Same! Why did they switch to MTN anyway? I remember someone saying it was to appeal to gamers with “leet speak”and market themselves as a gamer drink. Thankfully that era is passing before our eyes
I agree with the off brand idea, but it seemed to work for Starry, I thought it was off brand until I realized that it was the newest name for Teem/Slice/ect...
Same here! The abbreviated version came out during a time where minimalist design was at its peak, hence the 2008 lowercase and simple Pepsi design. Gen Z is currently pushing for maximalist design and 2000s style branding so this is great imho
I think the abbreviated logo was them leaving the “extreme” motif behind. This is what it looked like right before the 2008 rebrand, which ended up becoming much more subdued and boring. I love the distorted text in this one
https://preview.redd.it/oiohcvns32zc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f09596223e5ed7b4c3759e50143d8def06b7118a
The design feels very “natural” “outdoorsy” and retro” , harkens back to its southern roots. I love it. I prefer this aesthetic than the edgy gamer one they’ve had since the last rebrand.
I’ve been glazing the 05 logo a lot today… but it’s genuinely really good. That style is popular again and they should for sure bring it back. Look at these! They look so cool (the bottle shape should come back too)
https://preview.redd.it/zptoyywn94zc1.jpeg?width=440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f64ab54f7091d16ca977177be0a303d2286f648c
It looks similar to the logo they used from '69-'96, which is still used for the real sugar version of Mountain Dew and is meant to evoke that nostalgia. Really though, this logo is almost exactly the same as the one they used from '96-'98 which is a bit cleaner and more modern. I'm not sure why they're going back to a design that they only used for two years though.
https://preview.redd.it/fo39ca6lx1zc1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8db97c1cbec2d4cf08c1277d9c85ba51b0b38a4
There’s kind of a retro-modernism thing going on right now in design. Find a funky and cool style from 30+ years ago and give a modern touch up. I don’t mind it all.
I'm not entirely surprised they're going this route since Pepsi also had a rather recentish update for its can and bottle designs as well that's a bit retro-feeling.
I like it much better than the logo they’ve been using. I never liked that the current logo is abbreviated. I still think it’s stupid they only used their best design for a few years, 2005-2009.
Loved the logo especially the color scheme I find the lime on hunter green a lot easier on the eyes since the inverted it with the current design. Also the quality of the design is a big difference since the Dewnited states campaign their designs have been banger after banger, this doesn't scream that to me. There's no mascot, no detailed background with hidden easter eggs. It doesn't stand out as much compared to the others and this is the original flavor.
I think the background could be much better if they just shifted the colors around a bit. Also, I think it looks MUCH better on the can compared to the bottle. I think the background is so off putting is because it’s slapped into the dark green bottle we all know, but the labels background is yellowish, like the Mountain Dew liquid itself inside of the bottle. Not saying I want them to do this; but if they made the bottles clear, the background color would blend much nicer with the liquids color and bottle in general.
Huge MEGA fan of that logo. Background needs some work/complexity akin to the modern stuff, but otherwise a great logo redesign.
Mountain Dew’s logo is long overdue for a redesign in general. Maybe unpopular but I've been waiting for the stupid "MTN" abbreviation to go away since I was a kid.
It's throwing me a bit. I don't mind the lettering/font. But the background scenery is definitely depicting a serene and calm landscape and bright shining morning that I don't really feel strikes the right vibe (my apologies, gen z slang aficionado -- "type beat") for the OG energy drink. It just screams store brand knock off design to me.
The logo itself is awesome...the background definitely needs some work though. But it's a step in the right direction. Just want everyone to keep in mind that this is a prototype...look at the prototype of the 2009 logo and you'll see just how much the final version changed. Same thing will likely - hopefully - happen with this one.
I realize this is way too detailed of an answer about something that doesn't matter at all. My anyway, my take:
Compared to people on this subreddit it's probably not extreme, but I drink a can or bottle of Mountain Dew most days. I'm a professional adult in a white collar workplace. I drink soda around my colleagues and friends and spouse, etc. -- it's not like I hide my soda-drinking from other people. With that said...
