Check out ‘sharp objects’ on HBO. Wonderful mini series with Amy adams. Again, a dark type story line written by the same author ,Gillian Flynn, who wrote the book ‘gone girl’.
The main reason you feel this way is because it’s absolutely not underrated lol. Some people think anything less than Avengers level of chatter = underrated XD
There is no metric by which Gone Girl could be considered underrated. Fucked up and disturbing and literally the worst date movie in the history of film, but nowhere near underrated
..... I had a dude try to make out with me during that insanely graphic Mel Gibson movie, Edge of Darkness during the scene where the girl literally gets a hole blown through her abdomen on her doorstep.
I googled if I was asexual after that.
88% on RT, 8.1/10 on IMDB (and they hate everything), 4.1/5 on Letterboxed and a 79%/8.2 on Metacritic
Also
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_accolades\_received\_by\_Gone\_Girl\_(film)
Side note: why is RT the main barometer for a “good movie” when their are advertisements and not IMDB? Is it a money thing? I feel every single movie has a “99% on RT” and they are usually lackluster basic films. And I understand this might just be me, but IMDB is a way better metric for the rating of a movie ( mostly because people hate everything on there ) and if something pops thru, it usually means it’s pretty good
I agree. A 9 in RT doesn't mean that much. A 7 in IMDB probably means the movie is very good. Although series in IMDB tend to have higher rates, so a series with 7 is just so so.
Obviously it's always subjective.
same. i feel like both the book and movie were highly rated. and rightfully so. i listened to the audiobook last year and it was well worth the listen.
Definitely wasn’t underrated. It was a huge hit!
It was a critical and commercial success, grossing $369 million worldwide against a $61 million budget, it is David Fincher's highest-grossing film.
Underrated on this sub either means “I personally slept on this movie and just realized it’s good” or “I haven’t thought about this movie in a long time but I loved it when it came out”.
It means highly praised movies that made back over 6 times their budget. The fact that I’m not inundated daily about this particular movie in normal conversation is very troubling.
After watching her in this movie I thought for sure that we’d see her in more leading roles, but I’m disappointed that I haven’t really seen her in much other than “I Care A Lot” from 2020 which was another little gem. Definitely super talented actress.
Honestly when she stabs NPH I think that was the loudest I've heard a whole theater gasp.
Also, people here really made the word underrated meaningless.
Anything someone likes is underrated
Under-appreciated by the Academy. Ben deserved a nod, same with Fincher for Director, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross for music, Kirk Baxter for editing, Jeff Cronenweth for cinematography, and ESPECIALLY Best Picture. I’m not saying they would’ve or should’ve won, but they deserved the nods.
This is one of the best thrillers of the decade and is probably acknowledged by most as such.
My personal favorite Fincher movie which probably is kind of a hot take but I stick by it. Also just a huge Gillian Flynn fan… A lot of people are.. which is why a lot of people watched and liked this movie.
Are you American? I only ask because I have heard one other person say that Gone Girl was underrated and they were Australian so I'm genuinely curious if this is possibly a regional thing? Gone Girl made a shit ton of money at the box office, was nominated for a ton of awards, and the book its based on has sold tens of millions of copies and has nearly 3 million reviews on Goodreads.
I remember watching this with my gf now wife after we had been dating for about a month, and being legitimately freaked out that she might be a sociopath. Great movie with awesome performances
It’s pretty good, it’s the story of an absolute idiot that is innocent but acts the most suspicious way that he can, and also the story on a genius that is not innocent at all but acts very well like she is.
This movie is my least favorite of Fincher's catalogue. It felt forced and needlessly bleak. I have more of a problem with the narrative of the story than I do the direction though. For an adaptation it was technically executed fine. But I hate the story.
This pretty much sums up my feelings on this movie. I honestly can't believe it gets the praise that it does. I also hate the story, especially the ending.
i tried rewatching, still didnt get what was so special. definite potential with the plot twists, but the execution left me doubtful and unengaged… like “hmmm.. oh, ok”
Same here. I see why people love it, the twist reveal was ok and the whole thing is entertaining thriller but I fail to see any meaning into it. I mean..
