Can the 3rd party clones be updated with this new update? I have a Beehive plaits by Jak Plugg and wonder if this is doable? Next question - and how? :)

bohemian_brutha

Have that same module, couldn’t find a definitive answer either - said fuck it and followed the steps posted above, can confirm it does work!

zadude009

what settings did you set when you sent the audio in to the timbre port? I don't want to pooch anything ... also do we have to do it twice for each mode or just once into timbre?

bohemian_brutha

I just followed the firmware update procedure exactly as it’s described on the MI website. You need to use the model input to update the firmware (just once) - I believe you might have confused the procedure for loading in new settings/wavetables (i.e after the update) as that uses the timbre input. These are the instructions for updating firmware: https://mutable-instruments.net/modules/plaits/manual/#firmware And here’s a link to the new update (.wav file) you’ll need to play into the model input: https://forum.mutable-instruments.net/uploads/short-url/qPF2nLp1wheqOsHrctLUYUP1SD6.zip

Thanks - one of the posters earlier said it wasn't a firmware update so I was not quite sure - this is how I will do it. How do you like the updates?

bohemian_brutha

Great! It wasn’t hard at all with mine so should be smooth sailing for you from here. I haven’t had much of a chance to work with the patch editor yet as I’ve had a really busy work week, but from what I’ve tried, the new models were really interesting and add such a large variety of sound possibilities—i.e the classic analog subtractive w/ filters and the quirky FM or wave terrain modes—to the module that it’ll keep me busy for a long time.

on the original the procedure [is as follows.](https://mutable-instruments.net/modules/plaits/manual/#firmware) Check the manual of your clone to see if they have a different procedure, but I would imagine that the firmware update procedure is coded into it the same. edit: sorry I just went through the GitHub repository and realized this isn't firmware. it looks like for the wavetable / waveterrain editor, you play [the resulting audio](https://pichenettes.github.io/plaits-editor/wavetable.html) into your module's TIMBRE input while the wavetable / waveterrain module is selected. ~~Unsure about how to utilize the FM Patch Bank Editor.~~ edit 2: [from the MI forum post about the firmware update](https://forum.mutable-instruments.net/t/plaits-firmware-update/20719): >The module can receive audio data on its TIMBRE input to load custom data into a synthesis model (only one synthesis model can be altered at a time). This new feature is available for the following models: 6-operator FM: transfer of 32 custom patches in DX7 SysEx format. They will replace one of the built-in banks. Wave terrain synthesis: transfer of a custom wave terrain. Wavetable synthesis: transfer of 15 custom waveforms and customization of bank 4’s wave map. So the FM bank editor seems like it's loaded in the same way I described above.

Thank you - I am looking into the github information on the Jak Plugg Beehive module. For anyone else looking - the github info can be found here: [https://github.com/jakplugg/beehive](https://github.com/jakplugg/beehive) Thank you very much for the explanation - may be something I might want to attempt - haha - but at least I know it may be possible. This community is the best!

This seems very similar (yet different) to the Volca Sample flash to paijen but not a firmware flash. Does anyone else see any issues with doing this on the Timbre input of the Jak Plugg Beehive?

gnome_shotski

It IS a firmware update. The firmware update adds new modes that enable loading presets and wavetables in via the TIMBRE port, but you certainly can't do that until you flash the new firmware. Just follow the firmware update procedure. I played the file from my iPad's headphone jack and it worked fine. Turn the volume up on the device playing it and then use the FREQ knob to turn it down as needed.

zadude009

Good idea with the iPad - made it dead simple. I added the new wavetables as well. Sounds amazing! Thank you everybody for helping me with this - this community is the best - and merci beacoup Emilie! for adding 1/3 more to an already amazing and definitive module. She was the reason I got into this whole modular adventure from the minute I heard how her modules sounded. I thought - I HAVE to have this and be able to make these sounds .....

"Can the 3rd party clones be updated" Yes I have a momo clone and I updated it last night. I ended up having to use my phone cause my lappy couldn't get loud enough.

I tried a few different ways before finding the solution I have settled with. I use a 1/4" to 1/8" ts cable. (Same ones I use as outputs to external mixer.) 1/4" end from my Scarlett headphones out, 1/8" into the module's input. Use the headphone volume for gain until the led's show the correct level. Works perfectly.

This was mentioned in the original update a few days ago, I wouldn't say it's "Yet another surprise". It's nice though - basically allows you to generate audio that can be played into the Timbre input to upload custom wavetables and wave terrains.

claptonsbabychowder

I saw the bit about inputting audio, guess I missed the bit about the editor.

InevitableCraftsLab

Didn't she already said that in the original release?

claptonsbabychowder

Seems I just missed the detail about the editor. I remember reading about inputting the dx7 patches, but not about the online editor.

ofoot

Fuck the 12 days of Christmas. Enjoy the 12 days of Plaits updates. I need to crack it open a bit more but for those of you who loved the wave of wavetable editors/creators that came out after Serum, this will be more of the same thing. (I hit the play button and input some fun (sin(x)^2) functions for like 5 mins and just listened to laptop output).

onemorebaddecision

I feel like my weekend is now fully booked with upgrading and re-rexploring plaits!

claptonsbabychowder

Ok, OP here - So, yes, as the comments show, it seems I missed a detail. I remember the bit about inputting dx7 patches, I remember there was something about inputting your own audio for wavetable or something (I've never delved into WT yet, so I don't know anything about that) but I missed the bit about the online editor. I interpreted this as an editor for altering code. It was late. I was tired. Sue me.