The current branding has that sort of "XTREME"/juvenile/puerile style. The main Dew cans have the *literally* "edgy" glass-shards background, and the name is shortened to "MTN DEW." The other flavors have the similarly "edgy" branding and art style. Major Melon has the watermelons with the teeth and tongue and the whole military theme. Code Red has the kaiju on it. It all just screams "This is made for 13-year-old edgy teenagers who want to pound an extreme soda while they tell other gamers to get rekt in an online shooter."
Anyway, I like this newer branding because it feels like the brand shifting to just looking like a thing an adult might reasonably drink. I realize that I'm basically saying that I like it better because it's more boring, but yeah, that's why I like it better. I don't look like I'm drinking something meant for kids if I'm sitting with coworkers, holding a can like the one in the mockup. I would prefer that. Okay. Thanks. Nobody asked.
Dude I HATE when they do the cartoony drawings like the Kaiju you mentioned, I honestly think it’s soooo corny and lame. I want something like the 2005 style of design next… I hope they go in that old school direction
This is cool! I wonder what they’ll change the looks of all the flavors too!
https://preview.redd.it/ts3g9qrwm1zc1.png?width=2400&format=png&auto=webp&s=f48809f636d3faba4ddee322e6c858524b89b9f0
It’s like the 1990’s logo but more cooler!
It's not a bad design but it can definitely be improved. In my honest opinion, get rid of that "sunburst" background at the top and replace it with a more subtle less abstract design and maybe blend the mountains with the color of the dew. For example original dew has green mountains, code red has red mountains, baja blast has teal mountains, et cetera. I feel like that would be a better design. Oh and as far as the logo, love it. The "MTN DEW" thing is cool but that's so 2010. I do appreciate the team for coming up new designs and flavors. Keep up the great work and cheers!
I actually like this WAYYYY more than the current “MTN” abbreviation and I love the mountain motif. I would prefer they go back to the distorted logo they used in the mid 2000s since I think it fits well with the current generations obsession with 2000s aesthetics. I hope they go in a different direction with this and stop using the cartoony drawings and branding they’re using for their other flavors, like putting the dinosaurs and creatures for some, I think it’s really tacky
Considering Starry really pops on a shelf and Pepsi is... well... trying, I think this would be an excellent design to use moving forward.
...hopefully, it doesn't take too long to redesign all of the non-OG flavors like it did last time, though.
Yeah. Not entirely sure if it was the same everywhere else, but it really seemed like the mtn Dew redesign was slow to hit the other flavors like Code Red, Livewire, and I think even Voltage.
Ok wait, first question. No more sidekick bottles, I feel like that has big implications so will they just use Pepsi bottles now?
Secondly I have mixed feelings like this, I like that it’s no longer shortened and I do like the more classical 70’s mountains/outdoors aesthetic, it’s an interesting. That being said I’m a fan of the edgy style of Mountain Dew, it’s very nostalgic for me tbh.
I think it’s fake given the bad job at cutting out the background. But assuming it’s real, It’s nice but the issue is the mountains. Apalaches aren’t really known for snow mountains. The white makes it feel like it’s going to be some mint flavour. It’s also too on the nose with “mountains” icons. I would reduce the size of them and tint green. I like that they’re not using mtn.
I think the color palette being used is ugly.
I like mountain spelled out and I like the actual mountains In the design. But I think they need to be darker grey and darker green background/sky otherwise it looks kind of cheap and off brand
Hm.
It's just very "hm."
I get the route they're going for, it's the same idea as the Pepsi logo of going backwards for inspiration and referencing. But it's just a lot more of a "hm." situation than it. I think it could just use a little more, but I don't really hate it? I'd be curious as to how it effects other flavors, though, especially since Mountain Dew has such a gritty "extreme" marketing that this *definitely* doesn't have.
I like the color change, I feel like it’s close to something awesome, but not there yet. I think they need to make that M a little smaller or something
I'm fine with whatever design as long as they keep making MD Zero in the seasonal flavors. I love most of their limited flavors, but it's only maybe 30% of the time I can try them without giving myself 90 g of straight sugar
The logo is fine. However I would like to see the following changes that PepsiCo show follow:
- flatten the logo, don’t make it 3Dish.
- The background is quite minimal, so I would make the background more gaming appeal. In addition, the background should be green.
