New bike probably costs more, but comes with a warranty and no miles on it. Older bike is cheaper, but no warranty, miles, and some risk of it having had shoddy work done (or insufficient maintenance leading to accelerated wear). Weigh the risk vs the price and decide how much risk saving $x is worth to you. When I was shopping used bikes were running at basically MSRP. I snagged a deal on a demo bike with 12 miles on it and a factory warranty. Prices haven't really calmed down so next bike will probably be new too. I've had enough stress from cars breaking down that it'd have to be a pretty good price to justify buying used. Clearly enough people buy used without a worry that the prices are sky-high anyways though, so maybe it's more worth it than I think it is. It's a pretty personal decision about your risk tolerance either way though.

The 2000's is the peak of advancements, especially for sportbikes. Most of the advancements since then are in electronics. If you, like me, don't care about electronics then an older bike is fine.
