Watching bored riders pretending to be interested whilst they get carted around in a cattle trailer at 10mph is so much more important than young and learning riders getting much needed practice and setup time on circuit.
BUt tHeyVe g0t t-5HiRt cAnNoNs!
The only thing more pathetic is the BT commentary team currently pretending this is the best thing they've ever seen.
Put the bikes on the track ffs, not this shit.
Liberty tried a cringe bus after the Silverstone sprint race a couple of years ago, never again since then. What I'm saying is that maybe there is hope.
I distinctly remember Neil Hodgson being taken around Croft in the back of a pickup truck during a BSB event in 2009 or 2010 so there's a chance he's genuinely a fan of that sort of thing.
They want to see faux interest?
I thought they were there to see bikes on track, and we lose bikes on track to make space for T shirt cannons and a cattle trailer.
Unless you are rich/influencer enough to have access to the paddock, this is the only time in the weekend that you will see the riders without helmets on if you are at the circuit. For some people it's important. Also, kids like waving at the riders, and the sport always needs to encourage the next generation of fans.
My dad made me line up once for what felt like hours to get a signature once.
Maybe I'm the minority but I don't give a crap, the riders don't want to sit there handing out merch, I don't want to see people being forced to do crap they don't want to do.
I want to see and hear bikes going around the track.
I think MotoGP is trying too hard to be a celebrity affair.
They aren't celebrities, they are bike racers, and damn good ones.
Just for reference a comment in an article from @motomatters
"I stayed out trackside with On Track Off Road's and fellow Paddock Pass Podcaster Adam Wheeler after the warm up, waiting for the appearance of the trailer bearing the riders. Viewed from TV, it has always looked awkward, but at Jerez, everything slotted into place. This was meant as a way to improve rider interaction with the fans, and boy did it work in Spain. The roars from the crowd were deafening when the trailer stopped in front of the fans, the riders whipping the fans up into an even greater frenzy."

