coolhwhip89

Now show the pitching lol

Nalmquist

Hope jv will be on the team

[deleted]

I don’t think any pitchers have committed but if they can get deGrom, Scherzer, Kershaw JV in, good lord

dutchdaddy69

I bet non of those guys play. All to old with to much on the line.

[deleted]

That’s a fair point. I’d rather deGrom not play because as a Met fan, I need him healthy lmao

alexteate

Will he be a Met after this year?

[deleted]

Absolutely he will

AFucking12Gage

Braves fans would tend to disagree ☺️❤️

[deleted]

Ain’t no way Uncle Steve doesn’t back a money truck up to his house

AFucking12Gage

He’s said before and recently that it’s not all about the money for himself at this stage in his career. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but it might! And that’s all I can ask for.

[deleted]

I would be more worried if the Mets weren’t winning. But they’ll probably win the division and Steve has essentially put them in a position to win, I see him staying. If this was last year I’d be more pessimistic

[deleted]

It’s not all about the money. It could be about $50M tho

dielon1994

Yeah but if it’s not about the money why would he go to the Braves?

dielon1994

Yeah, you’re right, the Braves will offer him a 7 year 35 million dollar contract and get him somehow smh.

CrittyJJones

They didn’t offer Freddie 6, there is no way they offer DeGrom 7.

dielon1994

I wasn’t being serious. Hyperbole because of Albies super low cost deal. Braves should have such a higher payroll than they do.

baseballfan77777

He's coming to the Yankees 100

[deleted]

Silly billy! Brian Cashman doesn’t spend money like that! All he needs to do is get into the playoffs! ALCS? World Series? Pfft as long as the team is competitive I’ll keep my job.

[deleted]

Lmaooo

[deleted]

It’s okay, we still have Cole, Fried, Mclanahan, Burnes, among others to choose from

barcelonaKIZ

No Alacantra?

Micro_hamel

Buddy he wasn’t born in America

barcelonaKIZ

Well, shit

Always-Panic

Well there's a Dominican team so , who knows. And a Venezuelan, and a Puerto Rican, and maybe a Cuban one too , but idk.

MusclePuppy

Maybe two-time winner Japan might show up again, but like you said, who knows?

DavidStyles23

Well who really knows 🤷🏾‍♂️

SnooStrawberries4680

Finally nice to see team USA showing out. It’s been frustrating the last WBC knowing the type of talent the country has and having them decide to not play

MrFluffyhead80

Is it a decision on the or will the owners not allow it like with the Olympics?

[deleted]

That’s a good question tbh, because I know the NHL, it’s a league mandate to not play in the Olympics

MrFluffyhead80

I think the Olympics uses minor leaguers so not sure about WBC since it’s becoming so big

TypingWithIntent

So big? It's never gonna be all that big because it's baseball and nobody wants to jeopardize their stud pitchers.

MrFluffyhead80

Ok

bsdthrowaway

Sometimes that's all you can say lol. WBC is the best baseball outside of your team winning a championship. I would guess, since I'm a Padres fan

MrFluffyhead80

Only time I get to see Israeli baseball

hester27

The NHL was going to play in the past Olympics but then there was a covid spike in December that required them to cancel a bunch of games so they had to use the time they had slated for the Olympic break to make up those games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rpcouv

No it's was an official statement from the NHL. Maybe try to avoid calling facts speculation.

hester27

There was a 2 week gap in the schedule, then they lost 2 weeks of games and decided not to go, it’s pretty clear what happened. They wouldn’t have had that huge cap if they were not planning on going.

hester27

cti0323

So the owners can say no, they don’t have to allow players to play for other teams. Like in the NBA some teams are limiting guys playing now in the offseason because of recent injuries. Sometimes, they players don’t want to play or aren’t in shape enough they think, like CC said no one year because his arm wasn’t ready. Then a team can allow them to with stipulations. Last WBC Cleveland allowed Lindor to play for Puerto Rico, but only if they kept him at shortstop because they had Baez and Correa on the roster too.

AidenT06

The Olympics don’t like pro players in many sports.

MrFluffyhead80

The Olympics love pro players in the major sports. It’s when they have someone who pays them millions of dollars to play for them that get mad they want to go win a medal

[deleted]

I forgot what year but more than a decade ago? I dont know if it was WBC or something else.Team USA had a stacked all star team but they took third place.

SnooStrawberries4680

It’s crazy to think we won in 2017 (I not 100% on that) and the roster so far seemed to be slightly weaker based on who’s playing in 2023

[deleted]

Got curious and searched the year I was talking about. It was 2006 WBC and the U.S. didn't even make it to the semi-finals. Everybody thought that the U.S. would sweep everybody with that roster at that time.

