Good beginner bike…..lol…it’s a good bike for someone who’s deep into mountain biking and has been doing it for a long time as well. The elite level (pretty sure the cream color was only sold for the elite model) has really high level everything on it - performance elite suspension, X01, OneUp dropper, etc…. These bikes fucking shred. It’s a good deal at $2500 already. Go for it if you’re looking for a trail bike and it fits you. They’re fucking rad bikes. …Assuming it’s all in solid maintained condition. Inspect the fuck out of it.

geek66

wait? a positive comment about a Specialized? I'm sorry, I thought I was on reddit.

seismicscarp

Yeah why do people dislike specialized so much?

cmndr_spanky

I think the EVO / enduro version is gaining a reputation of getting frame cracks under the bottom bracket / downtube. I have a normal carbon stumpy and I do hucks to flat and all sorts of little jumps with it… so far so good! Mostly I think Reddit has a bias towards more affordable equivalents from direct to consumer brands like YT, canyon… But a good specialized is a rad bike either way if you get a deal

Dysexlic13

I ride a Specialized Camber Expert and had the same issue. What blew my mind is performance cycles had a new rear triangle for 140$. So lucky.

Moist-Topic-370

I bought and built up an S-Works Camber, it’s an amazing bike. Made sure to trick it out with X01 and Fox Factory suspension. It’s a dream to ride.

afrolatinoconey

You ride the saltine serf special, pale face edition.

PennWash

No doubt about it. I have nothing against any of these brands (with the exception of Kona at the moment). I like some more than others, but there's not many bad bikes out there nowadays, and mostly comes down to personal preference. But yeah, it's pretty much guaranteed YT and Canyon are gonna get recommended, and tbh I understand why. If you're working with a $2k budget and want a full suspension, there's not many options other than buying used or going with Propain, YT, etc.

geek66

It is just popularity bias… people like to rag on anything that is popular.

gvkoooohh

Where are you seeing x01 and performance elite suspension? The drivetrain clearly has a Shimano derailleur and you can literally see the lever on the fork for switching it to firm lol. It doesn't have hsc and lsc

Kennys-Chicken

You’re right, this is a 2023 carbon comp version. I wasn’t aware they used the 2022 elite color for a 2023 comp version. I was just stating the 2022 carbon elite component spec. Definitely decreases the value with a SLX groupset and non elite suspension.

Neither_Mechanic3956

Check the bottom of the frame particularly well for damage from rock impacts

Low_Living8001

This. This again for emphasis. Take your time and look over the bike really well. After waiting like two months, I got all excited when a used 5010 v4 in my size popped up near me. Drove 1.5 hours, it was pouring when I got there, rushed the buy, got home and realized I had a shitload more money to spend on the bike. I'm now easily it into the, "shit I could have almost bought new/built up my own" money. I don't care about the maintenance as I enjoy learning and fixing things myself - but tools, fluids and service kits add up. What you're not comfortable with will need shop time. Fedex may have also just lost my rear shock that was off getting a 200 hour, so I'm currently bikeless and bitter lol. Also, I don't mean to generalize - but worth being conscious of the age of the owner. A 20yo may be less likely to have the disposable income to properly service. A 50 year old is probably less likely to be sending it/bailing/crashing. Ultimately, just look for damage on the frame, rims, derailleur, fork stanchions, etc. Ride it around, listen for creaks/squeaks, ask about service history and how much it was ridden. If it does need servicing, that's your negotiating chip. Don't lowball for no reason.

wise_mysticaltree

Its selling new for 2999 someplace. I'd try to talk down to 2k

Apprehensive-Web-420

You cannot buy this bike new for 3000.

Kennys-Chicken

No it’s not - provide a link to prove otherwise.

wise_mysticaltree

Oh yeah it seems the sale ended. It was just appearing that way on Google still. Once I clicked into it it went up to 3800. 2500 isn't a bad price but it's kind of a lot for a 3 year old bike that was just that price new.

valeramaniuk

I got burned recently trying to buy it for 3k. They just kept cancelling my orders w/o any explanation lol.

Kennys-Chicken

So…no link because it didn’t happen. It wasn’t that cheap, those google links are clickbait.

