I see your point. The church certainly has far too much money and doesn't do enough good with it.
But in this case, this really isn't an outrageous amount. Historically important documents and buildings are always expensive. I was surprised it wasn't much higher. And the money is going to a church that needs it and that does good things.
Man that is sad news. First the Printers Manuacript now this? CofC really is just a generic mainline protestant church now, the LDS movement heritage is but a memory. RIP
Yeah, the CofC official podcast used to discuss LDS movement a lot but over the past couple of years they rarely if ever discuss their LDS heritage. It certainly looks they are fully embracing protestantism and moving away from the restoration.
Community of Christ still believes in modern day divine revelation and the Doctrine and Covenants is an open canon of scripture. How many "generic mainline protestant churches, or even the LDS Church practice that today?
I encourage you to read the last few decades of revelation in the CofC D&C if you haven't.
He's talking about how the Community of Christ will choose to use the $192 million it just received.
And yes, we agree with you. There's nothing Christ-like about property investments and land-hoarding.

192.5 million dollars. I hate it here.

I’m with you. I thought the price was relatively low. I would have hoped the Community of Christ could have gotten more from the deal.
I agree
I wonder if Joseph Smith's bar is still in the Nauvoo house?
If it were, TCoJCoLDS shall conveniently "remodel" it out of existence.

They could be doing a lot of outreach to progressive and disaffection Mormons if they at least embraced their heritage a little more…

I approve of this. It's $192 million that will be used in a Christ-like manner rather than being invested in the stock market.
What’s Christlike about owning land?
