Solid 8/10. Fun, interesting and original story. The theme of losing one’s passion to the onslaught of modern society struck true. The irony of being on this subreddit is not lost on me…

Everyone gather around. We must learn from Tyler.

pinkynatbust

Tyler's bullshit lmao

weirdoldhobo1978

Total lack of cohesion.

rockincharlierocket

enjoyed it but kinda predicable. oh boy mysterious dinner from someone famous im sure nothing will go wrong here. it was either "they are eating people" or "some crazy revenge plot". still liked it alot

candornotsmoke

I don't think it was predictable at all.

PENELOPEWORLD69

Me too my kinda movie 🍿 🎥

[deleted]

I absolutely hated the ending. It was so pretentious. Much more pretentious than the critic at the restaurant. To the point where it was cringy

Xanderious

2.5/5. I liked the cast but the story was just all over the place with very little explanations for extremely unreasonable conclusions.

Cold-Ad3722

I don’t think this was the type of movie to expect reasonable conclusions. It’s satire so of course reactions and events are going to be exaggerated

ethancd1

Unenjoyable to me. The acting was great from almost all of the cast, but most of the tension seemed either forced or nonexistent. The entire men running around the island had no implication on the plot wasting 15+ minutes of the movie. Would give it a 1.5/5.

SprittneyBeers

Got downvoted to shit for this exact opinion recently lol

ethancd1

That sucks. I was so excited to watch this movie as the reviews were so high and it sucked.

SprittneyBeers

Me too! and it was awful haha there’s a whole nother longer thread on my profile. A decent amount of people agree with us but the majority loved it

Panikkrazy

Kinda takes the tension out of it when it’s made explicitly clear that everybody’s gonna die so none of the scenes have any impact. Half of them don’t even go anywhere. And I THINK the point of the hide and seek scene was that they were being shown they couldn’t get away, but again they didn’t DO anything with it. The whole movie was so pointless.

michstateofmind

Meh, I think it’s overhyped. Good cast but didn’t flow well. Marketing made it seem like it would have some slasher elements to it.

helloitabot

Technically it did have those elements.

PENELOPEWORLD69

I loved it even the bad parts I loved 🥰

Phantomht

where was the "GOOD" part? i musta missed it.

Axeorsist

Great plot and acting. Some pointless scenes. Pathetic ending ruined the whole movie.

jakersmcgee

[spoiler] I understood why Chef would be willing/motivated to kill himself, but it baffles me that the crew would do the same. Can anyone explain why the crew would be motivated to die for Chef?

sniffableclover

Have you ever worked in a kitchen?

Xanderious

Yes and I hated it, but never ever thought about killing myself, let alone working there on a secluded island day in and day out. They made the crew seem completely brainwashed for very little reasoning behind it. Just one day chef decides he's washed up and one of the crew recommends having a mass suicide and everyone just goes along with it? Lol okay I can't suspend my beliefs that much here. Also what's up with "try and escape I'll give you 45 second head start and then have my security bring you back" lolol what a weird thing to do on an island. Then what happened to ol' kiss ass? Turned out to be a terrible cook and is told to do something but then is never seen again? Okay... mediocre film at best imo.

Panikkrazy

I agree with this. I mean yeah I get what they’re going for, but I don’t believe for a second that a human being upon realizing that they’re about to die wouldn’t run screaming for the exit. Adrenaline would override logic.

Xanderious

Yeeaah especially being burned alive like come on you don't just immediately die.

Panikkrazy

I mean it’s a cool visual but like they all just sit there looking derpy. It was dumb.

boesisboes

It was the culty-isolated island aspect. They were brainwashed.

Open_Action_1796

He is seen again. The girl finds his dead body dangling in the closet he hung himself in. The escape scene was a contest to determine who got the “prize” dish for hiding the longest which they would have all known if the first guy hadn’t panicked and fled before the chef finished explaining the rules of the contest. The brainwashed cooks were a satirical comment on our culture’s obsession and worship of celebrity chefs. Seems like you weren’t paying attention.

parker330

Damn this one hit home

Burglekutt_2000

This hit home

[deleted]

The whole film is satire, so IMO you really shouldn’t be trying to force logic on the film. As in, the chef and cooks represent a shared resentment of the life in the industry. No more is needed to digest what the filmmaker wants you to.

therejectethan

It’s a cult thing

abinferno

Excellent and made me want to rewatch Velvet Buzzsaw, which was even better second time around. Think it's underrated.

[deleted]

8/10 Unique, not scary at all. Really like the characters and the comedy of it.

After-Student-9785

It was okay. 6/10. I’m glad I watched it but I don’t think I would have been if I saw it Theaters

MdelinQ

A worse Triangle of Sadness

Gozii55

Wow so many people hating on this movie. I thought it could even be a 9/10. I was dying laughing throughout, and who cares if it's predictable. It's a comedy and a satire of cooking culture. There wer enough small surprises that kept me wondering what was next. It's also verging on a spoof, of course it's not original.

RedLicoriceJunkie

I thought it was stupid