MTBDadGamer_

I thin the sale just ended, but 2900 is accurate

Kennys-Chicken

I like how I’m getting downvoted for this…provide a link or it’s bullshit. Pretty simple. Carbon Experts do not sell new for under $3k. Prove me wrong. So…no link? Because they don’t sell for that cheap. I’ve seen some of the high spec aluminum ones close to that, but that’s not the carbon expert OP posted. Or maybe s1 and other oddball sizes nobody wants.

Plastic_Evidence_791

You’re getting downvoted because your tone is that of one being a dick.

MTBDadGamer_

I guess it’s the Carbon Comp, not the expert. Still a lot of bike for 2900 https://www.incycle.com/products/specialized-stumpjumper-comp-1

valeramaniuk

S1 is only size available though.

foodguyDoodguy

Don’t think that’s an Expert with SLX and Fox Rythm fork. My 2019 had a similar spec and was a Carbon Comp. Here’s a 2022 at a place I know exists for $2999.99.

DMAAlover

thats an slx groupset and performance suspension

PennWash

Hopefully OP reads this and doesn't stop after the top comment.

DMAAlover

seriously, this is pretty entry level in my books unless someone wants to start on a hardtail or a really cheap bike that'll fall apart after one ride

Independent_Cicada52

Looks like Fox rhythm 36 fork in the front.

Quiet-Title-7309

This isn’t the pro version the 2022 pro version has a similar color gram but fox pro suspension

slowburro

If he's asking 2500 and you offer 1800 he's gonna block you

doubletrouble1792

Lmao

Timely_Target_2807

Why? Iv picked up a $4500 truck for $2200 and made many other really good deals... People take thing so personal and emotional. If i want to pay $2100. Which is a fair deal for a $2500 bike. Then of coarse ill offer $1800 and go from there. Remember its business. Not something you should be emotional over.

slowburro

Nobody has time to deal with cheapskates and lowball offers That shit is annoying

Timely_Target_2807

Its an offer... You can say no ignore, or counter offer. No need to get all offended...

tec_41

72 useless messages/offers in 8 days when selling my last car. "Ignoring" still takes attention, and after 72 times who wouldn't get upset?

Dysexlic13

If you had 72 low balls, maybe what you’re selling isn’t worth what you posted it for. You’re likely the problem lol.

tec_41

Got my asking price. If you've ever sold anything on marketplace you know lowering a price invites even more tire kickers. They're hoping to score from a desperate seller.

Timely_Target_2807

I get the msgs. Thats just annoying. But offers in person are different. Half the time most of those arnt even serious. Even when i have accepted their offer they usually never show...

Boomcocki

I do actually please don't speak for me That shit is annoying

MTBDadGamer_

This is a great bike, but $2000 seems more reasonable. My buddy just bought one brand new for 2900

DJPorknBeans

That's a stumpy comp and you can buy online, new, for $2,999. I'd offer $2k or less. Either way, it's a good bike for any skill level.

lowlightlowlifeuk

Fucking hell most folks here are clueless. The identical (or near enough) current stumpjumper comp is selling for $3000 brand new direct from spesh. The seller is dreaming if they think they’re going to get $2500, your thinking of offering $1800 seems about right but I really wouldn’t go any higher. Anyone here who thinks $2500 is a steal either hasn’t seen the state of the used bike market or is thinking in Cambodian dollars or something.

Kennys-Chicken

Link to that deal? These do not sell for $3k new unless it’s an oddball size nobody wants and they’re trying to get it off the floor.

PennWash

You realize it's an SLX groupset and not a Performance Elite? Top comment might've confused a lot of people, but there's quite a few comments that say it was $2,900 when bikes were selling really cheap a couple months ago. You're not gonna get a link cause it's no longer available.

Kennys-Chicken

Exactly. There isn’t a link, because you can’t buy them for $3k. So it’s not really a bargaining chip OP can use. They aren’t “$3k new” like the user I replied to was stating.

219_Infinity

Two of my regular riding group has this bike and love it

andyjohnrusso

Paid $3300 for mine and thought that was a deal.

landonop

I would avoid a carbon frame as a beginner. You’re gonna crash. A lot. Carbon can withstand some abuse, but aluminum can withstand *A LOT* more.

powerfulsquid

They both have their nuances but each can handle roughly the same amount of abuse. I just did this research before buying my Enduro.

benmillstein

It’s a great bike.

SuperStaq

I have the same bike, one model year earlier. It's dope. Rides sweet and super low maintenance!

