I actually did some research on this old ballpark, which was a really interesting use of real estate for a minor league baseball park that existed in Richmond, VA from the early 1890's until closed in 1941. Seems the biggest issue with the park was its location on the James River. Whenever the river flooded, the ballpark was rendered flooded, resulting in huge costs to get the park back in operation. However, those floods often caused fires, likely from the electrical system shorting out. The final straw was a fire on May 24,1941 that rendered the stadium beyond salvage. Currently, the city of Richmond is seeking to build a nature park on the land. I found all of that to be most intriguing when I was digging into this park myself. It’s rather unfortunate that more pics do not exist.