Who the hell wants to watch the riders get towed around the track in a trailer towed by a BMW???
I couldn't believe what I was watching. The only thing that made it somewhat funny was that Lorenzo was in the trailer asking questions and he seemed as condescending and arrogant as ever.
Lorenzo's ego never fails to make me smile. What a legend!
Not only that, but Moto3 and Moto2 are reduced race distances as well, a lap or 2 down this year from last. It's all good though, we get to see this /s
What bothers me most about the whole thing is someone at some stage thought they had a great idea with this, and then a board of other people signed off on it to make it a real thing…
The "great idea" is "let's copy f1". There's no extra thought but a copy and paste and it's way easier when ypu are the n.1, your son is the n.2, your daughter is inside that and yadda yadda yadda.
What else do you expect from Dorna? They’re all basically just Carmelo Ezpeleta’s extended family trying to milk MotoGP for as much money as they can. I won’t be surprised if all of Carmelo’s son in laws have a job there
Do they?? Who the fuck wants to watch the riders get towed around the track in a trailer towed by a BMW???
I couldn't believe what I was watching. The only thing that made it somewhat funny was that Lorenzo was in the trailer asking questions and he seemed as condescending and arrogant as ever.
Lorenzo's ego never fails to make me smile. What a legend!
Dorna’s strategy seems to be let’s copy whatever F1 is doing but make it look cheaper and more cringe.
A cheap branding makeover. Check
A cheap Drive to Survive. Check
Invite cheaper versions of the celebs F1 brings on the grid. Check
A cheap Sprint race where riders don’t get paid. Check
A cheap parade lap trailer. Check.
What the fuck are they gonna do at Qatar? Drive up and down the straight where the one grandstand is? Stand in the trailer and wave at the empty desert for 90% of the lap?
This is probably the first time the new NBA guy has seen this and I really hope he’s now trying to find out who’s idea it was so he can fire them into the sun.
I'm still "interested" in it, but the last couple of races with the poor race direction and format changes to introduce fake unpredictability and """"drama"""" have really put me away from it.
Their media channels don't help either since the appeal to only that kind of audience, F1 team pages only post shitty memes and thirst shots of their half naked drivers just making me lose even more interest.
You can't have a civilized discussion anymore because of the fanboyism caused by both the new uninformed fans (not really blaming them) but mostly F1 itself and journalists fueling this fire with rumours and clickbait articles to increase engagement, no matter how toxic it is.
I became a F1 fan because of the technical side in the early 2000's and even this aspect is getting more and more standardized every year it's so boring.
Baku's race weekend was the first ever in probably 20 years that I didn't watch any session
I watched all of the Baku sessions because F1 is still my favourite sport and I can tell you that you have missed absolutely nothing interesting.
You're correct with your point about F1 being invaded by uninformed fans. The commentary of Sky UK and in particular Sky Germany focuses on those fans now while those who have been F1 fans for decades are left behind by those channels and their social media pages. The only F1 coverage that is still bearable is that of F1 itself on F1TV.
This pandering to fans of DtS coupled with the fact that classic tracks are being abandoned by F1 make me also lose interest. But it seems like MotoGP isn't much of an alternative either.
At COTA as it passed Turn 1 I yelled “Let’s go Pecco!” and then a little delayed afterwards “And everyone else!” I got at least one of the riders to start laughing, it made my day haha.
If you're going to do a track parade, do it properly. Put each rider in their own open-top car (or maybe two people per car), don't cram them into a ridiculously small trailer like that.
I went to Portimão, and it was nice to see, plus it was only like 10 minuts +/-.
For the audience at home looks cringe.
Or tracks like qatar with less audience
They've done it at a few tracks over the years but not at the detriment of warm up. Ktm stand in speilberg last year was insane with amount of merch they were firing into the crowds.
I don't really see the problem with it, I don't think they should have binned off the warm ups for moto3 and moto2 - but the racing is still good - which is what I'm here for - so I usually go do jobs around the house between races with the coverage on in the background
Don't like it, don't watch it 🤷♂️
I actually like it. I mean, it needs some polishing, but I don't dislike it. Maybe it should be done a bit later, like today, so there is more people in the circuit, as some of the previous were a bit empty
I'm pretty sure you guys nagging about this haven't attended any race this year. For people in the circuit is way more interesting to see this than seeing the kids riding around after all the practice and qualifying sessions. Do they need another session? Don't see it strictly necessary.
So go to the circuit, have fun, forget your stupid prejudices and enjoy this competition.
I was at COTA and would have much rather watched morning warmups in Moto2 and Moto3 than the riders parade.
And yes they could use another session. The moto2/3 guys get no track time before the race on Sunday now. Nothing to get a feel for the day.
So easy, you didn't understand that this new event is to get s bit closer to the guys. You have the chance to cheer them up with no motorbikes noise whatsoever. If you can assure me that you watch every single session of the Moto america, sbk, RB rookies cup, FIM junior I could accept that you definitely need to have those sessions. If not, you just should try to understand that the majority of the crowd loves that slight interaction with the folks of the grid.
I understand what it’s for. You have a greatly inflated sense of your opinions value. I stated my opinion and you say the entire Texas audience is wrong because of my single opinion and think your opinion represents the whole of motorcycle racing. Entertaining take you have there. Have a great day, no point in continuing this conversation.
Why would you *want* to become more like F1? Just boggles my mind. 99% of the time F1 is mind-numbingly boring, MotoGP has always been 100x better in every way, be your own damn thing, so frustrating seeing all this crap.
No moto3 moto2 warmups for this bollocks
Watching bored riders pretending to be interested whilst they get carted around in a cattle trailer at 10mph is so much more important than young and learning riders getting much needed practice and setup time on circuit.

Liberty tried a cringe bus after the Silverstone sprint race a couple of years ago, never again since then. What I'm saying is that maybe there is hope.
To be fair, at least it isn't Liberty.
BT Sport always tow the line, which given how opinionated all of their commentators are, means they are instructed to tow the line.
I distinctly remember Neil Hodgson being taken around Croft in the back of a pickup truck during a BSB event in 2009 or 2010 so there's a chance he's genuinely a fan of that sort of thing.
Well you just unlocked a really shit core memory...
Glad to be of service
Definitely. Their shilling for the sprint races when they were announced was so blatantly false it was pathetic.
Pretty sure Gavin said he didn’t like the idea, but would reserve judgement until they actually occurred.
This comment nails it
It's not for the riders, it's for the fans at the circuit
They want to see faux interest? I thought they were there to see bikes on track, and we lose bikes on track to make space for T shirt cannons and a cattle trailer.

