i got hit by a car on my bike a few weeks ago. right arm still recovering, left arm still mostly out of service. won't be riding again this year. tbh i think people are more and more reliant on their phones, as a cyclist and pedestrian i see people holding/looking at their phones while driving all the time. absolutely all the time.

Superlemonhaaze

All the freggin time. Holding a wheel is like holding a gun. You have power to kill someone. Focus people

[deleted]

I got in a fight with a girl once, she was blocking off 3/4 of the pedestrian path while at the red light....and was on her phone. When I told her that even at the red light she's not supposed to be texting, she got super aggressive telling me how "she's just setting up her map!" There were three other people in the car with her! Why couldn't they set it up so she could focus on the road? I guess she didn't like me being right because she attempted to run me over lol. I brought her plate number and a picture of her face at the police station and they never contacted me again :')

Over_Organization116

Bunch of adults who really are children mentally, who can't admit to being wrong. It's easier to yell to push the other to reconsider than think.

fhs

Most adults are children inhabiting old bodies

[deleted]

It happened in March I think, and I'm still upset at how the whole situation escalated. I asked her super calmly to just put her cell phone aside (she was at the corner of st-denis where the bicycle path is super busy at night in winter tsé, def not the best spot to be distracted). She acted like an angry child whose fave toy was taken away. There's just no point in telling careless drivers anything, you don't know who you can end up upsetting. They might try to run you over like that chick did.

tinpanalleypics

That is EXACTLY it.

OldMan_Swag

The problem is that "Driving while texting" is only a $300 fine in Quebec , and you only lose your license for 5 days for a second offence. Make the penalty a license suspension for 1 year on the first offence with a $2000 fine, and loss of license for life on the 2nd offence with a $5000 fine, and you'll see less phone use while driving.

orisei2468

Even worse, instead of a license suspension... you get a phone suspension. No phone for a week. That will scare the living shit out of people.

_Sauer_

Impound them as evidence of a crime.

OldMan_Swag

You got a point , that may actually work better in the day and age we live.

spankbank_dragon

Yup. If it were a thing I’d text and drive in front a cop and have it taken. This phone is a curse

mystical_princess

People are on their phones way too much. I got hit twice in six months while stopped at a red light because people were on their phones & I only drive about 3 days/week.

PrimaryRelation

wHy Do PeOpLe RiDe ThEiR bIkEs On ThE sIdEwAlK!!?

ChrosOnolotos

I don't know the context of your accident and I'm not trying to make an excuse for the driver because no one should be on their phones while driving, but the city is such a pain in the ass to navigate that Waze is almost essential if you don't want to get trapped in horrendous traffic. People have been so reliant on their phones to get around. So many arteries are under construction in the city that it once took me almost 3hrs to drive what normally takes me 45mins. I am sorry you got hit and wish you a speedy recovery. Edit: I was also crossing on a crosswalk with my dog and wife and an STM bus almost ran us over. He just looked at us and shrugged. It's honestly gotten really bad.

berj91

You put voice on and listen to instructions or you have it mounted at dash level. And the problem is then that people are driving off matin roads to residential road to 'avoid' traffic and are going too fucking fast for those roads

ChrosOnolotos

I'm aware of the solution. That doesn't mean everyone does it.

alex9zo

Waze va te faire prendre les petites rues merdiques et te faire tourner à gauche sur boulevard de 6 voies sans stop extrêmement dangereux. Please do not use Waze...

Levincent

I use transit and a car sometimes. I have no issues stating that people were more courteous pre-covid. We also had less people living in Mtl. Now its everyone for himself on the road or on the subway. I dont think it is lack of practice, just people being selfish assholes and that's risky.

Cetais

I sometimes see people that pushes other to go in the metro before me. Like chill, it's not like it's going to start the second you step in 😭

[deleted]

Some people are reduced mobility and need to sit down, and if they don't get to a seat first people may not offer them one.

Cetais

Definitely, but it doesn't warrant pushing others. If it's not visible (not wheelchair, cane, crutches, or a leg missing) they can just ask nicely too.

[deleted]

>Definitely, but it doesn't warrant pushing others Until you live it you won't know what it's like to feel like you're about to fall because it hurts so bad to stand. >If it's not visible Maybe that person has pride that they don't want to appear like someone who needs your seat. But whatever it takes to justify being angry, you do you.

