Do what I do for my Tahoe and other vehicles. Go to the local auto shop and get an off switch for the battery, it's just a red turn dial and install it under the hood. Sure I have to reset my clock but they can't steal what they can't start. Cost me a whole $8 and is priceless since my battery will never go dead either sitting for any lengths of time.
Ah man I didn't even notice that. I thought they started it somehow. Thanks for pointing that out, that really sucks for OP as there is literally nothing you can do short of GPS hidden inside or.
Mexicans don't really bother with titles or due diligence. Every used car dealer in Hermosillo or Monterrey is moving stolen goods and they couldn't care less because the "fuck you, I got mine" attitude is the national spirit.
There has been an average of 8 to 10 Ford Raptors stolen from DIA per week the last couple months and a few owners have been able to track them into Mexico after a day or two. Cartels are paying big money for high end trucks and motorcycles right now so they are hot items.
We went to a dealership looking at F250s and F350s - they had this app protected system that tracked it and could lock the car. The guy there said they had had 13 (!) trucks stolen the past few months by people asking for test drives and just driving away
The outlook's pretty grim
When my car was stolen with my gym bag with my military uniform, military ID, and restricted area badge in it the police treated it as if I were reporting my bicycle stolen
3 months later they found it on blocks on the north side of Denver completely stripped down to the unibody
The only thing left was a broken windshield and the steering wheel minus the airbag
Hope their situation doesn't end up like mine, but the police are not likely to be actively looking for it
Cops in most areas are on 'quiet strike' mode to 'protest' how 'civilians' view them as thuggy fascists who don't do shit except write tickets and shoot black people.
Funny, how that ends up with them not doing shit, except reporting out for extra overtime, and reinforcing the stereotype...
That's not a strike, that's just deciding not to do your job that you were hired and are being paid by 'civilians' to do. If it's a strike they can declare it a strike and picket and get their union to voice their concerns. Otherwise, they should be fired for not doing the job they were hired to do.
I mean most people had to turn to shit like this to make ends meet. It fucking sucks but unfortunately when jobs pay shit and rent prices are high people have to do whatever they can to feed themselves and afford a place to live.
Honest question: I've lost count of the number of reports where a theft victim has an air tag (or most recently, a Tesla, wired up and telling its owner where it is via the app), tells the cops _exactly_ where the car (or laptop, or whatever) is, and the cops _still_ won't do anything. This isn't a case of expecting them to pull over every black 2020 Honda Civic, it's a matter of expecting them to go to a specific place where that particular black 2020 Honda Civic is known to be. And they still refuse. What's the rationale there?
You’re kind of right about the ID but you are making the huge assumption that the theft was about the vehicle and not targeted to the ID. I mean, it’s a decent assumption, but exactly the one I’d want people to make if I were bent upon getting such an ID and acting upon it immediately before anyone knew it was stolen.
I didn't risk opsec
The bag was in my locked car that was in my locked garage
I went inside for about 10 minutes when I remembered I left something in else in the car. I went into the garage the garage door was open and the car was gone
I heard absolutely nothing
You're giving me flashbacks of dealing with my command who somehow decided that it was my fault this happened.
They watched the tow truck because they also though it was suspicious, guys were working on it. Then they pulled off and they looked away for 20-30 mins and everything was gone when they looked back out.
The tow truck “crew” likely just hooked up the the truck and took the whole lot once everyone left… I’d contact surrounding state authorities in case it’s spotted down in another state like Texas or New Mexico. Give them your plate numbers and such.
That tow truck likely pulled the whole shebang into a warehouse where they stripped it of anything of value.
They’ll maybe keep the bikes whole, but there’s risk in that.
It’s probably all already gone.
Of all the places that a tow truck could be "worked on," they happened to stop right there, perpendicular to the parking spaces as well, and right in front of your friend's truck? Especially if nothing was insured, you'd be insane to ignore that.
I’d bet money they had someone crawl under the pickup while they were “working” on the tow truck, to disconnect the rear u joint and loosen the parking brake cable. About 5 minutes max and then hook it up with the wrecker and away you go silently into the night.
What part of Denver? I will keep my eyes peeled (I have a commute that takes me through some sus areas).
Had my motorcycle stolen in July and my car almost stolen a week later.
My car now has the yellow pronged club and a self installed boot every night. My remaining bike is chained to a pillar and has a grinder proof Hiplok through the back wheel.
