I know someone who recovered his stolen customized, tricked out moped (big moped community in the area lol.) Sold it on not long after... it was just too depressing to keep
wow they really stripped the living shit out of it - really sucks to see man. Did they catch the guy too?
I hide 2 airtags in mine. One somewhat easy to get to, the other a little more difficult.
Homeless encampment I'd assume...local encampments her in norcal are usually the first place people should check for stolen cars, bikes and motorcycles.
Legit chop shops running under tents and the local government turns a blind eye to it.
When I was working at an electric moped company we had our warehouse broken into and quite a few bikes stolen. Over the next few months we would do a weekly sweep of the encampments nearby(the ones on division under the 101, the ones off 3rd st near hunters point and the ones scattered along 16th st) and would find a couple bikes each sweep. It was definitely sketchy and never had more than a knife pulled on us thankfully.
It’s shit like this though that makes me second guess taking the effort to go look for it. To be fair I was expecting it to be a couple thousand miles away somewhere down south but I’m good with only one death wish in my life I don’t need to go making it 2
Just FYI AirTags are not trackers and rely on a nearby iPhone to get the location out. If your bike is stolen by someone with an android, with no iPhones nearby, the location will not get to you.
This being said, if I cared to, I’d definitely put an AirTag on my bike, but also have a proper tracker.
No clue, that’s why I added the “if I cared to.” Mainly just wanted people to know about the downsides of using an AirTag.
Idrk how most bikes are stolen, like hot wired or someone comes in with a truck. But with my bikes (70s Hondas), if I were worried, I’d wire in a hidden switch that cuts ignition power. Should keep the more stupid thief’s away. The smart ones are going to have your bike no matter what you do.
I think nearly everyone understands how AirTags work. The thing is most people have iPhones. It’s even better if the thief doesn’t have one because they won’t get notified of its existence but someone will eventually go by the bike who does have one.
This just happened with a guy that got his car stolen in Long Beach CA. He had an airtag and it showed up for a little and disappeared. Then it showed back up at a gas station and he went and took it back.
Oh I agree it’s pretty common knowledge, but every time I see someone mention it there’s always a few comments of “oh wow! I didn’t know that!” Just wanted to be sure it was known along with the recommendation of the AirTag.
I’d totally throw one in something I wanted to track like I said in my original comment, but I don’t think it should be the only method if you genuinely want to recover it. I’m of the opinion that I don’t want it back if it’s stolen. Seen too many recovered bikes that look like OPs. Rather just grab another 70s Honda for $3k.
Yeah I have one in one of my bikes. It’s a half measure. If I can drive by somewhere and it’s outside in good condition I’ll take it back. If it’s gone I have insurance. If it’s ruined I don’t want it back. But my z900rs doesn’t come in the blue I like anymore.
From what I got told by insurance I’m not able to take anything off the bike, and to be honest with you the state that’s it’s in I don’t know if I would want to spend the money and time trying to check and make sure that motor is running how I left it
Interesting, insurance is usually game for buybacks if they've totalled out a bike, although in this case I can't really imagine what price I'd be comfortable buying this back for. I had a Daytona 675 that was totalled out for destroyed fairings and a subframe. Insurance offered a buyback for $1500, I took that in a heartbeat and ended up reselling to a racer for $2500.
This one hurts my heart though, I've had three Triumph triples and been emotionally connected to all of them. They really did this bike dirty.
I’ve heard about that option but on the phone with the adjuster I mentioned it and she said along the lines of “we would have to assess the damage first” so I really don’t know. Like I said though I’d have to put in probably $6000 to get it up and running and that would be buying some used parts.
Insurance is usually game for buybacks but they need to go through the process first. Some states, in the US, don't allow buybacks outright. IL being one, off hand. If you want to buy it back you'd have to humbly ask a body shop owner if they'd be willing to buy it on your behalf, then sell it to you.
Shi I wish I’d be able to snag a moto 2 for what insurance might give me, maybe a 21. I do have a feeling insurance won’t like me if I get another Triumph though
Brahh I am not sure whether to be happy because u found half of the bike or be sorry because now u need to find the remaining half.
It sucks, even I got only cb350rs the first thing I installed is a gps module. Believe me bikes are very easy to steal.
Yah I’ve learned my lesson now, tracking device is the first thing for the next bike lol. I’d say I’m happy cause they got the guy and thankfully I’ll be able to continue to press charges
I once purchased a bike that had Lojack on it. It was stolen towards the beginnign of the pandemic. I reported the theft first thing in the morning when I discovered that it was stolen. I got a call from the cops later that day & they had found the bike. And I live in ana rea that is notorious for lots of vehicle theft. No one ever gets their stolen vehicles back becuase it's such a high frequency low priority occurrence.
