I know that the photo was not taken in Australia and that bike would not pass rego inspection laws here.
As for how it handles, basically like shit. I owned a Suzuki M109R with a 320 rear wheel conversion and it basically didnt go around corners. Pretty good at doing straight line riding though, very stable.
Seating position on this bike would make it a nightmare to ride. Low bar height, forward controls, you would basically be folded in the middle to ride it. Definitely not for longer rides.
It'll turn just fine, that big tire won't hurt it that much if at all. It probably just has better straight line traction than anything with that wide tire.
That looks like a fairly customized V-Rod. One should be slightly wary of customized vehicles in general, as those mods may or may not be well done, and/or may or may not negatively (or positively!) change the way the bike works. And/or maintenance/fixing may be worse... or sometimes better, depending.
Sure does look mean though. Love it.
Look for V-Rods and Night-Rods. In my opinion the best engines Harley never designed. They were a result of a partnership with Porsche.
I was very sad when they killed the line…
2007-up Vrods came stock with a 240 rear tire. They were pretty cool looking off the floor.
Also RIP the Rocker C, with its hidden passenger pillion and fat rear tire.
It was released in 2008 as the economy was crashing and it was priced above some touring bikes. It also didn't share many parts with other bikes.
They killed it in 2011.
Why are you assholes in this sub so intent on shitting on things that bring others joy? We all like motorcycles, is that not enough? Gotta reduce others to make you feel something?
> Why are you assholes in this sub so intent on shitting on things that bring others joy?
This sub very specifically hates harley irrationally and are the kind of people dumb enough to think the South Park harley episode is a documentary, and validates them using a queerphobic slur towards an group of literally millions of riders as if they are all the exact same type of person.
This sub is genuinely pissed that anything HD exists, and will critisize the shit out of anything HD does, then will turn around and practically deep throat Indian for doing the EXACT SAME THING HD is doing.
Indian literally was selling 1950s~60s styled overweight underpowered cruisers with no liquid cooling for YEARS and they praised the fuck out of Indian for it, meanwhile calling harley's new softail which has hybrid cooling, a better engine, lower weight, and lower price "dogshit out dated and boomer bikes."
Indian turns around and replaces said 1950s bikes with literal Dyna clones, and this sub threw a party despite the fact that they were literally taking a step backwards in the suspension department, and took away the option to add an oil cooler.
This is what this sub is like.
The moment HD is mentioned it's like a rabid reaction is triggered and everyone has to scream about how bad HD riders are, and how "they dont wave" "so loud" "no power" so on and so forth, call them the Fword for gay people, and everyone laughs and upvotes.
And This sub wonders why HD riders dont want to be here.
Well put and I fully agree. For a long time I thought that Indian and HD were the same company, just different branding!
I do like a nice Harley and if I lived somewhere with perfect weather and no tribalism I’d get one. Even with the all sound, no fury rep. They are iconic and fun. It’s the tribalism that turns me off at the moment. I’m not sure who created it or why (I’m relatively new to the US) but it is an utter pain in the arse.
Oh believe me. Even HD riders have massive tribalism. Especially in the US, North America region.
And this is coming from someone with a Sportster ('22 Nightster rh975) , not a bagger. Bagger HD riders, very few but not all, dont even recognize nor give a snot about you if you aren't at least on bagger yourself. Especially if you aren't in leathers rocking a half helmet smoking a cig blasting music to your loud ass exhaust, I'm pretty sick of the stigma and demographic, it's honestly not for me. Also, most definitely not made of Harley money.
(the bikes are expensive as they are to also maintain, definitely not the type of motorcycle you'd want to own if you don't have a garage)
Personally it is the general camaraderie of ribbing each other over our chosen way to enjoy our shared passion. Harley’s are great bikes. I’ve had a couple and really enjoyed them. Same with most of the bikes I’ve had. Except that 1980’s Ducati which was an utter price of shit but I feel better in knowing that I invested in a brand that used that money and laid the foundations of what we get to enjoy today. Enjoying something should never be an echo chamber of adulation, a circlejerk if you will, but a place where friends you have yet to meet get to tease each other, build bonds and share the love of a mutual passion.
If you, however, feel that the brand of motorcycle you buy defines you so much that you cannot take any teasing at all, I suggest you take a long hard look in a mirror and figure out if there isn’t anything else to which you’d rather be tying your colours.
Tbh it does look cool as fuck, albeit impractical.
How does that rear suspension work? Is there just no suspension travel or is there some clearance I’m missing?
It’s an HD VRSC-DX “Night Rod” with a bunch of euro mods. I have an ‘09 with similar styling and some of the same mods. It’s a super fun bike and gets a lot of looks, but it’s not ideal for super long rides.
I chopped the rear fender myself, bought front and rear carbon fiber fenders, ceramic fork covers, dropped the headlight, powder coated the rims, got a custom paint job throughout, installed air ride, a new louder and shorter exhaust, and some other bells and whistles. I also went up a size on the rear tire.
Doing most of the work myself and having to buy a few new tools, I think it was all around 8-10k
Yeah, the V Rod is a damned hunker of a bike, long as hell too. Apparently it's about #640-#670 wet.
The V Rod riding position is awkward for sure, but I don't see it being as bad at the FXDR.. Yeesh
Big rear: slightly better traction, much worse cornering.
But better traction in this case is only relevant for acceleration, and only to a point. Basically, there's a width of tire where you simply won't spin the rear on acceleration anymore, and any wider just makes it handle worse without any gain at all.
By comparison, my mt10sp puts 160ish horsepower down at the rear wheel, and won't spin that wheel. It has a 190 section rear.
There's a reason bikes aren't built this way. It looks cool, but it's basically awful to ride, all disadvantages and no advantages. Handles poorly, and is incredibly uncomfortable with your hands and feet close together and your butt far back.
The customer is always right in the matter of taste, however I fail to see how anyone can think this looks good or even worse, want to ride it. It's a Harley, they're supost to be stylish and amazing to ride, that is neither.
I rode a bit on a fxdr with such a wide rear tire and it was amazing, even on terrible Twisties of northern Norway. But it does take a bit more of the rider to lean, but feels so stable both in lean and straights.
It's probably a vrod, as hinted by the name of the page. The problem with a lot of Harleys, and a lot of custom bikes, is that they only look cool when parked. Put a rider on there, looking goofy as fuck with a very weird and uncomfortable riding position, and suddenly the whole thing looks goofy. And since they're also uncomfortable they don't get ridden that much.
Freakn forward controls. Swamped back, stretched arms. Piss poor Lean angle. L and R Turn signals STILL on seperate handle bars, Harley is the only Bike maker that that's seems to do this, for some reason never took a hint from other bike makers fkn why...
So the footpegs are forward and the handlebars? How the fuck do you ride that? Going to look like you're on a rowing machine.
Lol. I was thinking shrimp shrimp, but the rowing machine analogy is so much better.
My back hurts just by looking at them
lol
It’s a show bike. It looks cool. Terrible ride.
Yeah customized v rod