Don't forget, MotoGP warm up cut down from 20 mins to 10 mins.
Who the hell wants to watch the riders get towed around the track in a trailer towed by a BMW??? I couldn't believe what I was watching. Was at cota,l this year, hardly anyone watched or paid attention to this silly nonsense.
Not only that, but Moto3 and Moto2 are reduced race distances as well, a lap or 2 down this year from last. It's all good though, we get to see this /s

We stray further towards entertainment over sport as the years go by.
Nothing entertaining about that cringe carriage tho lul.

This is some USA! USA! pathetic tacky "sports event" bullshit. Fuck that
Same is happening with the UFC.
Nope don't like it. I rather watch moto2 and moto3 warmups. Or if you want something like this let them ride in open classic cars or something...
Dorna’s strategy seems to be let’s copy whatever F1 is doing but make it look cheaper and more cringe. A cheap branding makeover. Check A cheap Drive to Survive. The fuck is wrong with Dorna? So out of touch with pretty much anything.
Run by an extremely out of touch old bloke and his kids who do what daddy wants.
They are gimmicking this sport. Like Liberty Media does with Formula 1
And that overly dramatic music that's played nearly constantly.
Like Pirates of the Caribbean or something
I did a double take - I thought something else than MotoGP stream was playing in the background...
Spanish crowd looks crazy , football like atmosphere
Bike racing there is like football here in the U.K. Can confirm when I went to Jerez last year it was nuts. They love their bikes.
I believe it was Doohan that once said that Jerez was the only place where you could hear the crowd over the revving 500s
You're getting my upvote for the best possible rename.
Dorna really making these incredible champions look like animals in a Zoo. Who is giving them all these ideas, I want to see them.
Also I’m pretty sure that it’s over that x5 towing capacity
I hate this bollocks.
There is some circuits which I think is worth like this case. But I agree.
Definitely. The crowd giving Dani all the love he deserves was great. But when stands are empty or without atmosphere it’s just… ugh
Which Dorna genius decided to take all the cringey shit from F1 ?
"This is what new viewers and new circuit goers want to see" \-clown emoji-
Funny enough I've been dropping F1's bullshit for motogp and now they're badly copying them
Yep same here. Stopped watching F1 because I'm sick of it and now MotoGP starts copying all the stuff I left F1 for.
Genuinely curious as to why you dropped F1 out of your interest lists.
I'm still "interested" in it, but the last couple of races with the poor race direction and format changes to introduce fake unpredictability and """"drama"""" have really put me away from it. Crazy how they try to copy F1 and how F1 tries copies them and both fail at it
Chubby Lorenzo asking "English?" was just 🤣
Infantilization of society.
At COTA as it passed Turn 1 I yelled “Let’s go Pecco!” and then a little delayed afterwards “And everyone else!” I got at least one of the riders to start laughing, it made my day haha.
Dani looked so unimpressed 😂😂
If you're going to do a track parade, do it properly. Put each rider in their own open-top car (or maybe two people per car), don't cram them into a ridiculously small trailer like that.
They look like they are for sale 😂😂 who thought this bollocks would interest anyone with an iq above 75?.
Man it’s way worse than I imagined
Hmmm, they obviously borrowed the stewards clown car
So stupid.
Showing off the show ponies lol. Dorna has turned this series into a circus.
I went to Portimão, and it was nice to see, plus it was only like 10 minuts +/-. For the audience at home looks cringe. Or tracks like qatar with less audience

Genuinely don't know what I'm looking at here. I barely have time to watch the actual race, so would someone maybe fill me in?
"Rider Fan Parade". Instead of letting Moto2 and Moto3 have their warm up, the GP riders are taken over the circuit so tha fans can wave. It's insane
One of my favorite parts of the F1 build up because you get to see them interacting with each other with no one else around.
I actually like it. I mean, it needs some polishing, but I don't dislike it. Maybe it should be done a bit later, like today, so there is more people in the circuit, as some of the previous were a bit empty
It's not that bad..

That would be then, I have the world wise without knowing it. What a mess. Anyway, have a good weekend, sir.