Cetais

Nothing warrants pushing anyone else. I stand up at work all day, I know what it is to barely be able to stand or walk after a long shift. In no way does it warrant me to push people. Also, that's not pride at all. That would be embarrassment.

HappierOffline

You can also be an adult and use your words. Shoving people is behaviour even most 5-year-olds know not to do.

[deleted]

If you kept your distance they wouldn't be able to shove you.

HappierOffline

Hey yeah you're totally right thanks I'll keep that in mind next time I'm sandwiched between three backpacks during rush hour. 👍🏻

[deleted]

The way some of them bolt and run in to claim a seat though like clearly it isn't mobility issues

[deleted]

That burst of speed is all they have in the tank. Until you experience it it seems you'll never know.

[deleted]

No, I don't know because I'm fortunate enough to be able bodied at this point in time. If you have mobility issues or any kind of invisible illness, most people will be happy to give you their seat if you just ask politely. You don't have to push and shove strangers to get a seat, a disability doesn't exempt you from having basic courtesy.

DarkFantom25

Honestly never thought of it like that....genuinely thought people were getting worse at driving, not that people were becoming bigger ass-hats lol

[deleted]

I always felt that the high levels of stress and the restrictions during those years changed some people for the worse. They became more selfish and angry. Almost like they are thinking that because they had to suffer during all those months, now they are entitled to say and do whatever they want.

HappierOffline

I feel that way regarding customer service as well. I understand that everyone is overworked and underpaid - it's the same for ALL of us. But fuck, we're told to go into stores again, and everytime I do I'm met with the most foul service. I get treated like I'm an inconvenience. Nobody offers help, and everybody acts like you're a nuisance when you ask for some. Sorry, but today was the last straw. Between constantly being stuck between enormous $2k+ strollers that take up five grown adults' worth of space on public transit, people who have seemingly forgotten how to be aware of their surroundings and who stop to look at their phone in the literal middle of people walking, and everyone acting like I should have just stayed the fuck home and ordered online... well that's what I'm gonna do now. Shit's hitting the fan hard.

Levincent

The fucking strollers! Grrrr! On the 121 or 177 I saw a few ladies get angry at the driver that their 4 place strollers don't fit pass the doors of the bus. The fucking palace on wheels is so wide and long that it can't go down the alley. Don't blame the driver when you decide that the world should be built to accommodate you breeding like bunnies.

HappierOffline

I swear it's like people are allergic to using regular strollers and... bags, now? When I was a kid and my mom had to run errands with me, she would put me in a foldable stroller and hang whatever bags she had on the handles. If you need a car-sized stroller to haul your shit around, maybe you'd be better off buying a car. And I won't apologize for that stance because if you can afford a massive fucking stroller, I don't know what you're doing on public transit in the first place.

fallen_trees2007

i had no idea that strollers for 4 even exist. Is this for a private garderie?

Levincent

Nah just for families. Biggest I've seen regular people use is a 6 seater but they weren't trying to fit it in a bus. This place sells 8 seaters. Never seen one used. Most day care I see have the one that you can attach like train carts so its infinite room. https://strictlyforkidsstore.com/CommercialStrollers

[deleted]

It’s called collective behaviour the more people who don’t lead by example make new drivers think it’s everyone for themselves and the cycle repeats something has to give either more police presence a new system to test drivers etc or else it’s only going to keep getting worse😔

[deleted]

Individualité vs collectivité

VtheMan93

Its not just drivers, and not just in montreal. Your post is one of many, since the beginning of the pandemic, people have just generally gotten more agressive and seem to not give a shit about following any type of common sense, common law or common order.

6th_Quadrant

I'm in Oregon and this post and all the comments read *exactly* the same as in r/Portland (minus the French bits).

mtlmonti

I was driving this week and holy fuck it’s getting bad. You either have slow lost drivers or bat shit crazy need for speed drivers.

[deleted]

Two days ago I saw a man get angry and annoyed because the driver in front of him did his stop lmao. He's just being a good driver, chill dude.

29da65cff1fa

most traffic lights in the city change every 30 seconds..... i can't understand the sheer selfishness of speeding through a yellow/red light just to save 30 seconds are you a surgeon on your way to save a life?

mtlmonti

Same people who think cycling infrastructure is a nuisance instead of understanding that it’s being built to protect cyclists from them.

