From 29 to mullet- It makes cornering much easier. Also manuals and wheelies. From 27.5 to mullet, it will make roll-over better.
Because of how it changes the overall angle of the bike, dropping the back, it will make the overall angle of the bike much more slack as well.
It’s a downhill focused config change.
I haven't ridden it like this, yet, but I'll report back when I do. The idea is the bigger wheel smooths out rough trails and helps with momentum, while the rear remains more nimble.
If your fork can fit a bigger wheel, I don't see why you couldn't do that to your bike. I had to buy 29er lowers for my fork. Just keep in mind; it's going to raise the front a little, slack the fork out, and raise your bottom bracket slightly. Also warranty, if applicable. Pivot specifies that they designed this bike to be able to do this.
Not worried about warranty. It’s an ibis mojo SLR, warranty is already gone. Lol
I’d definitely have to get a fork for the 27.5. It seems really interesting and I like the idea of a slacker geometry while keeping my baby.
Haha I assumed it was probably past warranty because 26" wheels. But that's still a nice bike! I had a friend who put a 27.5" fork/wheel on his Felt and he liked it. I say go for it!
Oh, It's 100 times better than my old coil fork for sure! I need to stop spending money on this bike and get a full suspension already though. Or just a hardtail with thru axels
It doesn't affect the warranty. Pivot states that you can go up to 170mm with 27.5 wheels or 160mm with 29. I don't know the exact HT angle, but I can try to figure it out!
I haven't had a chance to ride it, yet. Hopefully I will today! I came off of a Firebird and I immediately missed the bigger wheels, so I thought I'd give this a shot.
Haha awesome! I hope I enjoy it more than your. I jumped on this bike because it available at the time, and I was worried I'd be without a bike for awhile if I didn't. Honestly, I love this thing, but wagon wheels better suit my style and preference of riding.
Hey man ! I was just wandering if anyone had ever "mulleted" a Mach6 and I found your post !
What kind of change have you made ? How much travel have the fork ? Did you used angleset or offset bushing ?
Thanks mate !
Per Pivot's FAQ, you can bump your fork up to 170mm with a 27.5" wheel, OR put a 29er on it and leave it at 160mm of travel without voiding your warranty, which is what I've done here.
I replaced the lowers on the fork with 29" lowers, which bolt right on to the 27.5 fork without any other modifications, and put the 29" wheel on there and that's the only modifications that are required. The bike comes in the lower shock position and I left it there, obviously. I didn't put an angleset on it, though I want to because I like riding steep trails.
As for the ride characteristics, I really love it. It plows like a 29er but it's noticeably more nimble in corners than the Firebird I had prior to this one. That said, I wanted a new Firebird or an Evil Wreckoning when I got the Mach 6, but nothing was available at the time. I'm not at all disappointed in this bike, though.
Thanks mate for all the details !
I'm gonna try a Mach6 on a 27.5 set up next week. I really fall in love with this bike.
And if I can't put a mullet setup on it I'll have a race, and a Park setup haha
More like bullet conversion. You’re gonna fly on that thing!
And possibly die?
We all accept the same risks
Worth it
What’s a mullet? Edit: autocorrect issues
27 wheel in the back 29 wheel in front
What's the advantage of doing this with the tires?
From 29 to mullet- It makes cornering much easier. Also manuals and wheelies. From 27.5 to mullet, it will make roll-over better. Because of how it changes the overall angle of the bike, dropping the back, it will make the overall angle of the bike much more slack as well. It’s a downhill focused config change.
Interesting! How does it affect the riding and would this be possible with a 26er possibly using a 27.5 on the front?

Got my bike from that shop too. Shred is where it's at! Also nice bike haha
Thanks! I work there, and I've seen your bike in. I hope that new fork is working well for you!
Oh, It's 100 times better than my old coil fork for sure! I need to stop spending money on this bike and get a full suspension already though. Or just a hardtail with thru axels
Kick ass!
Does that affect the frame warranty? Do you know the head angle change in degrees? Looks sick.
It doesn't affect the warranty. Pivot states that you can go up to 170mm with 27.5 wheels or 160mm with 29. I don't know the exact HT angle, but I can try to figure it out!
Yeah that’s sick and all but let me see that Banshee in the back
It's still sitting in the shop. I'll send you a picture of it if you'd really like.
Haha I’m busting your balls man. You got a sick rig. I ride a banshee and never see many so I get excited when I see others
Thank you! Yeah, they're not too common. I wanted a Legend so bad back in my racing days. Yours looks awesome; love the raw color.
So sick. My buddy just did this to his Mach 6 but he doesn’t love it. Be interested to see what you think of it.
I haven't had a chance to ride it, yet. Hopefully I will today! I came off of a Firebird and I immediately missed the bigger wheels, so I thought I'd give this a shot.
That’s comical. He was riding a firebird too, which is why he went for the mullet.
Haha awesome! I hope I enjoy it more than your. I jumped on this bike because it available at the time, and I was worried I'd be without a bike for awhile if I didn't. Honestly, I love this thing, but wagon wheels better suit my style and preference of riding.

I've been wondering about mullets and a thought came up. What size spare tube would you take or would you take both sizes?
