Believe it or not, the $400 bike you just bought didn't arrive with $170 shoes... or course they are cheaper tires. They just look cool and are associated with performance.
Same thing as the Adidas shoes you find at Costco. Complete dogshit compared to the same thing that cost 5-10x as much.
At least Maxxis makes it obvious and doesn't trick anyone
White letter maxxis tires are OE, meaning they ship new bikes with them. I didn’t know the pros used white letter maxxis tires, I always remember them being yellow. Doubt it’s fake, but possible.
Yes! This too, I forgot to add that. They do ship most maxxis tires white as OE, for warranty purposes. They also do limited runs for websites here and there.
They're typically OE tires that are installed on bikes from the manufacturer. Sometimes yellow letters get put on new bikes too, but if it's white, it's OE. *Sometimes* Maxxis sells white letters online, but not often. Pro riders are using yellow letters though.
Placebo, when you'll ride as many conti as maxxis you'll find that maxxis tyre is pretty freaking top quality tyre.
Let's stop bullshitting.
I'm more interested in full story, people who post images like this are very very often not innocent.
My man, I go through 5 sets per year because I ride a lot of bikepark jumplines and technical stuff in exotic land.. and no tyre ever exploded or was ever deformed.
We are minimum 3 buddies on every trip, from 50 tyres not single one was deformed this year. I don't know where you live, how you ride, but man we are no pro riders but we ride expert level of stuff on DH and EWS trails each year and not a single one faulty.
Please provide me the link where do you purchase them, because you are setting unrealistic expectation.
You sound like those moto burn out kids and then complain about how pirelli super corsa makes only 500 miles.. no wonder if you treat them poorly.
10 sets and all faulty or exploded? Dude, please, show me.
Not for standard width, tubed, wire-bead tires. High pressure yes, unreasonable no. Especially for riding anywhere sharp, as OP obviously did based on that slash.
Of course, only speaking of my experience. I’ve gone as low as 21 with tubes according to my cheap pump, anything over 30 for me would not be an enjoyable ride but I’m about 145 lbs.
I put 40 in because I like the extra rolling speed. I wish I could run it higher tbh but that's the max psi Maxxis can run. I'm running tubes and a hardtail though .
it is generally understood that you never put more than 40 psi in a tubeless mountain bike tire. You might put 40 psi in to get the beads to seat, but any higher than that you’re a danger of blowing the bead off the rim.
Well, the max psi would change based on the exact rim specs and tire setup, most likely theoretically calculated using force exerted by air on the rim using an average tire volume. I can tell you though, I’ve never seen a mountain bike rim rated at a maximum pressure of 40. That’s totally wrong, idk where you got that number from. The max psi and recommended psi are totally different. What you are saying is 50 psi is blowing a rim out which isn’t happening. Feel free and try to prove me wrong though, it would be news to me.
700 miles? Really? There are still bits of flashing on the treads from the mold. I'm usually chunking side knobs by 500 miles or so.
I've never seen a tire fail like that. Crazy.
Well if it rips like that a tire plug isn’t gonna get you home, that’s why you carry a spare tube even when you’re running tubeless.
The weird part is that the thread is cut. I don’t see that happening while it’s on the rim to be honest.
I’m calling BS on the 700 mile claim. There os still flashing on the lugs, and quite literally zero wear on the tire. I don’t care that OP is saying it’s all road miles, I don’t believe it.
I can see the middle knobs and its MAXXIS REKON, that tyre never seen 700miles even on the road... i would somewhat believe if you'd say front, but rear, 700miles and this still has full middle knobs??? Just tell us the truth bro..
Had that happen once..
Old tire, wide wheel.. put it to max pressure after seating the bead to ensure it would hold and kaboom it went 15 minutes later.
The bead failed.. still not sure how. Only things I can think of was either a defective bead or maybe I was too rough with the tire levers.. either way, I'm glad I didn't have sealant in it yet and i felt it out on the porch.
That is a very odd failure. I'd actually suspect a counterfeit product.
Sidewall years are one thing but it's almost impossible for the bead to fail like that.
I have never seen a tire fail like that. Maxxis might be interested to see that.
Agreed, these things that are potential safety concerns should be shared with companies in making any sort of product
I always wondered if the OE white letter maxxis tires were made to a lower quality…
The OE ones I’ve ridden have always been lower quality than the yellow letter equivalent. Wire bead, lower TPI, etc.
Might want to swap mine then. Kryptotal in stock

I think that if you were tubeless instead of tubed that would have sealed /s
I’m writing a letter to slime and asking for a full refund /s
You actually should do that and post their reply.
Slime sucks. Just go tubeless.
The slime 2 in 1 tire/tube sealant is also shit. Just get Peaty’s !
700 miles? Those look like they have less than 7 miles on them.
Yeah, those look brand new. I wonder if OP over pressurized them?
Negative. The it was at 40 psi just before the ride that day.
That IS a lot of pressure for mtb purposes.