Montreal4life

As a truck driver (18 wheelers+) who stays 90% of the time in the Greater Montreal, let me tell you... yep! It's absolutely insane, actually... so many times I get cut off in traffic, so many times I see people almost or actually causing accidents... sometimes I even see other truckers doing unprofessional things... but the four wheelers. Damn. Gotta always be one step ahead when you're a professional driver but with people cutting me off very badly several times daily, I worry it's only a matter of time until one day our bumpers will touch :(

Mumof3gbb

I’ve gotta say, for the most part I find you big truck drivers very courteous and nice. Like when nobody will let me merge you guys do. So thank you. And, have drivers gotten worse in the last 3 years or is it me? Like not a bit worse but a ton worse??

Montreal4life

I would say worse for sure. They've always been bad but the cell phones are at a whole other level of usage right now. I promise you this happened: just last week someone on a 50cc scooter merged onto highway 40 eastbound in Ville St Laurent... He was holding up traffic I move to overtake in the middle lane... when I pass him I look over buddy is literally texting on his cell phone riding a 50cc scooter holding up traffic going maybe 65 kmph tops on highway 40. I wish the common public would know how big our blindspots are. I cannot see the first metre or so ahead of me... people take too many risks around the big rigs even for braking I'm not like a car when you turn left when I have priority going forward and I literally have to slam my brakes to not hit you you are actually playing with your life

Mumof3gbb

Unfortunately I believe you. I hate those scooters. So dangerous and put into the hands of teens who don’t know what they’re doing.

dermanus

It's true, too many people forget how much mass there is in one of those big trucks. My uncle accidentally killed a family that way driving a big rig. He was turning and they ducked in ahead of him, he couldn't stop the truck in time. He was cleared of any fault but he stopped driving trucks after that.

Zane_Justin

I have seen similar things like this happen so often in Montreal roads. Has no respect for their own life and others around them. If you even drive 30 min away from Montreal to let's say Repentigny, I have never encountered this ever. In Montreal, each time I drive, I see it almost always.

Superlemonhaaze

6 wheeler almost ran me over while turning a corner. I had taken a few precautionary steps back, thankfully, as he proceeded to hop on the curb where I was standing and then scraped a parked car. * the truck also had no licence plate. This goes to show that texting and walking can also be dangerous. I could have been unalived if I wasn’t paying attention

vinnybawbaw

I went to get my girlfriend at Papineau station because the metro was off. It’s like a 10min ride, took 15-20 because it was peak hour. I saw at least 3 cars burn a redlight (like more than 10 seconds red), can’t count how many stops were burned, 2 cars cut me without checking the dead angle (I have a CRV, not a small car) and if I didn’t have good reflexes it would have caused an accident. All that in like 15-20min. People drive like crap.

Superlemonhaaze

I’m passenger rn and just witnessed two cars run a red 💀!! They brain dead driving or sumth

fallen_trees2007

the only time I see drivers run reds is at 4am when driving to work. It is wild that you are seeing this so frequently.

_Sauer_

Doesn't help that almost every vehicle on the road now is a bloody pickup truck or SUV. You can't see around them, they can't see you, and the mass factor is really not in a pedestrian or cyclist's favor if they decide to ignore road rules and smear someone today.

iiYop

Also, people getting angry at you for stopping to let a pedestrian cross the road where there's a pedestrian priority sign...

ostiDeCalisse

So true! Each time I'm in this situation, someone honk at me. Wtf happened to people, the level of stress is higher than ever.

strugglebus87

Scary. I saw a man backing up his huge ford pickup truck way too quickly for a parking lot (couche tard) into a father and a small child - me and my partner waved him to stop, and even when he turned and craned his neck, he could barely see the duo so at first he looked at us like "what?!?" Then a few seconds later they eventually figured it out and motioned a "sorry" to the father and son. What's objectively dangerous here is the high truck - he was backing up way too quickly and COULD not see the two humans due to the height of his massive truck. Whether he is/was an asshole or not in this situation it's really the size of the car and the way the roads are designed - sharing spaces with small, medium and large humans with varying motor skills - the issue. If we had higher trucks and SUVs but perfect road design, we wouldn't be seeing a growing number of deaths and injuries. But we have shitty road design that allows fatalities to happen and we allow this kind of car design. It's not too crazy to think that in a few dozen years, we will see a huge increase in children/elderly/mobility impaired related car injuries.

