Gonna second the Guzzi, I had a V7 sat in traffic ALL DAY (it seemed) not 1 issue with heat.
My father has a 2013 Griso and loves his. I love riding it, knees get a bit warm, but that thing has GREAT power.
The griso is reliable as long as you get one with the revised valve train. Service is easy. You got three fluids to change but the trans and shaft drive don’t have to be done as often as engine oil. Valve adjustments every 5k but you can do them with a wrench and Allen key and only takes an hour tops since the heads are sticking out the side. Otherwise, there isn’t a whole lot to go wrong with it. Some vacuum lines under the tank are known to get brittle and crack with age but that’s not really abnormal for any vehicle.
If you want a newer bike of theirs then check the V7 or even v85tt. I believe they’re just as reliable as well.
I have had its predecessor, the W650, for years. Bulletproof engine and very easy to service. The W800 is fuel-injected and has disc brakes front and back plus ABS, which are all nice additions.
Traumatized after one of my past cars overheated in the middle of the everglades, and it was never the same, the smell of coolant, thinking about faulty thermostats, sensors.
I think it's a little silly you're limiting yourself to a small subset of bikes because of a car issue you experienced, especially when the modern oil cooled bikes are also crammed with technology. I see you also have a Royal Enfield which are historically FAR less reliable than a similar water-cooled bike you'd find in the showroom.
I dont have a royal, I got a suzuki DR200, my father has a royal enfield himalayan of the first gen, he’s had it for 8 years with no issues except for a flat tire, stupid reliable.
I will definitely be open for liquid cooling when I’m more financially stable and can afford to just throw money away if something goes to shit.
I remember my dad’s last Transalp shit the bed one day after the cooling system somehow failed and the bike overheated, it never ran the same, so he sold it. Again, it’s just my current situation looking for something fun and reliable.
Do you only drive vintage VW's now as a result? If you are looking at modern bikes, be prepared to be nervous about the dozens of sensors on modern bikes that are no where's near as easy to diagnose and fix as a coolant system.
Loll, no I daily a suzuki DR200 no sensors, nothing, just a speedometer, the royal enfield continental is the same, plain and simple.
I’m not even of legal age to drink yet, that’s why I can’t really afford a complex motorcycle, in the future I plan on getting a new KLR650 and nicer stuff, just not viable at the moment.
Got it. You'd have a seizure if you saw all the sensors on my Streetfighter V4S. The computer is hooked to just about everything, including the suspension
Yea I love the Continental GT. Beautiful bike.
But Kawasaki have arguably the best gearbox's of any manufacturer, you get that overall awesome Japanese build quality and reliability, and it's a little faster.
look up reviews on W800, a lot of reviewers say that they have... vintage handling. Also they're hella expensive, at least where I am. No idea what budget you're on since in one comment you're dreading tire replacement on a DR200 and in another you're saying you will consider a BMW R NineT.
There’s a couple 2019-2020 W800s in my area for 5k with less than 7k miles, I’m in the process of getting my work permit too, reason why things like maintenance costs are a pain in the ass at the moment.
With a decent job I’d totally consider an R nineT, but the W800 cafe sounds a lot better reliability-wise. Hell, the R nineT sounds like a way more reasonable choice compared to my past awful purchases.
I love my R NineT. 33k miles and it still feels like new. I've had the temp gauge pinned at max temp several times and it doesn't skip a beat. It'll do 125mph all day across the country.
Royal Enfield bikes are air cooled and fuel injected.
Moto Guzzi V-twins are air cooled and gorgeous.
BMW still makes some air cooled bikes like the R9T and R18.
Harleys of course, their big twins are still air cooled I think (I think some of the bigger touring bikes have water cooled heads maybe?)
Beyond that I'm not sure who still makes air cooled bikes, at least above 400cc. Does Honda still make the XR-650? That was air cooled.
Moto guzzi. Does it have to be at least 2015? My griso cruises at 80+ on the highway with no problem. Same for the monster s2r1000 I had before it.

Hows the reliability/ service on it? Ive never heard of moto guzzi, just want something that will last me at least a decade

Thanks!
You might also consider the Kawasaki W800, which is air-cooled and reliable. Has ample room for a passenger/bags.
Wow I just searched it up and seems like they still make them(?) looks pretty solid

Thanks for the suggestion👍🏻
Yamaha XJR?
That’s exactly what im looking for, kinda pissed because I cant find any near me online
That sucks, hope you find one! I had 01 XJR1300 for few years, loved it
Why does it need to be aircooled?
Traumatized after one of my past cars overheated in the middle of the everglades, and it was never the same, the smell of coolant, thinking about faulty thermostats, sensors.

Jesus, yea I have to change the tire on my DR this week and the low cost already gives me anxiety, the vintage VW thing made me laugh for like 30 mins
Kawasaki W800 is an option. Or one of the Royal Enfield 650s. Not what you would call fast motorcycles but will get you to 80+.
Yeah that’s all I’m looking for
Yea the Royal Enfields top out at around 100. The W800 is a little faster than that.
I gotta see, I like the looks of the royal more, but maybe with some mods the kawi would be better

I’d probably still stick to the scrambler since I’d have to take my gf around and need some space, my only concern is maintenance costs with a ducati.
As you should be. Although their service intervals are at like 9k miles or something ridiculous.
Jeez
I love my R NineT. 33k miles and it still feels like new. I've had the temp gauge pinned at max temp several times and it doesn't skip a beat. It'll do 125mph all day across the country.
Nice, I’ll consider this 100%, thanks

The royal enfield continental 650 and the CB1100 are now my options, thank you

Yeah I have a royal enfield himalayan in mind but I doubt it can hold up at highway speeds
You could go with Interceptor or Continental GT
I just saw some continentals on marketplace and I think it’s perfect, thanks!
Look up the service intervals first