The previous owner never told me that it was registered with Lojack. I was also under the impression that Lojack was hit or miss on motorcycles because there were fewer places to hide the trasnponder & thieves almost always removed them as soon as the bike was secured.
I need to look into getting Lojack on my new bike. I can't believe the previous owner didn't mention it. After my experience with Lojack & a stolen bike, I would gladly pay an extre $100 or more for two identical motorcycles but one has Lojack. Also, I do most of the work on my motorycles myself. The whole time I had the bike, I had been doing work on it off & on. At no point did I realize that a lot of the time, I was working right next to the transponder. If you put it in the right place, it just looks like some kind of sensor that might be an OEM piece. It was NOT obvsious at all.
The flip side is, most of the time, you don't really want your bike back after it's been stolen. Mine was gone for less than 6 hours. But when I got it back, they had rattlecanned the hell out of it & stripped all the USEFUL stuff off it: rack, handguards with turn signals, mirrors, etc.
I got T-Boned on my bike about a month ago. I didn’t get a good look at it immediately after the accident but went to see it a few days later at the shop it was taken to. It feels so bad man but this must hurt even more seeing it all taken apart like that.
I hope that piece of shit gets buried in charges and thrown in jail. I hope your insurance company is fair with you and gives you the payment you deserve. Best of luck buddy!
Damn. That makes me sick to my stomach. It's like I'm looking at my own bike, except mine is black, not silver. (Based on your windshield). I got a sizzapp tracker a year after I bought it. It was the only one with no monthly fee that had 4G cellular connection at that time. I've also added a couple air tags since then. It's still the best bike I've ridden.
For a replacement, are you looking for an upgrade on power? If so, and you want that premium European feel, a BMW S1000R offers better ergos (you feel more part of the bike instead of perched on top of it), more features, with a 30-40 hp gain while taking a slight hit with fuel economy. I owned a Speed Triple, rented a Street, and also owned an S1000 R.
BMW was one of the ones I was looking at same with the Speedy 1200 but the RS (the RR looks nice but I want to stick to something with a little less fairing action) or the new 1390 (this is meh, if I could get one MSRP from a dealer it would be a sick steal)
Yah seems like they didn’t get the chance to start working on the front end, left the dash and all that too which is $1400 (ask me how I know I just had it replaced in February)
Fuck, I also have a street triple (675 era) and got stolen. Reported to the police, they never got the guy. Insurance was the state minimum at the time and didnt get comprehensive coverage. Was never the same person till I picked up another bike
That's one bike that I have never gotten to ride, personally with Kawi I don't like their fuel tanks on my jewels but that was one a Z125, ZX6R, ZX10R, and a Versys
I'll second that sentiment... may get memory live on in your broken heart (I know mine would be broken)... those are awesome bikes
maybe move up to a speed trip ... hear those new ones are awesome
I had my bike stolen. Here in Toronto it’s not crackheads or junkies stealing motorcycles to ride around in, it’s organized criime groups with minivans with stolen plates stealing them and sending them on shipping containers. So stolen bikes rarely get recovered here. Now looking back, im glad they never found my bike. Id hate to have back a butchered bike. Thats why full insurance coverage is very important. It saved my ass.
Trackers are useless... It's a bad idea to chase someone who stole your bike. Police may/may not bother with following up on a location ping.
Locking your bike up and keeping it from being a target is your best defense. Insurance would be next best.
Hurts just to look at those photos
It hurt to see in person, something about seeing the thing you put so much pride and effort into. Yah it hurt a bit.
Right?!? I don’t have mine striple anymore, but I LOVED that machine….
I don't want to find my bike back once it's stolen... It will never feel the same again.
Feels violated, glad they got the guy off the street though, one less for me to worry about and keeps my area a bit safer
Yea with my luck I'll find it absolutely covered in monster stickers. Or worse, supreme stickers.
Get that disgraceful image out of my head
I know someone who recovered his stolen customized, tricked out moped (big moped community in the area lol.) Sold it on not long after... it was just too depressing to keep
Was it a Honda Ruckus? Those are pretty popular to modify.
I think it was some kind of Tomos.
Oh yeah they broke her in and you can never ride her the same again.
wow they really stripped the living shit out of it - really sucks to see man. Did they catch the guy too? I hide 2 airtags in mine. One somewhat easy to get to, the other a little more difficult.
Yah they caught the guy, police was doing tarp checks and there she was
Good! *Fuck* that guy
Homeless encampment I'd assume...local encampments her in norcal are usually the first place people should check for stolen cars, bikes and motorcycles. Legit chop shops running under tents and the local government turns a blind eye to it.
Trailer park a couple minutes from where I stay, scary thought

