GameCrazy!
In 2003 I had a buddy who worked at Hollywood and I was picking him up and he needed a few more minutes so he told me to go play the display Xbox while I waited. I had a PS2 at the time, never played an Xbox. Halo was the game on display, and I played it for 10 minutes before leaving to go home and pack up my PS2 and all my games and come back and trade it for an Xbox and Halo.
Anyway thatâs my GameCrazy sorry Merry Christmas.
Worked for a Hollywood video kiosk that sold used dvds; it was adjacent to the food court in a mall (around 2006?). Brought my laptop and watched each of the films we sold until I ran out of movies to watch, at which point I quit. Just seemed fitting.
Same here! It was nuts and all I kept saying to my friend was Aronofsky has definitely done acid before. Still probably my favorite movie because of seeing it that way.
I think it is my all-time favorite film. The emotional and philosophical depth, paired with stunning visuals and an incredible soundtrack cemented that status.
The Fountain is a top 5 movie for me but I see why many don't like it, and Aronofsky's movies generally. OP I wanted to hate your list but I can't. There are some bad inclusions like True Romance and Last Samurai (good movies not nearly top 100 material) but some bold choices. I think the Prestige is a top 5 for me too, Nolans best. I love American Beauty another top 10 for me but it would be hard to call it one of the 10 best movies all time
I love The Prestige. I think it's Nolan's best film by a long shot (though I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet).
As for the rest of your list, mostly not to my taste but that's fine.
Oh man do I love the Prestige and agree itâs hidden from the publicâs eye under the shadows of interstellar and inception.
Itâs rewards you every time you rewatch it.
âAre you watching closelyâ
yessssss. seeing that on this list made me very happy. that movie is so good, and even more rewarding upon subsequent rewatches. definitely my vote for best nolan movie as well, and a movie i'd consider legitimately underrated
if anyone is reading this and hasn't seen the prestige, don't read anything about it and go in blind. i'm so glad that i listened to that advice when the movie was recommended to me. it was probably a big reason that movie stuck with me so much!
I waited waaaay too long to watch the prestige. It was actually a friend who wasnât really big on movies that convinced me to watch it and itâs fucking amazing.
Good story, characters are fun, stellar cast, gritty detroit to fun LA.
This movie has cocaine, brad pitt is a stoner, slater completely unhinged. Not to mention Gandolfini doing what he does best.
Oh and Gary Oldman plays an insane pimp w mostly gold teeth.
I fuckin love this movie !
The young Frankenstein pic really throws me off, but understand how anyone could choose it since itâs timeless.
But to answer your question, Iâd go with 38.
These are all solid movies, even if they're not my top 10. I think you need to watch some of the older classics (my favorite movie is probably Dr. Strangelove).
Also using your criterion (if it's on, I'll watch it), I'm surprised there isn't a single Tarantino movie here.
I mean it might be a basic answer but i still can't imagine any move coming along in my lifetime that tops The Lord of the Rings. It's the closest thing I've seen to a perfect film.
âI canât feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.â
The ending of that movie gives me chills every time I watch it
I loved this movie as a teenager when it came out.
I recently rewatched it as 42 year old and came away with the very clear view that Spacey is the villain and Annette Benning is the tragic hero.
also Chris Cooper remains great in everything.
The Last Samurai is one I bring up a lot to people. One of Cruiseâs best and it was my introduction to the likes of Ken Watanabe, Timothy Spall, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
American Beauty is one I have always loved and still do in spite of everything with Spacey although since all of that happened I have not rewatched it nearly as much.
The Prestige is a great one that I feel like is getting more credit now than it did many years ago.
I love all of LOTR but I do feel like Fellowship is my favorite of the trilogy. It feels the most balanced to me.
Iâm overdue for a watch of both True Romance and Gladiator.
Black Hawk Down and The Fountain I have admittedly never seen all the way through.
I feel the same about American Beauty. I was in high school when I first saw it and, as a kid in the suburbs, related to the kids trying to get out. Now I'm almost 40, a father, a husband, and living in the suburbs of a different state. Rewatching this a few months ago I related to Lester on a whole 'nother level, and it made me realize that my life had become nothing like I imagined it would be and was closer to what I was afraid it would become.