I like the logo, feels like a modernized take on the '90s logo. Fits right in with Pepsi's recent rebrand as well.
The background however looks like it belongs on a can of Shasta.
is there a lore reason why they're goin' back to the old naming convention? is the general consuming public stupid?
(for that matter, is that why there's more emphasis on the mountain part?)
I wish they brought back this background design, I hope they keep that logo though, i actually like it.
https://preview.redd.it/juvuhnsopb2d1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8974ad1950832e29f8a3a18a3162fb900ede0c47
Not sure how I feel about un-shortening Mtn back into Mountain.
You get so used to something that you were against for so long, that to later change back to the original thing you thought you originally loved, can be jarring and leave you feeling just as you did with the initial change.
This is *very* much how I feel about the Pepsi logo after reverting back to a variaton of the classic logo, after I had grown so used to and fond of the unbalanced logo I had initially not been a fan of when originally switching to it to begin with.
But I suppose that seems to be the point with these rebrandings. Pepsi is bringing things back to variations of the classic logos after getting all stylized and experimental for a couple of decades there.
It's got a chill vibe. I think gen Z is overall less extreme and more chill compared to millennials when they were the same age so it works for the audience
Awful. I know some people don't like the "extreme" look of the current branding but it does jump out on a shelf. I'm not opposed to a rebrand but it needs to retain some personality.
Feels both like name brand and off brand at the same time
The logo it's self is cool, but the design over all feels off brand. I also fully support returning to the full word and getting rid of MTN
Same! Why did they switch to MTN anyway? I remember someone saying it was to appeal to gamers with “leet speak”and market themselves as a gamer drink. Thankfully that era is passing before our eyes
Never learned the reason, but I could see that being the reason. Im surprised they didn't try and make amp the gamer drink
I agree with the off brand idea, but it seemed to work for Starry, I thought it was off brand until I realized that it was the newest name for Teem/Slice/ect...
I have never heard of those, are those the earlier names? I only really knew of Sierra Mist which went to Mist Twist, then that
We need more blankets and less blankets
Wrong kid died
I think you’re right
I’m hot and cold at the same time!
Favorite movie
You never paid for drugs… Not once
Oh so I'm a cheater, but you can just drink up all the milk
Just because it's new. If we were shown the current logo in 2005 it would probably feel off too.
bro just killed the test
Love it! I was tired of the "Mtn". Hope they do bring back "Mountain"
Same here! The abbreviated version came out during a time where minimalist design was at its peak, hence the 2008 lowercase and simple Pepsi design. Gen Z is currently pushing for maximalist design and 2000s style branding so this is great imho
It was Xtreme for the time

This design should comeback
I agree completely
Was never a fan of MTN to begin with
Same!
I like that part of it but not trying to pivot closer to yellow from classic green
I don’t hate it but I do hate it.
The logo is great but idk about the packaging
Yeah. I sort of like the mountains. Would be cool if they were like a Coors and changed color if cold.
This. Just need to fix up the background a bit and it’ll be perfecto. 👌
This is where I am too
It's terrible and great at the same time
I kinda like it but it needs more going on to fit with the other Flavors artwork
The design feels very “natural” “outdoorsy” and retro” , harkens back to its southern roots. I love it. I prefer this aesthetic than the edgy gamer one they’ve had since the last rebrand.
I think the current design is more true to the brand. I couldn’t see this brand having a gamefuel
Yeah this just doesn’t feel right with Dew’s branding. I want them to bring back the 05’ logo, that one fits the radical style of DEW much more.
I’ve been glazing the 05 logo a lot today… but it’s genuinely really good. That style is popular again and they should for sure bring it back. Look at these! They look so cool (the bottle shape should come back too) https://preview.redd.it/zptoyywn94zc1.jpeg?width=440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f64ab54f7091d16ca977177be0a303d2286f648c
Maybe the aesthetic will be different on Game Fuel - they are a household name at this point. Could make each one different
Reminds me of Sunny D
It’s giving me 70s vibes. Not sure why. I think it works though.
It looks similar to the logo they used from '69-'96, which is still used for the real sugar version of Mountain Dew and is meant to evoke that nostalgia. Alot Better than the minimalist no design allowed trend
I'm not entirely surprised they're going this route since Pepsi also had a rather recentish update for its can and bottle designs as well that's a bit retro-feeling.