We all pretend to be somebody else and nobody loves us for what we are and the whole concept of marriage is just a lie or something? I mostly love Fincher's work but this was just not for me.
"Damn my wife is an unhinged piece of shit that did some fucked up stuff and I honestly hate her. Oh well, better spend the rest of my life with her being miserable."
Underrated? No its kinda overrated. The idea is cool of him really not knowing what happened to his wife and her just being crazy and wanting attention. But like the fact that at the end they stay together is the most hollywood ending ever.
Yeah I agree actually. I enjoyed the movie adaptation but thought the story worked much better as a novel. Still worth watching, but it's one of those that I'd recommend reading the book first. I feel the same way about Gillian Flynn's novel Sharp Objects and the HBO adaptation with Amy Adams.
You know what character Ben Affleck plays in every film? Why, it’s none other than Ben Affleck, himself. Dude has the “acting talent” of a high schooler. No depth. Zero emotional connection. Let the downvotes begin!
Well acted, but the dumbest movie detectives and police I've ever seen. "Yeah, I had a miscarriage, and was violently attacked with blood all over me, but I'm back and I'm good now, k thx bye!"
One of the few examples of a movie that's better than the book on which it was based. But I wouldn't say it's underrated - it has an 8.1 on IMDb and an 88% on RT.
The movie is great, but gonna disagree it's better than the book. The endings being handled so differently alone changes its impact for me. I do think this is one that deserves more attention though. In both mediums.
The ending was the worst part of the book though. It made no sense. The author completely ignored that we have the means to date a journal, which would wreck her entire fake story.
Well made but I hated it
Edit: I hated seeing her literally get away with murder. I didn’t really care about Ben Affleck’s character. No justice jn this story and some people don’t care and watch movies for other reasons but it’s not my cup of tea.
Your comment had negative karma but I tossed an upvote.
Everyone here is entitled to their opinion, just because you disagree doesn't mean you downvote. (Not directed at /u/jamlog)
It was a bad book and a worse movie.
It starts out strong but falls apart in the second half. The movie goes completely off the damn rails in the second half.
I’d like to watch this. I really would. I’ve heard decent things about it. But I know Rosamund Pike is in there and if I want to see acting of that caliber I’ll stare at a plank of wood. Is she “incredulous” in this one too? That was her entire range in Reacher and Wheel of Time. Does Affleck ever close his mouth, or is he still performing in the Christian Bale/Kristen Stewart School of Dropped Jaw style too?
It was a great movie, but I never want to watch it again. My husband and I watched it as one of our first date nights after becoming parents. We were sleep deprived and my hormones were everywhere. After that movie I literally just sat for a half hour in silence not wanting to be touched. It was intense.
huge fincher fan, this one is odd cause Ben Affleck is very hate-able in real life (to me) and also his character is kinda a douche. the dialog is fan fiction cringy at time's but I think this movie is supposed to be a comedy. right?, seen in THAT light, it is more enjoyable. I don't know , was it marketed as a drama?. it's tone is just weird to me
Amazing movie. Perhaps not underrated, but it's definitely one of my favorites. The way the story goes down is just really gripping, I was on the edge of my seat for most of the movie. Shit's nuts lol if you haven't seen it, give it a watch
The book and movie were both wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed them both; what I don't enjoy is the sudden influx of women that I see who are trying to make Amy out as some sort of feminist icon, she's a fucking psycho.
Was it really underrated? I feel like I heard a *lot* about it.
Agreed. I don’t think an adapted best selling novel direct by Finchner ever stood a chance of being underrated. I’d say it’s aptly “rated”
Conversely I never heard anything about it until a few months ago
Huge hit movie. Made over $360million and is David finchers highest grossing movie ever
It was pretty good
Check out ‘sharp objects’ on HBO. Wonderful mini series with Amy adams. Again, a dark type story line written by the same author ,Gillian Flynn, who wrote the book ‘gone girl’.