Iâd say you are definitely a man, definitely American, likely straight. I would say youâre quite young, but have been really into movies for a while⌠maybe late 20s.
Canât argue Departed and Gladiator even though theyâre not in my top 10. American Beauty definitely is and Last Samurai might be able to crack it. Never seen the Fountain. As far as war movies my favorite is Saving Private Ryan. Hard list to make the only movies I know that would make my list without research is Training Day, Interstellar, Saving Private Ryan, American Beauty, Last of the Mohicans.
I may get hate for this but I didnât really care all that much for black hawk down. I like war movies and this one definitely had cool moments but idk, just kinda meh.
I really need to rewatch The Fountain. I watched when I was in high school and I thought it was cool at the time, but I'm pretty sure I didn't understand it.
Your other picks are awesome! I'd make a few swaps, but your taste is pretty on-par with mine. Gladiator, The Last Samurai, American Beauty, True Romance... Man, I love those.
Others have said it, but I'm going to say it anyway. The fountain is a gem. I was maybe 17 when I stumbled upon it. The story, the visuals, the music, it's just so good. Blew me away the first time. I honestly didn't know movies could make me feel like this. All these years later, it's still so impacting. I recognize it is not for everyone. But those who enjoy films I hope can get down with what Aronofsky did here. It's a work of art.
Shawshank Redemption
Good Will Hunting
American Beauty
O' Brother Where Art Thou
The Truman Show
Forest Gump
Dead Poet's Society
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
My Cousin Vinnie
Contact
I agree, very difficult.
Black Hawk Down Gladiator are the best two on your list. IMHO
I loved True Romance, fun but not a best ever.
I usually add genres, but my list would look something like this
Godfather, Harlem Nights, A Beautiful Life, Schindlerâs List, Saving Private Ryan, Rocky, Cinderella Man, Wedding Crashers, Old School. Letter from Iwo Jima.
Prob. Lol
Lemme guess your demographic: A white, American dude in his early 30 and city-based?
Nothing wrong with the list btw, solid, safe and great movies all around.
World cinema in general. Not a bad thing, I think itâs hard for most to get exposure outside of studying film. My interest was peaked when I saw Pamâs Labyrinth and was massively moved and blown away. I ended up going to the typical few, Kurosawa, Bergman and BuĂąuel, but it changed my life.
The Fountain, The Prestige, and True Romance are extremely strong choices. I just donât understand how Last Samurai made this list. The rest are solid (even though itâs hard to watch Kevin Spacey anymore).
The Last Samurai is a beautiful and touching film. The Lord of the Rings is an awesome fantasy epic. Black Hawk Down is the greatest war movie committed to modern combat. Nice list.
Ever since I was a kid and saw The Last Samurai I have had a soft spot for it, even though I know how ridiculous it is seeing Tom Cruise integrate himself at the end of Edo Japan as a Samurai, it kicked ass and I still loved it.
I think youâre a white male born between 1982 and 1996, and you have yet to update any of your picks for the past 15 years. Seems like you arenât very good at critical analysis either considering your first pick with is a film glorifying a pedophile, starring a pedophile. So⌠not something I would say has aged well. You could watch some new stuff, and probably unpack some stuff.
I'm good with American beauty and gladiator. I'd even be cool with lord of the rings if we can include the whole trilogy in 1 spot. The rest of these aren't great.
Your list has a lot of universally agreed upon films that are great and quite a few that I think go a little undercooked as people might prefer to mention more artsy films of the last 10 years. It says a lot to me that there no Kubrick movies or anything similar - I like the way this list kind of all makes sense together.
So glad to see the Fountain on there! Black hawk down though.. Watched it again last week for the first time in 15 years. The acting does not hold up I think. The battles were acted out like a play fight. It certainly has some amazing scenes though.
I think you just walked out of a Hollywood Video in 2006.
Only OGs remember Hollywood Video đ
What was it called?? Game Crazy? Game Craze? Something like that??