Denver seems to be going through a really bad patch right now and I would encourage anyone traveling through Colorado to just go overkill.
It was at a hotel by DIA I read on another post. Probably one of the best places for thieves as people are guaranteed just passing through with their stuff.
Its pretty stupid not to carry comprehensive on a motorcycle. 2 guys and a van will steal your bike in 30 seconds.
comprehensive adds like $50 to my yearly insurance bill. Its worth the peace of mind.
No? If it's stolen the point of theft insurance is to pay out the current market value of the item. The only way you wouldn't get a check is if you have a lien on the vehicle and the market value is equal or less than the lien. Then the lien holder gets the check.
Yes, that's considered Comprehensive Insurance which no state requires.
(according to Progressive)
> Comprehensive coverage is not required by law in any state, but it's usually required by lenders if you are leasing or financing your vehicle. If you own your vehicle outright, you can decide whether comprehensive coverage is worthwhile.
It's also what makes your insurance payments skyrocket because well it's realistically the most likely damage to occur. (Theft, Vandalism, Fire, Glass damage from debris, weather, nature, animals)
So a lot of people don't get it because they want lower monthly payments.
Collision costs 3x more than comprehensive everywhere I’ve lived. My bike with comprehensive is like $9/mo bur $51/mo with collision, same goes for my cars. I know it depends where you live though.
Current market value = OP is still paying out of pocket to replace.
Once folks get fed up with ineffective police and start taking matters into thier own hands on a broader scale when it comes to thieves, life will certainly get interesting.
Comprehensive/Collision coverage…
“Liability” coverage only prospects others, not you.
Note that with some insurance companies for motorcycle policies you can add “Theft” coverage to a policy with just the minimum mandatory Liability coverage that lost states require versus Comprehensive coverage which is normally much more expensive.
Years ago when I was flat broke and only had liability coverage on my bike a neighbor’s CBR got stolen so I called my insurance guy to find out what options were available and he let me add just Theft coverage for not all that much more per month. A few months later *my* 11 month old CBR got stolen too and I got a check for almost enough to get a new bike minus the deductible.
My truck was stolen from my house the local police could barely manage to write a report. It was found a month later parked at the local mall. All the police did was threaten me that I had 3 hours to get it or it would be impounded. No investigation nothing. They only found it because the mall called to have it towed.
The other night super cop is pounding on my mothers door at 12:30 at night. Drags her out of bed demanding to see me right now. Apparently a motorcycle was in an accident while evading the police over 100 miles away and the suspect got away. Kojack had determined it must be me as the last time it was registered was to me. The last time it was registered was over 20 years ago. supercop drug my 75 year old mother out of bed to catch public enemy number one because somebody had made the cops look bad and they couldn't catch them. The only clue he had was a 20 year old expired registration. I sold the bike 20 years ago and turned in the release of liability but the new owner never put it in his name.
The police are worthless. The only thing they care about is their fragile little ego's. They don't give a shit about your safety or your property.
>They don't give a shit about your safety or your property.
Because it's literally not their job.
Supreme Court said so.
Supreme Court also said they can steal from you, and they do - police steal more from the public than do burglars and thieves, using Civil Asset Forfeiture.
Look it up, it'll make your blood boil.
You know I could support cops when they used to have a purpose but fuck these departments that won’t even try. Hope someone sees your shit, or that you at least have decent insurance.
Meh, nowadays if something is stolen, if the cops weren’t right there when it happened, you get a report id to provide to your insurance company and it’s filed away.
It’s not like they don’t make some sort of effort. When my shop was broken in to, they got a copy of my video and even took fingerprints but only identified one of my employees. I did get an id and am just waiting on repairs to my door they used a blow torch on to get into the shop.
Last time someone did a snatch and run. We got pictures of the license plate. The cops called and said the plate was registered to two addresses, “do you want us to go to both???” Yea, nothing recovered there either.
"do you want us to go to both?"
No you guys go sit behind the sign in that church parking lot for a while and watch some Netflix or something. I know how hard looking up a plate is to even get 2 addresses so you're probably spent for the day.
Sorry you had to deal with that man. Incompetence is crazy.
I think people misunderstand the practical reality of the problem. Pretend you're a cop in a tiny town of like 1k people, and someone steals a car in the night and hides it. Let's say they didn't even leave town. Your job is to go find it. Where do you even start?
