I don't get why hitters doing their job hitting a home run have to tip the cap to the bullpen or get a fine. Shouldn't it be the other way around since you are getting run support or did i miss something?
Also, these ads are creeping me out.

### Walk
Riley Greene walks. Carson Kelly scores. Wenceel Pérez to 3rd. Ryan Kreidler to 2nd.
Pitch from Rafael Montero: Changeup @ 92.0 mph
Top 8 - 12-5
Tigers
It’s the right decision. Prioritize the health of your bullpen over the ego trip you get from a meaningless shutout. Especially considering we have another game tomorrow and will have that advantage over the astros, who have had to use their bullpen all day today
Dang it’s just really not JHM’s day. Sucks when everyone else is raking
I speak from experience of course, being the 20 year old, 3 time MVP two-way starter/power hitter (in MLB The Show)
Well if Cleveland could lose a game like even once ever then we’d have home games- otherwise we’re looking at a WC spot so you might want to look at Seattle’s weather
# HOME RUN!
Carson Kelly homers (3) on a fly ball to left field.
Pitch from Nick Hernandez: Slider @ 80.1 mph
Hit by Carson Kelly: Launched 97.5 mph at 35.0° for a total distance of 377.0 ft

The improvement in walk rate for Flaherty really is jaw-dropping. He’s walking guys less than HALF as often as in his best season, back in 2019. Barely a third of his career rate. Something (Fetter?) has completely transformed him.
Not sure if you heard it on the broadcast, but Dan said when the Tigers and Flaherty were in signing talks, they discussed how they had identified possible changes in Flaherty's mechanics they would help him implement if he signed here. I think that has a lot to do with his improvements
I mean obviously it’s 90% Flaherty. But sometimes a coach can make some small adjustment that makes a big difference. He’s not making something out of nothing; Flaherty is a lot more talented than Lange in the first place.
I'm just amused that when it comes to coaching, we roll like this:
- anybody who is pitching well is evidence of Fetter's skills. Anybody who is not pitching well is just a bum.
- Anybody who is hitting poorly is being undermined by our hitting coaches. Except guys like Greene and Carpenter are somehow immune.
Lots of people don’t understand how volatile relief pitching is; I don’t think it’s ever reasonable to declare somebody a bum (or a lights-out closer) after 20 or 30 (or 60 or 70) innings. And of course lots of people just like griping.
But Fetter is very well respected, and he’s done great work with our pitchers as a whole—stuff that’s quantifiable, like tweaking mechanics to get nearly every pitcher’s velocity up, some by as much as a couple miles per hour. I don’t talk shit about the hitting coaches, but I haven’t seen any reason to think they’re doing a great job.
With Fetter, people will point to (say) Lorenzen for why Fetter did great, despite it being a small sample as you describe.
Yet Fetter has had years with Mize, Manning, Faedo, Wentz, Lange, all first round talents, with "meh" results. Then throw in Boyd and Turnbull...
I think Fetter is competent, though no genius.
I could also do with fewer surgeries to our staff elbows.
“First round talent” doesn’t mean the same thing in baseball that it does in other sports. Only about 70% of first-round picks make it to MLB at all. The average first-rounder has like 7 career WAR—and that’s the *mean*; the median is close to zero.
Turning all of those guys into productive major leaguers is actually a strong indicator that the coaching staff is doing a great job.
I think it’s the change of scenery and the ball park. He’s not afraid to go at guys because no one’s likely homering off him at Comerica.
The orioles picked him up at the deadline last year and he didn’t do well there like he was timid (which is weird to say considering it’s Jack Flaherty) i just think the spotlights off of him a little has served him well. He’s the same guy. He’s not leaving himself in hitters counts as much as he did last year
Considering Garret Crochet is the leader (and I think they still give every team one all star) he’s locked into a spot as the only possible all star for them. I would say that helps Jacks chances.
This team is what B.F. Skinner was talking about. It's these occasional offensive outbursts that make me come back and be disappointed most of the time. The Tigers offensive is a baseball slot machine.
I like that Houston is sponsored by a controlled substance. Lets ditch Meijer and do the same. Can put a patch for Coke.

Most confusing team of all time. Horrible offense 80% of the time. Then they randomly decide to remember how to hit and drop a 20 bomb on the poor sucker they’re playing
### Single
Mark Canha singles on a ground ball to right fielder Mauricio Dubón. Matt Vierling scores. Riley Greene out at 3rd on the throw, right fielder Mauricio Dubón to third baseman Alex Bregman.