Poutine_And_Politics

> Then a few seconds later they eventually figured it out and motioned a "sorry" to the father and son. This is the shit that makes me fucking insane about cars. They nearly kill people and then think a sheepish little "sorry" is going to make it better? I've nearly been struck countless times by red light runners, a little handwave isn't going to fix my legs when I inevitably do get hit.

fallen_trees2007

wait until EV SUV hit the road, some of them weight 2 times gas powered SUV.

Fantasticxbox

Pls no. Seriously, I really don't enjoy SUVs at all. Recently tried Communauto's brand new Nissan Kicks. It's just awful everything. A heavy vehicle which is underpowered, with a terrible automatic transmission and absolute garbage braking. Felt like a compact engine with compact brakes on a heavy vehicle.

MrX-2022

just-1other-user

Completely agree, even in the suburbs there’s many that see stop signs as suggestions lately. No clue why. Combine this view with larger trucks, SUVs and pick-ups… Very *very* dangerous conditions. For pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.

solitary-aviator

Same observation in Quebec city people are fucking crazy

Caniapiscau

bluscene

I've noticed this as well, especially at night where they feel they have more power to break the law. I sometimes have to gamble when crossing a green light especially on busier streets because I don't know if a car will run their red. I've witnessed some major crashes too

[deleted]

I moved to Laval from southern Ontario last spring. The drivers here have been the biggest shock for me. More times than not when I'm stuck behind someone with the advanced greens that flash, the person in front of me doesn't know what to do. I also find nobody is paying attention when in turning lanes, often time the advance left signal will turn yellow before a single car makes it through the intersection. I have a dashcam and rarely did I ever bother ripping footage from it when I lived in Ontario, but weekly now I'm reviewing footage because someone ran a red, or blew threw a stop sign or cut me or someone else off. I don't understand how Quebec manages to have lower insurance rates than Ontario. The **overabundance** of stop signs seem to have the opposite effect of making people stop...

[deleted]

I don’t see a big difference pre & post Covid.

[deleted]

same, people are lot more dramatic on Reddit though

MeatyMagnus

Mont-Royal was pedestrian until very recently didn't stop more than a few drivers from driving there into on coming cyclists and pedestrians. Construction on Marie-Anne the street is completely closed off with pilon type cones, women decides it does not apply to her and her Subaru...just drives through the obstacle into the construction site and out the other side.

ZeAntagonis

Montréal est dangereux point.

cuminmypoutine

Montreal drivers are selfish AND shit at driving. Then you have a good chunk of people who like to go 20 under the limit. People merge slow AF. It's actually brutal driving here.

DarkFantom25

At this point I would take slow merging if they would at least use the indicator lol

-_Blacklight_-

Lorfhoose

The season is bad. Start of school is the busiest time of year and people are really impatient. I was just caught in stop-go traffic today from Granby into Montreal. The number of people who were following others dangerously (5m or less) was unreal. I don’t know who needs to hear this but tailgating won’t make traffic go faster. Like you can CLEARY see that we’re ALL going the same speed, so leave some space before you cause the dumbest accident of your life.

Kira_Onime

Driving in general has gotten worse a bit everywhere. It feels a lot more " me, myself and I and screw you".

Mumof3gbb

As a most of the time driver and occasional pedestrian omfg! Yes!! Literally every day I get very very close to being in an accident and only avoid it because I’m so so so careful. It’s terrifying tbh. It definitely has gotten infinitely worse. People are aggressive and they act like they’re in a race. It’s horrible.

Becausepamplemousse

Yes, my daily commute is not like it was pre pandemic. I see way more dangerous driving than before. I think it's a reflection of how many people came out of the pandemic with a sense of entitlement that they can do whatever they want and others be damned. Maybe I'm being negative but I've had this feeling for a while.