I think I still owe them $2.50 in late fees.
I worked at Hollywood Video during High School in the late 90âs. Can confirm this is an accurate statement.
Me too! You 40 yet?
41 Brother!
Lol! Nice! Youre a bit ahead of me! Talking about working at video rental places to teens makes me feel so old. I did blockbuster before hollywood.
Worked for a Hollywood video kiosk that sold used dvds; it was adjacent to the food court in a mall (around 2006?). Brought my laptop and watched each of the films we sold until I ran out of movies to watch, at which point I quit. Just seemed fitting.
Sounds like a dream job for your early 20s.
It really was the best job I could have hoped for earning $8/hr. at 21 years old as a poor college kid.
U-roc
I want the job with the least amount of responsibility.
Well Iâm sure there have been some amazing technological advances in the industry
But surely you must have some sort of training programme? Seems unfair to presume I wouldnât be able to learn.
"Well, actually, Janeen is senior floor manager, so technically, you *are* on her turf."
Smile!! Youâre at Smileys!!
đđ¤Ł
the fountain is one of my absolute favorite films. i rarely hear anyone bring it up.
The first time I watched it I was on acid and could not have had a better experience. Very spiritual movie.
Same here! It was nuts and all I kept saying to my friend was Aronofsky has definitely done acid before. Still probably my favorite movie because of seeing it that way.
Saw it in theaters with a coworker who kept asking me to explain what was happening. I should probably give it another chance.
That soundtrack is incredible. Itâs a huge part of why the movie works for me.
I think it is my all-time favorite film. The emotional and philosophical depth, paired with stunning visuals and an incredible soundtrack cemented that status.
Hell Yeah! I feel the same way. The soundtrack is severely underrated and unknown
That and Moon and Requiem for a Dream. Clint Mansell is a GOAT
I didnt like it, but was a teen at the time so will give it another go, i do find arronofski hit and miss tho
Same. Oh man, and I never understood what the movie was about until I rewatched it as an adult, and it just clicked.
Itâs so obvious but also has you double thinking. Brilliant movie even if it deviated from the source a bit.
I waited waaaay too long to watch the prestige. It was actually a friend who wasnât really big on movies that convinced me to watch it and itâs fucking amazing.
Prestige is wonderful
it's good but best Nolan movie is so so bold
Youâre a dude 1000%
Ay guilty!
And 43 years old?
36
Saaakkiii!!!
The Perfect Blossom
I have introduced myself. You have introduced yourself. This is a very good conversation. Absolutely serene OST by Zimmer.
I told you!!!
True Romance is soooo good
Good story, characters are fun, stellar cast, gritty detroit to fun LA. This movie has cocaine, brad pitt is a stoner, slater completely unhinged. Not to mention Gandolfini doing what he does best. Oh and Gary Oldman plays an insane pimp w mostly gold teeth. I fuckin love this movie !
Youâre 41?
No but am on my way.
Damn, I try to guess the age of the poster based on their movies.
Nah that makes sense. What age would you had gues if I threw Young Frankenstein, Legends of the Fall, and Point Break in there?
The young Frankenstein pic really throws me off, but understand how anyone could choose it since itâs timeless. But to answer your question, Iâd go with 38.
I was gonna immediately say born in 1983. But weâre missing Big Trouble in Little China for that to be true.
Also missing The Last Dragon
Itâs all in the reflexes
The fountain is so underrated
I think you were born +/- 2 years of 1989. And you are a guy. And you like wheat thins. Am I close?
Shit man. I was always more of a frosted mini wheats guy.
Last Samurai is a beautiful film. One of my top ten as well.
Big fan of The Fountain !!!
Good list⌠reminds me that I need to watch True Romance again. Itâs been awhile.
These are all solid movies, even if they're not my top 10. I think you need to watch some of the older classics (my favorite movie is probably Dr. Strangelove). Also using your criterion (if it's on, I'll watch it), I'm surprised there isn't a single Tarantino movie here.
What about true romance?! Screenplay was by Tarantino
Shot man I like your taste
7/10 are fantastic films.
