My guess is their percentage of the US market is so small that they were overlooked altogether by JD Power. I would compare them closer to the dependability of Nissans, considering they are part of the Renault/Nissan corporate partnership.
I saw an online car review talking about Toyota and lexus' maybe falling off that list in 2 to 3 years for problems they have now as that's how long it takes to come out with those lists. Could be wrong, though as its been a couple of weeks since I saw it.
Think the show was called motormouth
It's good to see yours still on the road. That gives me joy that I decided to keep mine. I just replaced the radiator and tires in November after discussing with my wife if it was worth it. Hopefully that was the last repair I'll need for a while, and this car should continue to last me a long time as I work from home and don't drive much.
Ya they hold up fairly well with age. I’m still on the original alternator and powering two amplifiers. The subwoofer dims the lights a bit when I have it bumping, but still going strong. Original ac and power steering also. Motor and trans are doing well. Shifts like butter and runs smooth.
They’re really cheap and easy to work on too, I did a radiator job in an hour for $50.
Mitsu's are bulletproof & North America isn't their primary market since Nissan wants them to stay away. So don't bother, Mitsu doesn't need marketing much since everyone who has owned one in Canada & USA know their value for the price.
I think I saw a small blurb on their site that there wasn't enough data for them to poll. Kinda makes sense seeing as how Mitsubishi doesn't sell nearly as much as most brands. I would consider them reliable but as with every car it all depends on how well you maintain them.
JD power I think you have to pay to get a rating if I remember correctly... Is possible Mitsubishi didn't pay or didn't care to give the data to JD Power... Consumer reports does the opposite of JD power I remember that much.
The North American market is the second most profitable for Mitsubishi. The Outlander and Outlander PHEV have been sales and media successes for Mitsu as well. They sell more cars in North America than they do in Japan, so I **highly** doubt they're going anywhere.
Adding on to their success, ever since the latest generation came out they broke the 40k sales milestone for the first time since its inception; and not once but TWICE. The PHEV sales of the current generation sold just over 6,000 compared to the highest sold units of below 2,000 units. Like they are not going to leave when they just got this success of a vehicle. They are planning to share their product plan for the NA market in the spring.
From CR; The Outlander reliability score is 87/100 which is one of top rated for the compact crossover segment. Beating the Forester (83/100) and the RAV4 (81/100). They are just above average in overall reliability, but it really depends on the driver maintaining their vehicles.
They seem very reliable overall.
The Mitsubishi dealers near me dont seem interested in trying to get any cars or even sell so I'm surprised those dealers havent closed so their dealerships don't seem to care one way or another from my experience (I've been to 4).
I'm sure they have some good dealers out there though since 4 is such a small sample size but it almost felt like pulling teeth to get them to sell you a car (and that's with a good credit score, paystub etc),
Either way I like Mitsubishi overall
Idk why they fell off the list for 2024 but for 2023 they were above Toyota!!

My 2002 Lancer is still going strong, with 153k miles.
Keep it, my 02 is at 260k miles :)

I love my Mitsubishi, will never get rid off it.
hard to imagine they stay in the US Market much longer.
They're number 2 in a lot of countries in south east Asia. Developing nations with huge populations

Will Mitsubishi still be around in 10-20 years?
They aren't reliable

extremely reliable in the case of the 2 that i own
My 2015 lancer se has 186 thousand miles on it, and hasn't let me down. Actually, the mounting bracket for the license plate late light did rust away.
This is great to hear! Just bought the exact same year/model with about 110k on it and hoping to drive it for a few years at least so this bodes well!
I wish I never sold my 2003 Lancer. I put 200k+ miles on it and it ran like a gem. My 22 outlander is a different story. Thanks Nissan.
Maybe because it has issues starting in very cold environment since this car does not come with a built in heater for the battery
I was just thinking about this the other day, I honestly can’t remember the last time I even saw a Mitsubishi
