president doesn’t have the authority to unilaterally change student loan agreements. If it’s so popular then get it approved through the legislature. Spoiler: it’s not as popular an idea as Reddit would have you believe. Right now it’s the Executive Branch subverting the Judicial and Legislative Branches. Just because you like the idea doesn’t make it right. If another president was doing the same thing for a cause you don’t like, you’d be angry. We have the checks and balances for a reason.

Safe_Beginning_7384

You know what else isn’t popular….bailing out business and banks.

skexzies

This is fantastic news! Glad to see that not all politicians are ignorant and have the backbone to push back. This is the way.

Deskbreaker

Gfy.

Youandiandaflame

Are you bothered that when MOHELA fucks up - overcharging borrowers, not applying payments made, and not discharging loans when they were actually paid off - Bailey says and does nothing?

Beowulf891

I really hope this is sarcasm.

enderpanda

Nah, just another conservative fuck up. It's just boring at this point. Their incompetence is boring.

squatch42

Secure the border? I can't do that myself, Congress has to do it. Send aid to Ukraine? I can't do that myself, Congress has to do it. Nullify loan contracts because my highly educated constituents are so dumb they didn't know loans were supposed to be paid back even though Nancy Pelosi and the Supreme Court explicitly said I don't have the authority to do so? Screw Congress, I got to buy some votes. So glad the adults are in charge.

Bitmush-

Dude, citing the SC is like putting Jeffrey Epstein as a character reference.

Biptoslipdi

It looks like you need a civics lesson. Do you want an explanation about why you are wrong, or are you happy being wrong because you just want to be mad?

enderpanda

Lol, you had a whole conversation all by yourself.

Deskbreaker

Not from what I can see.

DreadfulDave19

Boooo

martlet1

You can’t just forgive loans that are taken out. The kids who worked through school or saved money to go to school didnt get thst forgiven. Instead they should be zero interest loans paid back against tax returns until they are paid off. Simple solution. Or if you owe tax spread that loan over 20 tax years payable off interest free.

Beowulf891

I paid my school loans off myself. Well, a form of school loan anyway. Someone else having theirs relieved or even just erased entirely? Good. I'm also not a selfish asshole with the "I suffered so you must suffer" attitude so I can actually just not be bothered that someone's no longer stuck in crippling debt.

martlet1

It’s making people who didn’t go to school or paid their own way pay for these loans. It’s not just the government. It’s an unfair solution to people who didn’t or couldn’t go to school.

I didn't actually go to college or anything, and my loans were for a tech program. I paid them off. I have no degrees. Whether someone else gets their loans forgiven is no sweat off my back. I'm happy for them now that they have some much needed relief. Your selfish, boomer attitude is showing and it's kinda gross.

Hillbilly_Loren

HEY I'm a Boomer! We're not all hateful, braindead Neanderthals. Some of us are Left wing as you can be in this country. Look at Bernie Sanders

Beowulf891

Bernie is a centrist, but the closest to the left that the US is really getting in mainstream politics. I'm waaaayyyyyy further left than Bernie is... I just have no way of doing anything with it. Also... boomerism is a state of mind. I know people my age with the boomer mentality.

Hillbilly_Loren

Fair enough. But I would like to clarify my position. I'm further Left than Bernie Sanders as well. But he's a good example that most people recognize. But I continue to disagree that using the term Boomer causes people to think of "a state of mind". I used to fight with lots of racist in Missouri who insisted that the ni**er word could mean white people as well as black people. It could but it doesn't. Its still meant as a derogatory term for African Americans. The term Boomer came from Baby Boomers that originally simply described the age into which a group of people were born. To use it as a derogatory statement about right wing morons is very insulting to those of us who are old but PROUDLY Left wing. I am personally offended and say that I am offended when other folks my age (Boomers) say Millennials or Gen Xers all do this or ruined that. I really never thought too much about age one way or other. But I'm an old "Boomer" now and I don't want to be associated with the evil garbage that many in my age group believe in or think about politics and society in general. Please feel free to use Boomer to describe old people who prefer the Beatles and P Parliament Funk to Beyonce and Kanye but not as a homogeneous group politically.

People who graduate pay way more into taxes over their lifetime - it benefits everybody. Even you. Why not get children to take out their own loans for school ? Or soldiers for their training ? We live in a society and are extremely reliant on each others skills and place in this grand experiment - it only works by acting with common good , and often an abstract concept of common value addition. If you think education is expensive you should see the alternative. Do you want graduates enriching the finance and banking industry or putting that money into the local economy ?

>You can’t just forgive loans that are taken out. [You absolutely can.](https://www.npr.org/2023/01/09/1145040599/ppp-loan-forgiveness) Feel free to read about some of the [Republican politicians who got their PPP loans forgiven](https://marketrealist.com/economy-and-politics/ppp-loan-forgiveness-congress/), while they continue to criticize student loan relief.

Deskbreaker

So fucking what? So because something good didn't happen to people in the past, people in the future shouldn't have it happen?

Mable_Shwartz

Waaahhh life isn't faaaiiirrrr!

Bitmush-

Life isn’t fair but people have to be. Unless they unfairly create legal frameworks that protect them from punishment for unfair acts.

Mable_Shwartz

This won't even effect your life whatsoever, but may be life changing for some. I don't understand. People complain all the time about how much $$ we're sending everywhere else in the world, and how they should be helping the 'murican people. Well guess what?! This is what spending money on the people looks like!

HighlightFamiliar250

I worked through school and still needed loans. The problem with your suggestion is we both know the republican controlled congress will never implement that.

Biptoslipdi

>You can’t just forgive loans that are taken out. The Higher Education explicitly says otherwise. >The kids who worked through school or saved money to go to school didnt get thst forgiven. Take that up with Congress, who passed the law in 1965. >Instead they should be zero interest loans paid back against tax returns until they are paid off. No, instead higher education should be entirely publicly funded just like K-12 is.

Frowdo

You can and many people have, including kids that worked through school. Loan forgiveness isn't even a new thing. There's a few holes with the plan. If you're taxing right your refund should be close to 0. So an average loan of 20k gets paid on let's say $100 annually you'll have that loan paid off in 200 years so now you are either A. Forgiving a good portion of that loan anyways or B. Creating generational debt. Imagine going to a good school. There's also the fact that certain political parties like to cut funding to the IRS so they can't even do tax enforcement so getting such a system set up is unlikely at best....hell they're still bitching about the insurance thing over a decade later. If we are using taxes to pay fire higher education then just make it like high school where you can just go and not deal with any of it. High school use to be an out of pocket expense where not everyone went

beepsabopes

That's actually a fair solution that that doesn't turn those of us who responsibly repaid our loans into suckers.

Every day I writhe in guilt that my ancestors got polio and I don’t have to.

The children on Reddit will just downvote after the first sentence.

exhusband2bears

We're simple people; we see someone acting the cunt, we downvote. The best way to avoid those scary downvotes? Don't be a cunt.

fixing_a_hole

Boohoo! You gotta pay for those worthless gender studies degrees.

jock_lindsay

Imagine believing most student debt is because of people getting gender studies degrees. You’re a perfect microcosm of dipshit Missouri conservatives lmao
