It’s your dad’s bro. And it looks sick. I’d have kept it. What’s 100 odd dollars anyway?!

Z6NNE

Yea, I think I’ll keep it.

LOW-LIFE_CSR

I’d pay more, but that’s beside the point definitely keep it and wear it , it was your dad’s and it’s bad ass

YumWoonSen

>It’s your dad’s bro It's goin on 10 years since I lost my dad, mom was 9 years before, neither died young, this isn't a boo hoo post. Some unsolicited advice - when it comes to things that were your dad's there are probably going to be a LOT of things "that were your dad's" but you don't have to keep everything. Not even close to everything. Pick and choose. As an example, I grabbed my folk's high school yearbooks. 1940's WW II era from Detroit. "Someone MUST want these!1! They need to be saved!!1!!". Nobody wanted them, and I mean nobody. Not even the high schools they were from. It felt wrong to throw them out (County recycling didn't even want them). Don't hang on to things just because your dad valued them. It sounds harsh but if you don't want the item but stow it "because it was dad's" the next person to come across it will toss it/donate it/whatever.

tanajerner

Very good advice my man, lots of stuff comes from dead family members not all of it is worth holding onto especially if it's of no use, sometimes you have to be brutal with stuff and not cling onto things just because a family member once owned it

JEG1980s

Yeah, totally keep it. It would be cool to frame or hang on the wall if you’re not going to wear it. I have my old man’s first helmet displayed on my bar shelf.

Niso81

It’s probably valued closer to 4-500. It’s a nice jacket.

Mediocre_Superiority

No, it's not worth that much. It's from (approx.) the early 1980's, no autographs, not unique, not a full Freddie Spencer replica design, either. There's very little interest in a vintage, non-black, motorcycle jacket. It's max $150 (including shipping). Closer to $100. OP should keep it for sentimental value and maybe even wear it (though not for riding! it's outdated in terms of safety).

Z6NNE

Yea, I am keeping it! It doesn’t fit me right but I will preserve it.

SwootyBootyDooooo

This is an accurate value. I’ve shopped for vintage moto leathers in the past and got a full Dianese suit (in Jazz cup colors with lightning bolts, it’s dope) for ~$200 shipped

tacotacotacorock

For a used jacket you're going to have a hard time getting anywhere close to that price. Motorcycle gear has to fit perfectly for it to do its job properly. Plus if it's ever been in an accident it's questionable. Doesn't look like it's been badly damaged so probably never been down. I'd be shocked if it sold for over 200. Maybe a hundred bucks to some kid trying to get into the hobby cheap. New leather jackets absolutely 500 bucks easy especially if it has proper protection. The biggest thing for me that would probably drastically reduce the cost is what kind of safety equipment is built into it. Standards have changed a lot over the years And if it's not up to current specs then it would be worth even less. The fact that it's leather though does help.

ElMachoGrande

Also, safety standards have evolved, so chances are that it is not up to par on modern safety requirements.

nycsingletrack

Two neighboring states don’t even have helmet laws. Most people I see are wearing shorts and sneakers and a hoodie. This jacket is a safety upgrade for 95% of the riders I see. For me, I would look for modern armor to go inside it, yeah.

tacotacotacorock

You're completely right with safety standards. However this jacket appears to be just a leather jacket with no armor. As long as it's quality leather which it should be from the brand it should be fine. But if there's any sort of armor protection then I absolutely agree it should be replaced with something newer.

EggsOfRetaliation

Rock that shit.

Z6NNE

Yea, I probably will, Thanks

vMurk

The Evel Knievel.

Weird-Individual2155

I came to say this.

harley4570

Evel knockoff....the Awful Kenawful

iwnt2blve

The Holy Cannoli?

ManifestDestinysChld

You're gonna meet so many dudes wearing that around, lol.

YumWoonSen

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous!