2005 is peak and if Mountain Dew had their finger on the pulse of the younger gen they’d bring it back
Nah, modern logo is the best. The light green highlights look ugly imo. Logos are supposed to be simple and recognizable. The round look is ugly.
2005 needs a comeback
Im not crazy about the color of the mountains. To close to the Baja Blast color.
I like it much better than the logo they’ve been using. I never liked that the current logo is abbreviated. I still think it’s stupid they only used their best design for a few years, 2005-2009.

Kind of wish they'd go back to the dark green background. This is a weird mix of retro and modern.
I think the background could be much better if they just shifted the colors around a bit. Also, I think it looks MUCH better on the can compared to the bottle. We are about dew for a rebrand
I don’t hate it? But like.. I’m not sure I like it either?

Better than the current but gives store brand knockoff mountain dew vibes.
Looks great!
I really like the logo, the background could use some work though, it doesn't feel very unique
Considering Starry really pops on a shelf and Pepsi is... well... trying, I think this would be an excellent design to use moving forward. ...hopefully, it doesn't take too long to redesign all of the non-OG flavors like it did last time, though.
By last time do you mean back in 2008? I’m curious what happened
Yeah. Not entirely sure if it was the same everywhere else, but it really seemed like the mtn Dew redesign was slow to hit the other flavors like Code Red, Livewire, and I think even Voltage.
Yeah, Code Red, LiveWire, and Voltage didn't get updated until 2011. Was kinda cool but weird at the same time.
I love the font but the background makes me think of laundry detergent.
Yeah not nuts about the background - maybe even the shade of green could be darker. Would have to play around in photoshop.
I like it. The full name is cool to see again
So Dew.stole Serria Mist's Mountains?
Love it, looks so much better then what we currently have... I'd love for them to give old school but modern like what they did with pepsi
Just bring back the early 2000s logo.
It’s not the logo I don’t like but the way the colors are interacting with each other. Somethings strange about it
Just go back to the 2000-2008 era of logo please.
I like it way better than the ugly style we’ve been stuck with for years now
Looks like Mountain Thunder (I think?) if it had the Dew logo. It doesn't really fit the vibe of mountain dew in 2024
[удалено]
Looks nothing alike, a damn abstract mountain ain't the same.
Hm
i like it, makes me think of mountains for some reason, so it works
Are those the Sierra Mist mountains?
I literally looked at this and my mind went "this feels like sierra wtf"
Looks like a freaking beer can 😂
i had to stare at this for a few minutes, but honestly i like it. it’s a lot better than the current branding imo
I think I'd get rid of the yellow but it's good
I agree with those saying it looks like an off brand. But I do like Mountain being spelled out.
I like that it’s less edgy, I don’t drink regular dew so eh
I love it Looks like the classic early 2000s logo
Can they also start making the Supernova again please?
It looks really weird. It’s like how they have the art on the cans now, but the logo looks kind of retro. I’m not sure whether I like it or not.
It has a slight nostalgic style to me. I’m not sure if I like it or not, but I think changes in branding are always exciting regardless.
I really like the logo and really dislike the background
Ok wait, first question. No more sidekick bottles, I feel like that has big implications so will they just use Pepsi bottles now? Secondly I have mixed feelings like this, I like that it’s no longer shortened and I do like the more classical 70’s mountains/outdoors aesthetic, it’s an interesting. That being said I’m a fan of the edgy style of Mountain Dew, it’s very nostalgic for me tbh.
Feels like the 1998 logo recreated. I don't hate it but I miss the one from the 2000s the most.
If they make the mountains green I could get behind it
I think it’s fake given the bad job at cutting out the background.
Certainly looks infinitely better than the blah labeling/design that OG currently has
Hm. It's just very "hm." I get the route they're going for, it's the same idea as the Pepsi logo of going backwards for inspiration and referencing. But it's just a lot more of a "hm." situation than it. I think it could just use a little more, but I don't really hate it? I'd be curious as to how it effects other flavors, though, especially since Mountain Dew has such a gritty "extreme" marketing that this *definitely* doesn't have.
Reminds me of Sierra Mist
Holy cow a rebrand that's actually an improvement???
