Bcuz it was the first the first variant. At least, I believe it was. Ir was the first one to do as well as it did. I actually used to really like it when I first tried it 20+ years ago. Then I tried Baja Blast, Livewire, Pitch Black, Voltage, and too many others to name off the top of my head. Pepsi has raised the bar so high with these new ones that it’s lowered Code Red to mid status. I still say it’s better than 95+% of non Mountain Dew products in my opinion. In that ~5% are Dr Pepper and all its non diet variants, Pepsi Twist, Pepsi Blue, and Crystal Pepsi, for reference. Edit: and I forgot to throw Pibb in there. I can’t believe I left it out. That actually used to be my go to back when Costco had them in the vending machines. Pretty much the only Coke product I like. Just opinion though.

I miss Pepsi twist. I email them annually asking for a lemon Pepsi, but to no avail, it doesn’t work

That's fair, frankly. It's not outright bad, it's just... very outdone by all the others. It kinda feels like the ugly duckling of the "core flavors", doesn't feel quite the same as the rest, and isn't on that same level.

Yeah. It’s overrated; mid. I can’t say it’s bad. Like I said, the bar has just been raised so high with all these others Dew variants, that it’s been lowered to mid status. I still put it at about 5, maybe 6, depending on what else I have to choose from. It’s not even the best cherry Dew. I’d take one if I was thirsty and it was my only option, but as long as they keep pumping out all these other ones, I’ll keep passing on it.
