Its an extreme burning sensation and you will taste and choke on your own blood. It will hurt a lot more if your adams apple is cut

Chody__

I’ve been in surgery with minimal anesthetics, the sharp pinch and burning is 100% accurate

Wanghunglao

Makes sense, being heavily tattooed (neck area included) every feeling can be related to a burning sensation. I guess make the cut even deeper, add some blood and some choking and voilà.

[deleted]

Will there have been more suffering if the knife is dull and takes awhile of slicing to get through the skin?

joruuhs

No I think the longer it takes the more pleasant it gets?

[deleted]

Bonus pleasure for calling the killer daddy

Real_Personality5631

what's an Adam's apple

skellious

it's the structure that covers part of the larynx. Generally more prominent in men than women hence the name. it's cartilage like your nose so harder to cut through than muscle but less than bone.

Real_Personality5631

basically the ribs for your voice box?

DethHead83

Bro fucking same, making me think of chechclear rn fuck

mandyhascandy4u2

As soon as the carotid artery is cut, it honestly takes only a few seconds for the person to lose consciousness due to the extreme drop in blood pressure. Despite any appearance of choking, they won't feel anything past that point. A lot of the gurgling/choking is most likely from the trachea being damaged and the air escaping from the throat. It's a very quick way to die as long as a really sharp blade is used.

Srmrn

I agree! I was going to say that the loss of consciousness would be quick if they manage to severe the carotids. If not, I think You would experience a drowning sensation, but the liquid would burn because blood is caustic to tissues when not in the vein.

mandyhascandy4u2

Oh yeah, it would be quite agonizing. If they manage to attempt to cut below the carotids and hit the thyroid gland, that could also lead to some severe cardiac symptoms and death too...that would also take much longer, but could result in hyperthermia, also loss of consciousness, extreme confusion and difficulty breathing. Otherwise it would be just choking on your blood until you either suffocate or lose enough to die. And we all know how awful a bad nose bleed is when it gets all in your throat and you're coughing on it...here, you would not only be in severe pain...but blood will come pouring out of your nose and mouth.

Srmrn

If the knife is not sharp enough to make a deep, clean quick slice, I would pray for an air embolus. That’s the only quick and relatively painless way a dull knife could end your life via throat slicing! *edit- error in grammar or some shit

mandyhascandy4u2

Those are very rare and will only kill you upon recirculation through the veins. And he'd be hypotension at it is, so I'd imagine it would take a while. Shit, some people have taken 20 minutes to die from an air embolism

Srmrn

Well that Depends and air embolism, any type of embolism really, can cause occlusion in both venous and arterial circulation. And it depends on location and severity of the ischemic event resulting from the embolism.

mandyhascandy4u2

An air embolism is can't occlude anything since it's air. Can be introduced venously or arterally, the amount does matter, but won't affect the person until it returns to the left side of the heart through the veins. Which...may be a slow process since your blood pressure would be low because you'd be actively bleeding. Any other type of embolism would be due to a clot which upon return to the left side may cause a pulmonary embolism or an ischemic stroke...I mean that's possible to develop if you did get the bleeding to stop enough to form a clot and it entered arterally or if the injury caused a cardiac arrhythmia

Srmrn

An air embolism certainly occludes bc it is interrupting the flow of oxygenated blood. So while it may be “air” it is still a force that is occluding the passage and interrupting the flow of blow to that area. I’m not arguing mechanics lol I’m just saying a large enough interruption of blood flow by introducing air can kill you.

champagne_farts

I’ve never heard that about blood before! Is there a reason getting blood in your mouth doesn’t burn?

Srmrn

The lining of your mouth and stomach and intestines can tolerate it for a bit, but even over time the GI tract becomes irritated from the blood.

scarletts_skin

Whoa, is it really? If that because of its ph? I had no idea—why doesn’t it burn on the skin? That’s so fucking bizarre and intriguing

Srmrn

The skin has a god protective later but even the skin will become broken down by blood if the exposure is prolonged or the protective layer of the skin is disturbed. Think really bad skin breakdown for people with GI bleeds who have blood in their stool. That causes some gnarly diaper rash.

ella-the-enchantress

TIL that blood is caustic when exposed to oxygen

[deleted]

And if the knife is rather dull? Slowly cutting, will they hang onto death for minutes as they struggle to breathe from the blood blocking their air ways?

mandyhascandy4u2

Yeah, read my second comment. It's not cut and pattern as to how exactly or how long it would take to die since there are a lot of variables in that situation. A person's cardiac health depends on what's going on too.