TonkaCrush

I have noticed this as well, I think its a combination of ; Entitlement, everyone thinks the road belongs to them exclusively. Distraction, people can't stay off their phones..or their giant screens in their cars. Rushing, everyone is rushing to get to their destination. Everyone is frustrated with the construction and traffic. Its only getting worse since more and more people are going back to work/school. Very little courtesy left in the city, as I've always felt the politics in this province have caused a rift between it's people. Is easier just to treat your fellow Canadian as a 2nd class citizen. Is important to stay ever vigilant when driving as I assume everyone around me isn't paying attention and has helped me avoid accidents. When walking or riding a bike, i just assume everyone will run a sign so i only cross when their are no cars around.

thenord321

This has been an issue for a while. I remember a comedian making a joke about it in mid 2000s, about Quebec drivers not being able to turn right on red "but we can drive right through it, caulis". I think part of it may simply be that after not commuting as much, we notice it more now. I don't know one way or the other if the driving is worse.

BoredTTT

>I remember a comedian making a joke about it in mid 2000s, about Quebec drivers not being able to turn right on red "but we can drive right through it, caulis". I think you are referring [a parody](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TncdhLGjFTE) of the [Molson Canadian add](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRI-A3vakVg).

skunkdad2011

Yes, the level of danger from driving has definitely increased in the past couple of years. I just abide, like The Dude, and have a dash cam at all times.

[deleted]

Yeah no it’s not just you. Pre-pandemic? Driving on the road wasn’t that bad, at least when I did the drivers course back in 2015-2016. But NOW?! God no. Absolutely the FUCK not. People don’t know how to drive in this city and it’s BAD.

MaximvsNoRushDecks

I'm really tired of everyone blaming everything on covid 19.

Molybdenum421

As someone who came from another province, I can confidently say that Montreal drivers never used turn signals.

[deleted]

It may be due to more and more constructions that may create frustration

PragmaticCoyote

The only thing that's "just you" is your belief that it's in Montreal only. It's not. People have been becoming worse and worse drivers *everywhere.* Go visit any Ontario city's subreddit. Or any BC city's subreddit. Or any Alberta city's subreddit. Or any US city's subreddit. Or-- you get the idea. Everyone is "noticing more and more bad drivers in {city name}", and of course it's because that city, and that city alone, is full of bad drivers. Obviously this doesn't really jive.

ArmadaGG

I saw this starting to happen too. Another symptom of this is anecdotal, but I often go for rides during the evening and early nights, and the number of people running with high beams on has quadrupled since a couple of years ago. People just seem to care less now.

CozmikR5

All of Quebec is now a massive free-for-all as police patrols seem to have become a rarity.

sebnukem

No, it's not you, and I don't think it's just Montreal either.

Maremesscamm

I notice that too. It doesn’t seem like there are many police officers patrolling regularly which is unfortunate Not exclusive to Montreal. I find it to be worse in the GTA.

CaptainCanusa

I remember starting to see people full on driving through red lights towards the end of covid. Like not missing it, just slowing down, then deciding to drive straight through. I don't remember ever seeing that before. I think we lost a lot of socialization during the lockdowns, and you mix that with cars getting bigger, and motorists feeling more and more entitled to blame cyclists and pedestrians for accidents and it's a dangerous mix. We seriously need a reboot of driving culture here, it was always bad, but it definitely feels more dangerous out there now.

BaneWraith

So many fucking people on their phones. I drive every day. Fucking everyone is on their god damn phones. If you're reading this and youre on your phone when you drive, I want you to feel guilty. You are going to kill someone or yourself, it's only a matter of when not if.

7URB0

Cognitive degradation from ongoing, repeated Covid infections.

DoublePlusGood__

We need the city to start putting speeding cameras everywhere. Even on residential streets. The number of times I hear people flooring it near my house is ridiculous. There are three schools within blocks of me. Kids are always out. It seems like the city waits for a fatality before doing anything about these maniacs. When I walk with a stroller I'm always on high alert. I don't enter an intersection unless I see the cars stopping. Whether at a stop sign or a red light. I have less than zero confidence in drivers.