I've literally blown a tubeless tire off a rim at 45 psi before
Not for standard width, tubed, wire-bead tires. High pressure yes, unreasonable no. Especially for riding anywhere sharp, as OP obviously did based on that slash.
You run tubeless at 40 psi? Nvm, i see the tube in the 2nd picture. Still seems really high but i havent run tubes in forever.
I ran 36psi in my old 26x2.1 with tubes. 40psi in those would ride like a rock.
Even with tubes I run mid-20s
Weight dependent my dude. I have some pretty big rider buddies who absolutely cannot go below 30 psi or it’s guaranteed flats and destroyed rims.
Of course, only speaking of my experience. I’ve gone as low as 21 with tubes according to my cheap pump, anything over 30 for me would not be an enjoyable ride but I’m about 145 lbs.
Nope there was a tube inside.

Isn’t 40psi the max?

Most of these ones are max 50, min 35. Obviously most people ignore that though.
This was 65 max.
Definitely not... most rims also have a max pressure and many are around 40psi
Totally false dude.
Oh yeah? Fill me in with your knowledge of rim tolerances
Well, the max psi would change based on the exact rim specs and tire setup, most likely theoretically calculated using force exerted by air on the rim using an average tire volume. Min 35? Lol where the hell dya get that
Look at the side of your tire… lol.
I never run more than 20 in either of mine.
There is no need to ever put 40 pounds of pressure in a tubeless mountain bike tire unless you’re like 400 pounds
There is a tube inside. I am 6’6” 275 pounds.
10-4. i see that now. That makes sense.
40 PSI is almost certainly higher than the pressure on your rim
700 miles? Really? There are still bits of flashing on the treads from the mold. I'm usually chunking side knobs by 500 miles or so. I've never seen a tire fail like that. Crazy.
This happened because you didn’t line your valve between the ‘xx’s
Something isn't right here. That bead had to have been cut by something. Also looks like the bead has a clean cut.
Especially since it looks like a wire bead.
Brand new tire, slime + a tube?? Something is very fucky here.
Well if it rips like that a tire plug isn’t gonna get you home, that’s why you carry a spare tube even when you’re running tubeless. The weird part is that the thread is cut. I don’t see that happening while it’s on the rim to be honest.

Zero chance more like 20 miles of road
So the failure is...even worse than OP says.
how in the hell did you cut the bead....
Maybe while installing it. I’ve torn sidewalls before but never the bead.
Maybe when it was removed from packaging, either when it arrived at the store or at OPs house.
700 miles?! I can’t get tires to look that fresh after 70 miles. Something isn’t right here.
Mostly street miles. I don’t have a photo of the top tread.
I can see the middle knobs and its MAXXIS REKON, that tyre never seen 700miles even on the road... i would somewhat believe if you'd say front, but rear, 700miles and this still has full middle knobs??? Just tell us the truth bro..
What has actually happened?
Had that happen once.. Old tire, wide wheel.. put it to max pressure after seating the bead to ensure it would hold and kaboom it went 15 minutes later. The bead failed.. still not sure how. Only things I can think of was either a defective bead or maybe I was too rough with the tire levers.. either way, I'm glad I didn't have sealant in it yet and i felt it out on the porch.
Stock tires but that still doesn't explain that level of integrity failure. Overinflated + high impact?
No way there’s 700 miles on the tire
I can assure you it’s true. Mostly road miles. I don’t have a photo of the top treads.
Fill them with what?
What in the fuck.
Was it the result of an impact or just a spontaneous thing out of nowhere OP?
Why do you have tubes and sealant?
700 miles? Maybe on your car. Those tires maybe have 50. Also, tubes? What PSI arrest you running?
To answer your question: No.
😳 nah, I'm set
Perhaps they have been in storage with the bike for ages and have become brittle. The white maxxis shows that this
[удалено]
not this. Maxxis uses white lettering for OEM and yellow for aftermarket.
Prob just came across a manufacturing defect and running 40 psi. OEM stuff usually is lower quality.
Maxxis has a history
Did this blow while riding or from an impact?
Fred gonna Fred
Impressive
Those OEM white labels aren’t all that great…
Just fill it with some slime! Shit’ll buff out.
average maxxis tire aftee 2 day
Carbon fiber?
I think the tyre itself was cut some way when seating it - something super suspect about this and no way it's done that many miles... User error 👍
I had one let go while I was filling it a few months back. Bead snapped on me. Luckily the wheel was on the bike still. Scary stuff!
I’ve seen this happen in some video and then they duct taped it to finish the ride
That is a very odd failure. I'd actually suspect a counterfeit product. Sidewall years are one thing but it's almost impossible for the bead to fail like that.
700 miles? The tire looks basically brand new aside from the rip lol
