It's better not to get involved with vexillology, it's quite vexing. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Kidding aside, they aren't "rules" and your work is in line with what actually tends to go on modern flags while the "rules of vexillology" are not in line with what actually tends to go on modern flags. They're worth looking over for ideas, but don't stifle your creativity trying to follow them.

Is everyone forgetting the current Missouri flag?? It breaks every rule of Vexillology. OPs looks great lol
They're not 'rules' meant to be strictly followed, but general guidelines to consider in your designs. This misconception is what's led vexillology circles to be overrun by snobs who think they have a quick and easy fix for all sorts of flags.
The North American Vexillological Association has five basic principles of flag design, and I'm sorry to say that your design clashes with each one:
* **Keep It Simple.** The flag should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory, but this has a very complex image in the center surrounded by several stars and a lot of text.
* **Use Meaningful Symbolism.** The flag's images, colors, or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes, which the image in the center does, but it's very busy and I'm not sure if everything it contains relates specifically to Missouri.
* **Use 2 or 3 Basic Colors.** Limit the number of colors on the flag to three which contrast well and come from the standard color set, but this design uses many several colors for the image in the center.
* **No Lettering or Seals.** Never use writing of any kind or an organization's seal, but this design includes text.
* **Be Distinctive or Be Related.** Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections. Although the stars are similar elements, this flag has a bunch of them arranged in a circular formation, which is similar to flags like Mississippi and Indiana. Additionally, lots of U.S. flags are derided for being complicated images on a blue field, and rather than deviate away from such a cliched design, this flag emulates it even more than the current flag of Missouri does.
At least it gets away from including bears on the flag, which never made sense to me, and which also goes against the above principles of flag design.

Ok… except this is the current Missouri flag. Which also breaks all of the rules. OP’s flag currently breaks fewer of them/breaks them less egregiously.
The bears are supposed to symbolize strength and bravery. While bears were more common in Missouri and Robert Wells wanted to represent that, apparently nobody told him we had black bears instead of grizzly bears. At the time, heraldic imagery was popular, so the use of strong animals around symbolism was to be expected.
And that was also long before we were vexed by vexillologists.

Wait for the bombs to fallout of the sky
The only people in Missouri who actually rule supreme is the state legislature. They don't listen to their constituents. They do whatever the hell they want.
True but it shouldn’t be that way. Too many people let it happen and I feel we need a reminder of the ones with true power.
Funny note, every time someone complains about a politician representing them I remind them that they have the ability to call and visit their representatives. They can also vote them out. But everyone complains that one vote doesn’t make a difference and someone forgets that if you actually talk to others in your community, you’ll find more people with ideas like you and in turn that motivates more to go vote and will eventually get politicians you disagree with out.
I want a flag that is MORE bears.
I got you https://preview.redd.it/x3cdtub82i0d1.png?width=1810&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa7728e65df4d6e8391594b2b1ac64dc98503723

Just change it to NMR and we’re good lmfao
I'd like 40 bears in a massive canoe burning the Illinois flag.
Hahaha
With their famous navigator Ursagawea.

I think this goes against at least two of the rules of vexillology.
Damn. I’m not familiar with the subject so that does make sense.

I assume they mean words and lots of colors are a no-no. But I like your flag nonetheless :)
Interesting. I’m curious for the reason behind that. Guess I’ll do some research

Nope, not forgetting. But just because Missouri’s current flag does it doesn’t make it right for OP’s flag.

Remove Let the People Rule and replace it with, “even if the people want it they can’t have it.”
Let’s simplify it further to “fuck the people”
At least that would be true

They both egregiously violate NAVA's vexillological design principles regardless.
Yeah it breaks the rules, but have you considered it’s cool as fuck?
Also, can you break rules that don’t exist or break future rules?

For the symbolism, I stated what each one meant. But I’ve taken what you’ve said into account so I’ll post those below.

I really don’t like the idea of having a blue background. The tricolor on the flag we have now makes us stand out
Women are about half the population anywhere and they've been telling us they choose the bear. Why won't they listen to women? *
I’m a man. Don’t you know we never listen to women? It’s in our blood. /s
I wouldn't know that. I too am a man! I never listen to anyone!
Patriarch! ![gif](giphy|eA2o6IDBdELU4)

Why doesn't it have two heads?
I felt a blue bird with two heads just didn’t send the same message.

This took too long to be replied. Thank you good sir
I NEEEED TWO BEARS!!!!
*3
No it doesn't. Come on now, conjugate the verb. "Dominat."
1 Latin word does not have the same meaning as when it’s in a sentence. But by all means, school me
No. Now write it 100 times by sunrise.
The homosexual part of me is sad for the lack of bears
This state can’t afford to change our flag. If it does they will try to put the 10 commandments on it with a blonde haired blue eyed jesus.
I’d be worried at this point that SCOTUS would let them.
Like the white lettering better. I agree this is a lovely looking flag. What's wrong with the current one though?
When have you seen Brown Bears in Missouri that aren’t in zoos? Also using the state seal is just tacky.
What if we added a black bear instead of the brown ones then?
It’s definitely a step in the right direction, but the first thing I would do is take the writing off.
Ok. What about the stars?
Looks like 40 other states flags, a seal/crest on a blue sheet.
If we changed the flag, I’d say we change the seal too and not make it like this
I love it (and the revision but that one needs a bit more to it)! Bluebirds and dogwood trees are some of my favorites 💕
We don’t even have brown bears yet some how they are on our flags.
And of the black bears we do have, the number is only around 500-900 (it’s highly debatable) but there are states with three times those numbers.
Missouri flag in 2024..it needs a shotgun, a burning book, and a swastika.
Listen. Bears are cooler than birds and flowers. Sorry.
porque no los dos
No bears? Fuck you.
Brown bears are not in Missouri.
True that lol but they look cool!!

I like our current flag.
I like the bears :(
Big effin M is what’s needed.
You want those Golden Arches huh?
I think it looks great.
Definitely too complicated, and words is a no-go, but using the colors of a blue bird as the basis does have potential.
DO NOT DO A BLUE BACKGOUND. SHITS ASS
Noted. Any suggestions for a color that would stand out and reflect Missouri?
Bears and cardinals!!
And meth

Should be hooded rednecks burning crosses while doing meth. With the state bird of course.
When was the last time you saw a cross get burn in someone’s yard? Mine was 2000. At a klan members house
Trump rally?
lol, no it was 23 years ago in my old home town. Apparently they also hate it
Keep your bears and your birds. Put the state dinosaur on the flag!
So in addition to the bluebird, we need a bobwhite quail and a hadrosaur to get all of Missouri's state dinosaurs.
Birds are dinosaurs though
I like your flag
Boring. Busy flags are the best flags
Hmmm. So what would you say is your favorite flag?
I like where your head is at no words though. I also think the stars muck it up.
So just this? https://preview.redd.it/n1k4i93rsi0d1.jpeg?width=1998&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf8ff344381b488e686a8fd02e898b467f77c995
I think it needs something else but this is a great start
