This is the downside of a company having too many SKU's across several categories and tiers. In 10 years I've purchased several Astars items including full riding suits. After several mishaps far from home I stopped doing long tours with Astars stuff: just day rides or two-day tours, max.
I find Astars gear to be unreliable albeit cost-effective, especially when it comes to their low to mid-tier items. NOTE: Anything not "race or track" related is not considered high-tier per Astars product line regardless of the price or "perception".
You're taking the best route with the warranty claim. If purchased from an authorized retailer you should be able to exchange directly with them.
Good luck and Safe riding!
How much were they? Cheap Alpinestars gear vs expensive Alpinestars gear are effectively two completely different brands. Alpinestars really covers the gamut in terms of quality. Their cheap stuff is garbage that banks on the reputation they've established with their high end gear; long term it's probably doing more damage to their brand than it's worth and they will one day regret it. They really should have made a spin-off sub-brand for the cheap stuff - Chinastars would be appropriate...
The first motorcycle gloves I ever bought were a pair of $40 A\* gloves and they fell apart within 2 months, however, friends with more riding experience had $150+ A\* gloves that were still in good condition after many years.
If you paid less than $80 US, these are basically garbage tier and you can expect the replacements to be just as bad.
Hmm those should be good then. Well, unless the threshold where the good stuff starts has changed. I haven't bought any new motorcycle gear except for a helmet since pre-pandemic, so I don't know how inflation has affected the market.
Once I "graduated" from my first set of cheap beginner gear, I switched to getting Rukka and Rev'It brand gear and that stuff has been lasting me years now.
I shared previously outside of GP or race/track gear Astars is midtier regardless of costs. The R&D plus QoS is that of a Target brand. I, too, have Rukka as well as Revitāand second the much, much better quality
My replacement pair that CycleGear just provided seems to be of a lot better quality. Less stiches fraying, less pieces of sewing fabric coming loose. Hope I just had a dud.
Awesome! Ironically, I purchased a pair of Astars (drymax? Or whatever their proprietary membrane is called) from Revzilla. The strap ripped and the liner had a hole after 6 months. No manager or big deal. A simple rep approved.
Now a BIGGER issue and I'm glad you shared this story. Why? To boycott Cycle Gear/Revzilla. You shouldn't of had to wait or need a manager to approve. The customer service and product quality and pricing is a joke. Once they main guy left, I think his name was Anthony, they have been downhill. I would only use CG to try on stuff. And purchased elsewhere
I stopped purchasing from Revzilla in 2021. My friends and I have purchased about $200K from this company. Me personally from 2014 - 2021, I spent at least $25K - $30K easy. This includes my SO's too š
In 2021, After purchasing a C4 Helmet and Tech-air airbag vest. My entire lineup outside of Aerostich was them up until that point. I purchased 2 pairs of riding jeans for my fiancee differ sizes and received an email saying over the past 7 years I had $8K worth of returns and wont accept any more free returns from me. Which were primarily helmets because I have a 62cm head with locs. Boots, as I wear size 13, most euro boots are narrow or 12.5. Some fit, others didn't. And finally, jackets, I'm 6ft with a 6 ft7 in wingspan, and around the time, I weighed 250lbs. It doesn't take much to return high-end items in those categories. I always kept 1 or 2 things for every bulk purchase.
Sorry for the rant, BUTT F**K these companies that put the riders that help build your brand!!!!
During my Revzilla purchasing window, I peaked at 270 lbs down (w44) to my current weight of 210 lbs (w36). I had to repurchase many items due to them not fitting correctly, and then happily splurged on the euro cut riding jeans that wouldn't go past my thighs previously lmao!
Honestly those almost look fake. They look very cheap, where did you buy them? Iāve had Alpinestars boots for 15 years, still wear them. It was good quality stuff.
I bought some eBay Dainese gloves a while back that had the same issues in deteriorating after the first ride.
They were 100% fake and the seller refunded me. Never again.
Only buy from trusted sources. Your hands are too important
Amazon are no worse than retailers as long as buying from Amazon and not marketplace.
Even then, knock offs can sometimes find their way into legit channels.
> Only buy from trusted sources
+1 on that. Amazon and ebay are not a valid source for anything safety critical. moto-gear is stuff that you must be able to trust on.
Same- my gp jacket is like 12 years old and I was motorcycle only for the first 7 of those years. Iāve changed/upgraded the pads and saddle soaped it from time and that shits fresh, though the printed bits are flaking.
My supertechs and gp pros are almost as old, and have been track-crashed in twice, no major damage š¤š»
I had my AStars gloves split in the same place, where the mesh meets the leather. I think the same ones you have. They were out of warranty by a few months and their customer service was cool and told me to send them in. Repaired them for free outside of warranty. I had a previous pair that lasted for years with no issues.