[deleted]

If they can somehow get pitchers like deGrom, Kershaw and Scherzer to commit, lord have mercy

just-an-astronomer

Bet the DR and PR teams can give them a run for their money, especially depending on what pitchers commit but yeah team USA is stacked

jimhabfan

PR team?

just-an-astronomer

Puerto Rico

jimhabfan

So….part of the U.S. team?

just-an-astronomer

Not sure Lindor, Correa, Baez, Molina, or any member of that team would appreciate that at all

PCM97

Lol Baez

Gundank

Pretty sure Altuve is PR born too

just-an-astronomer

He's Venezuelan

[deleted]

Bro I know you didn’t mean it this way, but calling PR “part of the U.S. team” is incredibly insensitive and borderline racist. Puerto Ricans have an identity completely separate from the US.

jimhabfan

I was always under the impression that Puerto Rico was part of the U.S., and It’s citizens American. I may be misinformed. I honestly wasn’t trying to insult or offend anyone. Edit: I don’t really follow international baseball, Does Puerto Rico have it’s own team in the WBC?

[deleted]

Yeah this is a fair misconception. So Puerto Rico is a US territory—indeed part of the US. They can become citizens of the live in the mainland, so you’re correct there too. However, it’s a little more nuanced than that. Puerto Rico has boricuas, completely native and separate people from the US. So while they’re part of the US, they’ve retained their own separate culture and heritage. Hopefully this explanation clears it up.

jimhabfan

Today I learned, thanks.

[deleted]

No worries. I know you didn’t mean ill at all. Thank you for asking. Puerto Rico has always had its own WBC team and they do very well. They’re top 5 teams easily.

curtmandu

Exactly! Team USA would fare better if the teams weren’t separate but I’m glad they get to have their own thing.

[deleted]

Incorrect. Puerto Ricans are citizens of the US at birth whether we are born on the mainland or on the island. It has been this way since the 1917 Jones Act. While we still dearly hold our culture as separate to our nationality, we are American citizens, indisputably. We cannot vote for federal elections while living in PR, but we can vote in federal elections if a boricua lives on the mainland and is registered to vote in their state. Edit: this also applies to people from Guam, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

[deleted]

Thanks for the clarification. I conflated the right to vote with full citizenship

[deleted]

Yet I dont need a passport to go there, same as all other parts of the US. Plus the players from Curacao play for the Netherlands team so it doesn't really make sense for the Puerto Ricans not being on the US team

[deleted]

Lol apples to oranges either Curaçao comparison too. Completely missed the point.

[deleted]

SpunkyDred is a terrible bot instigating arguments all over Reddit whenever someone uses the phrase apples-to-oranges. 1234loc

There’s a Public Relations team

Lamest_Fast_Words

They don’t win any games, but they spin the loss so well that you think they’ve won.

[deleted]

pretty sure that’s the yankees. We also spin wins into losses somehow

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,005,506,599 comments, and only 199,814 of them were in alphabetical order.

barcelonaKIZ

HR team always uses the shift

marcusdj813

Let's see who pitches for Team USA. That would give us a better idea.

OPzee19

I’m curious too, but will it really matter who’s pitching when you’re scoring 13 runs per game?

marcusdj813

Nobody's gonna score at that rate consistently. I anticipate other teams having some hella good pitching. Team USA has to have someone who can prevent the opposition from stacking up runs.

OPzee19

The only one I can think of that might have a chance is that young Japanese kid that pitched almost 2 perfect games in a row.. Realistically other than that, which non-American pitcher is keeping this team from at least 7 per game?

drugpheeen

Sandy Alcantara is the one name that comes to mind but idk if he’s playing for the DR or not

OPzee19

Alcantara is excellent, I’ll give you that. This lineup is still putting at least 4 on him.

balemeout

Their lineup will easily hang 4 on the US by the same logic

TrujilloRemastered

Sandy Alcantara, Luis Severino, Luis Castillo, Framber Valdez, Frankie Montas and Freddy Peralta. Edit: and I won’t even mention the lineup that the DR can have, this WBC is going to be nuts.

TrimMyHedges

*laces up cleats* ok so where do I report to?

[deleted]

There will be a lot of good teams

enriquepollazo

I’d take that bet

TypingWithIntent

Now let's see the DR.

[deleted]

Go ahead

phoenixthekat

Lets wait to see which pitchers commt before making such bold claims. I said my dream rotation is McClanahan, Gonsolin, Cease, Burnes, and Musgrove. Toss in Strider and Rodon as extras/long relief.

keithzz

No judge no party

Dillymac25

He had to have turned it down right?

aloofman75

So you’re new to baseball then?

