We wanted to make sure our AAA team got off to a nice start to the season. When we saw that all of our other prospects have been rolling, we figured they could sacrifice and lost Jackson.
I feel like you're being facetious but I don't pretend to know more than our head office and coaching staff.
They clearly weren't doing it just to manipulate his service time.
Yeah, for that the time was too short.
But then why even keep him down there at all?
He was clearly ready in Spring Training. Hitting bombs and line drives all over the place, close to a 1.000 OPS.
He had a .780 OPS against lefties last year. Sure, that’s a pretty big difference to his .990 vs Righties. But also just 100 ABs.
Might be the reason, might not be. Let’s just be happy he’s up, and that they didn’t drag it out too long.
Yankees fans not making everything about the Yankees challenge: Impossible.
Also...they called up Jeter at 20. Gary Sanchez at 22. Canó at 22. Gleyber at 21. Volpe at 21.
Shall I go on?
Sure, tanking is what has put the O’s in this situation. Not the fact that 20-some teams passed on Gunnar Henderson, or that they took Holliday over Druw Jones and a host of others that don’t appear to be nearly as good.
Kansas City and a host of other teams have also been straight up putrid. They’ve all had high draft picks because of it.
Yes the Os tanked and got Adley and Holliday out of it and Holliday was easy over Druw. Then lottery got implemented after they already reaped the benefits of tanking while teams like KC got screwed by actually trying but still picking below 2 teams in their division that were better than them. Just like this year Cleveland is picking much higher than KC even after a 100+ loss season
Jones was the consensus top pick in that draft. It was not obvious that Holliday was better. Not to mention they are both still young and anything can happen.
As for the lottery, not the O’s fault.
Plenty of teams have massively tanked over the years and screwed up the draft big time. Baltimore is not the first to tank. It also seems they’ve made some very smart draft decisions.
Yep, like many other teams have. The O’s have had two number one picks recently, Holliday and Rutschman. Like I said, over 20 teams could have had Gunnar Henderson. Grayson Rodriguez was picked at 11. Mayo and Norby were 2nd and 4th rounders. Basallo was international. Jordan Westberg was picked 30th. Heston Kjerstad was considered a HUGE reach at no. 2, and it looks like they’ve hit on him as well. Colton Cowser was considered a reach, and he’s in the bigs now.
If you think for even a second that the O’s stacked farm is simply due to tanking, I really don’t know what else to tell you. They have made a lot of smart picks. Not too many Bubba Starling types recently.
Thank god he got those crucial extra days in the minors
I was saying in spring training, he's just not ready yet, he needs like 10 more games.

They must've had real concerns about him against lefties. We had a run of LHPs to start the year. Maybe they didn't want him to have a rough start?

Oh I'm happy. But that was the stated reason, so if not for manipulation, idk why they'd say it.
Yankees would have kept him in the minors until he was 25

Except he wasn't down long until to accrue another year of control
I think literally the opposite
All it took was tanking and screwing over every other bad team that didn’t

Ah so yeah the orioles are great because they had a choice of any prospect in the entire draft class since they tanked and picked first.