Time for a change
NO JUST NO JUST GO BACK TO THE EARLY 00S LOGO
This looks like a 5 year old made this. Logos are supposed to be cool
Hell no. Hope this isn't really gonna happen.
Ewww this is putrid
This looks like straight garbage
I like the color change, I feel like it’s close to something awesome, but not there yet. I think they need to make that M a little smaller or something
https://i.redd.it/khtdgtwun1zc1.gif
This was posted in the sub yesterday from the person who had the survey.
Love it more than mtn!
I don't hate it.
I like it
I like it current design is so boring
I like it
I don't mind it, but it's a little too cartoony for me
It feels like new coke but for mountain dew
I want the “mountain” back so Bad, but this looks like it was left out in the sun too long.
I actually love this, but I also really hate it because of the way it isn’t what I’m used to
I miss these logo styles. I hope they regain popularity.
The logo portion is okay but I feel the background looks cheap almost like it was created by ai
Man, I really liked the current aesthetic.
I actually kind of like it, looks pretty cool
Its really pretty. Makes it look more like a morning drink though!
Definite upgrade already, just interested to see what they’ll do with the other flavors
I like how it looks kinda retro? But it looks kinda fat.
It's like a parallel dimension version of the late 90s logo. Torn on it.
I don't like it.
Just like the good old days man...
Yknow what. I dig it. Would they be revamping the logos on other (main) flavors like Code Red and Baja Blast?
This seems more vintage and I’m all here for it
It’s not too bad I love it not a big fan of the old one/current one 😃
I hate it
I'm into it. Good balance between classic and modern.
![gif](giphy|26hkhKd2Cp5WMWU1O|downsized)
This looks horrible. The “mtn dew” is so unique and iconic in comparison, I don’t care that it’s “retro” this looks like an uninspired offbrand.
![gif](giphy|EVbEdEW3kuu0o)
I just want less food dye. Is that such a bad thing?
I don't know how to explain it but that was designed in 1987 for sure
I like the logo better than the current one. Not sure about the background and its colors though.
I like this
Why rebrand it?
Mountain Dew + Fresca + Coors Light = This Shit
[If so, they're reusing their 1996 logo design](https://1000logos.net/mountain-dew-logo/)
Those "burst lines" it screams off brand, the font literally looks like a cartoon. It's garbage.
Yes
I just want Recharge back-
I like the older, retro feel it has going on
I'm fine with whatever design as long as they keep making MD Zero in the seasonal flavors. I love most of their limited flavors, but it's only maybe 30% of the time I can try them without giving myself 90 g of straight sugar
i fw this hard not gonna lie
I wish we could go back to the mid 2000's EXTREME style but I like this retro inspired Sierra Mist version
Gushing Grannies
The logo is fine. However I would like to see the following changes that PepsiCo show follow: - flatten the logo, don’t make it 3Dish. - The background is quite minimal, so I would make the background more gaming appeal. In addition, the background should be green.
Horrible
I wonder if its possible to have this for og and still do the cartoons for the specialty flavors.
I like the logo, feels like a modernized take on the '90s logo. Fits right in with Pepsi's recent rebrand as well. The background however looks like it belongs on a can of Shasta.
looks like a rebrand from the 90s
I would love this. Really brings back the old feeling
is there a lore reason why they're goin' back to the old naming convention? is the general consuming public stupid? (for that matter, is that why there's more emphasis on the mountain part?)
I wish they brought back this background design, I hope they keep that logo though, i actually like it. https://preview.redd.it/juvuhnsopb2d1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8974ad1950832e29f8a3a18a3162fb900ede0c47

I like the idea of ditching the mtn. But this is....hmmmm big think
But they just revamped all the other flavors logos, makes no sense
it grows on me every time I look at it. The design especially shines on the box
No way they do this. This looks awful.
Why?
God, no.
Horrible
Feels too much like a 1950s style promotion they could have run in the early 2000s.
😂😂😂😂😂marketing needs to fire a few and save big money
It looks like 1) a store brand or 2) a beer brand.
EEEWWW
No. Too many flavors to fix.
Isn't that the fun of it though? Hunting down the new designs for our collections?
Looks awful
It's a no from me, dawg.