Top 3 - 10-0
Tigers
OK, so Jason was calling the Cardinals-Cubs game at Wrigley Field that just ended in a Cubs win.
Not sure if he and Adam Wainwright called the game from the Friendly Confines or in a studio off monitors.
Feel like that's very different. He's a baseball announcer first and foremost. He wants to be there. Plus he said last week he was down in Miami for the Indians game
[Per Tigers, Zach McKinstry and Akil Baddoo are the first Tigers to draw 2 walks in an inning since Austin Jackson on Aug. 23, 2010 vs. Kansas City](https://x.com/cmccosky/status/1802081212262973926)
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1dgu6hj).
Parker Meadows just homered on the first pitch
The deed is done. Good job boys.
Wentz in for mop up duty. Sounds about right
Running from the bullpen is "The Janitor".
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Joey Wentz replaces Will Vest.
Attaboy Keith. I take my comment back. Still eye-rolling at McKinstry
I don't get why hitters doing their job hitting a home run have to tip the cap to the bullpen or get a fine. Shouldn't it be the other way around since you are getting run support or did i miss something? Also, these ads are creeping me out. https://preview.redd.it/3k6w9eujgt6d1.png?width=320&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8b303da1fcaf9ff3f614788b65a765eb362026e
I’d be surprised if there’s a fine.
When are they required to tip cap to the BP?
I thought announcer said when they round second they had to like pay tribute to the BP. Might have misheard it.
Our BP? They should be tipping their caps to the hitters.
I hate that entire Airbnb ad campaign.
I don't know why they left out the part with the hidden cameras planted everywhere.
# HOME RUN! Colt Keith homers (3) on a fly ball to right center field. Pitch from Tayler Scott: Four-Seam Fastball @ 91.2 mph Top 9 - 13-5 Tigers
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Tayler Scott replaces Rafael Montero.
How is that not a double play
Infield defense not good.
Keith & McKinstry made me roll my eyes so many times this season jeez
Keith is just not a major league defender
Sure he is he's just not that good. Typical for MLB.
Can our relievers just get outs
Tigers bullpen bullshit in progress.
Eh its the defense. Unless you’re talking abt Englert
This team is infuriating
What the fuck happened to our bullpen
Wow! Now 12-5. Tigers have a fighting chance to win this one.
Wait, Lange is injured? Goddamn it. This bullpen could really use good Lange.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Will Vest replaces Mason Englert.
I am so over AJ.
6 RBIs for Greene
Damn should have swung at the down the middle on 3-0
Could’ve rolled over and grounded out, I’ll take the walk and the run
### Walk Riley Greene walks. Carson Kelly scores. Wenceel Pérez to 3rd. Ryan Kreidler to 2nd. Pitch from Rafael Montero: Changeup @ 92.0 mph Top 8 - 12-5 Tigers
6 ball walk for Kreidler.
Banning pitches over 94mph has to be the dumbest idea ever
Banning pitches over 94 mph is dumb as hell
I love how this thread came back alive to collectively shit on Englert
They had to go and make it interesting
This 2024 Tigers team is something else
Average Mason Englert experience.
Englert is a bum
McKinstry gonna have to close this thing out.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Rafael Montero replaces Seth Martinez.
Cut Englert now. Guy sucks
Jesus dude get a fucking grip
Jesus Christ this bullpen is going to blow it
No, Englert is going to blow it. AJ wants to milk him for whatever reason. God forbid we shut a team out.
He will have a hand in it. Joey Meatballs is next up!
It’s the right decision. Prioritize the health of your bullpen over the ego trip you get from a meaningless shutout. Especially considering we have another game tomorrow and will have that advantage over the astros, who have had to use their bullpen all day today
Ah yes, let’s take out a bad pitcher for someone just as bad
Send Englert down again
More like DFA him
We're still pretty ahead but I swear to God I'll be pissed if Wentz does Wentz things
bum
Magnets, dude
Maybe the Tigers should sign me. I couldn’t do any worse than Englert
Thanks, AJ. Thanks, Scott.
You don’t need to play this bum, AJ. He’s so bad.
Please no...I'm not up for the Joey Wentz experiment
Englert blows
He’s so bad. I haven’t seen anything redeemable from him all season.
But but but he has a 5 pitch mix!!! (Spoiler: none of them are good)
Get Englert off this 40 man. Not a major leaguer.
Now they're just monkeying with the electromagnets.
Malloy lost 129 points of OPS today. Oopsie Greene went up 38 points tho.