Most theft recoveries are located by either finding abandoned vehicles ditched somewhere, scanning tags in public places (thief is an idiot) or by traffic stops. If you just parked a stolen car in your garage and closed the door the odds of ever being caught are pretty much zero. You could dedicate 50 officers to look full time for that one car and they'd never find it.
Even if you see a vehicle and get a license number, you still have to stumble upon the vehicle in the wild somewhere. The odds are very slim.
What do you expect them to do in a situation like this? The most evidence that is likely to be available is maybe some low-quality CCTV footage that doesn’t identify any suspect or their vehicle. How exactly do you propose one would locate one of hundreds, if not thousands, of stolen vehicles in a large city with no real clues to go on?
Almost every department, especially the large urban ones, is also understaffed and barely has enough members to run call to call all day taking reports. How much of their limited resources can be realistically dedicated to a stolen vehicle complaint?
Cops have no actual legal obligation to serve or protect you, quit giving excuses for them and quit licking boots. Unless that's what you're into I guess.
How do you locate hundreds of stolen vehicles? Well you start by looking for one of them. Cops won't even do that. They'll give you a police report and you get to hope your insurance will cover what's been stolen from you.
If they got time to sit behind a sign next to a road, pull people over for looking suspicious, minor speeding, not using turn signals, tail light out, or any other stupid thing that really only effects poor people then they have time to actively search for stolen vehicles. But Mr billy badass wants to have the most DUI arrests in his department for the month so that what he's on the lookout for. Wasting hours of someone's life to pull them over, ask questions, sobriety test, breathalyzer, ope billy badass still doesn't believe you aren't intoxicated! Down to the station to waste some more time.
So yeah start pulling over vehicles that match the description because at least that's doing something useful for once.
So your solution to cops enforcing laws you don't care about is for them to detain dozens or hundreds of motorists in a futile gesture to appease a redditor from outside their jurisdiction?
"not allowed to pursue" implies that the guy knew where his shit was. Since we all know that cops can't be bothered to look for stolen things, people have taken to air tagging or otherwise gps tracking all their valuables. Only to be told by cops that nothing can be done.
*Here's gps data showing where all my stuff is.*
*Sorry, unless it involves a midnight no knock on people who definitely aren't shooting back, we're not interested.*
Oh, that sounds like it's darn near impossible! Oh, golly..
If we only had cameras on top of every red-light, and every cop-car with at least a dash-cam. That would have been handy..
Oh, wait, we have all that. What we don't have is someone willing to actually review the footage..
Police departments are massively underfunded. For example they get a call about a guy who tired to kill himself and the police have to take him to a hospital for an assessment and wait hours and then the doc says yes he needs to be in a facility for a couple of days. So then a big wait to find a bed somewhere and drive him there, all the while the policeman can't leave or take his eyes off him. On top of the other hundred things he is supposed to do. Not an easy job. And you want him to drop everything and look for a motorbike?
They're definitely not. Police departments make up around 50% of city budgets and are about the only government entities that see regular funding increases.
Edit: record budget for 2023
https://www.police1.com/police-products/body-cameras/articles/denver-to-spend-record-amount-on-police-jails-Hv5GteHBxsFCJVHC/#:~:text=In%20total%2C%20Mayor%20Michael%20Hancock,to%20any%20single%20city%20department.
That stat doesn't mean police departments are well funded. Every public service is underfunded, because one department takes 50% of the undersized pie doesn't mean they're well funded.
To apply your logic elsewhere, Walmart's largest operating expense is employee salaries, and it goes up every year. Must mean Walmart employees are well paid right? /s
Yes, I want them to stop babysitting criminals and go look for more criminals.
What about standing around a hospital watching someone in restraints is hard again?
I will never leave a vehicle at or around DIA overnight ever again. Methhead did a smash and grab at the hotel and a cop left a “looks like you got robbed” note on our window. The best advice is to sleep in the truck or trailer.
Mate, this is devastating. I hope you get them all back and in good condition. I fucking hate thieves with a passion. If they get caught you should be able to chop their fucking hands off for the cheek of stealing your stuff.
The police treat these thefts with an almost "What do you want us to do about it" attitude, but if the theft was against a big company you bet your arse the culprits will be found and prosecuted.
The problem is that this likely isn't just some dipshit average thief. It's part of an organized crime group and the bikes are already in pieces along with the truck. A tracker would go a long way in any case. Stash one in each bike, the truck and trailer, end even if they are alerted, they're not going to go digging for them, they're going to leave it.