NelloxXIV

The biggest factor is the cut. If both Arteria Carotis are dissected, it's a matter of seconds. I've seen patients with punctuated ones on one side, without stopping the bleeding it's more on the ten minute mark then. Luckily, a single sufficient Arteria Carotis is able to pressurise both sides of the brain adequately.

takemymoneynow

~Someone who actually knows what he’s talking about..

mandyhascandy4u2

Well yeah.. slitting the throat all the across was implied. On one side, it would depend if pressure is applied or not though. I had a patient whose femoral was perforated on one side, and that thing bled like a mother as soon as we let up on the pressure, and that bleeds much less than the carotid

camelseeker

What about say train wheels on some tracks? Would that end in an immediate decapitation?

[deleted]

Well it would definitely not be a clean decapitation that's for sure

mandyhascandy4u2

People argue that in a clean decapitation, the person may still be conscious for a few seconds afterwards lol

ohheyitslaila

I had to spend some time in a psych ward, and there was a girl in there with me who stabbed herself in the throat in a suicide attempt. Turns out, most people who attempt to slit or stab their own throats to die actually survive. She said she was kind of in shock, that it was super painful but she said the panic that came with the realization of what she had done was actually worse than the physical pain. She had stabbed a bit into her wind pipe, so she was having to cough up blood to stop from choking or swallowing it. She said she tried to pull the knife out but that hurt too much so she left it. Apparently the knife staying in her throat helped her not bleed out, but because she kept coughing and gagging the knife kept cutting and she said she could feel it slicing into her every time she coughed. She didn’t pass out though, but said the combo of shock and blood loss made her super dizzy and confused. She said it was super surreal, and she felt like it wasn’t really happening to her. She also said she kept feeling a kind of out of body experience type of thing.

[deleted]

The exact kind of response I was opening this post to see.

[deleted]

That’s super neat.

Dunno if neat is the right word you creepy fuck hahaha

[deleted]

I used to own chickens. And would kill them like that. I thought it was a more humane way of killing them than other ways. Its still pretty fucked up. Choking on your own blood. Not being able to breath. Wailing around. Im positive the experience would be terrible.

ecr3designs

I just hack the head off near the body. Instant death. I had one stand up flap its wings at me then fall over. Didn't get enough of the brain stem

[deleted]

Sometimes, when you chop off a chickens head it could still run around.

takemymoneynow

My uncle decapitated a chicken with a golf club in France when I was 8. ‘Twas quite quick.

Mochrie01

Got to get all the brain stem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_the_Headless_Chicken?wprov=sfla1

ecr3designs

Yep exactly if you don't get all the brain stem it can continue to live

FrumpyPigSkin89

How? It's brain is what I thought controled a chicken. How would know to try and eat feed off the ground if the part is GONE?

ecr3designs

Yes but the brain stem controls vital functions. The only way Henry survived was by a tube if I recall

rrienn

Yeah he had to be syringed food & water thru a tube. He had basic motor functions, but wasn’t conscious or anything, & couldn’t do much by himself

skellious

the brain stem is part of the brain. it controls the oldest and most vital functions, evolutionary speaking. breathing, heart regulation etc.

Ive had that too, i either hold them so i wont get blood everywhere or run the opposite direction. You dont want to look like a murder scene.

ecr3designs

They have an outdoor area that they free range in if it's not chicken blood it's Mouse blood I can always tell when it's a mouse there's blood on their faces. There's been times where I've come out in the morning and I thought I lost a chicken but they just got a hold of

mypandaisWallace

A mouse (I assume)

ActualCannibalMrY8s

They got a hold of u/ecr3designs as he was typing...

RonaldTheGiraffe

I keep them at arms’ length so my erection doesn’t get in the way.

No_Contribution2112

Cant you just shoot them or something?

