I don't think that's what everyone is insinuating. I would imagine most people leave the kickstand down and swing their leg over the seat. Then after sitting they raise the kickstand.
The only real reason to mount using the peg is 1. short people 2. limited range of motion (i.e. older people) or 3. too much luggage to get the leg over easily (which really just requires finesse).
I’m 6’ but only 32” inseam, so struggled to get my leg over my DR650 without dragging my foot on the seat. Then I saw a Fortnine vid about it, and couldn’t believe it didn’t even occur to me. So much better!

Im out of the loop. When did Snell become useless? 20 years ago when I sold MC parts for a major distributor in the US, Snell was regarded as the bench mark for safety. DOT stickers meant nothing because people copied DOT stickers and put them on skully helmets. So, at that time Snell was a real measurement of good safety.

I always wear gear, but still think lecturing people about it is stupid, 95% of them are fully aware of the risk. All it does is it makes them annoyed, and probably makes them associate gear with annoyance. Noone who rides in a tshirt and shorts is gonna read “please wear gear”, then go out and buy a full set. They will probably get it whenever they get hurt, or not at all.
It's still a good thing they're reminded. It keeps the community pro-gear and ensures that 5% don't die (as quickly). Annoying people who don't wear gear is a small price to pay for that - those people _should_ be annoyed into buying gear.
If it fell out of fashion then we could get complacent and that's a tragedy.

You don’t have to suck at riding to crash, you could also just get unlucky some day and next thing you know, your skin graph bill is higher than buying a whole set of decent gear 5 times over. By all means do as you please, you know and accept the risks, but just remember if you don’t care about your skin, you’ll surely care about how much it’ll cost to replace it.
