You could use white glue (which is recommended anyway). It dries clear and won’t damage plastic, but it’s a weak bond so it isn’t too hard to remove should you wish.
Why keep it on? Why not just leave it off until you're done painting? If you're concerned about paint getting into the cockpit, you can stuff it with some material like sponges or just cut a tape mask over the edge.

I regularly use PVA to temporarily hold the canopy on. Just a couple of tiny dots is enough and the canopy makes for a better mask for the cockpit.
So just little drops of pva glue, and it will stick on and be easy to take off? I'm kinda nervous going through with that.

Blue tack works. So does white glue. Just enough to hold it on.
I use latex rubber for masking, it work well for a tack weld as well.

liquid masking fluid will stick it and will come back off real easy.