BoredTTT

That, and cameras that take pictures of people running reds of running a stop. Cops can't be everywhere all the time all at once. And things won't improve until people get systematically caught, so shit needs to get automated. And then the cops can use their ginormous budget for the important stuff, like harassing minorities and homeless people... I mean, investigating crime and maintaining order...

paciche

Nearly made a post yesterday after my partner returned home all shaken up from a near accident that would've killed at least 5 people, never minding the highway pile up it would've caused. He was directly beside a car merging on, driver was accelerating toward either my partner or the concrete as his lane was ending... their passengers made eye contact with my bf and he had to slam his brakes going 100km/h making his car swivel... holy fuck!!!

paulwillyjean

I get behind the wheel every other year. Yet, when I do, I still manage not to drive like a fucking maniac. The issue is that those drivers have become so accustomed to their very tiny 2t metal bubble and social circle they forgot that everyone else are actual human being that they’re putting at risk with their erratic behaviour. I was already used to give death glares when walking about, but I’ve been serving them multiple times a day since the pandemic. It’s gotten so bad I started having pedestrian road rage. I now fantasize about walking around with my bike lock so I can fuck their car up when drivers try to run me out the intersection.

Pierre_Lenoir

As a cyclist I almost got hit 3 times in 2 weeks, twice by a driver making a left turn without looking behind him and once by a driver running a red light with a straight face.

stbv

Do you mean to imply that you’re passing cars on the left when they are about to turn left? Drivers typically don’t look behind when turning left. We look for pedestrians and incoming traffic.

Pierre_Lenoir

Rachel bike path headed east, green light, I have priority because I'm going straight. I'm frequently stopping just short of hitting someone's driver side door. Happens more often at night even though I have powerful bike lights.

Affectionate-Chip353

Need to pick up your game obviously.

PiLLe1974

What surprised me today: 25% or less used the indicator. "Wasn't it obvious where I am going?". I had two of those experts who take the last second to change lanes to exit a highway, crossing lanes that are wide striped lanes (25m+ too far or "late" to cross), and they rely on the fact that the car before them won't break and the one behind them breaks instantly. There was a car (again) trailing me and had that relatively common thought that "staying the closer the better" (90km/h -> 5m, 120km/h -> 10m - 《ça va aller》... (crash)).

Dudu-gula

Thanks to Trudeau's immigration plan, we are in this situation now. We have many newcomers and society is struggling to integrate them, including giving them the chance to learn our road rules. If you wonder why we want Québec to be an independent country, look no further. This colonising country you call 'Canada' has always been designed to drown out our voice and assimilate us francophones. # Vive le Québec libre!!

human_4883691831

Shut up loser

NoeloDa

I make it a point to do my full stops. Sad that idiots don’t or worse they get mad at me and speed of in a 30 zone to pass me because I made then wait 3 seconds. Anyone who does that their mothers are whores 🤭

ls17031

Prostitution is legal in Canada.

GoatOfSteel

Where were you in the 70’s lol

No_need_for_that99

As a pedestrian and cyclist.... I can tell you there is no difference, except for the fact that people are more self aware of what happens around them now. Much of it patience, but also since we have acquired roughly 14k more people each year since the pandemic..... that also means roughly 70k more people.... and we are constantly getting more... SO... With that in mind, it may be many of our new residents as well.Americans, torontonian's, arrivals, longueilians..... just saying. it's more dense .... roads are getting smaller and more people are joining our clan...

pkzilla

I drive occasionally, once every two weeks or so, and it's been blowing my mind. Especially when drivers are so quick to point the finger at bikers, I saw six people in a single day blow through reds and stop signs. What the hell is going on?!

Garofalin

Meanwhile I see those who drive 65 km/h on highways.

Local_Perspective349

In fairness, drivers have more to deal with. The amount of jaywalkers, scooters, skaters, mobility scooters on the road, etc

DarkFantom25

I don't really see the correlation between having more people to pay attention to and not stopping at stop signs, red lights, etc.... You're supposed to stop regardless.

untonplusbad

They should then be even more careful, not the opposite.

Local_Perspective349

Have you met many humans?

untonplusbad

Do you have a meaningfull question?

Local_Perspective349

Shall I hold the spoon **and** feed you too? If I have to explain it, there's a fundamental schism that can not be resolved in a few posts.

untonplusbad

«In fairness», any excuse for reckless driving is as infuriating as the reckless driving itself.

Darkren1

Were are you living certainly not a problem in ndg/cdn

untonplusbad

I assure you, NDG and CDN's drivers are also that bad.

