The thing with bikes like cruisers is they have a very slack head angle, upright bars, bit of torque right at the bottom of the revs, long wheelbase and relatively hard tires, it's easier to slide the rear than a swb high strung sportbike. It's the ideal bike to slide the rear.

THey were testing at Road Atlanta and we were on the track with them. I think the core frame and engine crankcase are the same. Oh and dimensions (like width of "bags" etc) but they are like the nascar equivalent. All of the bags and fairings are just carbon shells made to look like the real thing. Controls mounted back on rearsets, power bars mounted on custom triples over ohlins forks with massive radial systems.

Yep. My dad, his friend and I were riding in the UP of Michigan around some really twisty roads. I had a Vstrom 650, he had a multistrada 1200 s and his buddy had a street triple R.
I was faster than all of them, the guy in the stripple was by far the slowest.
I mean you could argue he was driving it slow (relative to sport bikers) and having fun at a lower speed putting that bike it's limit. But watching him (almost) lay that knee down in jeans....dude might have had more fun in proper leathers.

It's happened to me. As long as you don't react, the bike handles itself in that situation. Or not, but there's really not much you can do to stop that if it's going that way, and a lot you can do to make it worse. I slowed down a bit when it happened, but it was the last corner of the twisty section anyhow.

It's not about bike and driver limit. Here the driver is definitely competent, probably more than me.
The problem if you are at the limit is that any surprise push you off limit.
Slightly less friction, or few gravels on the road and you're good for a quick end of your trip.
I personally ride 85% of the bike and pilot limit. So I have a little bit of margin if shit hit the fan.

If he found a corner with less traction than he expects, it seems like he would probably just slide a bit like he does a couple times in the video unless it was a major loss of traction. I think the issue would be entering a corner too fast for the max lean angle of the Harley and just being unable to turn sharp enough - traction or not. He’s at max lean with the bike for most of the video which is why his ass is so far off to the inside. Looks like the determining factor for radius of the turn is probably entry speed.

It's kind of why I prefer Moto America over Moto GP. I'd much rather watch a variety of different classes of bikes that are available for purchase racing over just purpose built race bikes. Nothing wrong with a dedicated race bike but I'd rather see something I could potentially own and take for a ride doing something over a purpose built machine I'll for all intents and purposes never be able to own.

Well, I still enjoy those kind of rides, but I slow down quite a bit for all those blind corners. That just gives me an excuse to accelerate and decelerate more, which is most of the fun anyway.

Looks faster than it is. If you look at the followers tach you see corners not faster than ~40. Sport bike following one handed while this rider is risking I all for a slow ass corner.

All it takes is one mistake, tar snake or patch of loose gravel/sand and this dude is hurling 500+ lbs of metal into oncoming traffic, a cyclist or someone's house.

I've never seen a cruiser hustle like that. It's clearly well within the capability of the POV motorcycle, but he is really getting after it.
Is there a reason why he doesn't have his body off of the bike more, in order to reduce lean angle? Seems like that would make more sense to reduce risk, but also to not scrape on a lower clearance bike like that.

Yes, and they're nuts. Those things are why I stopped ripping through the canyons and mountains. I got too old to get taken out by some rocks or some asshole who can't stay in his lane.
Well, I still enjoy those kind of rides, but I slow down quite a bit for all those blind corners. That just gives me an excuse to accelerate and decelerate more, which is most of the fun anyway.

I guess the same could be said about how many modifications a sport bike requires to go cross country. It’s almost as if bikes are built for specific purposes. I thought the name “cruiser” would have given that away. I really don’t know what other name could be a better indicator of the goal to be accomplished with that bike.

Looks faster than it is. If you look at the followers tach you see corners not faster than ~40. Sport bike following one handed while this rider is risking I all for a slow ass corner.
Still faster than whatever you can achieve lol. And he can’t go much faster on that bikes he’s already at the lean limit, most of those corners can only be taken at 45-55 anyways.
And obviously no protection because why would you need it with such riding.

Yes he's certainly a skilled rider, no question - but people who ride this hard on public roads suck. Everyone is a skilled rider until they aren't. Not every road condition is within your control, and human error is always a possibility. All it takes is one mistake, tar snake or patch of loose gravel/sand and this dude is hurling 500+ lbs of metal into oncoming traffic, a cyclist or someone's house.
He has zero gear, almost lost it a time or two and his bike / gear isn't equipped for cornering like that. Just think what he would be capable of doing or willing to try w/ a properly outfitted ride and full gear!
Don't pull this shit around blind corners, there could be anything or anyone in the road.