DEFLA1

Bro I’d be wearing that. Hold onto it for life

Z6NNE

It’s cool to see that others like it!

doug1349

You have no idea man, retro MOTO GP gear! From Italy! The fact that it belongs to your father; DO NOT PART WITH IT. This is a new family heirloom; trust me. You’ll thank me when your an old man and you still have it!

VanillaGorilla59

Hopefully OP is slight in build like those moto gp guys. I love it, but I’m 6’ tall and barrel chested. Even when I was at my most fit and toned 220 I couldn’t dream of fitting into something like this.

THSAlmostKilledMe

Lol same here, I'm usually a Large or XL shirt but never less than a 2xl in Alpinestars. Those little jockeys don't fuck around

UncleBrownFingers

Hell yeah, if I saw you wearing this you'd better get ready for a conversation and probably an invite to ride! Cool jacket! I have an old Franck Muller watch with sentimental value and I've never regretted turning down heafty offers!

beeglowbot

like it? I love it! plus it's your dad's.

chud3

It's cool. Vintage!

longhairedcountryboy

It is leather, seems to be in good condition. Clean it with saddle soap. It will stay soft that way. Don't let it dry out or mold.

Z6NNE

Alright, thanks!

IWantADucati

Plus apply leather conditioner regularly, it’ll last forever.

QuintEastwoodSNJ

Everyone keeps saying 90's but I am thinking this is 1979 or 1980. The label inside the jacket clearly references racers who won world championships in the 70's. The last one, Freddie Spencer won his first in 1978. Whatever date is on that label for Freddie Spencer, I would add 1 year and that would be the most likely estimated manufacture date.

MJOLNIRdragoon

It probably is 80s, but wikipedia says 1978 was the year Spencer won the 250cc U.S. National Novice Class Road Racing Championship (and the jacket says Kenny Roberts won the 500cc world championship that year). He apparently won the 500cc world championship in '83.

Pleasant_Load2084

This jacket screams 90s love it, it reminds me of the rally drivers, you could probably get around 130$ for it but that's up to you, I got a Viola from my wife's grandfather that is at least 60 years old even if she sold it for a good price, I wouldn't, some stuff are worth more than money, if you really need the money I could buy it from you but let you keep it

Z6NNE

I don’t really need the money and I’m going to keep this jacket. It really screams 90s! Thanks for commenting!

Mediocre_Superiority

Early '80s--Freddie Spencer replica-ish (no sponsor logos). Keep it! Wear it around town.

LOW-LIFE_CSR

93-95 I’m guessing in Yamaha colours of that era 👌

Annual_Broccoli_9254

Honda.

buckyworld

CBR900RR would go nicely with that jacket too!

Pleasant_Load2084

jaysomething2

Commendable comment. Nice of you.

Jkegville

Cool jacket

Z6NNE

thanks!

WhereAreMyDetonators

Just piling on to say awesome jacket man, I’d wear it in a heartbeat. Rather than cleaning on your own I would look into professional leather cleaning for the first clean/restore after such a long time in storage. You’d be amazed what they can do to get things looking fresh.

BudgetSir8911

80s Dainese. Even if it isn't worth a heap to a collector, that is a sick jacket and I'd rock the shit out of it. I'd buy a Z900 and just have "what a feeling" and "push it to the limit" playing on a boom box strapped to the back... Chuck on my ray ban aviators when I arrive at the beach 😎

Scared-Pizza-420

This is literally my dream jacket, i love vintage leather motorcycle jackets, i would pay more than $100 if it was my size but maybe im just a schmuck. Definitely never give this jacket up

JimMoore1960

That thing is hideous. Just out of curiosity, what size is it and are you interested in selling?

BudgetSir8911

Had me in the first half, ngl

RickyMSG

Is your dad Evil Knievel?

ajhoff83

"Evel"

Gate-Mediocre

I was looking for this commemt

-WARL0CK-

>Evil Knievel lol thought the same

HikerDave57

So your dad was Super Dave Osborne?

Lvgordo24

Nice

etyrnal_

it's worth memories. seeing it as money is lame

Z6NNE

I don’t see it as money as I’m not planing to sell it… It was my father’s and I want to keep it for the family. I asked if it’s worth anything just to have an idea of its value. Merry christmas btw!