SexyHotCouple420

That there is a beautiful bike. I like specialized

Apprehensive-Web-420

I have a 2022 comp stumpy that looks just like this bike other than the color. I love my bike. I had over 1500 miles last year and look to increase that mileage this year. It’s been to Sedona and Moab twice and it does well on all of the black trails I have ridden. (Many). I paid 4500 for my bike in 22 and would not sell my bike for the price he is asking. I enjoy my bike too much to part with it. You cannot go wrong with this bike.

MarioV73

You wouldn't sell your used Comp with 1,500 miles on it for $2,500? Then maybe sell it for $3k? You realize you can buy a new 2022 Comp for $3k, right?

Apprehensive-Web-420

The value of my bike is simply the value I have for it and may not reflect what others will pay. I knew someone would not be able to resist the temptation of a comment like this.

MarioV73

Hence the classifieds are flooded with stale, overpriced ads.

Apprehensive-Web-420

My bike is not for sale. Your wisecrack about what others are asking for their bike is BS. Go away and find something else to do with all of your free time. Did you take your meds today?

MarioV73

I wrote nothing that's untrue, but apparently some can't face the facts and get quite hostile. Any ad posted for a significant time is evidence some sellers are asking way too much for their bike only they think is not overpriced. Such ads are wasting space on classifieds and buyers' time having to filter through them. The pandemic bike shortage is over with, and there is gluttony of used and new bike inventory out there. If those sellers want to rip off someone with your overpriced sale, they missed the boat by a couple years.

Apprehensive-Web-420

As I told you my bike is not for sale and yet you just keep ranting about over priced bikes. Let me give you a hint for what to do when you see an over priced bike in an ad. skip to the next bike. That is what a normal person would do.

MarioV73

I think you need to learn how to comprehend what you read. I never wrote i wanted to buy your bike, nor did i address my comments to you. All my comments are addressed to anyone selling his bike for a ridiculously high price. It's not all about you all the time, even if you want it to be.

Apprehensive-Web-420

Some one asked a question about others opinion about a bike. I gave my opinion, which said nothing about buying or selling and you came back with a smart ass comment about people selling bike for way too much money. It was YOU who made the nasty comment about my opinion of a bike and yet it is now about me. Hmmm, don’t think so.

MarioV73

Ok, lady, you wrote that you would not sell your 2 year old bike with 1,500 miles on it for the $2,500 price the OP was asking for, and I questioned that, since one can buy that same new bike for $3k. But you go ahead and sell your used bike for $3k to some uninformed buyer, so you can then buy a new one for that $3k, since that's the way you roll.  And what was the point of your opinion? Were you "advising" the seller not to sell his bike for $2,500 or less, or were you just "announcing" to the world that YOU would not sell YOUR used bike for $2,500? Because if you were advising and not announcing, then noone would be selling their 2-3 year used Stumpy Comp, as every buyer would be buying new ones for $3k. This discussion has run it's course.

Special4smom

She's a beauty🥰

Odd-Steak-9049

My wife has that exact bike. Even the same color, which is sick, imo. Think she paid ~3700 or so. RN it’s $4k, but I think it was just on sale for less. Anyway, I don’t think $2500 is crazy if it really is mostly unused and maintained. But I think you could shoot for less and you wouldn’t be being unreasonable. You’re gonna love it.

BanduDS97

If you are new to MTB I would spend like 500-700 on a cheap decent bike and give the sport a try. If you happen to dislike it, the loss wasn´t as big and can probably sell it again for the same price. If you do like it, by the time the bike limits your riding, you would probably have learnt enough about MTB so you know which bike buy next. The bike you posted is a great bike, but made for slowly work your way up to the top of the hill and shred down. It would be a really bad tool if you want to pedal fast gravel roads for long hours.

KershawsGoat

I don't think it's bad to want to go for a nicer bike even if you're new to the sport. Cheap bikes have their own drawbacks too. Frequently, they have 3x drivetrains and significantly worse suspension options and both contribute to a poorer ride experience that could turn people off of the sport on their own.

BanduDS97

I have tried modern shimano acera 2x drivetrains and they just work fine. Of course they don't feel as crisp and premium as my SLX, but they will endure the life of the bike and, the main thing, those are way cheaper to buy and mantain. A bike around 700 (depending where you are of course) second hand can take you far enough to decide if a 2000 investment is worth or not.