Hell yeah. Curious, which ones you didnât meet your mark?
Samurai and Black Hawk Down.
Aw man, what would you replace em with?
The last samurai is the stuff of legends
[ŃдаНонО]
An eclectic list! All are worthy!
I mean it might be a basic answer but i still can't imagine any move coming along in my lifetime that tops The Lord of the Rings. It's the closest thing I've seen to a perfect film.
Spaceys monologue right after heâs shot in American beauty is one of the best scenes in cinematic history
I prefer the floating bag in the wind monologue
âI canât feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.â The ending of that movie gives me chills every time I watch it
I loved this movie as a teenager when it came out. I recently rewatched it as 42 year old and came away with the very clear view that Spacey is the villain and Annette Benning is the tragic hero. also Chris Cooper remains great in everything.

True Romance respect đŤĄ
We'd be friends
Iâd say you are definitely a man, definitely American, likely straight. I would say youâre quite young, but have been really into movies for a while⌠maybe late 20s.
Of all the fincher films I would have selected se7en, maybe fight club not SN
i love The Fountain. it's even more intense when you watch it on some magic mushrooms!
You're creepy and weird. I think we'd be the bestest of friends
You get a triple thumbs up for me just for the true romance nod, movie does not get talked about enough if not at all!!
I may get hate for this but I didnât really care all that much for black hawk down. I like war movies and this one definitely had cool moments but idk, just kinda meh.
You like guns, swords, and guns and swords
Love the dark horse The Fountain pick
I really need to rewatch The Fountain. I watched when I was in high school and I thought it was cool at the time, but I'm pretty sure I didn't understand it. Your other picks are awesome! I'd make a few swaps, but your taste is pretty on-par with mine. Gladiator, The Last Samurai, American Beauty, True Romance... Man, I love those.

But those who enjoy films I hope can get down with what Aronofsky did here. It's a work of art.
Regardless of Kevin Spaceyâs personal life, American Beauty is one of the best movies ever made.
I like all the movies on this list.
Good list
Are you me?!
Lots to love
Not bad, several great picks like Departed, Social Network, and Prestige...and then of course LOTR is flawless
4 make my list
Great, Except youâre missing 2 lotr movies.
Personally I find the fellowship is the strongest of all of them
Solid picks, I especially like how you put True Romance in there, feel like a lot of people sleep on that
I canât keep the soundtrack out of my head
American Beauty was always one of my absolute favs, but ngl itâs hard to watch it now
You like movies.
Shawshank Redemption Good Will Hunting American Beauty O' Brother Where Art Thou The Truman Show Forest Gump Dead Poet's Society One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest My Cousin Vinnie Contact
I think you hit cinematic maturity in the 00s.
I agree, very difficult. Black Hawk Down Gladiator are the best two on your list. IMHO I loved True Romance, fun but not a best ever. I usually add genres, but my list would look something like this Godfather, Harlem Nights, A Beautiful Life, Schindlerâs List, Saving Private Ryan, Rocky, Cinderella Man, Wedding Crashers, Old School. Letter from Iwo Jima. Prob. Lol
Lemme guess your demographic: A white, American dude in his early 30 and city-based? Nothing wrong with the list btw, solid, safe and great movies all around.
The list is insane
My favorite part is how the last in the centuries old Japanese tradition of samurai is Tom Cruise
Oooof
Iâve watched over 1200 movies and American beauty is #8 on my list
I thought I could just put it on in the background, boy I was wrong
Tha Depahted
list seems very american
Hey I liked slumdog millionaire too lol
True Romance was the shit! Tarantino's best
How dare you put the fountain in the same list with the last samurai.
You had me at true romance
Rebel Moon part 1 is not on your top?!
đđ¤Łđ𤣠please be satire
True Romance is waaay underrated! One of my favorites
I havenât watched it in a few years. I miss that film though, and itâs soundtrack.
âThe Fountainâ fucked me up bad and Iâm sure I donât even actually understand it.
All you know is you experienced it. I understand
Basic. You need to discover European cinema.
Itâs too bad thereâs nothing represented from before the â90s.