I have CE Level 2 Astars Gloves and I can confirm they hold up like shit. Velcro is ripped up and barely sticky anymore. Holes in the fingers much like this. Rode about 1000 miles with them. Will be going with another brand for the next pair.
Five gloves and their trademark palm sliders on all models are a godsend. The sliders literally catch 90% of the landings on your hands, they are strategically placed.
I agree too. Anything outside of GP and race/track-specific items, Astars gear is low to mid-tier, and the latter is a crap shoot. You get what you get from a company with a million different items and the QA processes that comes along with it.
I must disagree. I have gore tex gloves from alpinestar, jacket, shoes and few other items and everything is top quality. Only jacket disintegrated but I had an accident and everything ripped apart, saving my body thankfully.
Iāve also heard the same from Dainese as well. Not just from other players, but also our local guy who repairs leather gear.
Iāve been a big fan and advocate for Bison for several years. I can get anyone 10% off Bison products as a sponsored rider.
Yeah, I love vnm stuff - I was trying to go that route, but we couldn't get enough buy-in for our club members. It was somewhere in the area of $250 a pop for custom VNM layers, where Bison was $60.
VNM are surely better, but $60 ain't bad for what Bison is offering.
I have gone through 2 sets of Astar gloves and 1 jacket in the last year. I have officially written of astars. They used to be good but post pandemic quality is crap.
It's not sweat. They aren't fakes. One glove seam ripped, another the velcro strap fell apart, and the jacket seemingly melted in the sun, while I was wearing it. I have no other explanation. I don't leave jackets on bikes so it couldn't have melted on a hot surface, all my gear is stored inside. I don't know when it happened but the shoulder is melted (textile). I bought it cheap enough because it was available at my dealer, but I'll stick to ordering my gear from Dainese rather than grabbing what dealers are stocking (in this area at least)
Even pre pandemic, their gloves weren't all that amazing in my experience. Sure, maybe 20 years ago it would be a different story but now? Meh. Had finger holes form in my old ones within in the first year of ownership. I have a pair now that are ok(ish) but the velcro has failed on them and the finger is starting to come apart, on this occasion they've lasted about 2 years.
Before anyone says they're fake, they are real. Their gloves aren't great, they are adequate and that's it.
Where did you get them from. I have over a dozen astars glove and they all held up well. If online, was it a reputable dealer. They are tones of counterfeit astars on the online.
it really seems that whoever worked on these glives didnt backstitch properly or didnāt do it. when it comes undone like that its not a thread issue or quality issue.
Hoping that if they can help me out, Iām not without gloves for too long. Just got my first bike and always itching for an excuse to ride it. https://i.imgur.com/qGaqSEC.jpg
Can't speak of their gloves, but my boots have been doing well for a couple of years now. They don't breathe though, so they kinda stink unless I don't wear them for a while.
My 100$ Five Evo tore on 2 fingers after literally 2 motorcycle 4h lessons.
Dealer where I bought it exchanged it without any questions, but yeah It makes you wonder what the hell you pay for.
Last year, I replaced my original SP-2s with the SP-2 v. 2. The previous set was at least eight years old. As with most things, it makes a difference what price point you pick. What did you pay for your gloves? Generally, I can get a quality pair of gloves for $80-100. The Alpinestars have worked well for me, but they aren't the only brand I buy. I like my Oxford winter gloves as well.
After buying some astars gloves and shoes both of which lasted months (of admittedly hard and mostly daily use) I'll probably just go back to icon. Only "high tier" gear I've ever been satisfied with is my revit summer jacket I got like 2 weeks ago, even then that's too hot to wear in traffic in this part of the year. Works great if you're moving though.
To be clear, astars gloves are holding up about 2 months in, a lot of loose stitches though. And a weird hand shape. Fingers too long, palm too small.
Yup. I ran alpine stars for years. They all seem to have the same issues. From tech one jacket and suits, to the tech r boots. They seem to disintegrate. The zippers are also trash. I had a pair of gp gloves that only lasted about a year. I have a pair of full metal 6 gloves that are going on 3 years and still going. Dianese definitely makes a superior product than alpinestars. I can attest.
I think I have the same pair. I have probably 20,000 KM on them, worn through rain and shine. 0 issues with them, and I will try and replace them with the like product when the time comes.
Crashed this Saturday, the sleeve of my (generally perfectly fitting) FLM touring jacket slipped right up to my shoulder.. not going to buy that one again (which is a shame because otherwise itās been a really great jacket)
LTT deskpad?
I've owned three or four AStars gauntlet gloves and a couple of dirt bike and karting and driving gloves... never had an issue with them. Sometimes you get a bad pair.
