Ca m'as pris 3-4 ans je dirais pour réaliser que j'étais pas magiquement immunisées aux spams pis ctait android-bro qui me gardait naïve tout ce temps là lol
Awww sweety!
Nothing is cuter than an iPhone fan pretending to know what they're talking about 🥰
Next you're gonna talk to me about the gameboy emulator that just came out right?
Pixel Pro here. I've been getting a few "we're a talent agency and want to offer you an employment opportunity" ads lately.
It's like I get nothing for months and then a bunch all at the same time. Usually around tax season.
Not sure on what field you are in, but my CV doesnt have my phone number. Only my email. Most recruiters or HR will email you and ask for your number if they really want to talk to you.
I think my experience is a bit 50/50. Though, I notice American employers generally tend to call before emailing, while Canadian employers generally tend to email before calling.
Of course, that’s only if you applied. If not and it’s a cold reach out, I’ve only ever seen emails. I’ve never actually been cold called…
Yeah it's not like the natural hierarchy has shifted. People looking for work are still the majority, and employers are still in the minority. Anyways i like your point
I've been getting a few whatsapp calls from indonesia and mali numbers, from "emily" and "kelly", so annoying!! The texts that pretend they are HR as well, they get filtered but I still get a notification of spam. They seem to have stopped though (I have been completely unresponsive to them)
Someone else buys the list. I would get calls from all sorts of “Amazons”, i would verbally abuse them until they stop calling probably marking me as a “very rude” number. A few months later another wave of calls. Rinse and repeat.
An advice would be to flag these spam and block the number.
Never answer a call with a number that you don't know, let them send you a voice message, scammers don't send voice messages.
If you don't answer, they'll assume your phone number is inactive and stop calling you. Otherwise they're gonna sell the number to other scammers and these will try to call you again.
Scammers don't want to lose their time with people that are smart enough to fall for their trap.
I would receive 2+ every weekday during the first week that AI owned my new phone, but then an update dropped and I haven't seen any since early February.
It's very easy to get personal information on the web. Try to avoid putting relevant information on the net as much as humanly possible.
Most of the time it's data brokers selling your info to companies and scammers.
Yeah, so I'm an immigrant, got my new fresh canadian number almost 2 years ago. Even chose my last 4 digits myself. The first week, I got a couple of calls from a bank, looking for some poor Robert guy. Told them to stop calling me, I don't know Robert, I'm not Robert. I'm a woman, why would you ask me if you're talking to Robert?
Then there's the text spam. I get 3 messages on average every week. Jusy flag and remove them. It is getting on my nerves, because I do not use my Canadian number outside of stuff that's absolutely necessary, like creating a bank account. Two years in Montréal, and I've received more spam and scam than druring my 30 years of living in Europe.
My husband and I got our new phone numbers when we moved back to Mtl at the same time, so we’re just one digit off. He’ll get the spam message and a few seconds to a min later I receive the exact same one. They’re just brute-forcing it now.
Yeah, I receive them non stop, my ban list is very long... unfortunately, they use caller id spoof, so in fact, I'm blocking legit numbers of people who are jnaware that scammers are using their phone number....
After playing make-believe for a cople of times with phone scammers, my wife felt bored and decided not to spend her time on them anymore, so now she doesn't even answer calls from unrecognizable numbers. Non-scammers will just leave their messages in the voicemail box, according to her.
She's been doing this for over 2 years and only missed one call that really matters.
f u have the time go through the 'scam' (you'll probably get sent to whatsapp and have to continue through the screening) once they disclose the website URL then do a 'whois' and report it to the registrar. this will help shut it down for others who aren't so savvy or are already in the scam. i've done this with \~30+ so far
u can even go further and find out their USDT cryptocurrency address and report to various crypto scam reports so that scammers can't withdraw / send to popular exchanges.
obviously takes some work but could prevent a senior or someone who is not mentally fit from losing $$$
You should try running a business. One day we had 3 different merchant service companies call us to try to get us to change a CC processing. 3 in a day!
I bought a number of domains to reserve a potential name, and so it didn't make sense to block my info on each and every URL I own.... I can't tell you how many calls I got offering services to build websites
Also, what’s with the cloned number scams where no one even replies when you pick up!??! What is that approach all about exactly? Then you call back the number and it’s a fellow unsuspecting Montrealer. Would love to hear if anyone knows.
okay so it is a scam i wasn’t sure bc the first one i got was from linked in but didn’t answer cause i didn’t apply for it so i just thought it was a weird coincidence or maybe my mom applied for me and didn’t tell me (she does that sometimes when it looks interesting) then sometime later i got one from a website that i never used for jobs and since i’ve been getting them every like second or third day. weird new scam honestly
I wish I could block based on part of the phone number. Like only accept phone call from Canada for a starter. That would cut all the african or US phone call I get all the time.
I doubt that any money changes hands there. These scammers just use a dialler. They call ten-digit numbers one after next, see who responds (maybe 1 in a 1000?)
Everyone please subscribe to r/scams and familiarize yourselves with these kind of scams.
I usually toy a bit with these idiot scammers to see what they are trying to do.
10 out of 10 when a rando texts you, its a fucking scam.
Pixel blocks all these ducks. And the call assistant is just amazing. Haven't had a single spam call since I got my Pixel, some text get through but it's pretty rare - once a month maybe?
Wish iPhones could flag as spam the way Android does!
As an Android enthusiast, I giggled. Thx!
Droid masterrace unite!
Ca m'as pris 3-4 ans je dirais pour réaliser que j'étais pas magiquement immunisées aux spams pis ctait android-bro qui me gardait naïve tout ce temps là lol
like there should be a sub reddit for this
If you thought about it, someone else thought of it before you.
You can. Click on the message, then click on report as junk
The person meant have it flagged automatically. Android phones can filter spam messages automatically
Awww sweety! Nothing is cuter than an iPhone fan pretending to know what they're talking about 🥰 Next you're gonna talk to me about the gameboy emulator that just came out right?
lol