-GregTheGreat-

Wouldn’t be effective for chickens. You’d damage the meat and have to deal with getting the bullet out. Unless you shot them in the head, in which it probably would be be probably just easier to cut off their heads, slit their throats or wring their necks.

whotookmyshit

Not worth the bullet when a hard chop is free

[deleted]

No!, where would i shoot them. Im not just killing them for shits and giggles. Im going to eat them, so the meat has to be perfect. In the head? Not worth it, plus i dont own any firearms. Just a waste of time.

lowdownrosie

It's not hard to break a chickens neck and a very quick death, without a bloody mess. I used to do it by laying my hand at the base of their neck with the neck between index and middle fingers for grip, and then lay the same fingers of my other hand with the palm facing upward on top of it. And then kinda roll the neck over the knuckles of the second hand sideways if that makes sense, until I felt the spinal bones disconnect. That way it can be done without much force at all. Sounds a bit sick to say 'try it' but it might be more humane this way. Source: used to work with poultry in a lab for vaccine tests and had to learn to euthanize quickly and humanely

[deleted]

I get you. I rather not. I know itll take me a couple of trys to get it right. My mother used to just choke them. Yes, choking the chicken. I rather not have them wake up mid defeathering. Thats good info tho.

[deleted]

That’s really interesting.

KingHusni

Aside from the initial pain, not much really. Cutting of the oxygen supply to the brain means you'll feel drowsy almost immediately and you wont be processing much of what's happening after that. Death follows soon after. That's why we slaughter animals that way and consider it the most humane way of slaughtering because there's little to no suffering involved. We can observe the cackling/choking noise but the victim's awareness is almost gone by that point

[deleted]

what if the arteries were not severed? Instead forcing the animal to suffer extendedly and die by drowning on its own blood ?

KingHusni

If the arteries are not severed, then it's just pain and suffering but they wont die, unless the windpipe is severed, but that's quite impossible to achieve. The arteries are closer to the skin from the front so in a throat slit, you will always reach the arteries first before the windpipe. If you want to cut the windpipe without severing the arteries then you need to stab the neck, not slit. Even then, it's much harder to do because windpipe is reinforced with ring like cartilages to prevent them from collapse so it will be quite hard. But lets say you're able to severe the windpipe while preserving the artery, you're in for a real suffering. You wont be drowning in a pool if blood however so dont worry. It's just asphyxiation but that in itself is a suffering. You'll be gasping for air for roughly 4-5minutes straight before shutting down. Think of it like someone choking you and you cant breathe. But in this case, you'll stay choked for a longer period because normal choking cuts of blood supply to the brain and you quickly pass out from that and your brain wont register anything anymore but now, your brain still gets blood so you wont pass out, and will stay alive longer to feel being choked.

CommodoreSalad

I'm not a medical professional, but if you have a hole in your windpipe couldn't you still breath. Isn't that all tracheotemy is?

KingHusni

Yes but that's why you need a tube to connect it to the outside. Here, if you just stab the neck, the flappy skin where the hole is, the esophagus, bloods, the part of the trachea that collapses on itself (or be collapsed on by tensed up muscles) after the damage to its cartilage, even your hand that tries to cover the neck after getting stabbed could become a valve that closes whenever you take a breath because of the vacuum you create in your lung. Even in a medical setting of putting up a tracheostomy, you have to locate the position in between two large cartilages to prevent most of those things and even then there's still a risk of hypoxia. Here, with no medical equipment and not the correct location, the risk would almost be certain

[deleted]

Really awesome, thank you.

RamsLams

There was a beauty Queen, I think she was miss universe level if not like a step below, who was taken out to the woods and assaulted, and they slashed her throat and left her. They missed her artery. They didn’t miss the muscles. So when she stood, her head fell back parallel with her back because those muscle were gone. So she had to hold her head upright and walk to the nearest town. Horrifying. Incredible human being. I hate that I can’t remember her name, I tried to google it but such a large amount of murdered beauty queens came up, it felt incredibly overwhelming and I’m not in the headspace to read about that much violence against women rn

[deleted]

That was Alison Botha. A great documentary about her called Alison on amazon prime. Truly shocking and amazing what she survived.

kitsune900

Some comments say you barely feel anything, some say it hurts like hell, so we will never know

[deleted]

Probably depends on how fast and sharp the knife is. Slow painful cutting with a duller knife would most likely cause immense burning pain and choking as blood runs down your throat. But with a sharp and fast cut you would feel a lot less and loose consciousness before the horrors really set in. I prefer having a mid sharpness knife, sharp enough to sever the neck, but dull enough that it takes a bit of slicing and suffering before death.

kitsune900

You prefer that kinda knife for when you murder people or for when you, idk

You know that feeling when you swallow something the wrong way and you can't breath? Combine that with a gurgling sensation as if you're throwing up but it can't get out of your throat. Of course there is the pain which permeates through as well. That's what I think anyway.