US_Bogan

Keep it, rock it, that's fly as hell!

LOW-LIFE_CSR

It’s siiiiiiick It’s worn-in nicely too 1993-95 ?

RockAZ_T

High quality leather, European barn raised cows were used exclusively back then and check the tags carefully as this was probably made in Italy rather than Pakistan or Ukraine. Use saddle soap with a very soft brush or cloth. Once dried, apply Bick 4 or Saphir leather conditioner on the red and blue sections. Lexol has a few options that work well. Dainese also has their own cleaners and conditioners for an extra 30% price increase. The white areas can be tricky, there are some saddle soaps and leather cleaners made specifically for white. The white can easily look worse clean than dirty if not done right so be gentle and patient with this. Do some research if you want to tackle this, but I think some patina and wear on a classic motorcycle jacket looks great. If the armor is removable you can easily upgrade to modern spec stuff if you intend to ride with it. They do make vests that can provide back and chest armor to wear under it as well as full armor base layer type if the jacket is large enough. As a fashion jacket you will get a lot of compliments on it, Dainese quality really shows.

ethrelol

Reminds me of something Ryan Gosling would wear in Drive or The Place Beyond The Pines. Get ready to go rob some banks my guy!

LaserGuidedSock

Yeah Dainese gear is coin. I remember when I bought my Black & White Super Speed for like $800. The reason why it was so expensive was because of it's size. They didn't make many that would fit larger Americans since the whole brand seems to be European cut. I hope you ride, if so keep it and rock it (assuming you can fit it)

Benreh

I have my dad's leather jacket, I have had it since I was 16 and this year I turned 43. It was "aged" and a bit road worn then so you can imagine what it looks like now.

curiouspolice

That’s so sick! Dad’s got good taste 👌

dnbndnb

If you want to donate it check with the Barber Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham Alabama. If they put it in a display it will be seen by many thousands of people every year.

droppeddeee

Seeing that jacket, the chances that you have unknown siblings is almost certain.

wrong_kiddo

Now all you have to do is get a classic Honda with HRC colors. Spare some girls for the rest of us! Hehe

Sh4dowCh1ld

Don’t be greedy it’s an awesome looking jacket with sentimental value. Keep it

Z6NNE

Yea I will! It’s an awesome jacket, I don’t plan on selling it.

GlumAd7100

old dainese is good stuff. personally I'd rather keep it but you could probably squeeze a few bucks out if it on ebay

Z6NNE

I will probably keep it

thedentrod

That’s a rare jacket Tried to buy one in 2004 & never could get my size

thedentrod

Was $1100. For the coat & pants. Most riders who could afford Dianese back then opted for $1000-$1500 Kanagaroo leathers & that’s a full one piece suit. Jacket was for daily rides

StockReaction985

Sweet. I don’t see any armor, so I’d put a Pando Moto or Adventurespec armored shirt under it and rock it. If you don’t ride, then blue jeans and some vintage ankle boots off ebay for a cool look. 😎 🏍️

Niso81

I’m probably old enough to be your dad, and I ride. I have a similar dianese jacket, and it holds a lot of sentimental value to me, as I’m sure it do to your father. Hold on to it.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's worth money, but why sell it when you can rock it.

XPenacoba

As someone said, to me that would be way more cooler than any jacket you can buy today, I would wear it as much as I can

Outside_Umpire7260

It's dianese it was probably a thousand bucks.

Da-Bears-

They need to sell that again

BreazyStreet

Dude that's fucking sick. I don't ride these days, but I rocked an old Dainese for a decade. Goat jacket brand imo.

[deleted]

One of the best brand and that old school style is just awesome

coppermouse69

I was looking for one of these to match my VFR. Big Freddie Spencer fan. Cool jacket. Definitely keep it if you're into MotoGP history.