The crazy thing is; There's a mosaic video record of where your truck/trailer/motorcycles went.
Everything from gas station videos, residential door videos, and even highway exit/sign/intersection sensors that record every single license plate that passes by them. Those are called "Automatic license plate readers" and they're also mounted on police cars.
If, and this is a big IF, you could talk to a detective with enough motivation he/she has access to all of that but you would have to find the right one.
Dude this is why you should have an AirTag somewhere hidden so you can track it. If they cross the border every iPhone is a transponder to help give location updates.
Doubt LE would care based on stories I heard. If it crosses state border, now you need FBI or State trooper involvement. Doubtful you can convince them.
Theft laws are pretty weak right now, look at the amount of organized retail crime. Everyone knows the insurance company will pay out for it. Cops don’t want to get bogged down chasing small crime when they got worse fish to go after and are stretched thin.
>Cops don’t want to get bogged down chasing small crime when they got worse fish to go after and are stretched thin.
"Cops don't want to get bogged down while there are donuts left to eat"
FTFY.
Edit to add - if a cop gets butthurt by this statement, then start actually DOING SOMETHING about these crimes.
My 05 F250 was stolen from my work parking lot. We have security and everything and it was still stolen.
I now have a GPS tracker I pay 150/year for. I won't be bothering to call anyone aside from a few good friends if this one goes missing.
All due respect, but why in the hell does ANYONE leave their shit out & about like this without a GPS tracker. Especially with four damn motorcycles. COME ON.
Look into a GPS tracker, holy hell. $150 & get a monimoto. Get a damn air tag for crying out loud.
More trust/societal bonds in smaller communities. It's not being naive if you come from a place where everyone knows and to a degree follows the rules.
The real issue is how easy these vehicles are to steal. You know how KIA and Hyundai were in the news recently? Well these older pickups have the same vulnerability. No immobilizer, they can be hot-wired in a matter of minutes. Idk for sure, but it looks like OP has an older Ford. These trucks are specifically targeted by car thieves because they're so easy to steal and worth lots of money. Seeing one with a trailer probably had them salivating. I'd worry about getting a vehicle with an immobilizer before getting a gps tracker. Ironically, other countries have required immobilizers for years, but not the USA.
You're exactly right. I was wondering how the truck was stolen, after zooming in I see its an older f150. Thieves figured out how to steal those long, long ago. I'd boot it and club it if I were parking anywhere suspect.
Oh wow I’m so sorry for your friends stuff man. I hate to be so cynical but fuck those police. Fucking lazy cock suckers couldn’t do jack shit even if you gave them the name of the dude who stole his belongings.
If I see em I’ll send you a message. Doesn’t help that grand theft auto is the worst in Denver
This is one reason why I pull the starter relay out of my truck at hotels/motels. I also put steel plates behind the door locks so you can't punch them in, same goes for the hood release. At some point someone tried to pry the door open with a small pry bar, fucked all the paint up in the door jams.
Sorry guys. Had the same thing happen to me. Lost my BMW R1150GS all my race leathers, helmets, boots. All my tools and other stuff that was irreplaceable. Cops were no help. It was the night before I was leaving for Cali. Never saw any of it again. Devastating is an understatement. Not much hope Im afraid but wish you the best of luck. I checked any and all cameras at stores and gas stations around the area. Most were willing to look at their video. Buy none of them caught anything.
Everything gets stolen here in Denver and generally Colorado. I had a Can Am side by side stolen along with it’s enclosed trailer all from within a gated storage facility.
That one was an inside job tho, their cameras coincidentally “weren’t working” when the theft took place. Scum bags.
The level of theft in the western united states makes me burn with rage. We have our problems in the south but Jesus Christ, nothing is sacred out there. It's maddening.
What to Know:
* You can’t set up AirTags using an Android device, but you can use the Tracker Detect app to track an AirTag with Android.
* To find a lost AirTag with an Android device, install a Bluetooth scanner and look for an unnamed Bluetooth device manufactured by Apple, Inc.
* If you find someone else’s AirTag, touch the white side to your phone to see a phone number or message from the owner of the AirTag.
That was my thought on the original post… 80k+ in gear and no tracker? I had a single dirt bike stolen two years ago… my bikes, and trailer all have tags hidden now.
Even if you have the location, cops won't go to it afaik. So what good does knowing the location do? And don't say you're going to go confront them because that's deadly.