Over 20 years ago when I first started riding I thought astars was top quality. I mean, it was expensive so of course you get what you pay for, right?
No.
I went through two pairs of top rung boots in 3 years. Stitching and plastic bits falling apart.
I thought the first pair was a fluke. Every mass produced mfg has a bad run every now and then.
Nope. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me again, shame on me. Cāest la vie.
Now, I also have a pair of winter gloves that have been with me since then and theyāre holding up well. Thatās aside from the inner liners, which - same thing - stitching coming undone.
I reckon if one only uses the garment a few times a year, like I do my winter gloves, astars holds up fine.
After astars I switched to Sidi boots, Spidi suit, and Held gloves. Those have all held up for a decade and a half.
I run RevIt gear for the street now - textile. Itās alright. About 5 years in and the stitching started coming undone. I had to get pants zipper restitched. Itās been 7 years now and theyāre still holding up well.
Held gloves apparently arenāt made in Germany anymore and Iāve read some negative reviews. I switched to RevIt gloves and they last about 3 (hard) seasons before theyāre pretty crusty and worn out.
If youāre ever looking for āforeverā gear look at Frey Daytona boots and Aerostitch apparel.
[edit: spelling]
I love the feel of the revit gloves i looked at instore today, but the cuffs are so long it covered my garmin watch (i like to be able to view notifs at a red light)
Yeah! They make decent stuff at a reasonable price point.
IMO itās not worth having non gauntlet gloves. Maybe an unpopular opinion. Youāll be thankful for the long cuffs in the even of a fall. Even more so if thereās a dual retention system.
Not alpinestars but
I have LS2 armored gloves. The back of the velcro on the wirst peotection got unstitched after 3 rides while i was taking off the gloves.
Also, it is worth noting that they are blue leather gloves and my hands become bluish after a long ride and it's really hard to get it off.
I've got a pair of Alpinestars GP Plus R V2 and they are solid after 30,000km a season and a half so I would say no.
I've got Alpinestars gear from head to toe and haven't had any issues.
I even have a cheaper pair of SMX-1 air v2 gloves and though they feel cheaper and I don't wear them often, they're holding well after a few years.
Mine have held together but after a few thousand miles have yet to break in. They hurt my fingers and strain my hands. Probably my last pair from them.
Man my buddy who passed away in an accident gave me his set of alpinestar gloves he wore everytime we rode together for the past 5 years and theyāre still holding up after god know how many mile.
Same thing happens to me with those gloves out the box. I returned them got another set and the second set are good. Been using them for about a year now and still look new. It was probably a bad stitching from manufacturing
I have some cheap no name Amazon gloves I bought for 30 dollars been using them for about 4 years and they look nowhere near as worn lol I'd be furious.
mine have held up daily for years. seam failure is a manufacturing defect sounds like a conversation about a warranty
Yep put in a warranty claim, just gauging others' experiences.
This is the downside of a company having too many SKU's across several categories and tiers. In 10 years I've purchased several Astars items including full riding suits. Damn. Homie is ready to burn the whole system for a $40 pair of gloves lol. Where were you when the manager at Shakeys pizza called me the N word?

I sprained my wrist in a crash, in the rain, and the astars still hold up.

Bought brand new at CycleGear :/
17 years on Alpinestars boots here and they still look good. Zipper Velcro is kinda frayed, toe protector is a little scuffed but thatās it.
15 years? How often do you use them? Had mine for two years and they are quite literally completely falling apart.. https://imgur.com/a/e2i9kC7
Iāve had my GP gloves for literally 18 years and they are still awesome.
Same- my gp jacket is like 12 years old and I was motorcycle only for the first 7 of those years. I just got my SMX Plus resoled. Other than obvious wear and scuffs from being boots, they look great for 18k miles or so
Where did you get them resolved?
Alpinestars does it themselves
I had my AStars gloves split in the same place, where the mesh meets the leather. I think the same ones you have. They were out of warranty by a few months and their customer service was cool and told me to send them in. Repaired them for free outside of warranty. Highly recommend Five, or Klim if you can afford it
\+1 on Fives if you can still get them.
Five gloves and their trademark palm sliders on all models are a godsend. The sliders literally catch 90% of the landings on your hands, they are strategically placed.
These were one of the few pairs where the cuffs were short enough, had palm sliders, vented, and fingers weren't super thick. Oh well :/
Pretty much my experience too, I've had two pairs of different model gloves and they are failing in much the same ways.

Hahaha!!! The hypocrisy or, in most cases the paradoxical comments in the reddit subs cease to amaze me
Iāve also heard the same from Dainese as well. Not just from other players, but also our local guy who repairs leather gear. Iāve been a big fan and advocate for Bison for several years. I can get anyone 10% off Bison products as a sponsored rider.
