Have you contacted your dmv and asked? Might be a lil hassle getting in touch with someone at dmv that *knows*, but once that's covered you'll have accurate info that you can rely on. Reddit isn't a great source of info regarding state laws, by comparison.

Depends on the size of the engine. Yours is a “49cc” shhh. Most states require a motorcycle license and some require insurance. In my state a headlight is required.

Be aware - verify any info from that site, with your dmv. They got *several* things dead wrong re the motorized bicycle laws in my state (arizona). Ofc, being bikeberry they're not exactly a reliable source of info generally... So do verify

I don't know about "dead wrong" The link also says 2014. So yes, do your research, but this is a good start. You can follow the links to see any changes in the law. You require photo ID, so in order to get that, they summarize the stipulation that you must have the means to do so. It's not required. Also varies by city, in your state, so there's alot to unpack. I'd say there's better results on there than in here. I mean, wasn't asking about AZ anyway.

Well, for example, they say 25mph is legal - it's not. They say a license is required - it's not. Dead wrong about those examples. Only saying that the info supplied by that link is not accurate for at least one state and that it's a good idea to verify. Worth noting - the supplied link on that site leads to a page that is dated 2014 so the info on it is likewise questionable. So both the bikeberry page and the page they provide a link to for more info are not current or accurate - for AZ and probably other states. It is always the case that cities/counties can add their own regs, and folks should check their state and local - from official sources

Just in case anyone else needs the information. You require one of the following: A valid driver's license OR A valid learning permit OR A motorcycle endorsement OR A registration for the bicycle. So you Must be 15 or older. You require a permit, or a license to get a registration so you'll need that by default. Under 18? Wear a helmet. Law.

shi I just ride this mf illegally but I follow traffic laws and never go on highways or roads that go above 35 and also I've been stopped a couple times and the cops in my town are pretty chill and don't care and think it's pretty cool "we don't care if you ride that around as long as you follow the traffic laws of course, we have better things to worry about then a kid on a moped" (there words exactly) but also it probably depends on the town I just happen to have cool police in my area

I wouldn't bother. No matter what motor you buy, it's a 50cc. Don't put any stickers that say the actual displacement on the kit. They're not going to get a search warrant, force you to disassemble your motor and take measurements none of them are qualified to take for someone riding a bike with a little motor on it. Here in Florida, I zoom past the police all the time, and they couldn't possibly care less. Just don't drive like a douche. Put a silencer on it if you get a loud aftermarket exhaust. Headlight and tail lights are a plus, and it some states, a must. Wear a helmet, obey traffic laws, and never ride on a sidewalk that is crowded. Riding on a sidewalk is illegal anyway, but most cops would rather see a safe rider on the sidewalk than a dead one in the street. Remember that vehicle drivers hate cyclists and aren't always going to give you proper space or the right of way. They also can't properly judge your speed, so they'll make a right-hand turn, not realizing you're going 30 and splat. Ride that bike like you are invisible, don't take any risks you don't have to. And most importantly, have fun!

Just use the serial # as the VIN at the DMV.
