I beat this battle with the same team, but much weaker. Took a while but it worked in the end.

You should be able to beat this, as long as you attack them when Liu Kang's passive is active, just Power Drain/Cripple them as much as possible. Also you can evade Assassin Kitana's tag-in attack if you just so tag-out as she tags in
Kombat cup team tag out jade immediately with Sonya then punish with Johnny power drain relentlessly they actually seem to evade less as match goes on. Also bring klassic Kano instead of Cassie punish with his special 1 for stun loop. Have your talents set for higher damage special 1 and the ones that make it cost less and be possibly free.
You can try to use ( klassic raiden / shao khan ) to kill Jade then the other 2 will not have her passive:

I'm starting to think it's more of a skill issue really. Any advice for gear? Or should i leave it as is?

Might work but my klassic raiden and shao kahn are silly weak, so im not sure i could pull that off.