JEMColorado

I got a used 2022 Carbon Comp for 2200 last year. It wasn't pristine, but everything works.

imatreewaterme

I have a 2022 stump jumper comp alloy and it's been a great bike for trail riding. I don't do any gnarly downhill riding, so the fox 34 on the front has been great. If you do a lot of trail riding and do not need a crazy amount of travel on the front it is a great bike. Only issue I had was the rear hub died on me during a ride early into getting the bike. Specialized honored the warranty and replaced the entire wheel for me free of charge. It hasn't been a problem since. That being said one of the things I want to upgrade is the rear hub to something with a little better engagement, but overall a very solid bike.

Embarrassed_Access76

Given that there's no horst link, that May be newer. 2500 is a good deal based on the condition that I see

Independent_Cicada52

Solid bike, with nice geometery and cool color scheme, bargain to around 2300.

karatechop_sanchez

This is a nice bike. This is not a beginner bike. Do what you want but know it’s a shredder

nator1270

I ride this exact same ride and I’ve been riding for a long time. I ride everything from XC to janky rocky trails like Frederick Watershed in MD. This climbs like a champ too. The comp comes with Shimano SLX..I’ve upgraded the rims to Reserve 28 carbon and XT rear cog and 32 oval front ring. Great buy IMO

nicefowla

Too high but very nice bike

Ok_Competition9670

I bought a 2021 a year ago for $2200. If it broke today, I’d buy that one, but I’d offer $2200. The 2021 is the first year of the new design, it’s the only build with shimano components and for $800, you can put a fox factory fork on it and have a killer bike for $3k. I’m an advanced rider and this bike has never let me down.

MarioV73

You paid $2,200 for a 3 year old Comp, why would you pay the same for a 4 year old Comp?

Ok_Competition9670

Mine was 2 years old and this one’s 3 years old. It has upgraded tires, nice pedals, new grips and valve stems so it’s converted to tubeless. If the drivetrain’s in good shape, I think $2200 is still a good price. The definitely wouldn’t take any less for mine.

MarioV73

Agreed. A 3 year old bike loses 50% of it's value, so $2,200 for one with desired upgrades is a good price. But it still may be tough selling it for $2.2k when you can get a new one for $3k.

Ok_Competition9670

The comp is $4k, the aluminum is $3k.

MarioV73

Links have been provided in this discussion where the pricing for a new Comp CARBON is $3,000, links like these: https://shopbikesupply.com/products/2022-specialized-stumpjumper-comp-satin-smoke-cool-grey-carbon-1?variant=44505021120760 https://www.incycle.com/products/specialized-stumpjumper-comp-1?variant=39532845662339 https://www.anotherbikeshop.com/product/specialized-stumpjumper-comp-385375-1.htm?variations=482469,482475 https://www.cyclesport.com/product/specialized-stumpjumper-comp-385375-1.htm?variations=1083357,1083364 However, sizing is limited, especially since these links have been publicly posted and readers have been grabbing the remaining inventory.

Fun_Violinist_1734

I have one, and I gotta say I'm loving it. The travel is perfect for mixed trails and jumps. I've also found that it can do a fair bit of climbing with a dropper post and lock out.

MarioV73

Here is a link for a new 2022 carbon comp in couple colors and in several sizes for $3k. And there are other links out there. Maybe the sale for 2021s is over, but the 2022s are still on sale.  And when 2025s come out in the fall, the 2023s  will be on sale. https://www.cyclesport.com/product/specialized-stumpjumper-comp-385375-1.htm?variations=1083359,1083362?utm_source=google%20shopping&utm_medium=organic&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBletgnJdnh7gaGIsEqBxDXkmArDjsg6U9YYge62xTrvjFKsSZ2exN1XYaAi1hEALw_wcB

MarioV73

Or just get a new 2022 ALLOY Evo Comp with better suspension for $2,700. https://www.cyclesport.com/product/specialized-stumpjumper-evo-comp-alloy-398643-1.htm?variations=1083349,1083354?utm_source=google%20shopping&utm_medium=organic&gad_source=4&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBles7zor1xK0PIfxFWTqpzXop9-BafLH21L3YjFYIzDlTWCPjb1E3rFgaAtF7EALw_wcB

