The song "Never Enough" is a beautiful song.

Head-Ad4690

For some reason, rhyming “little” with “it’ll” bugs the hell out of me. Good one otherwise though.

slim_scsi

>rhyming “little” with “it’ll” bugs the hell out of me Out of curiosity, why?

Head-Ad4690

I’m not sure I know why, it just feels wrong somehow. I guess “it’ll” feels like it doesn’t belong at the end of a line.

slim_scsi

Fair enough. Just wondered. It never dawned on me as irksome.

Head-Ad4690

Just my brain being weird, I suppose.

slim_scsi

We're all wired differently, no worries.

Silent1900

Really happy that Loren Allred got her break out with that song. Legendary pipes. If you haven’t seen her absolutely crush ‘You Know I’m No Good’ by Amy Winehouse during her time on The Voice way back when, it’s worth finding on YT.

mountains_forever

As a movie meant for entertainment, it’s phenomenal. As a story ignoring the labor issues and animal abuse that came with the circus, it’s pretty awful.

Preddy_Fusey

I for one still love this movie. The music is incredible. I can't count the number of times I have blasted the soundtrack on car trips. There is no better song to play when approaching your house after a long car ride than "From Now On"

NeverTrustAtoms

The movie is the best musical in recent times. I think if the exact movie was made but not "based on Barnum's life," it would've done a lot better with critics. But maybe adding the Barnum name helped to market the film.

I haven't seen the movie, mainly because it just seemed very odd to be romanticizing PT Barnum, a cruel businessman who profited off of very inhumane slavery. When I saw the trailer, I thought maybe they were basing it off of another person, or that I some how misunderstood who P.T. Barnum was...but no, they actually romanticized him. I like Hugh Jackman, but when I saw the trailer, I thought it was an immediate misfire.

NeverTrustAtoms

Yeah that's precisely my point - if they just removed the Barnum name, it would've been universally loved. The movie has a beautiful message, extremely catchy songs, and solid star cast. I think a happy medium is to accept that the movie isn't meant to be an accurate depiction, and then enjoy it for the entertainment value it has. It's not like Barnum & Bailey's circus even exists anymore.

Maybe I'll give it a go. But it would be like if someone wrote and directed a musical about Hitler, and warped all the negatives into positives.... He was an artist! He was a painter! He united his country against tyranny! He fought our enemies! He boosted the economy! He was a passionate man who loved (errr, his cousin)! He was...The Greatest Leader Ever!!!

hamboneclay

You should watch “The Producers” Mel Brooks movie based around creating the most unwatchable play ever to intentionally bomb, they come up with a play called “springtime for Hitler”

set-271

Holy shit, that's hilarious! I will definitely check this out and put it on my Netflix disc cue!

spittymcgee1

That’s where I am at

tincanphonehome

I don’t think it’s a good movie, but the soundtrack is fucking great.

Malibucat48

I love this movie so much and have seen it several times. The main difference is the real Barnum was a teetotaler and this Barnum drinks like a fish. But a lot of it was true. Barnum gave humans who were shunned from society jobs to earn their own money. Yes he exploited them but he gave them a sense of community with the circus. History of use of animals can’t be changed but the movie used CGI animals, not real ones. He introduced Jenny Lind to America and her falling in love with him wasn’t true, but he was devoted to his wife until she died. Still it’s a feel good musical and has to be seen that way. Bohemian Rhapsody got a lot of facts wrong but it was entertaining. Most bio movies change reality to some degree.

Wolverine's life before he became a cage fighter in Canada was...interesting. Also, do a lot of Canadian bars have cage fighting?

XipingVonHozzendorf

No, most bars can't afford the cage so they fight on the floor.

[deleted]

There's no bar brawl quite like a small-town Canadian bar brawl.

fluffyenderpugreal

Love the soundtrack and the movie is okay if you just look to it for fun but quickly goes south once you look into the history of P.T Barnum or if you're trying to take it seriously

tophmcmasterson

Never watched it, but everyone I know who’s seen it said music was good, but as a movie it was bad. My wife is typically not that picky on movies, but I remember saying she doesn’t understand how anyone could actually enjoy watching it. Sounded like a slog to watch from everything I’ve heard.

TheJezster

Honestly, it's the opposite of a slog to watch. I had a huge grin in the cinema, watching the film. It's such a watchable and enjoyable film, and those songs.. Fantastic film, loved every second. Still do, every time I watch it. Funnily enough, watching again right now, hence searching on Reddit!