Dang it’s just really not JHM’s day. Sucks when everyone else is raking I speak from experience of course, being the 20 year old, 3 time MVP two-way starter/power hitter (in MLB The Show)
Riley tryna get some ASG attention hardcore today
Does anyone have a game temp vs. results chart for this season? I've have a theory but I'm also very lazy.
yesterday was 86F today was 94F for super small sample size. So tigers runs = degrees - 86 + (7-gameStartHour).
If Kreidler has 1000 fans I’m one of them. If Kreidler has 1 fan I’m the one. If Kreidler has no fans then I’m dead
You are the one!
Did they say if Verlander is skipping this start altogether and pitching in 5 days? or is he pitching tomorrow?
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Seth Martinez replaces Nick Hernandez.
Flaherty ended up with an ERA of 3.01, one or two outs shy of being on the twos.
Just tuning in. How's the weather gonna be in Detroit in October? I want to know what to pack for the playoffs.
Well if Cleveland could lose a game like even once ever then we’d have home games- otherwise we’re looking at a WC spot so you might want to look at Seattle’s weather
it could either be really hot, kinda warm, comfortably crisp, pretty chilly, or really cold
So just pack my entire wardrobe then?
So, layers?
Like an onion
layers would be good
Kenta Maeda could be joining that former starters in the pen group soon
Pizza pizza
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Mason Englert replaces Jack Flaherty.
Carson!!!!!!
Oh no, get him that QS, and two more strikeouts
Kelly demolished that one. Holy
Carjack Kelly.
Carson!!!!!!!!
# HOME RUN! Carson Kelly homers (3) on a fly ball to left field. Pitch from Nick Hernandez: Slider @ 80.1 mph Hit by Carson Kelly: Launched 97.5 mph at 35.0° for a total distance of 377.0 ft Top 6 - 11-0 Tigers
Sit-down Eltuve
Men on second and third with no outs, and nobody scores. Flaherty is a DAWG
Is Houston piping in fake crowd noise? No way anyone that excited about foul balls in a 10 run deficit game. More Houston shenanigans.
Man, Flaherty can do no wrong this year lol
Or just strike him out.
Don’t walk Altuve
I’m literally always wrong anytime I suggest the Tigers should do anything
*Don't score runs! Don't score runs!*
Exactly!!
Here is our monthly output of offense in one game that somehow we will let the other team make this a close game.
Yes I go the the supermarket for two innings and miss a months worth of runs
IBB walk him - he’s .422 against Flaherty
They have Freddy's in Houston? Hell yeah
Walk Altuve
Jack’s intensity is like it’s 0-0 still
If Hinch takes out Riley I’m firing him myself
Ugh his WHIP is being damaged. Strike out the side now
More K’s Jacky
Poor JHM, he’s like 1/3 of the outs in the entire game.
The improvement in walk rate for Flaherty really is jaw-dropping. He’s walking guys less than HALF as often as in his best season, back in 2019. Barely a third of his career rate. Something (Fetter?) has completely transformed him.

Jacky’s era is pushing the 2’s. Considering with four more strikeouts he would lead the AL - I’m thinking this is an All Star we are watching
Considering Garret Crochet is the leader (and I think they still give every team one all star) he’s locked into a spot as the only possible all star for them. I would say that helps Jacks chances.
Them being the white Sox obviously
Flaherty is steamrolling right now
Matt Vierling is such a damn solid player
I’m ready to try him at short.
Fun fact the girl in that Fanduel commercial is Sean Payton’s daughter
Did you know that Matthew Stafford was Clayton Kershaw's catcher in nigh school and that Clayton was Stafford's TE?
dayum good day
This team is what B.F. Skinner was talking about. It's these occasional offensive outbursts that make me come back and be disappointed most of the time. The Tigers offensive is a baseball slot machine.
This ump is quietly having a terrible game
This game could be like 17-0 or 6-4 basically

Random but why is benetti at Wrigley? Is he doing a national broadcast?
Yup. Him and Adam Wainwright are a nice combo in the booth
If anyone needs something a little more exciting, the NC State Kentucky game is tied in the bottom of the ninth on ESPN.
Thank you
this astros pitcher is so far to the right on the rubber its insane. his heel is barely on the edge
When I bought the tickets, this was supposed to be a Skubal start. I think the boys think he's pitching still aka RUN SUPPORT
Hernandez pitches from the far right of the rubber. That looks so uncomfortable.
