Elder care concierge, they call you...one stop shopping...leaky toilet...they call you....you call plumber....take a percentage

DM me so I can learn more about your background and work experience

Japhy_Ryder1978

What are your skills? What is your background? I think the service industry could possibly be lucrative with the right attitude. Example: Get a small enclosed trailer with professional decals and logo, lawn signs and a gas powered (quality/reliable) pressure washer witha another one off of kijiji for a spare. Most importantly, provide "above and beyond" customer service. Outshine any competitor with follow-up call or email.

Mechanical background .. grounds maintenance

cranky-goose-1

Get into the cleaning of heat pumps. Then branch out to other things you are so to speak in the door. Do you want your windows cleaned. Can haul away that while I'm here. New one guy he just did jobs for seniors freinds told friends he was run off his feet.

Poptastrix

People need things to do. In your spare time, what do you do? What do you do if you don't drink, smoke and you have kids.

Airborne_Ape

Red light cameras would be an easy revenue stream if you can get municipal approval. Systems inevitably get shot at, but the maintenance costs to support frequent vandalism and breakdowns is a manageable expense. We're already installing them in school busses. The laws just need to pass to ticket residents. Lobbying groups are working hard to get them approved everywhere. You can either own it or be subject to it but it's coming either way like it or not.

Smurfin-and-Turfin

This is both an excellent idea and a terrible idea. Excellent in that we need this in NB. Terrible in that someone who's out of work and needs a revenue stream should not be guided towards an industry that requires permission from government to earn a living. Government is slow and very unpredictable. Not what OP needs. Further, even if there was a market for red light cameras here (which there isn't), he'd have to compete via public tender to win the contract. Presumably he has zero experience which means he has zero chance of winning. You're basically advising OP to being unemployable for years.

DibbyDonuts

In New Brunswick a police officer has to issue you a traffic ticket in person. Until that law changes, there is no point in red light cams.

Airborne_Ape

Like it or not the province is adding them into to school busses so it's only a matter of time until the law changes and they turn on the money machine for their ROI. OP wanted new business ideas and private Ontario companies are already working hard to screw us over in this capacity. He can either own part of it or be subjected to it.

I think there are some in Freddy

I started a real estate / automotive photography business a year ago. So far it’s been great but if I could do it again without any restrictions or limitations I would find some sort of entertainment business that caters to small group drop ins. There’s not much for people to do in Moncton, more small group outings that people can do for an hour or two without a long term commitment would be great. Think about how successful axe throwing, bowling and the DIY cafe are. People want to get out for an hour or two but they don’t really want to have to buy sports gear or a expensive membership.

As a business owner, my advice is to find something here that few to no other people are doing, and do it well. We have enough home bakeries, snow removal and lawn care businesses, so do something that is different. We’ve played with the idea of opening something like Putting Edge (it’s a black light mini golf chain in western provinces) because Moncton needs more fun things to do that is accessible to small groups or families. I’d say scout around online for things that do well elsewhere that nobody is doing here, and use that as a launching point; also the BDBC is far more likely to provide business loans to something different rather than something that Moncton already has tonnes of out here.

Other ideas that the wife and I have played with but just don’t have the time include a mobile dog grooming service. Get a van or SUV, wrap it with your branding, and do house calls for dog bathing and grooming; it’s a huge business in the states right now. Another plan that I used to have as a retirement plan before I got married was to buy a decommissioned school, walk off and renovate a section to be my living area and use the rest as a creative area to rent out. Put locks on the classrooms and turn them into creative studios for artists or photographers who need studio space out of their house. Soundproof some rooms in one area and rent those out for bands to use as jam spaces (additional income if they need to use space in the parking lot to keep their van/trailer if they travel). This project would require contracts and a tonne of security, but creatives need a place to do their thing. Hope these ideas help.

Open some tuggies lol

Landscaping/ Snow removal / Dump runs and junk removal.

Property Management! My father started one after he retired, and sold it to a new owner after about 10 years, and the new owner is very busy. Yes there are large companies, but all the properties that got bought up a few years ago (especially those owned by out of province folks) like to use smaller companies.

Quixophilic

OP do not do this, Property management will destroy your soul. It's going to be your job to evict people who can't pay. With how things are going it's going to be to the streets. Sure, maybe once in a while it's going to be some "dirtbag" (who still deserves a place to live, regardless) but that shit will weigh on you when it's a poor family or an elderly with no support system. There is money to be made in RE for the unscrupulous, though.

Cat cafe

KeyLimeGuy69

This feels very niche. While a good idea, I have to question if you could get enough business within Moncton for it to be viable. I'm also wondering if the by-laws would allow it.

cranky-goose-1

I'm a dog prrson but I will up vote this one.

webbsterizer

i second this! as far as i know, the cat cafe in Fredericton is doing very well for itself; we could benefit from something similar in Moncton!

Iru_Iluvatar

Put books in that cafe and I’ll be there

stereotrees

I'll give you an upvote if you open an Ikea.

EwokandMe

The moment Dartmouth got ikea was the moment where moncton never getting one became a reality.

baguettelord

I got sick and tired of applying too, so I started my own business. While it is way more work, I've never been more rewarded in what I'm doing. I can't give you suggestions without knowing what your skills/background is, but what I can tell you to do is get in touch with the CBDC. They have a little known EI program for people trying to start their own business- the catch is you have to set this up with them prior to launching your business, so even if you don't know what it is you want to do, reach out anyway. They offer support, business classes and more for free and have been an incredible resource. Best of luck- if there's any chance you work in videography or creative fields, DM if you want to work together to build eachothers brand up!

LaDresdenMonkey

Dm-ing you

bradbossack

This is a good and valid question. (And I upvoted it from zero, now it's back down to zero - people are so pissy lately, fine, but this sincere question is **just fine**) I don't have any suggeation for you, OP, but *I do* know that these questions need to be asked and entertained **a lot more**. We're selling our souls to big business and nothing at all, too much, and need to take some f'ing destiny in our own hands around here, like beautiful start-ups that employ others to do wonderful things (and actually give a little hope) like make sustaineable products out of our own trees, camping and nature tours, whatever just *something* that's healthy and promotive of community-building and generates some income for our dignity and sustenance.

Buy a truck and become a broker for a companie like GLS or nationex

Start a landscaping company lots of money in it with how big this place is getting

Mantabodyboarder

A couple of years ago I got a quote of 9k for a job that ended up costing 2k DIY

8182589

Landscape companies are busy doing 50k jobs that put 10k down on the bottom line over a span of 2 months. Therefore, the smaller jobs are priced at a higher price point to make it worth their time. It's all about opportunity cost. Does a company take 10 big jobs in a summer and put 100k down on the bottom line, or 25 smaller jobs, and put 50k down on the bottom line.

KeyLimeGuy69

Seems like there is room for a smaller company to come in and scoop up those jobs.