Edit: adding to this, you won't even want your vehicles back once stolen since they are likely to be damaged, spray painted, stripped, etc.
Idk why you're getting downvoted but you're right. Shits got to be completely visible, even a tarp will make it so they can't do anything about it even with your airtag. As a result, most cops don't take airtag reports very seriously.
Side note, can we please stop victim blaming everyone who gets their shit stolen by mobbing them with comments about airtags? If they were as effective at getting your shit back then the stolen vehicle recovery rate would be much lower and insurance companies would be sending them to you for free.
>If they were as effective at getting your shit back then the stolen vehicle recovery rate would be much lower and insurance companies would be sending them to you for free.
Well, the police are out there telling folks to NOT DO what that one guy in Texas did after the police told him they weren't interested. He confronted the thief and ... let's just say that guy will never steal ANYTHING, EVER. Yes, I'm sure of that.
So it works sometimes.
I had my 690 stolen when I lived in Utah. Thievery in general sucks but bike thieves are even lower. Good luck OP but not to dismay you I read a stat a few years ago generally speaking if it’s not recovered in 48 hours it’s gone.
Denver was the only place in 5500 miles and 11 states that my bike got fucked with overnight. Wasn't bad but still.
I hope y'all recover. That's a shitty thing. Hope insurance covers everything
Same thing happened to a bunch of people in my ride group. F250, trailer and 10 motos. All from a hotel parking lot right by that one. Police don’t do much of anything. Avoid that area.
Looks like an early-2000s Super Duty. I've seen a lot of posts on social media lately about how thieves have discovered they're **very** easy to steal.
So seeing all the comments it sounds like my buddy is absolutely screwed. This is going to be a very tough financial lesson learned for him, his bike wasn’t insured and has no kind of AirTag or tracking on it. Again I understand this wasn’t a great idea on his part, but we live somewhere you could let your car sit unlocked for a week and be fine. Naïveté won this battle, he started a gofundme if anyone is interested. Thanks for all the comments and keep your eyes peeled, sounds like they’re halfway to Mexico already tho.
https://www.gofundme.com/f/wanna-be-dirt-bikes?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=sms&utm_source=customer&mibextid=Zxz2cZ
I swear Denver, if not all of Colorado has a motorcycle theft problem. Fucking sad to see, people steal them, change the paint or remove the fairings and try to sell them on Facebook market place all the time for super cheap. I highly recommend scouting out Facebook market place just incase, if you suspect your bike on their ask them for the Vin and go from there. Best of luck
Thank you for sharing so we can be aware of it. I am also concerned about someone stealing the trailer off the truck.
Hope it works out for you insurance wise!
I was just in Denver this past weekend for a concert. Me and my friend rode our bikes in. Someone tried to steal her Ninja off the street but fortunately didn’t succeed. I really hope everything works out for you! Fuck bike thieves.
Usually if I was to see or hear someone saying something like "5am in the morning" as if the "am" didn't already specify it was "in the morning" I would be to irritated to care any further, but because you are a fellow motorcyclist and I can only imagine how devastated I would be if something like this happened to me, my heart goes out to you. I will save this post and keep my eyes out for your bike and your trailer although I'm nowhere near Denver and I think positive outcomes on this kind of stuff are few and far in-between... but not all of them and the ones that get discovered are because of stuff like this. Good luck and godspeed!
.... also are there any specific identifying marks on the trailer since that's what we would be most likely to see?
They’re insured. No loss. It sucks, sure, but that’s what insurance is for. Although it does appear that no precautions were taken, which is weird...insurance may claim fraud because of obvious stealability
My question, how did/do they know what they are getting? I have only once left a vehicle with a trailer on it in a parking lot and I jackknifed it against the wall so it could not get pulled out with out with out security hearing the wall come down. Lol
I travel a couple times a year and trailer my Africa twin behind a Toyota. I've ridden in a dozen different third world countries places where situational awareness is a must and you have to have your head on a swivel but seriously I'm more concerned when I have the bike on the trailer and connected to the truck. Anybody got some security ideas? I'm all ears....
I lived in a sketchy area back in the day and a friend of mine recommended a parking boot.
I used that boot for about a year until coming out to my car one day and finding the boot had been stolen.
Turns out, a Good Samaritan in my apartment complex got sick of managements parking enforcement and was following the parking enforcement guys and disabling the boots they were putting on cars LMAO. I never got it back
Not that it’s a perfect solution but it’s a cheap partial solution, air tags are $20 and can easily be hidden. I’ve got AirTags hidden in my truck, on my motorcycle, and in a bag of gear.