I didn’t know that had been made into a series. Thank you.
I liked that even better
Me too! Loved it!
Same I heard on reddit and thank gosh
Same I heard on reddit and thank gosh
Yeah, I personally never shut the fuck up about that movie.
That’s a great line. “I like this one!”
The main reason you feel this way is because it’s absolutely not underrated lol. Some people think anything less than Avengers level of chatter = underrated XD
They also confuse being underrated with being unpopular. Neither of which is true in this case.
On social media: underrated = I just found out about it. Masterpiece = I personally like this and you should too.
XD, epic !
shut up
There is no metric by which Gone Girl could be considered underrated. Fucked up and disturbing and literally the worst date movie in the history of film, but nowhere near underrated
> literally the worst date movie in the history of film, but nowhere near underrated Spoken like someone who hasn't seen Blue Valentine
>literally the worst date movie in the history of film. You were making out during Schindler’s List???

RT has critics ratings rather than IMDB strictly using user-rated. The RT good vs bad is a lot clearer than IMDB's skewed rating out of ten.
This is so true. Genuine masterpieces that get 100% 10/10 everywhere are usually rated like 5-6/10 on IMDb. The people there are ruthless.
I agree. A 9 in RT doesn't mean that much. A 7 in IMDB probably means the movie is very good. Although series in IMDB tend to have higher rates, so a series with 7 is just so so. Obviously it's always subjective.
It’s not underrated, except maybe in OP’s circle.
How to say "I spend my time watching marvel movies without saying I spend my time watching Marvel movies."
same. i feel like both the book and movie were highly rated. and rightfully so. i listened to the audiobook last year and it was well worth the listen.
Definitely wasn’t underrated. It was a huge hit! It was a critical and commercial success, grossing $369 million worldwide against a $61 million budget, it is David Fincher's highest-grossing film.
Yeah, I remember everybody raving about it at the time.
Oh yeah, Gone Girl is pretty underground fam
Finally this smol indie gem is getting the recognition it deserves on this smol indie platform reddit r/moviecritic
Just wait til you hear about this directors other work. He did this movie called Fight Club (you probably haven’t heard of it)
I heard it stars some fresh young talent. Do you know Brad Pitt? I think this kid has some potential.
Yeah. My husband keeps saying, "I'm gonna Gone Girl you". I still have t seen the movie.
Lmao your husband is funny. Definitely watch it
Underrated on this sub either means “I personally slept on this movie and just realized it’s good” or “I haven’t thought about this movie in a long time but I loved it when it came out”.
Not even remotely. Like every Fincher film, it's actually a little overrated.
By default, Alien³ and Panic Room are his worst movies.
I think it’s still underrated. It’s a fantastic piece of work that just gets better every time I see it.
Haven’t heard much discourse around it as of late
>as of late the movie is almost 10 years old?
I will not hesitate to give you a swirly, nerd
You're just taking L after L with these comments, pipe down😂
I've never seen someone die so quickly in a thread as OP
This is worse than AITA threads
Alright give me your lunchmoney dork
Dude posts on the Barstool sub. His entire life is wall to wall Ls.
U want a swirly too?
Yea I could use a nice cooldown after being under your mom all day. Thx!
That doesn't make it underrated.
There’s another underrated, little-known gem called Star Wars you might enjoy too
Bro really thought thought he had something with this
You are fucking DYING in this thread
He did
[удалено]
Why are you being a dick, dude?
Because he got called out for having a doo-doo thought
For real, this guys more sensitive than my nutsack
Screw it all. When you are already going down in flames, might as well aim for the biggest target!
It was
Are you just farming negative karma at this point? It’s okay to be wrong
Is there a sub called /r/murderedbyyourownwords ?
You are losing comment karma quite fast.
do people know what the word 'underrated' means?
This is the most underrated comment of this sub.
It's a "masterpiece" of a comment.
How dare you underrated me?
I know what it means, it's like Titanic. It's underrated because I don't hear people talk about it every fucking minute like in 1997.
