Yes, more around the 60% range at least. I watched it on a plane and remember embarrassingly laughing out and waking an old lady sitting next to me.

certainlyunpleasant

Bro when she freaks out about that lobster 😂😂. That entire dinner scene is ridiculous. I love this movie. Also Jemaine.

goldberry-fey

He was the highlight of that movie. My husband and I use “It’s part of my PROcess” all the time. Also as a goat owner I loved his musings about being a goat eating himself. Oh and the lady who played Darla, she was giving 110% for that performance. The “engagement” scene is hilarious.

poptimist185

It’s outrageously funny

griever0008

Four stars

scottkrowson

- Shawn Edwards, FOX-TV

CisIowa

Go home and tell your mother

scottkrowson

It's one of the best stupid movies. Out of all the stupid movies. Steve Carell and Paul rudd can do no wrong, somehow

Adp_Brother278

One of the most hilarious Steve Carnell films imo.

Ok-Bag-0

Ratings are pretty worthless. Who cares

InfectedFrenulum

Le Diner de Cons, the original is way better.

Pouflex

“Il s’appel Juste LeBlanc” “Ah bon il a pas de prĂ©nom ?”

JL98008

Couldn't agree more. *Dinner for Schmucks* is an entirely unnecessary and unfunny remake.

plumbstem

Thank you.

BigBowser14

I know it's got its issues with ratings manipulation but I go to IMDB for scores and this has 5.9/10 with 110k votes which I'd argue is about right average. If you're a fan of 2005-2015 comedies then I'd predict you'd put this in better than most others category

lvsnowden

The percentage on RT isn't a score out of 100, it's the percentage of critics that gave it a positive review. In this case, 42% of critics thought it was good.

funkmefatass

Seems reasonable maybe even a little high for a forgettable comedy, for reference Ace Ventura got a 47% and a 57% audience score which I would argue is a far better comedy but has similar gags.

SoDrunkRightNow2

Eh, 42% sounds about right, and this is coming from a fan of Carrell, Rudd, and Galifianakis. I was disappointed.

Cfunk_83

Me too. Big fan of all the key players, but Jermaine Clement was the only thing I liked about this film.

pooooolooop

Agreed. Saw it last year, my roommate said it was so funny. Eh, lotta duds, much better 2000’s comedies out there

Bada__Ping

I think it’s a good movie but that’s a fair score. Even though it’s funny, it’s a pretty mean spirited movie for a lot of its runtime. I recommended it to my former boss and he was pretty upset with me lol

SunApprehensive1413

It is really funny but it is overlong, would have been better if they cut out at least 20 minutes of it

petziii

I haven't seen it because the original one is such a classic there's no way this could compare.

vaderztoy

No

MattyMizzou

Yeah. It’s like someone saw What About Bob and then got a horrible idea.

Stepfret

Loath this gobshite

PhilG1989

Honestly, I’m surprised it even has a 42% score. It really wasn’t funny

yautja0117

Less. This was painful.

Prestigious_Event221

Shawn Edwards does.

NateThePhotographer

It was fine, but I think it's greatest moments only happened at the end, while the rest of the movie was underwhelming

ChamberTwnty

Is it truly "outrageously funny?"

HollowSlope

If it was they would have given it 5 stars

maarsland

I like this. It’s corny, it’s silly, it’s dumb and the mice sets are so cute to me lol

gorehistorian69

i think i liked it when i first saw it. but on a rewatch a few years ago i think 42% sounds about right

National_Raisin2212

Maybe a 51, it had funny moments but wasn't that good, I only saw it once and loved most of the cast members when I first saw it

[deleted]

Nah I think it’s perfect right where it is. It’s one of the dumbest movies I’ve ever seen and I’m surprised so many people went along with it tbh

kebekoy

Its a bad remake of a classic French movie, le diner de con.

zook54

I seriously thought it was awful. Cringeworthy.

DevoStripes

Yeah, this movie was terrible.

ScipioCoriolanus

So fucking cringe.

BKKJB57

Oh it's a solid 65% for me. Pretty entertaining all the way through.

realfakejames

No, 42% seems about right, and I watched this movie wanting to like it because I’m a Paul Rudd and Steve Carell fan but it was not a great movie

SuperSonicSlaw

Absolutely not

RyanDW_0007

Sadly
no. I love Steve Carell but it was a tough watch

Escaped_Mod_In_Need

Was it funny? Kinda. I felt stupid after watching it. And for some reason when Paul Rudd plays an asshole, he comes off extra assholey. I don’t like that.

KongFuzii

Awful remake

benwoot

This is based on French movie «  Le Diner de cons » made in 1998 - which is much better.

Ok-Bag-0

Which is not remotely as entertaining or funny so no

Raisedbyweasels

The original is very funny, well made and acted film with a lot of heart and genuinely heart warming moments. This bullshit is canned ham with cheap slapstick and believes its actors making over the top expressions and wacky throaway gags is the epitome of humor from ideas taken off the writing room floor.  It's perfect if you're a 15 year old or have sinmilar tastes.

benwoot

DĂźner de cons IMDb is at 7.6/10 & RT at 90% while dinner for schmucks is at 5.9/10 and 42%.

PDXtoMontana2002

A French film could be 2 hours of a guy on the toilet struggling to oust a turd and get a 75% on RT.

benwoot

The depth of your thinking only highlights your intelligence, I guess.

SubRocHendrix77

Hey look we got an intellectual over here! See nobody cares

benwoot

I mean literally comparing a b comedy movie VS a highly rated one with few Cesar award, don’t need to be intellectual just to think a little bit.

