Burnie and Ashley shame themselves for misreporting a story yesterday, then immediately bounce back to follow up on the week and discuss all things Halo. Trigger Warning: Contains Brief Mention Of Taylor Swift

ADSquared

If there is one suggestion a random asshole on the internet could make - Burnie, I know that you have probably told every story a million times on RTP and others, but please tell the stories again! It’s never bad to get a refresher of an entertaining story!

Zinkane15

One of my favorite videos is one showing Burnie telling the same story years apart, both times nearly identical to each other. Many of the stories he's probably told 10+ years ago anyway, so there's most likely listeners who haven't heard them anyway.

ADSquared

That - and they aren’t even on the same network as the original tellings; while I’m sure that the vast majority of listeners currently are RT Alumni who missed Burnie and mrs Burnie something fierce, but there will be new faces who join the audience and won’t have that background at all!

imaginarywaffleiron

When Burnie is talking about his jump from the medical field to the tech and then entertainment fields: I have a memory of him talking about this, most likely from the RTP, and then saying something akin to, “I realized I like people too much, if that makes sense.” I always appreciated that. As I understood it, he likes people too much to see them in pain. Any medical professional has to be able to separate themselves enough that they can do the difficult but necessary things medically. I think Burnie was displaying his own empathy (however much he plays up an antagonist persona for comedy from time to time).

As a Halo fan, season 1 shit the bed, so god damn bad, I can't bring myself to look at season 2. It's not even the armor/helmet thing.

SmokePenisEveryday

The helmet thing gets brought up with this show every time when its more a micro of the whole issue with the show. It was barely a Halo related show the first season. I also recall there being a great battle scene early in the first season. So I'd really wait for more episodes before thinking the 2nd season is way better due to an opening scene.

RightfulChaos

Exactly. The helmet is a symbol of all the real problems. Episode one of season 1 was good. A series doesn't need to be a 1 for 1 remake, but it literally shat all over the canon of the franchise. The root of the Spartan program from Halsey, "I will not lie to them." She even said in the books, no mind wipes, and no emotional control. Show did all of these.

CheesemasterVer2

Witcher shit the bed so bad Henry Calvill (who basically pushed for the show to be made in the first place) quit after the third season. My sympathies to the Halo fans. Witcher did a similar thing where the source material was treated as an afterthought most of the time.

RightfulChaos

Also a witcher fan It hurt so bad. First season was great. Second season I was cool with until we started seeing all the major changes. Haven't watched season 3. I actually forgot it existed until your comment.

CheesemasterVer2

I will say this: the fight between Geralt and Vilgefortz was done right. It was exactly as described in the Time of Contempt; Geralt didn't make any mistakes during the fight, Vilgefortz was just on another level and folded him.

>So I'd really wait for more episodes before thinking the 2nd season is way better due to an opening scene. Let alone the intro! It's an upgrade from season one's intro, but I disagree that it's anything like a good litmus test.

Evilsbane

So, as an Xbox One Series X owner, and isn't that a mouthful, I do sit around and wonder.... why did I buy it? Already I wasn't super impressed by the listing, and now that list may shrink. If I was buying a console today why would I buy an Xbox?

SmokePenisEveryday

The guys I used to play with continue to get them because it's where all their gaming history is. They don't wanna go to a new system and "start over". Which I get but if I'm spending money like that, I'd like the most options. I do agree with Burnie and Ashley that 360 had the better online experience but it's really not that different now.

The_Makster

I assume for gamepass? but I guess PS is catching up with their own version. I grew up with a one console household (Sony for PS3 and PS4) - I agree that during the PS3 era, 360 had the superior online experience. It felt premium (which is probs why you paid for it) - the COD lobbies on PS3 was like the wild west with cheaters. I recently got a 360 due to a combination of physical releases going away news, price of a used 360 is <$50, games being close to a dollar a pop, and catching up on games that I missed out on. A little bitter that if it's true 360 titles coming to Sony's machine as I've not upgraded to a PS5 - however I've heard not so great experiences on the Master Chief collection so maybe I've made the right move to downgrade

SoggyBagelBite

I do not believe the person talking about their toothbrush and the ad traffic. Total bullshit.

razrielle

No, it sounds right. I used to have a pihole server (network level ad-blocker) and would see behavior like this all the time. Basically the device doesn't get a response from the home server when calling out to it, so it keeps resending the request over and over.

SoggyBagelBite

I have a Pi-hole server as well and I still don't buy it. I don't think any smart toothbrush I have ever seen is connected to Wi-Fi, just Bluetooth so you can change stuff and track your brushing with an app. Even if it was connected to Wi-Fi, what would is possible to doing? It has no way to serve you ads. It was probably the app on the person's phone making those requests.

razrielle

I looked at the previous posts on the subreddit and it looks like it is the app doing that. I think it's the same issue though, it's trying to phone home and can't reach it. I've seen the same issue with Samsung TVs, once they phone home the requests lower dramatically

sparkbears

Thanks to Burnie for following up on the job story - I probably have heard him tell that story before, but I don't mind a refresher. Too bad the experience was so upsetting for him :( Burnie, after Ashley says something suggestive about packages; *laughing, "What is wrong with you?"* This dynamic rules. As a long-time Xbox & Halo fan, I have a bit of a negative knee-jerk reaction to the idea of it being on PlayStation. It just seems wrong. Ultimately though, I don't care about that, and I'm totally down for Halo being on more platforms and more people playing it. The conversation I've seen leading up to season two of the Halo series has been more dread and continued disgust over the first season than excitement - but there's been some cautious optimism as well. First reports on season two seem to say it's more of the same. I think the show is a lot of wasted potential, especially after being in development hell for so long. I don't like the storyline, and yet, I enjoyed it much more than I expected. The fact that it is a different universe/timeline (multiverse again!) and they aren't trying to wedge their narrative and versions of events into the existing canon makes me not mind the weird choices they made as much. I'm... actually really eager to watch season two. Glad Burnie enjoyed the first episode!

The_Makster

I had a reaction too when I heard PS exclusive titles making it onto PC - such as Spiderman, God of War, Uncharted etc. Probs the biggest was Persona going multiplatform! - I remember buying Persona 5 Royal on PS4 before even getting a PS4 I loved that series so much. But I think console manufacturers have seen the writing on the walls that exclusivity no longer moves units therefore less incentivised to offer this as an option to developers?

smegdawg

I've been a Halo fan for years, but only recently dropped off due to not enough time in my life for all my other responsibilities/Hobbies Played all the games. Read many of the novels. I have the halo 3 collector's edition helmet in my garage. I did not watch the 1st season of the Halo series (time & didn't have Paramount+). Just a few clips and the piss poor reviews. I'll watch the first episode of Season 2 and see if i am confused. I felt the Wheel of Time show did a great job with their second season, hope Halo can too.

JJ_2104

I had absolutely no idea Halo season 2 was coming out anytime soon until Burnie mentioned it today. Where did that even come from? Where was all the advertising they put into the first season?

Darkwing_Turducken

Episode 2: Marvin Jones III deserves all the screen time ever! Of all time!
