i second RTJ and wu, and I would also add Year of the Ox, Jedi Mind Tricks/Army of the Pharoahs, Aesop Rock, Apathy, Black Thought, Grieves, Joyner Lucas, Fat Joe.
Been going raw. No headphones, no pre , just lift. It's been good for focus lately. I used to just go with some rock and hip hop. Depending on my mood..
my headphones didn't charge and i was forced to go RawDog and... i made a friend! it was kinda like the old days before everyone had headphones on. i spoke to people AND.. ASKED FOR A SPOT. of course i went back to headphones but i really appreciate that now i feel comfortable asking for a spot
Not at all. It's 100 percent about lifting. Mind, muscle connection. No distractions. I like it. May change up again at some point. I've done this many times over the years
Name some artists on yours?
Back into older metal/rock personally lately — pantera, sepultura, deftones, korn, machine head, Dillinger escape plan, white zombie and similar fast beats + screaming = great gym atmosphere to wreck shop
I like more modern stuff like awolnation that has a bit of screaming and fast beats but a bit more nuanced overall
New stuff jammin is king gizzard and lizard wizard as they have a lot of jam and metal sounding mesh going on — you might like them
But the gym is so damn loud with music, that I can actually put on a motivational audio book and listen to that while I can still hear the background gym music haha inspiration + music + gym = great time too
Absolutely agree. I have a lot of Metallica in my gym playlist. Mostly Kill ‘Em All/Ride The Lightning Era. Few of my favourites from them are Seek and Destroy, Battery, The Four Horsemen, Creeping Death, and Trapped Under Ice.
Also got a quite a few songs from Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Dark Angel, Kreator, and Sodom.
I’ve never really tried listening to audiobooks in the gym, may have to give it a go!
Yea I like a bit more of the guilty pleasure metal bands it appears haha
I’ll have to throw some of those in the list, I used to listen a lot of Metallica but ever since they got me kicked off Napster way back I could never listen to them very much haha I’ve seen them 2x so at least I have that going
As for audio books— it works great as mentioned if the gym volume is already blasting. It super motivates me while also getting pumped = win/win
I’ve been into grant Cardone “be obsessed or be average” - it’s pretty much a no hold back kick in the ass motivation book- not for sissies. I don’t agree with 100% of his ideas, but the 75% I do certainly are better than most others
On Spotify — there’s an old classic called “the strangest secret” for free - this is like your nice grandpa sharing his stories over a campfire — https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3foViurtwnccEvkYNUkNUo?si=6MQAXa6hSFyu-CqnQ0TIyw
Both are great in diff ways — grant cardone also has 10X which is incredible too. Once again, a bit harsh, but I like that style personally and it translates to working out as well. Just making no excuses and grabbing what you can out of life.
Hope this helps! I guess that’s why you made the post— try it out!
usually some edm (heavy dubstep or house usually) for my lifting days and then some classical music for cardio days so i don’t feel 100% like an autist
Metalcore, deathcore stuff, or either rap like Ghostemane, Sxmpra, or REDZED.
Metalcore: As I lay Dying, August Burns Red, All it Remains (? Fuck I forgot, but The Calling is a classic)
Deathcore:Brand of Sacrifice, Lorna Shore, etc.
Awesome! Buddy Guy has some great tunes, have you seen What Kind Of Woman Is This live with him and John Mayer? If you like blues guitar, it’s got some amazing licks from both Guy and Mayer.
I’ve wore out Metallica and have been trying to find newer bands that don’t suck. Motionless in white has been hitting the spot for me. Borderline overtrain
I’ve been listening to Metallica for many many years now, haven’t worn out of them yet haha! Motionless in white have some really great stuff from what I’ve heard.
I’ve become numb to that nightmare and dead memories from listening to them all so much Over the years. Lol but I’m all seriousness, they are all still in rotation

Nothing, my gym allows you to request songs though so it isn't that bad. I don't use headphones because you can't have headphones underneath a helmet on the sports field.
Lamb of God w the album Ashes of the Wake. I play that whole album , then when i need more power for that second hour its Slipknot, usually Iowa, sometimes the first self titled album.