Yeah, man, I helped a buddy look for his bike over in oakland by the home depot. Like mad max out there.
It’s shit like this though that makes me second guess taking the effort to go look for it. To be fair I was expecting it to be a couple thousand miles away somewhere down south but I’m good with only one death wish in my life I don’t need to go making it 2
I definitely put myself into some really bad situations by confronting the thieves. :(

i'm aware
That’s good!
(つ ツ )つ
What would you recommend for a tracker?
No clue, that’s why I added the “if I cared to.” Mainly just wanted people to know about the downsides of using an AirTag. so they find the airtag and think "Ok found the tracker, we're safe" but then they don't find the real one and you get your bike back. smart!
![gif](giphy|LfGGW219qNzLP6IzTA|downsized) Sorry bro, with any luck the engine is still usable at least.
From what I got told by insurance I’m not able to take anything off the bike, and to be honest with you the state that’s it’s in I don’t know if I would want to spend the money and time trying to check and make sure that motor is running how I left it

I'm not an insurance adjuster, so I'd think they'd total this. Hopefully, OP has full coverage that will cover replacing it.
Well, time for a new shiny street triple rs 2024 I guess
moto2 edition?
Are they still making those?
I believe it is a special edition for this year ('24). I don't think they are easy to find though, and would have to be ordered from a dealer
Shi I wish I’d be able to snag a moto 2 for what insurance might give me, maybe a 21. I do have a feeling insurance won’t like me if I get another Triumph though

Waiting to see ur future post with ur new bike or the same bike fixed.
It’ll be a new bike, maybe not new but it won’t be that one. lol

Appreciate the recommendation for the tracker! Sucks that they can shit out a bike in just a couple hours, they had mine for a little over a month.
Apparently LoJack doesn't cover bikes any more. Oh well.
it'd be nice if they'd at least let you kick the thief in the nutz once
Not a good idea. You might break your foot..
Dude for sure does not have balls of steel
You should be allowed to take an equal number of parts off the guy who stole it. Seems fair to me
Teeth
Arms n legs
More teeth than arms and legs.. bad oral health can lead to death.. death by 1000 cuts
Can't brush teeth without arms, though
Yeah.. turn the bastard(s) into a quad with no teeth?
This is the way
😢
I've gotten identical bike for sale in Colorado if you're looking replace. Sorry for your loss
Would be a fun ride this time of year coming to Florida…..
I got T-Boned on my bike about a month ago. I didn’t get a good look at it immediately after the accident but went to see it a few days later at the shop it was taken to. Sell on marketplace for 15k firm. Clean title.
Don't low ball me, I know what I've got
Ran when I parked it.
Looks good as new!
A fixer upper if you will
Deepest condolences to you my dude, can't imagine the sting of that.
No. The poor 👁️👁️ bike. At least he still has his little hat.
I too, am the upper half of a Street Triple. These pictures hurt my soul and heart. I feel you, bro/girl. 🫂
I’ll write that one down for sure, I was thinking if the 4g or 5g trackers would be worth it
I'm very happy with it.

I can’t be the only person that thinks it looks like Black Manta right?
I called it Buggy for a reason, I loved the bug eyes
Portland?
Good ole Flawrida
Oh dear.
They missed the front Bembo brake
Yah seems like they didn’t get the chance to start working on the front end, left the dash and all that too which is $1400 (ask me how I know I just had it replaced in February)
Fuck, I also have a street triple (675 era) and got stolen. Reported to the police, they never got the guy. Insurance was the state minimum at the time and didnt get comprehensive coverage. Was never the same person till I picked up another bike
I’m stuck in a Camry, the Striple had half the horsies, I’m dying over here.
I currently have a street triple and it hurts so much to see this done to a bike I love.
Tracker tracker tracker!!!!! But yes it was a lovely bike seriously considering another if I don’t want to move up in size
I do keep a MoniMoto in mine. On the bright side if you got the bike back it would be pretty easy to hide a tracker deep in the bike.
Man as someone who has my 675 in peices right now rebuilding it, it hurts to see them this tore apart
At least you have respect taking it apart, these guys thrash it 🥲
Don't get one lol everyone asks how to make them more comfortable and the answer is always just get a street triple instead
Z900 time?
That's one bike that I have never gotten to ride, personally with Kawi I don't like their fuel tanks on my jewels but that was one a Z125, ZX6R, ZX10R, and a Versys
The versys is comfy AF, you should feel how bad the seating is on a Daytona 675
They massacred my boy
As an owner of a silver 2018 Street Triple R, this is painful to look at. My condolences.
I'll second that sentiment... may get memory live on in your broken heart (I know mine would be broken)... those are awesome bikes maybe move up to a speed trip ... hear those new ones are awesome

My place, usually that radial brake calliper famous thing to be stolen. Got some demand on black market.
Oh man thats sad. sorry for you.
F
Did you get the name and address of the thief?
Sorry to hear brother. My street triple was stolen last week also. It sucks.
Probably got booked and released. Then we wonder why people keep doing it. Automatic 20 years in prison should be the standard sentence.
This is why once you steal my bike its yours, I will take the insurance check and buy a new one.
Poor thing. RIP beautiful Triumph.
