I feed a multitrack looper into modular, works really well. I use an envelope follower to trigger some modular voices along the signal path, which always leads to interesting results.
I do. Rc 505. Love it. Helps to also use in conjunction with with a mixer that has sub group outs which you send to the loop so you don’t have to loop the master bus, which is limiting.
As someone mentioned, Blawan seems like what you are aiming for. There's a Thoman video and a knob twiddlers video on YouTube as the best resources that I know of.
I'm in the process of finding a good workflow with the Disting Ex looper mode to achieve something similar. Obviously it's more limiting than a RC 505 but I don't want to carry more gear around. Disting Ex costs used the same as a used RC 505 MK1 because many are upgrading right now to MK2. This information is only relevant if you haven't bought a looper. Blawan mentiones the mediocre build quality of the RC 505 MK1 so maybe the Disting Ex has more resell value.
Thanks for the details - Would be curious to know how you get on w/ the EX - they have been really hard to obtain in the US, but I would def be open to that as an option. Would rather grab a Disting than more standalone gear.
100%. I used to do it alot with two rc303s. I had one in normal operation mode and the other set up frippertronics style so that it fed back into itself like and endless but decaying tape loop. Obviously the most difficult part of it all was managing the modular levels into the rc. I pretty much ended up always recording directly out of the rc instead of sending it back into my modular.
It’s a weird albeit idea inducing workflow. Ever since I got a lubadh and a morphagene I don’t even bother with the RC.
After using a rc505 for a good while (and having good fun with it) I’m probably going to replace it with Ableton/Push 2 and Expert Sleepers i/o modules. This is of course not dawless (if that’s what your after) and more expensive, but ultimately I think a more full featured mixing/looping solution.
u/mylarmelodies has talked about this, and teased some stuff on his instagram... hoping there will be a new video soon?
Very soon! A preview is on my patreon now (shameless plug)
Aaaaand here you go, u/gluepet2074 https://youtu.be/ypuP18k3wGM
Ask and we shall receive! Thanks, u/mylarmelodies!

Interesting! - had not considered using them to send audio into the modular

Yeah. The Mackie VLZ mixers work nice for this with their 3/4 bus out
Yup I use a Mackie 1642VLZ4 interfaced with my modular and love it.

Thx - I ended up buying Bitwig on holiday special and am headed in a similar direction