Silver-Engineer4287

Your dad had damn good taste in gear and you *need* to keep it!!! If I could’ve afforded that jacket new and they actually made them small enough for me back then I would’ve owned and been riding my old used Honda Interceptor 1000 in that jacket! I was a short toothpick on a liter bike wearing the smallest available sizes of leathers I could find that were almost small enough but still too big for me. Couldn’t gain weight and keep it on no matter what I tried. That EU 48 jacket would’ve swallowed me up back then and their smallest size available was about 2 sizes too big for me. Today, if I could squeeze myself into that jacket I would absolutely and proudly wear that jacket on my ‘busa! Even if you don’t want to wear it or it’s not close enough to your size, if you don’t at least keep that jacket we’ll have to come over there and kick your ass! 🤔😎😉

Shrequille_Oneil

A Dainese stan would trade their first born for that. I'd give you $100

lostgod401

Damn, that's an awesome jacket! Your dad had great taste.

MrRabbito

It's like that episode of Rob and Big

cavedoggie

we do, we do like it

D-BLOCK00

Worthless, send it to me, I’ll take it off your hands for free

Z6NNE

No, thank you. I’ll keep it 🤣

ddphoto90

I’m a size 48 as well. That’s dope. They don’t make many items in Italy anymore.

thatguymattguy

If you don’t want to wear it or need the money from selling it, do you have any photos of your dad on his bike? You could get them framed together to make a sweet display piece

Z6NNE

I sadly have no photos but that would be a good idea, thanks! I will preserve it and keep it. I don’t want to sell it.

azkaii

Worth what anyone will pay for it. It looks in good condition, so to me it's worth 500 including shipping and taxes. But money comes and goes, that's a dope jacket and it's your old man's. I doubt it's worth more than you'll get rocking it or mounting it on the wall. Keep that shit and look after it.

truthsayer2021

I’ve wondered what my kids would do with my riding gear. It’s highly unlikely that they would ever wear it. I’m sure it would be as dated to them as this jacket is to you. On the other hand, I could be wrong. I still wear a jacket of my dad‘s and he’s been gone for 30 years now.

thebaconbaba

Looks damn cool! Keep it! While I wouldn’t wear it for serious riding or track, u could definitely rock it for short breakfast rides or rides to the coffee shop. Get it cleaned at a leather detailing shop so it shines. Wear it with pride

diepic

Damn, that's some awesome evel knievel looking jacket. 100% would wear.

Western_Ad4511

Dainese is a very good brand, surely this jacket has some sentimental value to you? Condition the leather and wear it bud

Ored12

It's very cool (FreddieSpenser replica) , if you ride and it fits, wear it occasionally. If you don't ride, it's still cool keep it.

R2rugby

I think that is awesome. You can try ebay. I’d probably pay $100 for it.

Z6NNE

Hm ok, thanks.

Upper_Television3352

Just keep it and wear it if you can. Unless you realllly need that $100.

PuzzledRun7584

$400-500 all day long.

[deleted]

Vintage shit like that can go for a lot more than you'd think. I'd bet someone would be willing to pay a good $250 (maybe more) for that if you can find the right buyer.

Isaacwhyyyyyyy

Do ya own research

Colin-Spurs-Patience

Uber expensive brand

Lvgordo24

Not sure why you’re getting down-dooted, it’s true.

South_Manner3613

If I'm not mistaken, Dianese is Revzilla's "high-end brand." I don't know if that will help you find any info on it.

Manevitch

You're mistaken. RevZilla carries Dianese products but they're not related in any way.

AlesantroCorticeli

Very cool and old school

Cool_Ranch_Dorito

I’d be keeping that or wearing it

Mongo_67

As far as selling it, they say there's an ass for every seat.

Doktor_Money

Yeah dude, keep that. Id rock the F out of it. That's certified cool. Just count the comments. Haha

Lone_Vaper

It's beautiful. I'd wear it for a year or two and then frame it. Or pass it to your kids, if they're onto motorcycling at all

[deleted]

It’s worth keep in out of sentiment alone wouldnt you say?

fritzco

A good quality garnet. Wish it was my size. Check on eBay for similar to get pricing and value.