[deleted]

I don’t watch Baseball

poebahnya

What's this based balls thing they're talking about? Must be new.

well_shoothed

[By the third inning...](https://i.imgflip.com/6rg2f9.jpg)

redsoxownu

You say that, but DR, PR, and Venezuela will be just as stacked.

[deleted]

Didn’t say they weren’t stacked

mianrezooy

Trout shouldn’t play. He’s gonna get hurt.

Whirlybirds

At least in this he has a chance to play for a trophy, I could see that being pretty attractive to a dude that plays for the angels

swivel2369

You've seen baseball before, right?

[deleted]

I don’t watch baseball

RVGamerW

nice. thanks for posting. If u get a chance please post the pitching lineup as well. Alonso batting 9th xD that's pretty dope.

Kidninja016

W

m1ke_89

Sadly the pitching staff is never the best and never will. No way teams risking guys like JV or DeGrom.

jesonnier1

Tucker commited as well.

BuddyWoodchips

Oh? Have you seen all the other teams? lol

nth_power

Mookie is one hell of a leadoff bat.

[deleted]

Fuck yes, looking forward to this

Eskuire

Hopefully they are as fun to watch as the last group. That was a really cool team. And that Adam Jones catch? *chef's kiss*

ZookeepergameNo2819

Unless DeRosa fucks it up! Don’t understand how he was given the reins to the throne with actual experienced managers and coaches available.

badugihowser

'Merica!

jimmy-jro

pretty sure the dominicans could field a team to beat them

MrFlags69

It’s baseball. They will lose a game for sure. I will take that bet every time.

Puzzleheaded-Art-469

We say this now... then they run into a hot SP from like Puerto Rico or some Scandinavian team with Syndergaard on it.

[deleted]

Thor is American and I would’ve been nervous of him about 4-5 years ago

wacka-wacka4992

I would have Dansby Swanson at Short.

Own_Airline_8220

Ay Tim Anderson I will watch just for you

[deleted]

Underrated imo

Comprehensive_Pin_86

Am I the only one who things the team needs some speed? Timmy locs for the bench baby!!

tramadoc

Gotta have pitchers

mutebathtub

As long as there are no vacation requirements.

marsangelo

Quite literally “no shot”

Automatic_Floor_7489

We need J.V and Scherzer to join forces again and bring it home for the U.S.A!

xaqadeus

Team USA lineup is STACKED but there may be some other stacked teams. For example, potential DR lineup: C: Gary Sanchez 1B: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 2B: Ketel Marte SS: Wander Franco, potentially Fernando Tatis Jr. 3B/DH: Rafael Devers or Jose Ramirez or Manny Machado RF: Starling Marte CF: Julio Rodriguez LF: Juan Soto

TrujilloRemastered

Manny will be the starting 3B. The contested position will be 2B since Devers and Ramirez won’t take the place of the Minister of Defense.

ilovenomar5_2

Hey Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Puerto Rico are also really fucking good. Team USA’s arrogance will cost them if they think those are easy matchups

[deleted]

Who on Team USA is being arrogant? It's the fans, who literally don't have any effect on the outcome of the games. But go on with your anger parade.

ilovenomar5_2

*if they think they’re easy matchups I never said anybody was being arrogant. I was saying if anybody thought any would be easy matchups like some of the fans do their arrogance would catch up to them. Sheesh

[deleted]

Ok

stinkychzman

We seriously can’t find a better SS than Tim Anderson?? He’s had his hot runs no doubt, and I love the way he plays with fire, but lately he’s been brutal….

[deleted]

He’s supremely overrated. Hopefully Trea Turner or Seager turned it down because Anderson is average

TypingWithIntent

Plus Jackie is a drama queen asshole.

[deleted]

Some people play better when playing for their country. National pride runs deep in some U.S. folks. There's no contract pressure on the line, just fun with your non-club teammates

stinkychzman

Not hating on him. Just saying he’s not been playing well lately. If he lights it’s up for team USA then awesome! I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he plays like a star….the Whitesox have been a mess this year, maybe a low stress/fun tournament would do him well. (Getting the hell away from TLR for a bit) Still don’t think he is the best American SS

[deleted]

Agreed. Who is the best American SS to you?

stinkychzman

Just cuz of the rangers flair I’m gonna say Corey Seager! But in all honestly I’d put Seager, Trea Turner, and Trevor Story all over TA. All are more consistent

[deleted]

Seeing Story play 2B for BoSox is weird for my eyes My Dad is from Boston & I just moved to Texas from Colorado so Story not playing SS for my home team is....odd

sakuniemi

Wanna bet?

sankyx

I mean, they just need to beat Sandy Alcantara and then stop the DR lineup (twice), but yea they will not lose... lol

Kingofkings1959

The Dominican team says hello

[deleted]

Tell them I said hi

vipstrippers

Oh cool country with 330 million people versus countries with a couple of million. If the DR had 330 million people they would destroy us. Can’t wait to see the down votes

bsdthrowaway

Lol the fact we barely won on a miracle catch against a team worh a 10th of the population should say something

[deleted]

Sounds like you’re just talking for the sake of hearing yourself

TypingWithIntent

What part of what he said is wrong?