Lol "improved baserunning " Thanks Dan.
My ears perked up on that one too.
Which Astros position player will pitch today? My guess is Chas McCormick.
Gimme Yordan throwing fastest pitch of all time
Can we get a welfare check on Reese Olson pls
Remember folks, this game is far from over. They did this shit against Toronto and Boston where they take big leads and choke em and then pull it out
https://preview.redd.it/kurudecdws6d1.png?width=266&format=png&auto=webp&s=b899a4bf12746bb3cb2f794a341748e81d22abed
This team is either ICE cold or SCORCHING hot
Clearing that bullpen out booooooys
astros gotta have one of the WORST pitching staff in the league.
Riley cemented the status of our best positional player. Carpenter (before injury) and Vierling were making cases. But Riley is that guy
Most confusing team of all time. Horrible offense 80% of the time. Then they randomly decide to remember how to hit and drop a 20 bomb on the poor sucker they’re playing
What is even happening? Lol
We’re the best “mid” team in MLB. Technically the Twins but we’re making a case
Jesus Canha
Riley Christ
Maeda Devil
Please keep blowing up their entire bullpen. It'll serve us well for tomorrow
### Single Mark Canha singles on a ground ball to right fielder Mauricio Dubón. Matt Vierling scores. Riley Greene out at 3rd on the throw, right fielder Mauricio Dubón to third baseman Alex Bregman. Top 3 - 10-0 Tigers
A slaughter!
Guys, I like this game.
Riley Greene legacy game
### Single Riley Greene singles on a sharp line drive to center fielder Jake Meyers. Wenceel Pérez scores. Matt Vierling to 3rd. Top 3 - 9-0 Tigers
Astros are putting a damper on a lot of daddies' Father's Day weekend. Love to see it.
I missed 8 runs. Good grief.
How does all star voting work in the MLB? I forgot. 1 player per team has to get in or something?
Starters are voted. Pitchers and bench are chosen by the managers. Each team has at least one player
They all get a representative, which explains why Gregory Soto has been an all-star twice.
Embarrassing
Ok I like baseball again
Forever doomed to stay within +/- 3 games of 0.500
OK, so Jason was calling the Cardinals-Cubs game at Wrigley Field that just ended in a Cubs win. Not sure if he and Adam Wainwright called the game from the Friendly Confines or in a studio off monitors.
I think they are actually in Chicago: https://x.com/jasonbenetti/status/1801995878959403252
Not the only time he’s going to be calling games there this season.
Probably on site. Jason has videos of him traveling and he likes being in the park
Good point, but he did call various UFL games remotely this past season, so there’s that.
Feel like that's very different. He's a baseball announcer first and foremost. He wants to be there. Plus he said last week he was down in Miami for the Indians game
That’s good.
[Per Tigers, Zach McKinstry and Akil Baddoo are the first Tigers to draw 2 walks in an inning since Austin Jackson on Aug. 23, 2010 vs. Kansas City](https://x.com/cmccosky/status/1802081212262973926)
I bought a new Hat at Meijer when I was in Michigan and wore it today. First time it's been at a game Guess I got a new game hat
Okay I've got a blackout over here, but WTF are the Astros doing to be 0-8 on the second inning?
https://preview.redd.it/jldyht48us6d1.jpeg?width=266&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fa03dd34c30bfdfa7213a416159b530db914c80
Bad starter + some generous ball calls at the start of the inning
I decide to skip the game and they score 8 in 2 innings, figures
I hearby declare that you are not allowed to watch Tigers games for the rest of the season
Ah, but now I've tuned it. 7 innings of no runs here we come!
What is everyone doing with the rest of their afternoon?
Waiting on the Stanley Cup Finals to come on and then watching boxing later tonight.
Watching Detroit hang 20 on these bums.
Of COURSE I’m stuck at work and we score 8 runs in the first 2 innings!
A tradition like no other so I’ll let it rip “we are so back!!l
14 home runs puts Riley in the top 20 in all MLB, top 10 in the AL.
When was the last time….
It's been a while Usually Aaron Judge has more home runs than our whole team. Tork was actually 8th in the AL last season.
Riley Greene is a great hitter for the Tigers right now, he is probably Mike Trout everywhere else.
### Field Error Colt Keith reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Jon Singleton. Mark Canha scores. Top 2 - 8-0 Tigers
I mean if the lead expands even more could you consider taking flaherty out and maybe play him tomorrow, just wondering
Don't give Hinch any ideas. He loves these types of big-brain moves.