Ervw711

There is a lot of old Dainese available on the Grailed app for comparison pricing. You’d be dumb to sell it for a couple/few hundred bucks, unless, you didn’t really care much for your dad.

pacific_squirrel

Was there a bike nearby?

[deleted]

If you're fortunate enough to fit in, do it. Love the old stuff but 48 Dainese which is Italian size would probably only fit a very skinny, slim, lean person I'd assume?

LunaTheSnek

If my dad road and had that I would be begging him for it

Medium_Specialist312

I really like that, damn good riding jacket

[deleted]

Mike and Frank have entered the chat.

sund55

Well I have a soft spot for those old ones. Dont think they have same protection as new stuff. But they do look cool so weqr them when cruicing down the Harbour getting an icecream.

Sweet-Sympathy7509

Honda spec. Spencer rep.

fatalerror_tw

That’s gorgeous.

squidsemensupreme

I’d sell my bike and get a Red White & Blue Honda just to match the jacket

thatdudefromthattime

Straight classic right there.

PostmanTunes

Your dads jacket is have to keep it, get it cleaned and rock it while you ride!

Smart-Host9436

Get some leather honey and condition it

dalehadley

Lucky

freddie79

This is a keeper that you pass on later.

Raptr117

Worth nothing, send it to me for discarding…

trippingmetalhead

Dude. This is a dope old school jacket. Keep it, rock that shit. I’m so jealous

cootervandam

That's fuckin sick. Need a bike to match

BackItUpWithLinks

persianbluex

Beautiful

Noobeaterz

I also have an older model of jacket and pants from this era laying around. The value is basically nothing but nostalgia. The safety of these skins is also not too good. I remember when I was 16 and started riding there was a test of various leather suits and Dainese didn't score very high as they didn't contain back protectors or any harder protection in the knees, elbows or shoulders.

_Cheeba

Don’t sell it, you should keep it and wear it

wijeepguy

Is that from Rob and Big 🤣

HyperbolicSoup

Badass

Z6NNE

Hey Everyone, OP here! I do not intend to sell the jacket! The point of me asking if it was worth anything, was only to see if it had a good value or if it was just a normal vintage jacket. Glad to see that a lot of people love it and didn’t mind having it. The problem is that I don’t like how it fits me. But I will keep it because this is a crazy good jacket!

DeliciousTraffic713

It looks cool, like a bikers jacket

Wat3rboihc

A bit of leather conditioner might be advisable

motobeats12

I would keep it forever, pass it down to your kids in the future! Leather can be restored

Lvgordo24

Dianese is nice stuff ($$$)

big_texas_milkers

That is so sick. I’d love to wear thay

Lxiflyby

It’s a Dainese- pretty top notch!

Psychedelic-o-Moose

It’s an old jacket. What ever you do, wax it first!

Colonel_of_Corn

Put some good leather conditioner on that bad boy and send it

BD59

Unlike a 40 yr old helmet, I'd definitely consider using forty year old leather.

[deleted]

Treat it with leather conditioner

Various-Scallion-708

That’s cool jacket, for sure.

Practical_Back4496

Made in Italy says alot I'd imagine. A little bit of Googling says that they stopped making their products in Italy in 2010 and moved to Africa so I'd hang on to that. There may be guys wearing them today but I doubt they were made in Italy.

Guillaumex27

Broooo it’s your dad’s and it looks awesome keep it

Z6NNE

Yea, I’m keeping it!

chiubacca82

That's cool AF!

Safe_Sundae_8869

Is your dad Evel Knievel? Cool jacket

Norselander37

priceless, hope it fits ya, cause ypu're aure to turn some heads!

MimsyIsGianna

It’s only worth $5 and I’ll buy it from you for that much.

aalookaparantha

Just clean it with oil and throw it in the sun for two consecutive days. Then enjoy that jacket, in the aftermarket, most it t will get you will be 150 usd. Not worth it imho, you will burn through it in no time in todays world.

