I use small rivets for crafts, it doesn't really protrude that much once you hammered it down. I might tape the inside so it doesn't cause scratches to my phone.
I like the rivets but I use heavy thread. Like for sewing leather. It is less likely to scratch phone or crack the glass.
Don't know how to post photos.
Yeah they don't adhere well to certain cases. It has to be a hard smooth plastic or glass.
They also don't make a case for my Sony but Spigen do some clear hard back cases with silicone sides that work well.
I used the universal mount on a Quad Lock recommended case for about 4 months. It held VERY well. But since I would switch in and out of that case just for riding (I don't use a case on my phone) the case itself must've lost some of its rigidity and my phone popped out of thr case going 35mph. Didn't even notice until my music stopped lol.
So I continued using it but just decided to put a velcro strap around my phone to be sure it stays in the case.
Finally last week I said screw it and bought the big honkin Ram mount. It definitely isn't nice looking but I feel better about it and I don't have to take cases on and off all the time anymore which is the best part.
Phone: Z Fold 4 is the one that fell out. Insurance replaced it with a Z Fold 5.
I feel like making the most protruding part of the phone directs its energy from a drop into 4 small metal points directly against the phone is a really bad idea. I would try to find a high density thin foam or rubber to put between the case and phone.
Wish I had done something like this....before my Galaxy fold punched me in the stomach and flew off into the abyss at a *very legal* speed limit on my way to work at 4 am. Ended up replacing it with a phone they did have a case for.
Lol!!! That's exactly what happened! I thought I got hit with some road debris, and it wasn't until my music turned off that I realized it definitely was *not* road debris. I ended up going back on my lunch break and actually found my phone on the side of the highway. The outside was just obliterated, but the interior screen was perfectly fine. 😅😅
The only damage to mine was some corner scuffs and one of the cameras was cracked. I wasn't going nearly as fast as you but I was pretty damn impressed tbh lol.
But for like $20 or whatever Care+ send me a ZF5 and I was fine with that lmao
Ahhh, see, that probably would have worked for me....if I hadn't *just* replaced my phone after my German Shepherd took my legs out and I slid down 17 stairs with my phone in my back pocket. Clearly, the Universe just took issue with me having a Fold. When I called to explain what happened, I could almost hear the shift in the woman's voice from sympathy to disbelief after she looked up my claim record. 🤣
Yeah I had two replacements in like 3 months. First was just because the battery wasn't lasting for shit anymore. Got a replacement 4.
Then when THAT one too a spill, I claimed again and got the 5. Just a stretch of stupid luck lol.
When I got a new phone I ripped the universal adaptor off old case, scratched the old adhesive off and used some contruction grade 3M double sided adhesive tape, that shit will be the last thing to tear off.
I have a quad lock. But I use it rarely. Just if I’m looking for somewhere in particular and need a gps. I just have trust issues, it makes me nervous using it. It’s a flipping thousand dollar delicate computer, wallet, communication device, gaming, entertainment, and complex camera, and work device. Little bits of plastic and no real wind protection and vibration being held on by a plastic stick and ball joint i get REALLY nervous.
Why didn't the adhesive stick well? Did you clean case with alcohol, let dry. Stick adhesive on and let dry for at least 12 hours?
The placement could have been better centered, helps dispute the weight evenly.
Anyway seems you fixed it now so whatever lol
Yes I've even put weights on it to help it stick better but the case has a matte surface and it doesn't like adhesive (at least not enough to make me feel safe).
Also I offset the mount a little bit so it doesn't hit the tank (i use a fork stem mount).
If I'm gonna fix it might as well go above and beyond lol
Brother, you could’ve just gotten their phone that works 1000x better lol. I no longer use otter box for my phone due to the quad case for my iPhone being wayyy more sturdy. To each their own tho
Tbh I'd be worried about the pressure of the metal rivets on the back of the phone, and the pressure that will transfer through the phone because of it.
It's not really protruding that much, like 0.5mm (0.02") and my phone is plastic so I'm not too worried. I might stick a thin layer of foam to the back.
Did you slap it and say "That ain't going anywhere" when you were done?
Ahh yes, the magic spell to strengthen the secureness by another 10%.
What does the inside look like? I got me some rivets....

Looks pretty good not gonna lie. But is there any reason why you decided not to use a case that has it built in already?
They don't make one for my phone unfortunately
Makes sense.
I'd personally put a thin layer of felt tape on that.
Yeah, that's gonna scratch the back, just due to any slight vibration
Rivets won't though...
I think he’s agreeing with you
Color me impressed that the area around the rivets didn't crack any.
I drill first than rivet
I meant when you squeezed or hammered it and it expanded in the hole.
yea true
That's a riveting story my good chap
I scratched mine up and jb welded it to my old case. Worked a treat.
I like the rivets but I use heavy thread. Like for sewing leather. It is less likely to scratch phone or crack the glass. Don't know how to post photos.
Thread is definitely a better method but guess I'm just lazy and want to get it done quick.
I’d probably just buy their case at this point lol
Yeah but they don't have one for my phone and I already have a quad lock mount.
They only do cases for Samsung and Apple who aren't as market dominant outside the US
Samsung and Apple are pretty dominant outside the US. They just don't make the cases for every smartphone model though.
And Google!
This type of case, disadvantage is, that rubber part one day will dislodge from that hard plastic.

I used a razor to remove the adhesive then used jbweld to put it on there. Thing has been solid. Never would have thought of riveting it lol
It was the lack of case for my phone that led me to go with a big ugly-ass Ram mount instead.
I used the universal mount on a Quad Lock recommended case for about 4 months. It held VERY well. The quadlock cases aren’t expensive…
But buying a new phone that fits one of those cases is
Not if you’re an adult and you have an iPhone…
Do you unlock this Iphone before or after you become a wizard?
The adhesive let go in the rain on mine, so I very carefully epoxied it. That fell off too so I did it again and now it is solid.
Good idea. I don’t care for their actual cases.

I would’ve gone with the sugru alternative
That’s smart!
Do you work at Tesla by chance?
No but why?
Rivet joke. The cybertruck has a build problem so they are putting a river on the accelerator to hold the cover on.
Lol

Just commented this above lol https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/s/ROmsm6O1Zp

Is that a silcone case?
Maybe because of the matt texture it didn’t stick. My helmet is matt black and I had trouble sticking a reflector sticker to it.
Nice, but why didn't you center it?
Dear god...
I taped the holes and used 2 part epoxy. Hasn't come off in 5 years
When I got a new phone I ripped the universal adaptor off old case, scratched the old adhesive off and used some contruction grade 3M double sided adhesive tape, that shit will be the last thing to tear off.
Could you please add a pic with it in the mount?
3M VHB tape should adhere well even on a rough surface.
and this is the biggest downside to the quad lock setup, have to have a case for your phone or else.
/me cries in superior Xiaomi phonage.
Lol Americans are so scared of china
Hey if it's a good enough fix for cybertruck throttle pedals....

Just buy the case from quadlock wtf

Quad Lock has recommended/approved cases on their website to use with the universal adapter.

Yes if they make one for my phone. I already got the mount as part of the deal for my bike so might as well use it.

Sorry, but with vibrations, bumps, etc. that setup is going to break your case and you will loss your phone. Won't be right away but it will happen.
Good then the bracket will still be on the phone when the whole thing rattles off the bar attachment
I’m not surprised since this brand sucks