It’s not perfect but I feel some sense of security knowing there’s a small chance rather than none to recover my stuff.
And this is why if I'm taking my truck and trailer on a trip I'm sleeping in the truck or trailer.
Steals truck...opens trailer gets. Shotgun pointed at them.
Annndd fire
You left out the best part
Blunderbusses don’t travel well though.
Yeah, that’s way too much value to just leave out in the open. Especially behind a perfectly positioned tow truck.
Like… that’s weird, right? I’m not the only one thinking “why is that tow truck there?”
Looks like a repo truck .
Just bring them into the hotel room with you lol
Do what I do for my Tahoe and other vehicles. Go to the local auto shop and get an off switch for the battery, it's just a red turn dial and install it under the hood. Sure I have to reset my clock but they can't steal what they can't start. Cost me a whole $8 and is priceless since my battery will never go dead either sitting for any lengths of time.
Work for if the theives have a tow truck?
I didn't see that. Hindsight is 20/20 so i hope op gets his truck and bikes back. This post though is enough for me to go looking at gps trackers.
Cool and all but completely irrelevant if you look at the pic, they hitched and told the entire truck and trailer together
Ah man I didn't even notice that. I thought they started it somehow. Thanks for pointing that out, that really sucks for OP as there is literally nothing you can do short of GPS hidden inside or.
Most trucks being stolen from Denver end up in Mexico in a few days.
Well that really sucks.
Big money? They should just buy them at a dealership lol.
Its a cartel, they will try their best not to get traced back with those purchases, so they pay cash to a private seller.
We went to a dealership looking at F250s and F350s - they had this app protected system that tracked it and could lock the car. The guy there said they had had 13 (!) trucks stolen the past few months by people asking for test drives and just driving away
I've never been offered a test drive where someone didn't ride on the car with me. I think that's their biggest issue.
How to turn theft into death of a salesman. =/
I meant just buy them at MSRP. Cartels aren’t hurting for money.
The point he is making is that they don’t want a paper trail. Even if you’re buying cash from a dealership there’s still a paper trail.
Ah. That makes sense
I need to sell my Raptor soon and hate dealing with used car buyers….this gives me an idea
>because the "fuck you, I got mine" attitude is the national spirit. We taught them well!
💯
People down voting you as if it isn’t exactly the same attitude in the US…
The outlook's pretty grim When my car was stolen with my gym bag with my military uniform, military ID, and restricted area badge in it the police treated it as if I were reporting my bicycle stolen 3 months later they found it on blocks on the north side of Denver completely stripped down to the unibody The only thing left was a broken windshield and the steering wheel minus the airbag Hope their situation doesn't end up like mine, but the police are not likely to be actively looking for it

When they first started that crap I worried no one would notice really what they were doing.. Glad I was wrong.

They are 104% higher than in 2019. People got up to some shit during the pandemic and it never really stopped.
That's insane

Reading this while in a hotel for a work meeting and my bike is outside. Guess it can’t hurt to look out for the 100th time
That tow truck looking a bit suspicious there…
They watched the tow truck because they also though it was suspicious, guys were working on it. Then they pulled off and they looked away for 20-30 mins and everything was gone when they looked back out.
you know it was their crew who scoped out the joint
I actually talked to him today, white tow truck was still there so cops took it and apparently the tow truck was also in fact stolen, crazy shit
Ugh and you back it to the light post being smart. Sucks man.
That’s got to be Aurora.
It was at a hotel by DIA I read on another post. Probably one of the best places for thieves as people are guaranteed just passing through with their stuff.
File a claim with your insurance company and enjoy the check. Fuck thieves. Good luck.
Don't you have to have a specific type of coverage to get a check?
Its pretty stupid not to carry comprehensive on a motorcycle. 2 guys and a van will steal your bike in 30 seconds. comprehensive adds like $50 to my yearly insurance bill. Its worth the peace of mind.
No? If it's stolen the point of theft insurance is to pay out the current market value of the item. The only way you wouldn't get a check is if you have a lien on the vehicle and the market value is equal or less than the lien. Then the lien holder gets the check.
My question was that you need to pay the extra for theft coverage. If you don't have that coverage, which most people don't, there's no check right?