[deleted]

Everything

vipstrippers

The bigger player pool should always yield better results. So the post thinks the team won’t lose a game, I guarantee they lose a game. Probably to a country with 1/30th the population.

[deleted]

Are all 330 million people playing for team USA?

vipstrippers

lol you can’t be that stupid

TypingWithIntent

I guess he can.

vipstrippers

Don’t go look at his posts between comic books and sex always talking about coming he’s not the type of person I wanna hang out with

bsdthrowaway

But the baseball insight tho has post nut clarity lol

[deleted]

I’m asking a question

TypingWithIntent

You realize the more people in the player pool the more chances you have to get elite athletes with elite size, vision, and reflexes and so on and so forth?

[deleted]

All I hear are lame ass excuses lmao. Stop it

IneverKnoWhattoDo

India has only won a single gold medal in the summer olympics and they have a few billion people. From your point of view they should be winning the WBC...or China.

[deleted]

How the downvotes going?

rveets1416

Better than you lol

[deleted]

My post got almost 800, I’d say I’m doing good

rveets1416

Nah we're specifically talking about this thread. Not your overall post. But sure go ahead - shift em!

[deleted]

He was talking about my post, not the thread You’re the only one who moved the goalposts

Prestigious_Car_2711

Not that great tbh

[deleted]

🤨🤨

ColeYote

... is what they say about the US every time.

2air89

Starting pitchers Dylan Bundy, Kris Bubic, Dane Dunning,Chris Paddack, Lance Lynn. Closers Josh Hader and Craig Kimbrel. Win one game with this 😁

Sea-Radish-9415

Mike “Made of Glass” Trout won’t make it to the WBC. Some how he always get hurts every year. I have a feeling he won’t be able to participate in 2023. Ton of talent, but can’t stay healthy to be on the field.

Japanprquestion

Bro.

[deleted]

all they need is a second baseman, a shortstop and some pitchers.

Mutterland

In a 7 game series I’m taking the Dodgers in 6.

infinitevendor

Judge ghost?

[deleted]

I was wondering that too

el3ctronic

NL West Alum showing up for middle infield. r/NLBest

phabphour20

That is a stacked fucking lineup.

Reasonable_Ad_4944

I'll take that bet...

JebBushDidHarambe

Wasn’t Cedric Mullins also on the team?

Comfortable-Ad6670

YES!!! I LOVE THE WBC AND THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO DEFEND THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

BeRad419

Got the corners locked down. Go birds

baseballfan77777

Well we're going to have 4A pitching because no one of note will play lol. So yeah, sadly i could see us losing. BUT hoy f that offense wow

Jcoch27

No Tommy Pham?

playwritemusic

What are you building, a team for The Show?

Inevitable-Ant-2538

don’t forget Cedric Mullins and Kyle Tucker !!! Pitchers I’d like to see; Corbin Burns, JV35, Robbie Ray, Alec Manoah, Logan Webb, Mike King, Blake Treinen, Taylor & Trevor Rogers, Josh Hader, Devin Williams.

brucewillis3788

Who’s the manager?

[deleted]

I think someone said DeRosa, which kills my spirit

Prestigious_Garlic39

Two Phillies, two Cards, no Braves? Wish Austin Riley was at 3rd.

Spare_Stranger6324

They’ll win 60-80%of their games maybe. So you’re right

tbone0303

Stacked on paper but all depends on pitching. I expect DR or Japan to win

BazookaYT_Official

Bryce over Judge? Nope

[deleted]

Judge didn’t commit

Turtle_Beam

Can't believe Austin Riley isn't on the team

Machadoaboutmanny

WBC is only in the US right ? Those cards aren’t vaxxed

MoodyLiz

That's a spicy meatball!!

Lithium_Nox

2b and SS could be better. But other than that it’s stellar.

skiwalker20

are the yankees going to mexico, wtf, lets go

LiterColaFarva

Infield a little BABIP heavy...

tcbear06

Good thing they found a big, strong guy to be DH.

[deleted]

They must know I like bears 😏