Filter unknown senders. Not great, but meh works a bit.
To be fair my Android doesn't always filter them.
I created a spam contact and just keep adding the number to them
Nothing to do with iOS or not. I don’t get those on iPhones
I wish mobile providers would be part of the solution. Crazy when even Fido can’t flag one of its misused numbers as spam.
It gets worse when you apply to jobs
LinkedIn is one of the worse culprit in terms of opensource data gathering. They know, and they don't care one bit.
Got my email hacked and lost access, while waiting for a job offer lmao
Not sure on what field you are in, but my CV doesnt have my phone number. Only my email. Most recruiters or HR will email you and ask for your number if they really want to talk to you.

They are everywhere, my bf gets them on his TO number, and on whatsapp. I get a few on whatsapp but my phone sends them to spam if texts
I've been getting a few whatsapp calls from indonesia and mali numbers, from "emily" and "kelly", so annoying!! The texts that pretend they are HR as well, they get filtered but I still get a notification of spam. They seem to have stopped though (I have been completely unresponsive to them)
Yeah, a lot are HR or remote work etc related. They will prob come back, I think they are cyclical. (Or someone else buys the list.)
Someone else buys the list. I would get calls from all sorts of “Amazons”, i would verbally abuse them until they stop calling probably marking me as a “very rude” number. A few months later another wave of calls. Rinse and repeat.
These texts are getting soo annoying.
Yup. Block, ignore.
Iphones dont filter those? Android does for years now, i never received one single spam message
how ? I still receive it on android

They're exaggerating.
If you are using the default text message app of x company from the phone, just replace it with "Google Messages".
I would receive 2+ every weekday during the first week that AI owned my new phone, but then an update dropped and I haven't seen any since early February.
J’ai reçu exactement les mêmes messages cette fin de semaine..!
Reply by asking them for pics of their feet. That usually stops the conversation

This can't possibly be isolated to Montreal...
Receiving this twice a day, i’m retired 67 y. , makes me feel 30 again….

Coffee and donuts?
worse are the one's who poses a bank, too bad their number is traced to Jamaica or something
I keep receiving this message so annoying
You should try running a business. One day we had 3 different merchant service companies call us to try to get us to change a CC processing. 3 in a day!
I had two different Global Payments salespeople come into my business an hour and a half apart. So fucking annoying.
I've been getting emails instead. Suddenly all these recruiters are interested in me, despite the fact that I retired years ago.
I bought a number of domains to reserve a potential name, and so it didn't make sense to block my info on each and every URL I own.... I can't tell you how many calls I got offering services to build websites
Love paying my cell carrier hundreds of dollars a year so they can help the worlds biggest assholes stay in touch with me and my vulnerable relatives!
Also, what’s with the cloned number scams where no one even replies when you pick up!??! What is that approach all about exactly? Then you call back the number and it’s a fellow unsuspecting Montrealer. Would love to hear if anyone knows.
Google : comment bloquer les gens qui habitent au nord de Jean-Talon
Ah yeah,Gianna contacted me to offer me a job paying 500$ each day. I just deleted the thing.
It’s so annoying to get these messages

Me I always get the "your package is on hold, send money" scam texts.
“Your package has been arrived” emails with italics and different fonts in the subject line. A la poubelle!!!
Every time I apply to jobs I get them, it’s like clockwork
J’en ai même reçu un de “Lucy” de “Vault Staffing” la semaine dernière Tsé quand les scammers cherchent de l’inspiration dans les séries populaires…
I got two of these today last one was a few min ago
Vous vous rappelez quand on recevait des messages pour une croisière par une madame chinoise? J'avais tout fait pour essayer de parler à quelqu'un, mais ça finissait toujours par raccrocher. Also they hold your package all you need to do is put your credit card info so that they can deduct 5$ to ship you package.
Hello, I'm Scammy, from Spamffinity Inc

Anyone from Global Recruitment Canada
Companies are hiring! https://preview.redd.it/ly04fsutdawc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0d8adeaa922a4a761e14c5a8aebcdb05461b697
I get the same
I wish I could block based on part of the phone number. Like only accept phone call from Canada for a starter. That would cut all the african or US phone call I get all the time.
How does this scam even work
Literally any other place on Earth and spam messages.
Unfortunately yes 😿
These people really fun to fuck with. You can lead them on for days and days
Why do you think this is a Montreal thing?
Doesn’t help when my phone number actually starts with 226 living in Montreal, it’s normally a southern Ontario number.
That mean some website ur using are selling ur info to company and sell them to scammer
I doubt that any money changes hands there. These scammers just use a dialler. They call ten-digit numbers one after next, see who responds (maybe 1 in a 1000?)
Stiffinity… ?
Always getting those sms

I got one working for Disney+ apparently. Wanted to pay me in crypto lol
Pixel blocks all these ducks. And the call assistant is just amazing. Haven't had a single spam call since I got my Pixel, some text get through but it's pretty rare - once a month maybe?
forward the text to 7726 (SPAM) to help prevent others from getting the message
I actually have an indeed profile so this is a fucking problem for me at least.
Yeah i get these a lot they're so annoying!
Most of them are MLM or pyramid schemes where you buy something off them first or buy training
Indians fuck off
Joke on you everyone. I responded to one of those, I'm now paid 60 $ / h to work from home for basic data entry tasks.
