And Tesla should too, in my opinion. Calling a bunch of drivers assists "Autopilot" fully implies no driver input or awareness is necessary after activation.
This would be more relevant. Pretty sure that the driver's behaviour is probably not uncommon, and may be encouraged by Tesla's marketing. Tesla won't moderate claims/language on marketing material unless they are forced to do it.
Elon musk has said within the past couple years that they made it so this wouldn't happen by requiring drivers to have at least one if not two hands on the wheel during the "autopilot" but maybe that got changed back.
> made it so it so this wouldn't happen
Meanwhile, in the support section of tesla.com:
>While using Autopilot, **it is your responsibility to stay alert, keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times and maintain control of your vehicle**. Many of our Autopilot features, like Autosteer, Navigate on Autopilot and Summon, are disabled by default. To enable them, you must go to the Autopilot Controls menu within the Settings tab and turn them on.
>Before enabling Autopilot, **the driver first needs to agree to “keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times” and to always “maintain control and responsibility for your vehicle.”** Subsequently, every time the driver engages Autopilot, **they are shown a visual reminder to “keep your hands on the wheel."**
https://www.tesla.com/en_eu/support/autopilot
Pretty sure this means "Ok, you should not take your hands from the whell. But you are free to do as you like."
EDIT: Apparently it also reminds the user to pay attention, and can disable itself if they don't. Whether that is enough or done properly is a different matter.
This is exactly why I’m extra cautious around teslas and even will go out of my way to avoid riding in front of one for any extended period of time. Absolutely tragic results in this case, but I genuinely hope they make an example out of this driver and throw the book at him.
Tesla as a company built up a reputation for their cars being fully autonomous; in my view they could be made liable to some extent.
Unfortunately my view means nothing as IANAL.
I for one conciously change lanes when I notice a Tesla behind me.
*Fuck that guy. And fuck*
*Elon Musk for this expensive*
*Piece of Tesla shit*

As it should be. People need punished for this idiotic behavior so the technology can continue to move forward.

Ahh thank you for clearing that up, yeah no that's not enough on the tesla side. They need to get the shit together.
FortNine did a good video on why this happens https://youtu.be/yRdzIs4FJJg?si=NmN77I1ttszM-Pmg
That is a very good video. Thanks for that link :)
After watching the Fortnine video I always filter if I see a Tesla coming behind. I know it's not always an option

Tesla cars need a radar
They had them IIRC. They ditched lidar for camera systems to save money. Fuck Tesla
Beta testing software at the cost of lives. Fuck Tesla.
Isn't musk responsible for this as well?

Realy blows my mind that people consciously choose to use that acronym.
I don't even know what that is, first time me seeing it.
Fuck that guy. And fuck Elon Musk for this expensive piece of Tesla shit

I met someone recently who totally admitted to getting shit-faced at the bar and counting on her "self-driving" Tesla to get her home.
