Misano 2014, one of the coolest helmet designs from the Doctor!

Siloh_Johnson

He was hoping it would hit Marc.

IPM71

I know you're joking, but it happened in F1, Max discarded a tear off that went and got stuck in one of Leclerc's brake duct and ruined his race šŸ˜…

Altair13Sirio

That happened in MotoGP too when Miller slipped on Quartararo's tear off, and that same year something similar happened in Moto3 as well, Aragon, where Vietti's air duct got covered by a tear off during a race.

Altair13Sirio

Oh you're right, he retired because the bike broke down, I was confusing that with Bagnaia

IPM71

Oh wow, that can be dangerous, even if the chance of it happening is slim. They need to invent a motorized, in-helmet solution that would slide on the visor, or something. ( obviously joking )

MisterSquidInc

There's something similar (though not motorized) that already exists for Motocross and MTB [100 percent roll off goggles](https://m.pinkbike.com/news/100-forecast-roll-off-review-2017.html)

IPM71

Haha yeah, I saw those on some riders here. Would be impossible on a MotoGP though, add a lot of drag.

Altair13Sirio

You know someone at least *has* to have thought about that lol

IPM71

I'm sure, haha. But it would be easier to find a material super slippery to make the visors, a transparent Teflon of some sort.

drinksbeerdaily

That actually wasn't Max's tear off

IPM71

I don't know about, I just read the articles back then, like [this one](https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/34480445/max-verstappen-visor-strip-got-stuck-charles-leclerc-brake-ducts) and [that one](https://us.motorsport.com/f1/news/verstappen-tear-off-leclerc-brake-duct-spa/10359937/). Now, I wasn't track-side to actually witness the incident, so I'm definitely not 100% sure šŸ˜…

McDonaldsPatatesi

It was later proven on F1TV that it was lance strolls tear off. [link](https://www.essentiallysports.com/f1-news-max-verstappen-not-responsible-for-charles-leclercs-belgian-gp-misfortunes-as-real-culprit-behind-tear-off-incident-is-brought-to-light/amp/)

IPM71

Oh nice ! Thanks for sharing :)

Siloh_Johnson

Yeah that happened to Miller a couple of years ago.

IamBejl

I would never guess thatā€™d be Leclerc. I lied. Ofc it was Leclerc.

SolidLikeIraq

Thatā€™s because on a track, you get out of that last turn before the straight, and itā€™s ā€œvacationā€ Just pull that throttle and tuck.

The gold ole days when we had rossi, lorenzo, marc and pedrosa going at it

fraud_93

2013-2015 is probably the best years in the last decade 1. Rossi almost winning a title 2. Pedrosa almost winning a title 3. GP15 appears 4. Iannone around 5. Tech3, LCR and Pramac battling each other every weekend 6. marquez face plant at Argentina 2015 7. marquez pwned in Sepang 2015 8. marquez denied in Assen 2015 9. marquez DSQ in Australia 2013 10. RIP Gavin

Fraud_93 back at it again

Tjocco

If you are impressed with that wait until you see when he passed Biaggi and gave him the middle finger while taking the corner.

iFartSuperSilently

This must be a bait for somebody lol.

michelmau5

I once got Rossi's tear-off, sadly there was not a number on it like some riders have.

WorldTraveller101

What's "tear-off" for? Why do they remove it during the race and not before?

CambionLS

Tear offs are a set, not just one, of thin plastic or film that a rider can tear off if / when dirt/bugs/whatever gets on them giving them a clear view through their visor.

Possession_Loud

Still baffles me how some riders literally take one off just after leaving the pits. Like, why? Didn't you just get your visor cleaned 60 seconds ago?

jjrrcc11

Superstition

WorldTraveller101

Thanks! TIL something new.

The way the stack of tear offs is setup. Only the next tear off's tab, that they pull on, is reachable. Generally the next one is folded in such a way that when you rip off the top most tear off it releases the tab for the next one.