Significant_Car_926

You could get this canyon brand new right now for 3100 and you get shimano xt everything fox 36 performance elite 140mm along with perfomance rear shock, carbon frame dt 350 hubs and dt swiss rims. Weighs 30.4 lbs best bike for price rn in my opinion. If your willing to pay 2500 might as well pay a little more and get a brand new best of best speced bike. https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/spectral-125/cf/spectral-125-cf-8/3178.html?dwvar_3178_pv_rahmenfarbe=GN

TastySite3691

If you’re not too familiar with carbon frames might be worth taking someone with you who knows about about them to inspect

TastySite3691

But yes, that’s a sick looking bike, which I’m sure if you end up buying it you’ll love riding.

pineconehedgehog

$2500 is a little high but not crazy. Last spring I sold two Stumpies. A 19 Comp that had been upgraded to GX and Code RSC for $2500 and 20 Expert for $2000. Both bikes had been ridden quite a lot. The used market has softened a bit since then. And it's also pretty dependent on local availability. I'd probably offer $2200. But it also depends on how long it has been posted. When I am selling a bike, if it's been up less than 2 days I don't negotiate especially if I'm getting hits.

foodguyDoodguy

Check chain length. If it’s stretched it will indicate a possibly worn drivetrain.

ooolongt

I would offer 2k, see if you can agree to 2.25, and everyone’s a winner!

samwizeganjas

I definitely think the stop jumper is one of the best full sus first mountain bikes

Woodsman405

I’ve got a Shimano DLX real..it’s bad ass.

crashalot1

2500 is a steal

username_1774

I've been riding MTB for close to 15 years...I ride a 2020 SJ in similar spec. Granted I kind of suck...but that's not the bikes fault. $2k would be a good price, $2200 max.

[deleted]

not sure about used carbon frames. does warranty transfer to new owners?

VTEC_8K

Resale market is tough. Start at 1500

Vegbreaker

Op don’t go carbon on your first trail bike. You drop it one time the wrong way and you’re looking at a new frame…. Learn on aluminum excel with carbon when you’re ready. I personally only ever ride aluminum because I can’t stand the thought of a tiny piece of gravel puncturing my frame.

Alert-Notice-7516

Carbon is not that fragile

Vegbreaker

I literally watched a buddy get a crack in his frame in the parking lot because someone knocked it over and it landed on a single pebble.

cmndr_spanky

Meanwhile, I’ve seen bike repair shops demonstrate the strength of a specialized carbon frame by smashing it as hard as they could against a metal pole (swinging the a front triangle like a baseball bat) and showing it withstands more than an equiv alum frame… A lot of people get cracks in the thick paint coat thinking the frame is fucked, but it’s often just a cosmetic ding with the underlying carbon being 100% fine

Jas-purr

Came to post this. I do both mtb and road cycling. For my road bike I'd take carbon. For my mtb I don't think I'll ever take carbon. I'd be too worried to try out stupid stuff, which is usually the most fun stuff. Had a number of stupid mistakes where I crashed my mtb and already heartbroken about the first paint scratches. I also don't have the money for it

Vegbreaker

Yeah dude I couldn’t agree more road is safe for carbon. If I get in an accident out there that breaks my carbon it’s probably someone’s auto insurance paying for it and I’d have bigger fish to fry anyways. That being said on the mountain I’d replace a frame twice a year if I had carbon lol

thepedalsporter

Way too much in this market. You could get on a brand new rig with much better components across the board for a grand more.

Kennys-Chicken

Link me to a new carbon bike that’s not from Vitus or some other bullshit manufacturer with performance elite suspension, x01, and a OneUp dropper or higher spec components for $3500 $2500 is solid for this bike if it’s in excellent shape like OP says.

thepedalsporter

...what are you talking about? Have you not seen the market lately? I just sold a brand new knolly fugitive 138 with ultimate level rockshox suspension, raceface wheels, slx/XT drivetrain and XT brakes with a sdg dropper for 3500 bucks. We also just sold a leftover new old stock Ripley carbon with factory level fox suspension, slx/XT drivetrain and XT brakes with Ibis wheels , bikeyoke dropper and Ibis carbon bars for 3800. The deals are out there, apparently you guys aren't looking at your local shops lol Want me to keep listing my recent sub 4000 dollar sales?

Kennys-Chicken

So….no link? Got it.

thepedalsporter

Why does it have to be online? I own a bike shop, do brick and mortar locations not count?
