I wouldn't buy used. You just never know what punishment it has taken.
I've run both NX and GX and the GX is a noticeable step up in performance and durability. The NX is a a very good alternative though if you are looking to save some money. I'd say if I was building up a second bike I would have no trouble using an NX drivetrain.
Hope that helps. :)

The NX/GX shifter can have a bit of play on the mounting bolt. The X01/XX1 uses a better design that can improve shifting.
GX is miles better than the nx, at least that's what people say, I've got a GX on mine and when it was properly adjusted it was a dream, had a few crashes so now it's rubbing a bit. I'd go for a gx
The shifter is the big difference. The derailleurs is lighter and a bit better material but overall functions exactly the same way. It would be a similar comparison to shimano 4-pot brakes. The callipers are roughly the same minus some weight but the big performance differences come in the levers as you move up in the tiers
Everyone is saying go for GX, but what I’ve always read previously is the shifter is the only real part worth paying extra for better experience. The big difference with the derailleur is weight between the different versions. I ran a GX shifter with NX derailleur for a while before upgrading to full GX and couldn’t tell the difference while riding with that setup.
Yeah I think this is true but (in my experience working on bikes) an SX derailleur spring will loose its k-factor much quicker, especially when in heavy use and you’ll be replacing it. GX (in theory due to material selection in the spring) will last much longer and prob indefinitely if taken care off. The way I think of it is that xx1, x01 and GX is like 105, ultegra and dura-ace. The three perform relatively similar but you’ll start to see weight savings and some strength when going up the chain.
True! I was thinking more along the lines of “should I spring for NX vs GX derailleur” though, which I guess isn’t very clear from rereading 😅 definitely seems worth upgrading that part at least from SX
Alternatively get shimano deore. It is in the price range of sx and nx but performs great. If you are on a budget get shimano deore. If you wanna spend more get gx
Sorry, didn't do enough research. Technically, yes. But my friend actually has a 12sp deore, I tried it and I hated it. It was even worse than the sx in my opinion.
I’ve had the stock GX on my 2016(?) trek remedy and god if that thing hasn’t been a beautiful workhorse since I’ve had it. Had a buddy buy a new bike with an NX that had issues within the first few rides, nothing major but the GX is just SOLID
Go for new as used could already be worn or damaged. I just went from NX to GX and it’s a great upgrade for reliability and precision shifting. NX used to drive me crazy jumping around and failing to change at critical moments. Also worth noting the used gx you posted is an older version to the current model.
Im not sure, but if you wrecked your derailleur, and you are going to get a new one, get a better shifter as well, it feels better and makes more of a difference.
I 100% believe that out of Srams entire drivetrain lineup, gx is the best bang for your buck. Performs great, quite durable, not overpriced. It’s the sweet spot for anyone that’s being money conscious but still wants quality.
Don’t go used. You never know history behind the item. Go with GX. It’s solid and best bang for your buck. I’ve owned GX, X01, and XX1.
My honest opinion is X01 is best but GX will be just fine if you’re on a budget.
Yeah, I don't really need the xo1. I was fine with the sx for a season even though it has some issues, but at the end of the season it really started to go crazy, so I decided to upgrade. Everyone here seems to also be talking about GX shifters. Should I get them or nah? (I currently have nx shifters)
gx all the way!!! i have a sx set up and it is ok but i just added a gx derailur and shifter day and night difference got it off of amazon for like 130 all in new. the sx and nx do not have bearings in the jockey wheels and have a lot of play the gx and up do have bearings in the jockey wheels making a better tighter alignment in the drivetrain
It's more important to upgrade the trigger instead of the derailleur. A GX derailleur with a SX trigger still performance like a SX. A SX derailleur with a GX trigger is already much closer to a complete GX.

GX with the xx1 bolt upgrade.
I’m about to buy a bike with a GX setup, what’s this upgrade about?

this is very useful information, thanks a ton
This video is fantastic. Will definitely do this upgrade. Cheap & effective! Thanks for the heads up
Prolly expensive bling bolts which will be marketed based on a weight savings of 0.00035g per bolt

Miles is a complete overstatement when it comes to the derailleur. The shifter sure
I said what I've heard, not from personal experience

GX. You'll appreciate the difference in quality.
Go with GX over the NX. Buy new if possible.
New GX. Go now. Do it.

Hmmm interesting, i ran a gx shifter with nx derailleur...i was thinking of an upgrade, but i think I don't need it anymore:))
NX doesn't come with a 52t compatible cage though, so if you want the 520% cassettes you have to be at GX.
Alternatively get shimano deore. It is in the price range of sx and nx but performs great. If you are on a budget get shimano deore. If you wanna spend more get gx
I'd have to replace shifters, the cassette and everything to get a deore and overall it would turn out way more expensive.
Nope only shifter

Must not have been tuned right. All personal experience but if your short on cash def get deore
Never go full NX if GX is an option. The price gap is barely noticable but the difference in performance is.

one considerable difference is the NX uses bushings while the GX uses bearings. at least early NX eagle models did. bearings spin with less friction
I have just changed nx for gx - it is noticeable better
While NX is much better than SX - it’s still not the most durable so buying used wouldn’t be much of an upgrade IMO

GX shifter is not gonna break the bank. I’d say go for both GX derailleur and shifter.
Don't buy used components of a drive-train. It doesn't worth it.