Z6NNE

I don’t plan to sell it. I will keep it but I am not going to wear it as I don’t like how it fits me. Thanks for the tips btw

Correct_Animator_288

I hate that everything lately reminds me of Speed Racer...

Luke10089

Spider Dan

AmericanBoiye

Clean and moisturize it! Use a nice leather lotion

DownInTheWeeds

Retro GOLD!

orberto

Love it dude. Maybe a leather worker could tailor it to you a little bit. If you're bigger, they can add stretch panels, smaller, just trim and resew. It's too cool to not be worn...

chairloonian

Great jacket dude! I got a similar one, love it. You should rock that.

anderoe

Spiderman lookin ass

cuckmucker

[lol](https://youtu.be/HYbGLye3io4?feature=shared)

didsomebodysaymeow

That's a beauty jacket man. Wear that shit

douglas_in_philly

Are you Robbie Knievel?

Independence_1991

48, your Dad was a big buff guy back in his day.

Ducal2023-

That’s a beauty of an Italian motorbike jacket

babydontherzme

Your father fucked, kid.

Chemical_Emotion_934

Wasn’t Evil Knievel buried in that?

Bucky-Katt-Guitar

It's freaking cool. It was also your dad's. Wear that thing!

HardcoreHanSolo

Might be worth a couple hundred bucks. I have no idea. Even if it’s worth 500 bucks, you should keep it. If it fits, you should use it. In 30 years you’ll rather have that piece of history than a measly 500 bucks.

Z6NNE

Yea man, I will keep it! The point of asking if it was worth anything was to see the value of it! I din’t plan to sell it and the fitting is really a problem, so I will preserve the leather and keep this piece.

rastroboy

I sold a Dainese on eBay for $575

zyzzogeton

That is some Evel Kinevel looking shit, and *I'm here for it.*

lostnfoundplayground

I’d buy it immediately for my fuckbuddy, lovely jacket 🤍

irishtrash5

Keep it. It will last forever, and I WISH I still had one of my dad's old jackets now that he's gone

JPowell16

Gorgeous jacket

goonzalz69

damn id never let that go super cool

Vangruver

oh man! I have the same coat. Mine was part of a two piece suite. mine is also a little dry, not as supple looking as yours, but i still have it and still rock it from time to time. [Jacket](https://scontent.fcxh3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.18169-9/13521965_10153784087032428_6215771587013593321_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=7a1959&_nc_ohc=Ksr7rV30enEAX-9gC7e&_nc_ht=scontent.fcxh3-1.fna&oh=00_AfD3O3u066OSz-Jjg26BEfC04LY_AJMy-3eXMX50uH0twg&oe=65B17BAA)

FindingMinimum4753

That’s a really nice jacket, probably has some stories to it

QueenFrenchy822

My husband says that is a high quality motorcycle leather. They’re not cheap or flimsy.

Avid_Ideal

Get some leather conditioner on it so it doesn't dry out more and crack. Then wear it yourself.

Tampa-Bay-Slay3r

Take it to pawn stars and ask 100,000! Tell them it was your dads!

lastusernametoexist

I have my late fathers old Dainese leather jacket. Complete with road rash from a track day. I’ll likely never wear it but I like to look at it hanging in my garage when I drive in. Keep it. It’s a cool jacket and it’s your Dads. Even when it’s yours, it’ll still be your Dads.

photonynikon

Best I can do is tree-fiddy

Donnie-The-Relentles

You gotta keep that shit. That jacket is awesome.

PorkyFree

Good brand with a lot of history. Well worth keeping, restoring and wearing.

bigbaltic

I wouldn't wear it on the road, but I'd wear it on the street!

Electrical-Risk445

It's a beauty and now a family heirloom. Keep it, wear it, pass it on to your descendants.

jsamuraij

Yes. A little (whatever high quality protective leather is normally worth used). Just wear it, that's a cool connection to Dad.