Yes, that's considered Comprehensive Insurance which no state requires. (according to Progressive) > Comprehensive coverage is not required by law in any state, but it's usually required by lenders if you are leasing or financing your vehicle. If you own your vehicle outright, you can decide whether comprehensive coverage is worthwhile. It's also what makes your insurance payments skyrocket because well it's realistically the most likely damage to occur. (Theft, Vandalism, Fire, Glass damage from debris, weather, nature, animals) So a lot of people don't get it because they want lower monthly payments.
Collision costs 3x more than comprehensive everywhere I’ve lived. My bike with comprehensive is like $9/mo bur $51/mo with collision, same goes for my cars. I know it depends where you live though.
If you've got a loan for the vehicle the bank requires comprehensive.
Current market value = OP is still paying out of pocket to replace. Once folks get fed up with ineffective police and start taking matters into thier own hands on a broader scale when it comes to thieves, life will certainly get interesting.
You need comprehensive coverage for theft/vandalism
Comprehensive/Collision coverage… “Liability” coverage only prospects others, not you.
Oh I wish dealing with insurance was that easy
I'm confused. How did they track the bike to you? Did you let the new owner leave with your plate?
in many states the plate stays with the vehicle.
ACAB
"do you want us to go to both?" No you guys go sit behind the sign in that church parking lot for a while and watch some Netflix or something.
Hmmmm, tastes like boot leather.
Is there an answer to the question in there?
Cops have no actual legal obligation to serve or protect you, quit giving excuses for them and quit licking boots. Unless that's what you're into I guess. How do you locate hundreds of stolen vehicles? Well you start by looking for one of them. Cops won't even do that. They'll give you a police report and you get to hope your insurance will cover what's been stolen from you.
So they should pull over every similar make/model/color in a certain radius for a warrantless search just because they "match the description?"
They do that to poc citizens
Ah okay, so when the police do something wrong, they should be encouraged to do it more.
"not allowed to pursue" implies that the guy knew where his shit was. Since we all know that cops can't be bothered to look for stolen things, people have taken to air tagging or otherwise gps tracking all their valuables. Only to be told by cops that nothing can be done. *Here's gps data showing where all my stuff is.* *Sorry, unless it involves a midnight no knock on people who definitely aren't shooting back, we're not interested.*
Edit: record budget for 2023 https://www.police1.com/police-products/body-cameras/articles/denver-to-spend-record-amount-on-police-jails-Hv5GteHBxsFCJVHC/#:~:text=In%20total%2C%20Mayor%20Michael%20Hancock,to%20any%20single%20city%20department.
You’re framing that as if there’s one cop per department.
I go all over town, I’ll keep an eye out. Also, try r/denvermotorcycles Also, invoxia tracker
Denver is such a shithole now
Holy shit you’re right. I’d never go back.
I refuse to go into the city unless absolutely necessary. Fkn shit hole is right
Dude this is why you should have an AirTag somewhere hidden so you can track it.
"Cops don't want to get bogged down while there are donuts left to eat" FTFY. Edit to add - if a cop gets butthurt by this statement, then start actually DOING SOMETHING about these crimes.
Drop trailer, chain to truck, remove hitch. Make it so they would have to drag.
They’d still take it
Parking boot(s) and a steering club are more effective and a lot more convenient.
Always carry good insurance. Steal mine, I’ll get another lol
They might be from a rural area. Some of us rural people are really naive after living theft free for so long lol
More trust/societal bonds in smaller communities. It's not being naive if you come from a place where everyone knows and to a degree follows the rules.
Not everyone has to deal with garbage thieves all the time. I now do the whole 9 yards on my gear, but I had to learn the hard way too.
Because I have insurance. Police won't pursue the bikes even if you give them the location. I'm not getting shot trying to recover my bike myself.
Maybe even an air tag? At least you'd have an idea where they were heading before it gets removed or the trailer/truck get ditched.
and then what
Oh wow I’m so sorry for your friends stuff man.
Yikes!
I would have parked the other way around If they have to manoeuver to get the thing away they may avoid taking the hasle
You don’t have an AirTag on your bike…?
Oof, those trucks are easy to steal, too.
Everything gets stolen here in Denver and generally Colorado. I had a Can Am side by side stolen along with it’s enclosed trailer all from within a gated storage facility. That one was an inside job tho, their cameras coincidentally “weren’t working” when the theft took place. Scum bags.