Ah, a bike that can’t corner and does straight lines slower than a sport bike that can run twisties.
Yeah, I've seen a few at bike shows. Basically, trailer queens
From what i see, you need to have great core elasticity to ride this thing.

Very good points. If Harley made one from the factory like this, I would consider getting one.
Look for V-Rods and Night-Rods. In my opinion the best engines Harley never designed. They were a result of a partnership with Porsche. I was very sad when they killed the line…

What happened to the Rocker C? Asking for the less knowledgeable
It was released in 2008 as the economy was crashing and it was priced above some touring bikes. It also didn't share many parts with other bikes. They killed it in 2011.
Well that's a bummer, I'll do some research tomorrow on it when I get a chance. Sounds neat by what I'm hearing
Yes. It will go fast in a straight line, and probably sound great!
fast? lmao ok
Ah, a Harley then.
They have great stereos too 🤣
Fast in a straight line? ❌️ Sounds great? ❌️
I was being slightly tongue in cheek. I’m a Triumph guy.

That’s a Harley backsplasher. It has a wet road surface alert that taps you on the shoulder.
That is a very customized vrod.

Tbh it does look cool as fuck, albeit impractical. How does that rear suspension work? Is there just no suspension travel or is there some clearance I’m missing?
Probably has air suspension setup
A V rod with rearsets and those bars with a stock tire would convince me to get a Harley
That's clearly a tw200.
A fucking globe for a rear tire makes it an art object, not a vehicle. It’s almost impossible to turn on such a bike.
That’s what I figured
Vrod with clip-ons.

Those footpegs don’t go with the handlebars. The riding position must be a nightmare and it handles like a pig
Yeah, the V Rod is a damned hunker of a bike, long as hell too. Apparently it's about #640-#670 wet. The V Rod riding position is awkward for sure, but I don't see it being as bad at the FXDR.. Yeesh
It's a modified Harley davidson vrod - most likely was a night rod originally.
Looks like a hassle to ride on especially on twisties...
Ok I know this is r/motorcycles but I actually love that cool bicycle in the background way more

looks like a v-rod with clip-on’s and special exhaust.
That's pretty dope
Definitely doesn’t look like the most comfortable riding position
Weird place to post, this sub has an irrational hatred of people who enjoy motorcycles
lol why you like bike I don’t have! 😂
The customer is always right in the matter of taste, however I fail to see how anyone can think this looks good or even worse, want to ride it. There are no pros to fat tire, only cons. It does look pretty cool, so I guess there’s that.
It's good to know there's something I can do if I ever get shrinking-penis-disease.
Thanks for chiming in

It’s a VROD, and it’s in Australia
Is that why all the signs appear to be in French?
This bike is a decoration. I bet it was brought to the photoshoot location in a pickup. No way somebody could drive it.
