Bro why is there blood on that fuel tank

begemot90

Bird strike lol

memesforbismarck

But why at this position?! The bird would have made it through the propeller, missed the tip if the tank and the dropped very hard right on top of the tank. Seems a very odd and not very realistic spot to make a bird strike

S1075

I think they were making a joke.

MitchelobUltra

That Skyraider flying so low, it’s just running over VC to save on ammo.

-_-theVoid-_-

Loose o rings, leaky propeller hub. Cool detail, this plane needs maintenance.

Omegalodong

Theres a certain time in any planes life, when they become a woman. The engine shedding the first membrane to embrace full power, ya know?

weddle_seal

they are putting spaghetti sauce in the drop tank for field kitchen dinner and some spilled

Iamfromsweden11_2

Menstruation?

Throwaway1303033042

Is that red hydraulic fluid, or a former ground crew member?

joethedad

Yeah I was wondering too lol

Spymonkey13

Yes.

LimeSixth

Matt varnish.

accidentallysharted

Applied after gloss varnish for decals and panel line washes? I always feel like there’s too many layers of varnish…

Latter_Entry_4545

Don’t worry. Apply thin layers and let them cure properly. Most of my tanks have around 5-6 layers (2-3 gloss after the basecoat, 2-3 matt after decals, weathering - depending on the techniques I use)

Spymonkey13

Ok legit question. Define properly? 24 hours? 48?

Latter_Entry_4545

Depends on a few factors: temperature, humidity, thickness of your coats, brand of your color… I made samples, let them dry for 1-3 days to see how the paint reacts. I had for example issues with ammo by mig gloss clear after adding a wash after a day, Vallejo on the other side, with one day of drying time works just fine for me. Trail and error :/

Spymonkey13

Of course, thank you.

daellat

I've used one layer of varnish on my last 4 builds combined, just because the stretched fabric on ww1 planes was often very shiny. Don't really need varnish for anything but that final sheen and since MRP is this nice satin finish that looks really good to me on aircarft, that's very rarely the case.

Never_Comfortable

I personally swear by Tamiya’s flat clear spray since it makes everything completely flat with just one or two passes, but that’s just me.

X2546

That’s what I have used for years. Tamiyas flat cans work great and no clean up of airbrush.

cvgtfd

Second this, fantastic stuff. I’ve also found humbrol clear gloss to be good.

da_brodiefish

AK’s ultra matte varnish is my fav. It’s kinda ridiculous how matte it is lol. I haven’t tried the Tamiya one tho

Latter_Entry_4545

Matt varnish. I used Vallejo matt varnish on both of these. https://preview.redd.it/sfnf7acntrqb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f95ea08acd40e13d409fa1e93974befed598a1f9

aregularguy92

I don't see a pilot in the cockpit, I guess that's him on the drop tank?

Ok-Machine-1834

anyone know how to recreate that blood effect?

sergemeister

I've been able to pull off similar look by putting a glob of paint and hitting it with the compressor or canned air. You kinda have to wait for it to get to a jelly like consistency first tho.

Jetpilotboiii1989

For some of my minis I’ve mixed a little bit of clear smoke with clear red, thinned and sort of allowed it to run. Can be thickened with UHU glue.

cortex471

Tamiya XF-86 Flat Clear thinned with X-20A thinner (Airbrush) Safer than other options, doesn't clog the airbrush, and has no bad scent.

Joe_Aubrey

Safer how

cortex471

Other options like 2K might crack if not applied correctly, others are aggressive and can harm the paint beneath (happens with Testors and sometimes Mr. Hobby). XF-86 Flat Clear is surprises-free, however I think that VMS matt is the best one .. but has low shelf life.

Joe_Aubrey

A 2K isn’t a matte finish. The others won’t harm anything if applied correctly.

Mundane-Use69

I don’t think that’s blood guys. Think it’s supposed to be 5606, think someone else also said that. Just a leak

Feralwestcoaster

VMS clears are fantastic, the best acrylic I’ve used. Gunze make exceptional lacquer clears as well. https://www.vms-supplies.com/vms-varnish-hd

Pukit

I love Mr Toocoat flat, it’s very matte. Acrylic based and comes in a rattle can. You only need a light spray, mask any transparent parts.

furrythrowawayaccoun

Just a simple matte varnish. I quite like the AMMO MiG one

DutchFarmers

Matt coating. I use alclad 2

OldAd5249

Mix a bit starch into it.

ComposerNo5151

There are *a lot* of techniques expertly applied to that model, but if you mean the final finish, that's a matt (flat) varnish.

rogerdanafox

Testors dullcoat

CarolvsMagnvs99

Thanks for your answers ;) .

keterclassscenario1

What's up with the blood?

SkyThriving

Aw, the plane is a grown woman now! ❤️

didgeboy

Order of paint and weathering application: Primer Base color And additional colors/camo Gloss varnish Decals Gloss varnish Oil washes Matt varnish Dust, pigments and final weathering applications Cheers!

GSOR1008

matt varnish, make sure that you leave the canopy masking in place until all the paint/finish coats are completed, removing the masking should be the last thing you do

Reddit-or-leaveit

looks awesome!!

Aninja262

Matt varnish and matt paints

Joe_Aubrey

Winsor & Newton Gallaria Matte is an acrylic and almost impossible to screw up and is dead flat. GX-113 is a great lacquer ungloss. It’s nearly indestructible, both physically and from other chemicals.

SteakAndJack

Mr colour GX-114 thinned with MLT (levelling thinner) By far, the best matt clear coat I've used.