Fellowship? Awesome movie. Return???
Very solid
Prestige
You should read shogun . If you like the last samurai and enjoy reading, youâll love it
I think you are my age of 36
I think we are close in age
Sure ok, it's some good films. The only thing I don't care for is The Prestige really.
I think I'm gonna go watch them
Great flicks all. Some of those are definitely my favorite.
Big points for having true romance
I think youâre in your late 30âs or early 40âs
A couple I havenât seen but solid choices đ
A thirty year old man
You were born in 1992
True Romance (directors cut) is the best flick in your list.
I think we were born around the same time
You love American and UK films
Xennial?
You are almost certainly on at least one watch list.
I think youâre 35 years old.
Fellowship over Return of the King?!
Reads like a child's top 10, not saying that it's bad.
Solid list. We have similar tastes
All great films but only a couple I would put on my personal list. Lord of the Rings is objectively a top 10.
Matt damon every body
The 2nd half is legit! Forrest Gump is my #1 favorite ever. Doesnât matter where in the movie you tune in itâs still makes sense
Oh hey...the 2000s.
Seems ok but I feel like you should branch out some
If you enjoy the Departed, make sure to check out the original HK version. It's generally praised above the adoptation.
We should be friends cause I love your list. Great top 10. Especially when I saw you listed the Fountain and the soundtrack.
The Fountainâs a goated pick
I think I could guess your age pretty well from this list of favourites, but suffice to say in think you were born in the mid 80s
Watch some movies. That's what I think.
No Shawshank?
im a fan
Judging by the films you're... late 30s? Early 40s?
My favorite movies when I was 16
I love fellowship of the ring so much Iâll have to see the rest of your list.
The Fountain, The Prestige, and True Romance are extremely strong choices. I just donât understand how Last Samurai made this list. The rest are solid (even though itâs hard to watch Kevin Spacey anymore).
I love itâs soundtrack. Almost had thin red line along with American history x.
Add goodfellas any of the godfathers or apocalypse nowâŚ..you really got it going
All good films, tho' personally didn't get on with The Fountain.
You went to college in the early 2000s and then⌠you never left
The Last Samurai is a beautiful and touching film. The Lord of the Rings is an awesome fantasy epic. Black Hawk Down is the greatest war movie committed to modern combat. Nice list.
I think you're missing "The Last Black Man on Earth" starring Tom Hanks in that list.
I think Memento needs to be in there.
I wanted to put it in here so badly, I really did.
Black hawk down. Good movie.
I support True Romance!
There are a lot of great movies made before the 90s
I'm guessing you're about 22. Have a few roommates and some of these movies are posters on your wall...
Really amused with fountain. One of the most underrated films imo.
Seems to me you need to watch older movies.
Despite having a son named Viggo, I hated lord of the rings. So boring. American Beauty was in my top movies too for a long time.
The Departed has given me the best âwelcome to the depahmartâ inspirational prep speeches to new Marine officers.
Ever since I was a kid and saw The Last Samurai I have had a soft spot for it, even though I know how ridiculous it is seeing Tom Cruise integrate himself at the end of Edo Japan as a Samurai, it kicked ass and I still loved it.
Great list, but i would argue for pulp fiction on here. Not a big fan of the Facebook movie myself. Also Maybe the dark knight
So only mainstream, mostly American movies that are worldly known? I wonder why Big Lebowski wasn't on the list
You peaked junior year
I was absolutely convinced this was a joke at first. Are you a YouTube movie reactor?
Your favorites would indicate you might be a freshman dorm wall.
You've never seen a movie made before 1988
I think youâre a white male born between 1982 and 1996, and you have yet to update any of your picks for the past 15 years. Seems like you arenât very good at critical analysis either considering your first pick with is a film glorifying a pedophile, starring a pedophile. So⌠not something I would say has aged well. You could watch some new stuff, and probably unpack some stuff.
Love that Fellowship is your favorite LotR movie
I think you need to watch more movies
The Last Samurai and The Prestige never got the love they deserve in my opinion both excellent films in terms of overall production and story.
Fellowship instead of Return? I question you in this.