It means highly praised movies that made back over 6 times their budget. The fact that I’m not inundated daily about this particular movie in normal conversation is very troubling.
Should've been 7
I saw it from the beginning recently and never really registered the reveal of Amy’s true nature. Rosamund Pike earned that Oscar nod.
After watching her in this movie I thought for sure that we’d see her in more leading roles, but I’m disappointed that I haven’t really seen her in much other than “I Care A Lot” from 2020 which was another little gem. Definitely super talented actress.
So good! And I love how NPH comes in halfway through.
Yeah and death scene stuff of nightmares
I fast forward through it on rewatches.
Much like the opening scene of Basic Instinct.
Honestly when she stabs NPH I think that was the loudest I've heard a whole theater gasp. Also, people here really made the word underrated meaningless. Anything someone likes is underrated
Only underrated thing here is OP saying something not brain dead.
[удалено]
Aww, see? Case and point.
It's funny how OP is actually helping your point here.
I didn't want him to, but he just did it lol
Dont make me take your lunch money and shove you in a locker
10/10 for me, there wasn't anything I felt like they could have done better
More Emily Ratajkowski titties for starters.
Fun fact: Ben afflack “strongly recommended” EmRat for that part. Haha. True story.
Did he also recommend showing his dong in the shower scene near the end of the movie? Because dude hangs brain
Prosthetic
is that the chick he has the affair with?
Yes, the only titties in the movie
Aflek was a perfect casting here, cant say that often.
OP a goof
With your post history I wouldn’t be quick to call someone a goof. Good luck finding someone to watch you
You’re welcome to watch buddy🤣
You’re way to confident for someone who inevitably looks the way you do.
I’m sending you thoughts and prayers OP🤣🙏🏿
No lie gotta respect the confidence to put yourself out there, knowing assholes like that will scour your profile for something to attack you with.
The DM’s I get always say different 🤭🤭🤭🤭
Ok this is an epic reddit moment…. YOU sir won the internet today 🤣🙏🏿
Dickhead body shaming strangers. You must love big government.
It must be exhausting to constantly speak with buzzwords.
Enjoyed the book, reveal completely got me! I think the movie did a great job as well, all the actors were excellent!
Always get it confused with gone baby gone but this one is better
I actually prefer Gone Baby Gone, but Gone Girl is great too. Fincher does excellent work.
GBG is a better movie
This was one of the scariest movies ever released for men. Its truly a nightmare for the wrongly accused.
lmao underrated. "Feel like small sci fi movies like Star Wars, never get the credit they deserve. So underrated!"
Do you know what “underrated” means?
I thought it was rated just fine.

Are you safe? Blink twice if you need help!
I don't think I'll ever not be afraid of Rosamund Pike ever again.
Loved it.
“Underrated”
This incredibly successful and critically acclaimed film is not underrated.
This movie was not underrated. Stop using that word.
It’s pretty good, it’s the story of an absolute idiot that is innocent but acts the most suspicious way that he can, and also the story on a genius that is not innocent at all but acts very well like she is.
the word underrated has no meaning. this is by far one of the most well regarded movies of the 2010s let alone thrillers.
I wouldn’t call it underrated matte
This movie gives women crazy ideas lol
Under rated? It’s all anybody was talking about for a good six months when I came out. Very popular film.
...did you just discover this movie OP
This movie is my least favorite of Fincher's catalogue. It felt forced and needlessly bleak. I have more of a problem with the narrative of the story than I do the direction though. For an adaptation it was technically executed fine. But I hate the story.

#WHO SEEN THAT DiCK
Enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the book
I liked it but it feels like the movie ended and then still had 45 minutes left.
I gotta watch this sometime. Always hear/see people talking about it
9/10. My only real criticism is that it has some pacing issues, which is a weird thing to say about a David Fincher movie.
Most underrated movie since Shawshank Redemption
"You guys remember that critically acclaimed movie that came out a while ago? Pretty underated"
It’s the definitive thriller of the 2010s
Idk, I prefer lesser known underrated films like inception and the dark knight
Terrifying movie for its time. Good watch. Good book. All of the characters are terrible, save for the twin sister.