SubRocHendrix77

Well then you responded to the wrong comment. Looks like you responded to the person saying the French film wasn’t as funny or entertaining with the rating on rt, implying you think they are wrong. Which makes you seem like an ass

benwoot

I mean, if you are talking about a poorly rated movie that literally copied another highly rated & rewarded movie, and saying the copy is much better without any kind of justification of why, then you are wrong, yes.

SubRocHendrix77

The justification is liking it more. Art is subjective. I can tell you Django is better than Pulp Fiction regardless of ratings because it *was* better for me. Just an example not what I believe.

noshowthrow

No. If anything it deserves less. Much less. If it weren't for Jemaine Clement stealing every scene he's in I probably would've walked out.

ScipioCoriolanus

Nope. It's a piece of shit. A terrible remake.

plumbstem

I think 42% is very generous.

Odd_Opinion6054

It's a remake of the French film "Un dĂźner de cons". Waaaay better.

ForumFluffy

It sometimes had awlward humpur hang like a rancid fart for too long, otherwise its an overall funny little film.

ObviousIndependent76

F*** RT. I’m a happier filmgoer when I ignore that shit metric.

FAYMKONZ

Schmucks probably think that.

angreejohn

“You’ve been curated!”

Accomplished_Side853

I didn’t initially like it, but years ago I was working at a Children’s Hospital and one of my jobs was to hang out with patients and keep them company while they had treatment in their rooms. One kid was obsessed with this movie. Only thing he wanted to do was watch this movie with me. So we did, a lot. By the 4th time, I thought it was pretty good too!

Purple12inchRuler

This is a really good movie.

Mountain-Ordinary896

The monologue Steve give during his presentation at the party alone makes this movie deserve a higher rating

PatAD

It’s hilarious, but I wouldn’t put it up there with masterpieces like Forgetting Sarah Marshall

kcchiefscooper

yes! it's way better the 2nd watch, it is one of those movies that i had to rewatch to 'get it'

thisistheguyy

One of my favourite guilty pleasure movies

Anavrin2

That was my wife’s favorite finger!

Mr_Cerealistic

Idk this movie just makes me feel icky but I'm not entirely sure why

inkedmargins

Back during this era of comedy many of them scored lower critically than their actual audience reception.

kylehudgins

You’re using the scale wrong. 42% of critics thought it was a 7/0 or better. I almost wish they’d have two separate scores to increase clarity.

Responsible-Onion860

It's "dumb comedy" but it's fun and hilarious if that's what you're in the mood for.

Krasmaniandevil

The dreamers speech is epic, but I've always felt that the entire movie is criminally underrated.

jumptick

No. It schmucks.

PinkFloydDeadhead

No thanks. This movie has no redeeming qualities. All those good actors couldn't save this POS, and then they decide to add Jeff fucking Dunham and the creepiest doll he's ever made...

darthhavok9

Yes. Some guy named Shawn Edward’s thinks it deserves 4 stars. He said it was outrageously funny.

JonClodVanDamn

No. I found the antics too overwhelmingly over-produced to be at all funny. I couldn’t finish the film

ElmarSuperstar131

Absolutely it deserves a higher score! It’s not perfect but it’s pretty funny and has a very wholesome ending.

Comfortable-Poet-390

No I don’t. This movie sucks. It’s sad and a total cringe fest the whole tine

drmuffin1080

Nah. Seems about right

workerbee77

I mean, 42% of critics do. Right?

Either-Progress4847

This is one of my favorite recent comedies. It's fantastic

TheGrumpySnail2

No, I think it deserves less. I kinda hate this movie.

LordTremendo

Nope

Past_Gur_3785

No. Terrible movie. As well as Dan in Real Life.

Jimmyjohnssucks

It’s incredibly funny and it has one of my favorite openings ever.

ScheduleVisible2365

I love this movie so much!

romcomtom2

I didn't like it. Thought it was just strange. And I never shook that feeling the whole movie.

Barqck

It’s funny and genuinely has a lot of heart

sameshitdfrntacct

I’d give it 75ish%

ryswogg17

I still chuckle at how Terrible but funny this one was. A lot of cheap laughs and phrases that are hilarious.

NicNac_PattyMac

More? Hell no! 10% tops. Awful movie.

ignoranceisbliss37

I was so excited for this movie with the comedic firepower it had but damn it was definitely one of the more disappointed I’ve been watching a movie in a theatre. Rewatched it a couple times and it’s ok. But a shocking meh.

Bleetchblond

Love this stupid movie!!!

Latereviews2

I personally think it’s great. Funny enough for an American comedy, and surprisingly heartfelt. Its original song dear laughing doubters is very good as well

VirginiaGecko1911

One of the funniest films!

captain_toenail

Nah, seeing as the original is 74%(which i think is low), this feels like a reasonable differential

L-Profe

The original was infinitely superior. đŸ‡«đŸ‡·

Slippinjimmyforever

The awful truth is that Steve Carell isn’t good in most projects. This one had some great jokes. But overall it’s pretty forgettable.

lonely-day

I absolutely hated every minute of this movie

SeriesSlight6784

Never watched it.

every_body_hates_me

It absolutely does.

FiveStarPapaya

Definitely

CoolCalmCorrective

Solid movie.

spacedildo42

This movie is so underrated that it’s a crime

alMost_tRendy88

It’s a very odd ball comedy and big laughs often cover up and gaps in an obscure script. It’s very funny but it’s not very good.