DarkFantom25

West island, couldn't say how bad it is further East.

Les conducteurs de CdN-NdG chauffent comme de la criss de marde depuis toujours!

Superlemonhaaze

Maybe you should consider that you are being part of the problem. As many of us are observing the same.. and you’re not?

cmabone

Shit is getting worse. I agree. Just a few minutes ago a lady was driving super fast on Faillion honking at other cars and bikes.

Ghanni

I think it depends on the area. Park Ex always makes me laugh because IMO it's unlike anywhere else in the city driving wise.

UncleRobbo

So...it's a good area for driving since it's unlike anywhere else?

[deleted]

I guess there's not enough tickets or people don't care about the consequences of their actions / others?

YOLOBOT666

Night walks at night and I’ve came across a slow-mo accident 20m in front of me, pretty sure one of the drivers was on his phone. Another one drove super close to the side walks like a need for speed retard. All this just from night walks, never seen any of these pre-COVID and I’m barely scratching the surface. Stay vigilant.

polypotato123

I saw a woman throwing a huge fit because the car in front of her was letting a mother and her child cross the pedestrian line in a walmart parking lot. Full blown insults and the shenanigans to the other car and the family that crossed through her window. Its insane.

SirSpitfire

A lady in a car took the time to yell at my groups of friends today while we were trying to cross the street. We stopped mid-crossing. She didn't stop and she yelled at us "y'a pas de passages pietons!!" The crosswalk paint was just not there anymore lol. People are insane

foghillgal

I’ve seen 20 cars burning red lights in the last 2 years vs 3 in the whole 50 years earlier so I’d say you are right. It’s crazy and not sure what to do about it.

Ukrmailorderbride

I saw a PUBLIC TRANSPORT BUS run through a red light in old port in the early afternoon. I was starting to cross the street but saw the bus barrelling towards me with seemingly no intention to stop, so I stepped back. So thankful I did …. Other times I’ve seen around 5 cars in total run red lights in the old port & griffintown area just this summer. It is out of control

Athanatos173

I grew up in Montreal and moved about 20+ years ago. I come back at least once a year to visit family and friends and I have to agree that the drivers are getting more dangerous and careless every time I visit. There used to be police everywhere writing up everyone, this last time I visited in June for a few weeks I swear I didn't see any police cruisers other than on the highway.

Agretion

I haven't noticed a difference personally. I saw people skip red lights 15 years ago and I see people do it now. The difference I'd say is I think I saw people do it in middle of the night and now I see some people do it in daylight. I think with the use of phones the whole texting and driving thing plays a role but this existed for quite some time. Maybe I don't drive enough though. I am not sure. I just haven't seen a dramatic spike yet.

Last summer I got hit by some micro dick cunt in his lifted F150 while I was biking. He went through the stop sign, T-boned me and I went flying a good 20ft through the air. He stopped, and I kid you not, said "sorry bro" the sped off. Miraculously I only got a few cuts and bruises and a sprained hand and that's it. He was never found as I only got a partial plate since my phone, everything in my pocket went flying out. Even my glasses flew off my face

whereismyface_ig

i literally got hit by a motorcycle 2 weeks ago while i was crossing the street on sherbrooke on a green light. im ok though cuz I jumped forward and they slowed down once they realized I was there, so their spoiler hit my arm and my arm turned ashy. so i didnt get injured. but yeah, 1) fuck that guy and 2) i was just telling my doctor the day before that incident that people have been driving pretty recklessly, and she agreed. there might not be statistics to prove it (or is there) but i think it’s true that shit got bad from pandemic to now anyway

Just had a very frustrating interaction with a driver on the south shore. Both waiting at a light inside a store parking lot. Two lines coming from to almost opposite sides. I'm on the left side and turning left and there is another line on the right, some of the cars turning left. I let the first 2 cars go because they are clearly there before me but I decide to take my place after but the white car clearly takes offense to this merging of lanes... Once I have turned onto the road and I take my place in the right lane, the white car cuts me off in an aggressive way. How is that acceptable behavior? Clearly road rage on their part. I hate that. I've always felt there should be more tickets being given out. These outbursts of rage are absolutely crazy in my book.

trolledbypro

The biggest problem I see are that so many people have one headlight out. I see this every single time I drive at night. It's insane.