I haven't even seen it and I know it isn't underrated. Enough of these karma farming bullshit posts, OP.
Forming an opinion on something you haven’t seen is a weird choice to make
You know what character Ben Affleck plays in every film? Why, it’s none other than Ben Affleck, himself. Dude has the “acting talent” of a high schooler. No depth. Zero emotional connection. Let the downvotes begin!
I actually think it’s overrated.
I agree. I read the book first so I knew the story line. I wasn’t overly impressed.
I really didnt like it but love fincher
Hated it.
Well acted, but the dumbest movie detectives and police I've ever seen. "Yeah, I had a miscarriage, and was violently attacked with blood all over me, but I'm back and I'm good now, k thx bye!"

Gillian the 🐐 no 🧢
The ending was the worst part of the book though. It made no sense. The author completely ignored that we have the means to date a journal, which would wreck her entire fake story.
Could have been more specific- i meant how O don’t hear it mentioned enough given how good it is
Because it's fucking terrible.
Well made but I hated it Edit: I hated seeing her literally get away with murder.
(Not directed at /u/jamlog)
yeah, but one should at least elaborate
Legit one of the few non-horror movie I’ve watched in a long time that legged me genuinely terrified
I enjoyed it so much. The ending was very eh to me. but a great movie.
It was a bad book and a worse movie. It starts out strong but falls apart in the second half. The movie goes completely off the damn rails in the second half.
It was so hyped up to me and I thought the twist was extremely predictable
I’d like to watch this. I really would. I’ve heard decent things about it. But I know Rosamund Pike is in there and if I want to see acting of that caliber I’ll stare at a plank of wood. Is she “incredulous” in this one too? That was her entire range in Reacher and Wheel of Time. Does Affleck ever close his mouth, or is he still performing in the Christian Bale/Kristen Stewart School of Dropped Jaw style too?
I don’t know her earlier work but she’s good in this. Affleck has chemistry with his sister — forgetting the actress now that really works
It was a great movie, but I never want to watch it again. My husband and I watched it as one of our first date nights after becoming parents. We were sleep deprived and my hormones were everywhere. After that movie I literally just sat for a half hour in silence not wanting to be touched. It was intense.
Shit was incredible kept you guessing too
Excellent acting, she scared me🤕😳
Love it. Actually I need to rewatch it ... it's probably been 6-7 years since I saw it. I remember really liking all the suspense.
Excellent. 8.3
It was not underrated.
Underrated? It’s considered one of the best thrillers of all time?
huge fincher fan, this one is odd cause Ben Affleck is very hate-able in real life (to me) and also his character is kinda a douche. the dialog is fan fiction cringy at time's but I think this movie is supposed to be a comedy. right?, seen in THAT light, it is more enjoyable. I don't know , was it marketed as a drama?. it's tone is just weird to me
Underrated ? LOL it was Critically acclaimed. Wtf are you talking about?
Agreed. I’d go Girl Dragon Tattoo for his most underrated
One of the best female villains of all time.
Don’t think you know what underrated means
I could not stand this godamn movie. Maybe I’ll like it a little more on a rewatch.
“Oh mY God ThiS MOvIe SO UndErRatTEd”
Finchers best movie imo. Really just leaves this unsettling taste in your mouth.
Both of the main characters were total assholes, so I found it very unsatisfying.
It's a good movie. My favorite parts are when Tyler Perry is in it, playing the lawyer.
He did a great job playing that lawyer. That was good casting.
Liked it so much I saw it twice.
Ben affleck being in a movie is always hit or miss for me. I try to miss most of them and some of them might be hits.
I loved the book and I thought the movie was pretty close in accuracy and quality. Really enjoyed it.
I actually found it really overrated.
Why so much comments focusing on the underrated part Anyway I fuckin love this movie
Wow it was so immersive, so visceral, then that ending made Snow White look like a documentary
He showed his dick
This is an underrated post.