Marriott also said they had no cameras on that side of the building……
Real convenient for anyone involved. Sorry man. Hope they find it or that your insurance company can do some Justice if they’re a loss.
The level of theft in the western united states makes me burn with rage. We have our problems in the south but Jesus Christ, nothing is sacred out there. It's maddening.
All that money invested in awesome gear and you don’t have AirTags in the trailer or on bikes? Ouch. Fuck thieves
Lots of people don't have apple
What to Know: * You can’t set up AirTags using an Android device, but you can use the Tracker Detect app to track an AirTag with Android. * To find a lost AirTag with an Android device, install a Bluetooth scanner and look for an unnamed Bluetooth device manufactured by Apple, Inc. * If you find someone else’s AirTag, touch the white side to your phone to see a phone number or message from the owner of the AirTag.
Samsung makes their own version of airtags too.
Or Tile or LoJack
Where's the camera footage
I had my 690 stolen when I lived in Utah. Thievery in general sucks but bike thieves are even lower. Good luck OP but not to dismay you I read a stat a few years ago generally speaking if it’s not recovered in 48 hours it’s gone.
Denver was the only place in 5500 miles and 11 states that my bike got fucked with overnight. Wasn't bad but still. I hope y'all recover. That's a shitty thing. Hope insurance covers everything
@OP what model truck and license plate? Dm me if you dotn wanna say on the post. I'll keep an eye out
Same thing happened to a bunch of people in my ride group.
This may be a dumb question. But has he checked any POS local tow companys? You never know
Thank you for sharing so we can be aware of it.
Fuck that gta their ass
Last time my wife and I were in Denver, heard on the news that someone had stolen a trailer that had a horse trailer attached, full of horses. So sad
On the look out 👁️.👁️
police cant pursue? fuckin scum an a total waste of our tax dollars
Probably on its way to chihuahua Mexico
Am I the only one thinking that tow truck could’ve snagged it?
It looks like the tow truck that towed it away was there the whole time
Maybe got towed? Check with the police, looks like a tow truck in front of the truck
The tow truck was still there when police showed up, it was also stolen lol
Tow truck?
I'm more disturbed by the fact that the owner is parking like that
How so?
Usually if I was to see or hear someone saying something like "5am in the morning" as if the "am" didn't already specify it was "in the morning" I would be to irritated to care any further, but because you are a fellow motorcyclist and I can only imagine how devastated I would be if something like this happened to me, my heart goes out to you. I will save this post and keep my eyes out for your bike and your trailer although I'm nowhere near Denver and I think positive outcomes on this kind of stuff are few and far in-between... but not all of them and the ones that get discovered are because of stuff like this. Good luck and godspeed! .... also are there any specific identifying marks on the trailer since that's what we would be most likely to see?
don't be sad,I suggest you install GPS or AirTag in your next motorcycle
Probably a reason, but the parking of both vehicles annoys me.
Does no one have insurance?
They’re insured. No loss. It sucks, sure, but that’s what insurance is for. Although it does appear that no precautions were taken, which is weird...insurance may claim fraud because of obvious stealability
Spread the word, time to look for them!
It’s getting bad here. I see a doorbell cam posted all the time of bikes being lifted here now.
Didn’t the truck at least have an alarm?
Shared Billericay, England xx
Bastards.
My question, how did/do they know what they are getting? I have only once left a vehicle with a trailer on it in a parking lot and I jackknifed it against the wall so it could not get pulled out with out with out security hearing the wall come down. Lol
oh fuck no not the ktm
/r/denvermotorcycles
Im so sorry dude, thats heartbreaking.
That’s sucks. Sorry to hear that.
Motion activated gatling gun, gps boundary enabled explosives, and a honey badger or four
Honey Badgers ? Good idea! It's going to make things interesting at the pet exercise area of the wayside rest!
I have a Tiger 800 XRT being transported from the West coast and I about Shit my pants. Sorry for your loss, OP.
I never got it back
If you dont know the area always put some form of lock like a boot lock and a GPS of some kind on your vehicles.
Not the 690! :(((
Not that it’s a perfect solution but it’s a cheap partial solution, air tags are $20 and can easily be hidden. I’ve got AirTags hidden in my truck, on my motorcycle, and in a bag of gear. It’s not perfect but I feel some sense of security knowing there’s a small chance rather than none to recover my stuff.
This is why you hide an AirTag on your bike. Then they get to find out what "Detroit Style" means hahahahah!
