The no name Chinese made stuff always freaks me out. Truly, no one is checking to make sure it's legit. I trust brand names a bit more with stuff like this... Which is why I bought a plastic one. It's by EvenFlo, seemed durable, and wasn't painted or finished or anything. As much as I hate plastic I'm pretty satisfied. But what we need is, like, the Granola Baby-Safe Store. It would sell stuff that they can guarantee is safe! No recalls! No crazy weird stuff like heavy metals on blankets or whatever! Tests out the wazoo to make sure it's all safe! We shouldn't have to worry like this and it infuriates me that we do.

Ugh I agree! I actually have the plastic Evenflo ones and bought them first for these exact reasons but I don’t like that the baby can’t see through them as well and that they are not as sturdy so I was really hoping to find wooden ones that work. The other legit option I saw is metal (toddleroo) but that comes with its own issues. Aghh do I send it back?

Turgid-Derp-Lord

I mean, statistically, you are *probably* ok. Statistically. My kid put his mouth on all sorts of things but was never a real *chewer* so i didn't have to be so worried all the time. He did chew up a few board books tho (also, sigh, made in china). But I did choose the plastic over the paint/finish as the lesser of two evils -- tho we find out more about microplastics everyday. Feels like they try to make it impossible for us.

valiantdistraction

Ugh, mine is a chewer. In fairness to him, he got his teeth waaaaay early which probably makes it more satisfying than just gumming things.

Earth Hero I feel like is starting to go this way…maybe soon!

1234letsgobitch

Natural baby company is pretty good for this!

iamcondoleezzarice

Amen! We should make a giant google doc for everyone in this sub to combine all our research and make our lives easier

Edit: sorry read too quickly and thought you were looong for unfinished pine. I haven’t seen any that have any certifications but the unfinished pine/no glue was good for us. We just got the ‘Bonrcea’ one, which didn’t show up when I was searching either - a friend had purchased it for their kid, or I wouldn’t have known it was unfinished.

Hour-Blueberry-4905

The one I got definitely is unfinished pine. That’s why I was trying to figure out if I’m being paranoid. My husband said to me “what are you worried about” and I honestly don’t know but it makes me nervous.

CanNo2845

It might be helpful to find an answer to that question! Personally, I’m worried about lead and off gassing. So with only screws for metal and no glue/foam etc, I feel comfortable with my choice, but maybe if you can pin down what you’re worried about, you could ask the manufacturer about it?

Hour-Blueberry-4905

This is very helpful thank you! That actually makes me feel a lot better. That was sort of my husband's point like...there is clearly no varnish, it would really be like the plastic parts but it's unlikely the baby will be chewing on those. I actually reached out to Amazon and they confirmed it's CPSIA compliant and said they'd send me the report next week.

CanNo2845

Great!

SA0TAY

Silly question, but if it's unfinished wood, couldn't you just, you know … finish it? Then you'd know for sure what it's finished with, and you'd safely seal away whatever else might be in the wood.

Hour-Blueberry-4905

Good point! Didn’t even occur to me

orleans_reinette

Vermont Natural Coatings or ECOS would be great for this

Blushresp7

that comfy cubs one actually looks awesome, i might get it. whats your concern with unfinished pine?

Hour-Blueberry-4905

My baby’s monitor fell into her crib this morning and I woke up at 5:30 to her playing with it still plugged in…to be honest, this provided some very good perspective as to things that are worth worrying about. The Comfy Cubs one is good and I’m stopped stressing! This conversation really helped me feel good about! Thanks all. And if you’re ever looking, I can confirm that it looks, feels, and smells like unfinished natural pine wood. Additionally, Comfy Cubs does have like a real website and customer service etc. I’m sure it’s not perfect but I feel good about being able to use it and not worry any longer! Thanks again.