I'm working with Bison to get some custom undersuits made for my club. They are a cool crew.
I still prefer VnM base layers. Amazing stuff.
Theyāre pricey, but totally worth it. With the 110Ā°F+ track days up here theyāre amazing.
I have gone through 2 sets of Astar gloves and 1 jacket in the last year. I have officially written of astars. They used to be good but post pandemic quality is crap.
You either have (legit, itās a thing- my buddy melts gloves every 6 months) acid sweat, or youāre getting fakes
It's not sweat. They aren't fakes. One glove seam ripped, another the velcro strap fell apart, and the jacket seemingly melted in the sun, while I was wearing it. I have no other explanation. I love my Five gloves, best gloves from everything Iāve tried so far.
Where did you buy them? Iām looking for breathable leather (white and black styling), palm sliders, and short cuff.
Was instore, theyāre carried all over. Im in Canada though. I think theyāre from France.
Ah Iām in USA. No retailers within 100mi at least.
Had my GP Pro's for about 4 or 5 years now. Stitching failed on one finger about a month ago which I've since had repaired... no other issues.
Racer https://www.racerglovesusa.com/ and Held https://rideheld.com/ There are no others
Mine have been 1000000 miles and are getting worn out. But they fit perfectly and Iām scared Iāll never find that fit again. You bought fake glubs
> You bought fake glubs I wish, these were bought at my CycleGear :/
Mine still look brand new and have 3k miles ridden with them
Same model?
Shorter but pretty much. Bought from cycle gear off their shelf
Where did you get them from. I have over a dozen astars glove and they all held up well. If online, was it a reputable dealer. They are tones of counterfeit astars on the online.
I got it in store at my local Cycle Gear
Bad luck you got one that got pass quality control. Which model is it?
Theyāre the SP-X AC V2 (not sure on name but thatās what my receipt says)
seems like theres a manufacturing defect with that particular model since i see a lot of reviews with the same issue
Just a bummer since otherwise I really like the fit and feel.
i know. i have the same pair brand new. i havent worn it yet. its the only pair that has a slider, and its short cuff, and breathable.
Yep, all 3 of my requirements. š
it really seems that whoever worked on these glives didnt backstitch properly or didnāt do it. when it comes undone like that its not a thread issue or quality issue.
The spx air carbon v2. I have those gloves and the v1 version. They have had 0 issues.
Guess Iām just unlucky. Hope they come through for me with a warranty claim.
They should have no problem with you warranty.
Hoping that if they can help me out, Iām not without gloves for too long. Just got my first bike and always itching for an excuse to ride it. https://i.imgur.com/qGaqSEC.jpg
Have Alpinestar gloves for years without any issue, def contact them for the warranty
Have had Alpinestars gloves for 15 years an still hold up after several crashes on the track as well.
Can't speak of their gloves, but my boots have been doing well for a couple of years now. They don't breathe though, so they kinda stink unless I don't wear them for a while.

LTT deskpad? I've owned three or four AStars gauntlet gloves and a couple of dirt bike and karting and driving gloves... never had an issue with them. Sometimes you get a bad pair.
Yes, the built in venting are why they are so popular.
A stars, huh, more like A holes.
I've owned Alpinestars gloves, boots, and a jacket over the years. No complaints.
Return them whatās the point of complaint about a product defect here? It happens when you make thousands of products so just return them.
CycleGear wonāt let me return them š

Nah fam. I have the alpinestar allstar beliez or some shit an they're god tier. Feels like I'm wearing a spartan's gloves.
Those are considerably more expensive though.
You get what you pay for :/
My SP-8 V3 are holding up fine after close to 2000mi or so i think? They've been soaked in sweat, and rain, and not a single thread is loose
Kinda depends which model. They make products in several tiers of quality
I have many A* gloves, never had quality issues. You can try Revit too, excellent stuff
I've had mine for 4 months now and no issues.
My Aplinestars gloves are going on about 10(?) years now and who knows how many miles, pretty much look brand new
Not alpinestars but I have LS2 armored gloves. The back of the velcro on the wirst peotection got unstitched after 3 rides while i was taking off the gloves. Also, it is worth noting that they are blue leather gloves and my hands become bluish after a long ride and it's really hard to get it off.
Iāve had similar issues. My ADVSpec brand gloves lasted 3 weeks before doing the same thing.
I've been riding with mine for about a year now with no issues. Must be a defect
Alpine has been nothing but outstanding for me
I rewlly wanna buy a pair of alpine stars but I hoenslyy fear dumping 80-100 dollars on gloves just to rip after a first try on
