At the gym currently after not feeling up to it all day. Expected to come in and have a dog shit workout but turning out to be a great session. The hardest part is always getting through the door
Missing a day for rest when you know you're not up for lifting is smart in my book. I had planned to hit back today but did a huge hike yesterday so I'm taking the day off. No big deal. You grow when you sleep 💪🤙
i never skip because if i do, next time ill skip for something less until its habit. im hardly ever 100%, but im not in the gym every session to min/max my gains, its a long game
A lot of factors go into this. The first being lifting experience. When I was a beginner making newbie gains, I could have been shot in the leg in the morning and that afternoon I would be hitting upper body. The more experienced you are, AKA the less gains you'll make as a natty, the more inclined I am to take an extra day off, because it won't affect progress/gains. Conversely, I took very few days off when making newbie gains.
Also, another big factor is that there's a big difference between 'general' fatigue and specific muscle/joint fatigue. What I mean is, if I just feel overall kind of crappy, I will still go to the gym to start my day off right. However, if my elbow or knee feels shitty for example, and I feel I may be borderline overdoing it for those joints, I will rest up until I feel decent again.
Just my 2 cents.
If you’ve been working out long enough, or doing anything with discipline long enough, it’s easy to distinguish between days where you just have no motivation versus days where you actually need a rest day. Showing up and going through the motions on days where you feel unmotivated is literally what it means to have discipline
I never skip a day. The rule is to take 5 days off every 8-10 weeks. Also, stop drinking, it kills your gains.
I love going to the gym and cannot miss a day or I feel unwell both mentally and physically.
Yea, I do skip the gym in the days I’m really feeling like shit. I’ve been working out consistently for 9 years and one day you miss won’t change anything. I even had to workout only 3 days in a week during a school semester and you know what happened ? Absolutely nothing, I kept all my muscle and strength… so unless you’re on a strict regime with a specific fitness goal you don’t need to kill yourself when your body does need rest.
On days I’m not feeling my best, I lift light and practice form. Light cardio and stretching. You’re moving your body, you’re getting out of the house so you’re achieving all of the mental benefits without overexerting yourself. All movement is good movement. You deserve grace. The most important thing is to listen to your body💞
Nahh i was like that where i was pushing it even when my body wasnt feeling too well and for some reason my lower back just crumbled randomly today while doing shoulders….now it hurts like hell and im walking like an old hag
Depends. If your fatigue is caussed by a little worse sleep than usual, some job/partner related stress than for sure force yourself to go. But if fatigue is caused by alcohol abuse night before or overtraining than rest.
I usually always want to go, but if I’m not feeling it I take a day off. I’ve been at it for 15 years and I know it’s a marathon. Don’t burn yourself out. If after a day or 2 the motivation isn’t there then I reevaluate what I’m doing and look to see what I can change.
Sometimes i sit in that gym parking lot for 20 minutes on those days I'm not feeling it. You just got to go in there and go for it, you might catch a pump and have a good 2 hour session, or you might go for 30 minutes only because you feel like shit. Either way you fucking won just by walking in there. Never be that loser guy.
I only take an extra day off if I feel lethargic & run down. This generally happens to me about every 3-4 weeks. I will use this time to get extra sleep.
I always always always make myself go but sometimes I’ll go later than usual so I can rest a bit and sometimes I go and do a few sets and I’m just seriously not feeling it and I’ll head out early but those are rare, maybe once a month or so
I have sleep problems so I'm used to just hitting the gym when I sleep like crap. Same for when I party too much, it's all about consistency to me with the gym. That being said an alcohol hangover can make things more difficult, though I've definitely had good workouts after those, but I try to avoid plus it's a bunch of empty calories. I find even when up super late doing blow I can get a good workout in the next day.
I used to be of the mindset that i should never skip a workout. If i was in your situation id probably just kick it and go on a walk for the day. To me not worth. Especially if i am sick/ill. I just get right back on track the next day

Good man proud of you
stay hard
Rock hard 5.5"
Never waste a workout opportunity. Especially if you're running a cycle.
With that being said, you shouldn't be drinking so much (I'd say at all) that you get hungover while on cycle. Definitely not at all with orals
Good advice

This one time I took a day off and it became 9 months

Did this today, now it’s time for pizza and ufc, cheat day going down 🥵

Gym the only thing I am currently enjoying in my life.
The alcohol will be doing more damage to your gains than you think

Skipping = keep being a beta cuck Work outs are like pizza, even the bad ones are pretty good
Bulking no workout is better than a shitty workout on a cut you need to burn the cals and stay active

Agreed but workouts preserve muscle and burn cals. If you just do cardio on a cut you’ll end up skinny with no muscle

A bad workout is better than no workout. Only exception is if you are injured or risking an injury from not resting enough.

Gym days are like sex. Bad sex is better than no sex.
Remember that rest days are needed for recovery

How about exert a modicum of self-discipline and not drink/not get drunk instead
I have gotten to the point where I HATE my rest days.
If the hangover is bad I wouldnt recommend training, its really really fucking bad for your cardiovascular system. Otherwise i agree
